Advicenators Chat
Welcome to our chat page! The advicenators chat is in IRC land, so there are many ways for you to get in on the action.
Scheduled Chats
Since it's hard to know when lots of people will be in chat for your fun and entertainment, we have several scheduled dates when everyone is encouraged to come in and talk with people (especially if you're a moderator). These chats are on the 6th, 16th, and 26th day of the month at different times. All times are for the EASTERN time zone.
If it's not about 8:56 where you are right now, you'll need to adjust times accordingly to be EASTERN standard time. The next few upcoming chat sessons are: - Monday November 16 2009, 8:00 pm
- Thursday November 26 2009, 10:00 pm
- Sunday December 6 2009, 4:00 pm
- Wednesday December 16 2009, 8:00 pm
- Saturday December 26 2009, 10:00 pm
- Wednesday January 6 2010, 4:00 pm
Of course you're welcome to come chat whenever you want, these are just suggestions to help people get together.
Scheduled chats run for 2-3 hours, so if you're fashionably late that's okay.
How To Chat
There are two ways to connect to #advicenators: - Using a standalone IRC client:
This is the option most people prefer, because it allows you to pick your own client and customize it entirely to fit your personal needs. You can find a few IRC clients in the links section. - Using the web based IRC applet
With the web based client you don't have to install anything on your computer:
IRC Connections
The fastest coolest hippest way to chat is to simply point your IRC client this direction:
server: irc.sorcery.net
port: 9000
Type "join #advicenators" to get started. If you don't know what an IRC client is, scroll to the bottom.
IRC Clients
So you're thinking... "what client?!" An IRC client is a program you download that links you to the IRC world. There are several clients to chose from... here are our favorites:
- Trillian This is what most of our Windows users are on, from what I've heard. You can chat on many services, including IRC. Our sexy bud tweek even wrote a nice how-to guide for people chatting in #spacefem once - if you substitute "#advicenators" in there instead of "#spacefem" it works for us.
- Miranda multi-service chat program for Windows
- mIRC A compact windows IRC client
- BitchX An IRC client for everyone... Windows, Linux, Mac, BSD, whatever
- Kopete Multi-service chat agent for Linux
- Fire This is what I use in OS X when I'm on my mac.
