i have read coloumns in magazines saying if you excersise too much it is damaging your body. is this true? i excersise at a gym for about 4 1/2 hours each week. i also do 30 mins of cardio at home. am i doing too much?

Too much is if you don't eat, don't sleep, don't have a cup of tea and read a book--you just exercise all the time. The magazines aren't lying, they're just saying that it's important to exercise but you must also rest! [ tasuki's advice column | Ask tasuki A Question ]

The people who write these ridiculous magazines havent done a day of REAL training in their lives and are afraid of actually sweating when they work out. They just lift their 5 lb Dumbbells and sip their Evian and work out in places even less hardcore than Curves. 4 1/2 hours each week is perfect and your cardio routine is also great and Iam sure your diet is on target too. Don't listen to those idiots...you're doing great things for your body. [ MikeCFT's advice column | Ask MikeCFT A Question ]

LoveNJstyle answered Sunday January 15 2006, 6:07 pm: no 4 1/2 hours a week with cardio is fine! when you start running excessively or doing 3 hours at the gym/cardio everyday...then it's too much. one or two hours is the norm. it's too much when you miss periods...that's when it gets unhealthy. <3 [ LoveNJstyle's advice column | Ask LoveNJstyle A Question ]
DancinCutie08 answered Sunday January 15 2006, 5:52 pm: yes it can be harmful but yours isnt harmful at all! they mean really if your burning more calories than you are eating its unsafe. like i went to the gym 1 hour everyday plus had 30 min of gym class everyday and i didnt even burn half of the calories i ate in 1 day. like 15 min of cardio workout you only burn around 100-200 calories max and the average person eats like 2000 calories a day so you are doing just fine. the only time when you have to worry is if you are doing more than 3 hours a day.. thats when it starts getting unsafe especially if you are a woman under the age of 20 with no kids [ DancinCutie08's advice column | Ask DancinCutie08 A Question ]
