My grandpa died about one year ago, and the only time I cried about it is when i recieved the news on the phone. Not even at the funeral/wake..=\. But it's sort of hard to believe that I didn't because I used to have a diary and i wrote about how close i was to him and how much i loved him and such. Now for the past few days, all I have been doing is crying about him because I miss him so much. I mean i can't even watch certain shows on tv anymore because we used to watch them together, and songs that sing about relationships make me cry. My question is, why am i just starting to miss him and crying now? What should I do? This is the first time i've cried about him being gone.
Thanks for any advice. And btw, I dont have any other grandparents, and my parents and i arent that close so i cant get help from them. Thanks.
Different people deal with different things is their own ways. I know when I lost my sister, I was in the hospital room and watched her last heartbeat, but couldnt bring myself to cry even then because I was just so shocked that someone so young and dear to me was gone, she was 25. Later on it hit me real hard because once the shock wears off, the depression comes and when that wears off, the guilt comes and when that wears off the anger comes, it really is a process. The reason why you are crying so much now is because you internalized all of your feelings for so long and theres only so much one's mind can take without finally just giving in. Believe me I went through this exact same thing with my sister. Your body and mind are just finally letting out what has been pent up for so long with or without you knowing and its perfectly healthy and very theraputic. Iam not going to tell you the whole "O just think of the good times" speech because thats never what anyone wants to hear, but I will tell you to find a way to channel those emotions to something good whether that is physical, whether you write it down or whatever it is that works for you. Find a good shoulder to cry on and dont be afraid to let it all out.
When you get a PHYSICAL,
what do the doctors do?
What is involved when getting a PHYSICAL?
Do you have to pee in a cup?
He'll take all of you vital signs and measurements and you'll have to pull your underwear down and cough. The doctor may hold the sack or may just look at it, but they're testing to see if everything contracts when you cough. I never peed in a cup for a physical. For girls....I really dont know :-)
what's better:
running for 15 minutes,
or walking for a half hour?
I'll give you the real answer-
If you run a mile or you walk a mile you metabolize the same amount of calories- around 100 per mile. So time isnt the issue..distance is. Running doesnt burn more calories than walking, it just burns them faster. In addition, running helps to strengthen the cardiovascular system as well as the circulatory system. My recommendation- Run, but dont worry about how long, worry about how far.
I believe in abstinence, which is not having sex until you are married. I was just wondering how many guys would dump a girl who wouldnt have sex with him if they were going out? Guys tell me if you would dump me.
You believe what you believe and different guys believe what they believe. Depends upon the guy and what his attitude is. Personally I would not because I think that its very wrong and unfair, but its a tough question to ask because every guy is different.

Your best bet is to hire yourself a Personal Trainer who is also very nutrition saavy. Lots of Trainers just really care about how to workout and do not take nutrition as seriously as they should.
Okay well I know you guys aren't doctors but we can't get ahold of ours right now so I thought I'd ask.
My friend was at baseball practice this morning and got hit with a ball coming out of a pitching machine at 70 mph right in the forehead. He had to go to the hospital and eveything.
Well, he's over at my house now because no one is home at his house and he can't fall asleep for more than 1 1/2 hours at a time. They told him to keep his head elevated from his body to try to reduce the swelling.
He started complaining that when he uses a pillow it get very uncomfortable. We tried differnet pillows and he still doesn't want one. Do you think it would be okay if we just let him lay without a pillow or anything to keep his head up?
Do what the doctors told you to do. Similar to the RICE method- Rest, Ice, Compression, Elevation.
I'm a tiny little person (13/f) and my mom wants me to exercise. Aside from burning off fat and staying at a healthy weight, why is it important to exercise?
Other than appearance, it helps soooo many systems and actions in your body. Especially at your stage in puberty, it will send your endocrine, cardiovascular, central nervous and respiratory system into high gear and you will be able to build great resistances to sickness. Heres some benefits:
-Better sleep patterns from more melatonin being secreted
-Better mood from the increased amount of endorphins from the brain (happy hormones)
-Less secretion of the stress hormone Cortisol
-Greater resistance to sickness
-Improved stamina
-Overall better looking body
-A sense of pride knowing that you arent going to be one of the "regular" people who just sit on their ass and eat donuts and McDonalds watching TV, but that you will always be striving to improve the already great things you have done for your health
Take it seriously, but most of all find a routine you enjoy and stick with it regularly.
I was in an accident a few years ago which left my knees and ankles in a pretty bad condition. As a result, I didn't do anything much in the way of exercise for over a year, as it was just too painful. My joints are now feeling a lot better and I'm trying to get back to a better level of fitness, but after so long it's really hard to motivate myself. I've taken up jogging, but after such a long period of inactivity, my stamina is really bad. I'm also really bad at pacing myself, run too fast and then as soon as I'm out of breath (which is sadly not very far at all) just start walking. I don't want to push myself too hard and injure myself again, but I'm finding it hard to find a point between pushing myself too hard and risking hurting myself and not pushing myself enough and not improving. After a long period of inactivity, what's sensible to aim for? Should I be easing myself back into exercise more gently, or should I be pushing myself harder?
Its good to hear that you are making the effort to help yourself out. What many don't know is that when a bone is broken and it heals, it actually becomes a lot stronger than it was before it was broken. Your joints are so incredibly important and I recommend supplementing with MSM/Glucosamine Chondroitin which you can pick up in any health food store. Learning how to pace yourself is very important and the trick to increasing stamina during running is to breathe very frequently and very deeply. More oxygen=greater output. In regards to your injury, as I've said your bones and joints should be good to go if you are fully rehabilitated, now you must take measures in regards to supplementation and the level of activity to prevent making it worse. Ease yourself into a plan which makes you comfortable that includes weights and cardio exercises, but also dont be too lax in your approach.
Hey, this may be an odd question, but healthwise, is Iced Tea bad/good for you? I really like it and I was hoping it was better than drinking soda because I got too used to drinking that. So, I know it's only like 70 calories, but can anyone give me an idea here??
The 70 calorie variety is usually the unsweetened. Nestea is garbage and so is Arizona, they are just like having soda in regards to sugar. Stick to water but if you must have iced tea, have it unsweetened
I know this may sound weird but i want to gain weight but not make it noticeable so ill weigh more but wont look any diffrant because im taking wrstling and i want to be heavy so i wont be able to be taken down as easily any suggestions?
Ok let me get this straight...you want to gain weight to your frame but not look any different? What? If you want to be heavy then you're going to have to look different.....
Anyway, drink lots of whole milk, and EAT. Especially peanut butter sandwiches. Dont think that you wont need to lift weights to make all of this work either. Get in the gym and Get Serious.
okay well for a snack everyday during one of my classes i eat fruit snacks because they are small, clean and dont leave my hands sticky at all. well i know that they arent that good for you and my doctor doesnt want me eating them anymore and i was looking for an alternative. any ideas
it has to be
~ crumb free
~ not stick
~ fit in my purse
~ not too expensive
~ somewhat filling (more than fruit snacks)
~ wont crumble in my purse
~ wont make my hands sticky
~ can't need refrigeration
~cant use a spoon or fork
~ cant be destracting or take a long time to eat
~ etc
EAS Nutrition has a separate line called Body For Life and they sell crisps that are similar to Doritos and are very healthy for you. Cheddar is my favorite flavor and the bag comes with a good amount of crisps.
Will taking a lot of multivitamins help me lose weight? Or will it make me gain weight?
A multivitamin will not make you do either. It is called a "Supplement" for a specific reason- which is to "Supplement" your already existing good diet with extra nutrients in a convienient way. You need to be careful because there are fat-soluble vitamins (A,D,E,K) which if you take too many of you can suffer their symptoms of toxicity. Look there is no shortcuts to losing weight AT ALL. You just need to be consistent in good eating and its not overnight.
i was just wondering what people think of glasses. do you find them nerdy or attractive? i have to wear glasses fullo time and i am wondering if contacts are the way to go or should i wear glasses but i dont want to seem like a four eyes freak. any inputs are appreciated.
I love glasses with that whole teacher/secretary look. Just those metal square frame ones though.
Is it safe to break open Vitamin E gel filled capsules to put the gel onto scars to help them fade? Vitamin E is supposed to help with that, and I've heard that rubbing the gel on the scars is good, but I've also heard that breaking open any sort of pill is bad for you. Any insight on this?
Yes its fine, in fact its very effective. Be sure to also take some Vitamin E capsules daily also in addition to rubbing them on scars. Be careful with taking too much Vitamin E as it is a fat-soluble vitamin and can be stored when not used and when you ingest too much it can cause toxicity of the vitamin. Just follow the bottle directions. Taking in plenty of water will also help speed the process of fading the scars.
When is contest time, and what will you physically do and consume to prepare? Sorry if this is too personal. Also, can you recommend any good work outs to trim and tone the triceps? I know a proper diet and such, but what work out (using weights) can I use to really slim up my arms?
This isn't personal at all, in fact Iam flattered you asked. Contest time is March 12 and Iam really anxious lol. My competition is really good. Preparing for a contest is something that is not made for everyone. Physically, you have to really bust your ass with the weights and do as much as 2 hours of cardio a day. This is the easy part. The hard part is nutrition. As far as dieting Iam taking in 7 meals a day and drinking around 1 1/2-2 gallons of water a day and am starting to restrict higher starch carbs and focusing on leaner proteins such as chicken breast and tuna over beef. Also you must get your skin tone right so I have to begin tanning soon to get a dark base color before I have to put on the fake tan stuff onstage because the lights on the stage tend to drown out muscle definition if you aren't dark enough. I also have to pick out the right oil to put on myself for the stage so its time consuming but a really great challenge, especially trying to come up with a posing routine for the music I picked to pose to lol. If contest bodybuilding interests you in even the slightest I urge you to look into it.
Now as far as your triceps question goes- Slimming down any body part comes with cardio and the proper diet. Strength training increases muscle size. For triceps priority I recommend the following: (sets)x(reps)
Dips- 4x8-10 (This is bread and butter and will work all 3 heads of the triceps)
Laying Triceps Extensions (skullcrushers)- 4x6-8 (This will help elongate the triceps and bring all 3 heads into play in a great way.)
Rope Pushdowns- 4xFailure (This exercise really gives you a good pump and is an excellent finishing exercise since it targets that horseshoe shape of the triceps.)
Hope that routine helps.
I really want to loose weight.
But i cant be motivated.
I dont know how. i mean i have pictures of hott guys on my walls, but no room for really pretty girls with nice bodys. And adding them onto my wall would make me feel bad.
I have all the stuff needed to workout, or atleast most of the stuff. I have a treadmil, one of those hudge balls, and a workout mat. I have a 10 minute denise austin workout DVD. And i have this DVD of the girl Michael Gillian who one "the biggest loser"(tv show), which is maybe an hour. And we have no Junk food in my house whatsoever..
But I have a problem with working out..
My mom cooks dinner at 5:00 and your suppose to wait about 3 hours before you work out after eating (right?). That mean Id have to work out at 8:00ish, but i sleep need to go to sleep at 9:00 to get a good amount of sleep, and your not suppose to workout and then go to sleep are you?
So yea, i need help./
This is just a matter of personal discipline that you wont be able to acquire by asking advice columnists. This discipline comes from repeated practice of good dietary habits and life choices concerning your body. You must find out what works for you. Forget the DVD and forget that stupid Biggest Loser show and focus on what it right for you. All you need is a little fire under your ass, a floor and a street to run on...Get Serious and find out what works for you because no one but yourself can answer this question.
I'm 13 years old, and a really tiny person, and I think it's good for me to start exercising---now don't get me wrong, I don't think I'm fat or anything, but I just think it's a good idea to move my muscles. But I hate sports of all kinds. Is there anything I can do at home BESIDES push-ups and sit-ups/crunches?
Why not join a gym and lift some weights? The atmmosphere is ideal and you can meet like minded people.
i have read coloumns in magazines saying if you excersise too much it is damaging your body. is this true? i excersise at a gym for about 4 1/2 hours each week. i also do 30 mins of cardio at home. am i doing too much?
NO this is not too much. The people who write these ridiculous magazines havent done a day of REAL training in their lives and are afraid of actually sweating when they work out. They just lift their 5 lb Dumbbells and sip their Evian and work out in places even less hardcore than Curves. 4 1/2 hours each week is perfect and your cardio routine is also great and Iam sure your diet is on target too. Don't listen to those idiots...you're doing great things for your body.
What is a thesis statement?? I have to do a project along with a thesis statement and summary. I did the summary but im not to sure if i included a thesis or not. i just thought it was an opening paragraph to the story but i could be wrong.
Simply- The thesis tells the reader what your paper is all about.
Body image means a lot to most girls around adolesence, what are some exercises that can tone legs, stomach, and build muscle on arms?
Also, could there be a problem with self confidence/ selfesteem instead?
Nothing can take the place of a good exercise program coupled with a good diet. During adolesence hormones are going crazy and emotions can be tough to deal with. No one has the perfect body and there is no such thing as one. Now you mention your legs, stomach and arms. Those arent the only muscles in your body. Did you know that if you were to work your back that your biceps would take shape simply because it serves as a secondary muscle group to the primary back? What about your chest, your calves, your shoulders? Do you REALLY want a 6 pack and have no shoulders or back or anything else to go along with it? Your body functions as a whole unit and must be worked as if it is a whole unit. Your biceps and your abs will happen on their own if you focus hard on doing exercises that involve the entire body head to toe- Look up exercises such as Squats and Deadlifts and Chin-ups. My arms have grown way more from doing 5 sets of chin-ups during a back workout than 12 sets of bicep curls. Trust me you cannot pick and choose what you want to look good, you must train your body as a unit. Think of all the benefits of this- Improved mood, better sleep, better self-esteem and life choices and of course- a better looking you. Get down and dirty and sweat and lift and run because believe me exercise and nutrition can take you places and make you learn things about yourself you never thought possible if YOU let it. Be strong.
