Q: 15/F
In school, I'm kind of loserish.
I mean, there are deff people who are huger losers than me, no question.
But I'm def not cool. Like, I've never been to a party or anything(with people from my school).

Outside of school, I'm cool. Like, at camp I'm at least top five most popular girls. I've drank and smoked, just a tiny bit, with people from camp. Most of them live in towns less than half an hour away. I've hooked up with hot guys, and I've turned down a lot of kinda-cute ones. So basically, I'm just a loser in school.
I don't want to sound conceited or anything but I know I'm pretty. I'm not fat, I'm skinny. I dress well.

I thinkkk the reason I am at school is b/c of my friends. I was new in middle school, and I already knew a few people there. They were kinda losers, but I stuck with them. I feel like if I hadn't, I'd have made different friends. I def had opportunities to. Now, I really don't like them too much. They're kinda annoying and suckish friends. Like, I can't tell them anything.

I want a new group of friends. I want to be popular because (a) thats just def better, i mean cuter guys better social life, you know. and (b) the other cliques who aren't popular suck. Like there really isnt anyone else who id ever want to be friends with.

Advice?
You need to take a look at what you're asking here.

You're 'not cool' because you don't drink or smoke? Since when did that become the definition of cool? I guess I'm still a loser, because I'm 20 and I don't smoke, and only drink casually (and legally). Hmm.

Seriously, you have to grow up and stop using Hollywood as your basis of comparison.

Maybe the reason you can't tell your friends anything is the fact that you think they're losers. I had friends in middle school who, all of a sudden, got too 'cool' for me. Now, ironically enough, they're the ones getting pregnant, doing drugs and just generally becoming the laughingstock of the people I knew back then.

You want to be popular because:

a) That's just definitely better.

No, it isn't. I didn't have a 'popular' group of friends in high school. I hung out with the kids who had fun, and enjoyed being the age we were. They were hardworking but still social, and had their priorities straight. We still had parties, but there was more ice cream and games, and less vomiting and hangovers. I'm still friends with them. The popular kids (at least the one you seem to want to become) go through life using everyone they come into contact with in order to move further up the social ladder. It's sick. No matter what these shows like "Gossip Girls" or whatever else you've been watching say, it's not the right way to be, and you're a worse person for behaving like this.

b) The other cliques suck.

Try not being in a clique. Most of my friends were from various social groups. I was friends with the kids who played Magic cards under the basement stairs, and I was friends with the people on student council. Nobody excluded me for not dressing a specific way, or for not declaring myself a part of one specific group.

My suggestion: grow up, and take a look around you. These people aren't just your pawns. Try making friends for the right reasons. Because you have fun together. Because you can talk to them for hours and not even notice. Because you can accept them for who and what they are. Because you have something in common beyond what brand of clothes you wear.

Just think about it.

Q: ...and I have lost long ago....

This is probably a random (and obvious) question...
I guess I'm mainly looking for feedback.

I am a snooze-junky. I press the snooze button, sometimes several times each morning, and lie in bed in a daze (often snoozing away), until the alarm rings again (in which case, I am likely to press snooze again). I don't know what to do to discipline myself. I set my alarm (cell phone) on a high volume, with the most annoying ring tone known to man, and all I do is hit snooze, fall back asleep, hit snooze again...and finally wake up when I absolutely HAVE to (as in, I have to rush to get ready & out the door).

This has been going on for a long time. I always tell myself that the next day will be different; that I will get up the FIRST time that my alarm goes off, and not the fifth. As you can tell, I am not an early bird, so I just make excuses and fall back asleep. I would say that this rates among my worst habits.

For anyone who does the same (or has at some point in the past), what do you do to just get out of bed and ditch the habit of pressing snooze? Any feedback or tips on getting up at the alarm?
Thanks!!
Easy: put your clock across the room, and hide it! Once you get out of bed and have to think about where it is, you're already awake, and there's no point in getting back in bed.

Q: didnt understand what u said to keep pants clean women wear understand...can u explain more elaborately???
Sorry this took me so long to answer... I didn't see the question in my inbox until just now.

Women's genitals secrete lubrication. Without underwear, this fluid would get all over her pants, which would make a lot more laundry!

That's what I meant.

Q: hey yeh to reply to my question i do know some amount about computers im not english so i cant word it very well... i know what ram is i know you need new parts the fact of the matter is my computer came with 2 512 ram chips which are pc 4300 which run at 266 mhz right if i take these out and replace them with 4200 1gb ram chips ddr2 which run at 533 mhz will it work?? i have a intel core duo 4400 processor bus speed of 200mhz anf fbs of 800 mhz will the new ram be compatible??
The RAM should be compatible. For the most part, hardware is made to conform to certain standards, so they should work.

Sorry for misinterpreting your question!

Q: right basically im trying to upgrade my computer. im going to be honest im not very good with computers, basically i have pc2-4300 x2 ddr2 (266mhz) 512 mb ram chips. i want to know how i can upgrade these to 1gb chips but i have checked nearly all site on 4300 ram chips is there anyway i can change the pc without buyin anymore parts and is 4200 the same as 4300 sorry im not very clear but i have no idea about computers feedback would be great
The person below gave a great answer, but left one thing out, which I think is an essential concept you're missing.

The hardware your computer came with is not upgradeable itself; you need to buy new parts. It sounds to me like you want to upgrade your 512 mb chips to 1 gb chips, without actually changing the hardware. It's not like you can buy software to change them; they are what they are.

Q: Does anyone have a recipe for icing to put on sugar cookies (I'm using cookie cutters) that will harden so it doesn't lose it's shape? Also, I would like to have multiple colors so if there is no way for me to make different icing colors I can't use it. Thanks.
Sounds like you want fondant icing. You can cut it out in shapes.

You can get it at any store that sells cake decorating supplies. It comes in a box. You just mix it in with whatever food colouring combination(s) you want, and then roll it out and cut it.

Q: Alright, I've been looking into this univeristy that seems to be a good option for me, but other than the large classes there is just ONE big problem, the girls are all beautiful. I've always been extremely self-conscience and obsessed with looking beautiful, and I've been miserable the last 3 years because my classmates have all been models. Since all I ever hear about this uni is "the girls are amazing" "its very competitive to get guys since they have so much to choose from" I'm a bit hesitant about even applying - especially since I know that when I go to states like New Jersey I always get tons of attention for my long curly hair and "nice ass" (Im more of the latin type of beautiful) but the state I'm considering is mainly into the beach blonden type of beautiful.. Im just so afraid of being an outcast, or considered ugly, or even just average. Should I even apply?
First off, if you go to a university, the classes will be large. If you go to a large university, you won't be able to avoid it, so don't discount it immediately.

As for the attractive girls, men don't all have the same tastes. Obviously, while some do like the fake-n-bake blondes, others will like different types. Actually, I've heard my guy friends complain about how girls who wear tons of makeup are using "false advertising". Ha.

Plus, I don't know how it is there, but our pretty girls get lazy and start wearing sweatpants and Uggs to class. Not a good look :P

Q: wellll
its almost christmas time
only 23 more shopping days left!
but the question is, how do you go shopping when you have no money!
im 15, and no one will really hire me for a job, i have to wait until im 16.
and of course i have no money!
i am trying to do odd jobs and collect momey for gifts
but i still dont have much
all my friends are asking me what i want them to get me for christmas, so i know they are all getting me something
so i have to, of course get them something too
what should i get them!?????!!!?
i mean, i dont want it to be cheap like a pair of earings or something
something they will be happy to get, but it cant be wicked expensive
ANY IDEAS?!
A great idea from a penniless student:

Pick up a pair of knitting needles and some simple instructions and learn how to make scarves.

If you use extra bulky wool and really large (I'm talking size 10-12) needles, you can make one in about 6 hours, or even faster. It'll cost you about 12 dollars a scarf, and it makes for an inexpensive but still meaningful gift.

I'm on my fourth one out of nine :D

Q: I plan on giving blood at my school on December 14th. I've never given blood (I only just turned 17, the age required to give). They told us to eat foods with iron and to drink lots of water so we don't pass out. I have a few phobias and two of those include needles/shots and seeing blood. I already know that if I don't pay attention to what is going on I won't be affected mentally by it, but I'm worried physically. I don't want to pass out or get sick or anything like that, so I was wondering, for those who have given blood or have worked in a setting of the such (health experts, etc.) what are some good foods to eat, beverages, anything to keep me from getting dizzy/sick, passing out, etc.

Also, if I were to pass out from it, how long would I be out? Just a few seconds? I guess it's not that big of a deal, I'm going to do it no matter what, I was just wondering.

I'd rather you not answer this if you haven't given blood before or if you're not somehow medically aware. I'm not going to get upset or something if you aren't aware - I'd just feel more comfortable with someone more experienced with this.
I gave blood when I was in high school. I also passed out.

The reason you're supposed to eat foods high in iron is so that your iron count is high enough that they can use your blood.

The reason I passed out is because I went to sleep. They'll tell you to stay sitting up and keep your eyes open. Trust me, if you close them, you're out like a light. I don't know if you've ever passed out before, but it's not pleasant. When I came to, I threw up (in front of one of the cutest guys in my class).

However, they are equipped to deal with things like that, and they'll have you feeling better in no time.

It's really not bad at all, and definitely a worthwhile cause.

Q: My boyfriend (age 23, I'm 21) of 4.5 years just got back from a business trip in Chicago & told me while he was out at a bar he did a bodyshot off a bartender. I was pretty upset, but he was confused why. He kept saying "it was at a bar! what's wrong with it!?". But I disagree? Anyways, just wondering what other people's opinion is, if he's right and I'm overreacting, or if its a no-no and I am justified. Thanks!
Whether it's right or not all depends on you and what you're comfortable with, not some societal standard.

It sounds like you need to set down some guidelines as to what is appropriate and inappropriate conduct. My fiancee came home from a bar one night, and told me about how he had kissed some chick. It was her bachelorette party, and she had to kiss a guy named Mark. His friends convinced him to lie and say that was his name, and they had a 'peck'. Much as I would have loved to strap a chastity belt on him right then and there, instead I told him that I didn't find it appropriate, and gave him a clear set of boundaries. (No touching below the eyebrows :P)

It's excusable now if he exceeded your comfort zone, because he didn't know what the boundaries were, but if he has a clear set of rules as to what you find acceptable, he's less likely to go astray.

In short, let this one slide. Make it so that in the future, he knows what you think is okay. That way he has no excuses for any future indiscretions.

Q: Why is it that me being a teenage mother and going to school plus working atleast 40 hours a week make it so hard to keep a boyfriend?
First of all, I really have to say that I respect you for not letting being a teen mom get you down. You're beating the odds, and that is an amazing thing.

My guess is that most guys your age just aren't ready for the responsibility of a family, and you've got one ready-made.

On the plus side, you are weeding out the immature, irresponsible ones. When you do find the right guy, you'll know he's in it for the long run.

Good luck!

Q: I am 17 years old and will be when I graduate, I live in California.

Legally can I move out of my house after I graduate? I have very, very good reasons however my mom will fight it just to be spiteful. Will I legally be allowed to leave?
You should be able to. If you're old enough to graduate high school and go to university, you're old enough to live on your own.

However, you'll run into some issues. I couldn't legally sign any documents, even though I was supporting myself and living alone!

Q: I really ned some remedies for congestion! My mom is sick and she has this big business thing friday and she is hosting it and needs help!!! prefer home remedies and natural suff but i will take medicine too! she is just really trying to rest her body and clear up her congestion in her nose. plus she had a bad headache today. please help ASAP!!! THANKS!!! and i will rate all of your suggestions! :)
My favourite cold medications are DayQuil (I swear by it) for just general dead-feeling, and Advil Cold and Sinus, for if there's sinus congestion causing pain.

Q: hi i have to do an STSE assignment (science, technology, society, and environment) on Hydrocarbons. Does anyone know any issues related to hydrocarbons and how they can affect STSE?. Issues relating to benzene or something. please help im stuck in a rut. =(.
Hydrocarbons are substances such as natural gas and oil.

If they include benzene, they're aromatic hydrocarbons.

I'll give you a couple of hints, because obviously you haven't tried researching...

Benzene is a carcinogen.
You burn most hydrocarbons... any ideas as to what that could lead up to?

Q: My dog went to the vet a few days ago and my dad came back saying that my dog (golden retriever) is too fat. we're giving her less food... but the thing is that i'm scared. What if she is really really hungry? I don't want her to starve. Another thing is, its winter and I don't know what to do for her to lose some weight. I know running is a good way for dogs to lose weight, and swimming.. but its super cold! I usually play tug-of-war in the house with her, and like chase her around trying to get her, which by the way is really fun, but my mom complains that she sheds too much hair and how my mom always has to clean after her. HELP
Golden retrievers do NOT feel the cold, especially if they're running around outside. Have you ever run around in circles in the freezing cold? Warms you up pretty fast!

How much are you feeding her? A large dog should eat a maximum of two cups of food twice daily. A lot of people over feed their dogs.

Also, if she is fat, she'll live off of her reserves. There's no risk of starvation.

Q: If you discovered that your drunken boyfriend had gotten a blowjob at a party from a stranger whose name he didn't even know, would you be bothered by this? I might add this was a couple of years ago, before we knew each other. He just admitted it to me and I've been weird about it ever since. I haven't even been able to talk to him. I can't get it off my mind. I've just totally lost respect for him for it. I realize people make mistakes but it's really bothering me. =/ He does regret it at least but still.

So..uh.. what's wrong with me? How can I stop holding this against him? Do I have a right to look down on him for this?

19/f

My fiancee has been very honest with me from the start about his sexual history. The only other person he has ever slept with was a random girl at a party when he was drunk, and he's been ashamed of it ever since. Your boyfriend probably feels the same way.

Your boyfriend was being considerate in telling you about this... it's important for you to know.

Personally, I don't think you should hold it against him. As long as he's not doing anything like that now, it was just a dumb kid mistake.

Q: Why are highschool teachers so mean?

This is my first year of highschool and i found out that most of them don't care about a lot of things and the way they say it makes them sound so cold and mean.

Like one teacher was really nice and then she yelled at this girl because she accidently did something wrong and said sorry. "This is highschool, you fix the problem! You don't just say SORRY and then it's all better!"

And then i hear a lot of people complaining about university teachers and some teachers tell like some bad things about their university teachers when they were in university. And that they don't care.

I'm just really wondering why? I'm a very sensitive persona nd I'm just really, really not used to it. I almsot cried because i got in trouble for the most random littliest things!

Are people just nice but as they get higher to high shcool and University they get mean and cold or something? Is it because THEIR teachers rub it off of them?

Is that even allowed in all schools? Or is the fact that we need more teachers are true and they just hire anybody?

If the point of school is to become successful people, you need help from teachers. Shouldn't the people really be picky about their personality to hire teachers for school?

What about the kids who are failing? Obviously they won't ask the teacher for help if they're really mean!

I'm really sorry to put thsi up, maybe I should copy all this on a peice of paper and give it to a random person in the school or something but I'm really scared to do that and i'm just hoping atleast some of you guys can answer even a few of these things I'm having trouble with.

Thank you.
Here's some bad news... the teachers you'll have in high school are the best ones you'll ever have. Teachers in high school are educated in the field they're teaching (usually) and they have gone to teacher's college, so you know they want to be teachers.

When you get to university, you're a number. Your name ceases to exist in their eyes. Forget interest in teaching: most of them are only there for the research funding. You have to rely on yourself and your friends for success in school, not your teachers.

Your high school teachers are just trying to wean you guys off of the "help me, teacher!" mentality. You need to learn to be more independent (and less sensitive) in order to make it on your own... and if they need to be a little harsh in order to do that, well, so be it.

Q: Hi, I am a male in high school. I have like 60 songs on iTunes, while I know some people that have thousands. I really like listening to music, but I just don't have any idea how to be "aware" of it.

Some people know every new song that comes out from various artists that I have never heard of. They know every new artist and words to every song they have ( I may be overexagerating a little). How do I keep in touch with music and find new artists so I can talk to other people about artists and their songs?

I appreciate and am grateful for every answer given. Thanks!
If you live in the United States, Pandora radio is a great way to find new music.

You type in the name of a band or song that you like, and they'll play different music. You can say whether or not you like the song they've picked, and they'll modify their selections based on that.

Q: okay well im in the school right now trying to research on a retard project, wellllll. : /

can anyone tell me about famous canadian dishes that can be carried out on a budget for normal kids that go to school eyyy ? help please. :)

MUCH appreciated by far. xoxo
You know, it's actually kind of hard to think of a distinctively Canadian food!

The best one I can think of is poutine: french fries with cheese curds on top and gravy. Tasty :D

Q: I just have a feeling that ym best friend hates me now, I don't know why and i know this isn't really helpful information for you guys but that's all I can say. There's nothing really i've been doing much but keep asking her for hlep with my work since she's so smart. Not copying, gettign help like tutoring. Everytiem i see her now or say hi she goes "-.- what do you want.."

Anything i can do? high school teachers arne't that nice for help..
Your friend probably thinks you're using her, and that the only reason you talk to her is for help with school.

My suggestion? Talk to her about your problems with school, tell her that you need help and that you'd appreciate it if she'd be your tutor. Offer to treat her to dinner and a movie or something, and she'll feel less used.

My Personal Forum

My name is Amanda and I'm 26 years old. I'm currently studying electrical engineering. Armed with a fairly odd sense of humour and a sunny outlook on life, I'll take on just about anything. I'm also cussedly stubborn, which has its ups and downs. Things get tough sometimes, and I've never been one to run from it.

In my last 8 years with Advicenators, I've gone from honours student to failing out of university (and getting back on top again!), from single to married, from tenant to homeowner.

Until lately, I have been struggling with a diagnosis of bipolar disorder and OCD, which had basically ruined my life and taken just about everything from me. I'm thankful every day for every experience I've had because of this ordeal, because it's helped to make me who I am today. Things like that really make you appreciate what you do have. Now that I'm back in work and school and starting to become myself again, I couldn't be happier. I credit Advicenators with saving my life back when I was a teenager, which is a big part of why I'm still here.

I won't necessarily give you the answers you want to hear, but I'll always be honest and do my best to help.
