how are some people so in touch with music?

Question Posted Saturday November 24 2007, 10:11 pm

Hi, I am a male in high school. I have like 60 songs on iTunes, while I know some people that have thousands. I really like listening to music, but I just don't have any idea how to be "aware" of it.

Some people know every new song that comes out from various artists that I have never heard of. They know every new artist and words to every song they have ( I may be overexagerating a little). How do I keep in touch with music and find new artists so I can talk to other people about artists and their songs?

I appreciate and am grateful for every answer given. Thanks!

Myspace is a big one..but I REALLY recommend Last.fm

On last.fm you can type in a genre, band, song...whatever and it will have related genres, bands, and songs.

Say you type in something common like:
Panic! at the Disco
You could get something a little less common like:
The Starting Line
or
Mae

Also, last.fm is a really good way to meet people with similar music interests as you.

Hope I helped!

I listen to the radio. I have various stations I love, and if I hear a song that I like, I look up the lyrics on google, or I go to the radio station's website, and they usually have a playlist of all the songs they play. Sometimes I'll look up artists or cds on amazon.ccom and they offer short clips of the songs. I usually look up the NOW cds (NOW 25, etc). They are a mix of hit songs every six months (I think).

The reason most of them know all this stuff, is basically because music is their life. I bet, that they sit in front of the TV and watch music channels trying to find the new hot songs. I bet the blare the radio in their room. And they most likely look up the lyrics to the song. Unfortuneatly, a lot of them are faking their love for music. If you really love music just do the things above. Before you know it, you will be jamming out to some hot new bands.

If you live in the United States, Pandora radio is a great way to find new music.

You type in the name of a band or song that you like, and they'll play different music. You can say whether or not you like the song they've picked, and they'll modify their selections based on that.

It is all a matter of looking for it.
I have two places that I frequent if I feel like finding new artists.
last.fm (Just type it into google, the website will appear in the hits.)
and Purevolume. (Same deal to find it as last.fm)

Those places allow you to pick a genre and scope out some artists, either signed or underground.
Last.fm even lets you type in your favourite artist/band and it will give you artists that sound similar to them.

Hope I helped. :)
