I use to play lots and lots of tennis. I am currently almost 61 years old. And my fav snack is a very healthy snack. In fact I still use them. We sold them in the herb store, they are made locally in Oregon by a woman who started her business when she wanted her kids to have heathy snacks in their lunches. Now she has a very successful business doing that for other parents' kids and their lunches. I call my fav snack a 'green ball' because it it. It contains 1,000mg of spirulina, which is a blue green algea and is a complete food. Also in these balls there almond butter, chopped almonds that the ball is rolled in and four herbs poweders that come my the herb store. They help balance blood sugar levels and even my little diabetic 70yo friend keeps on in her purse, car and by her bed in case her blood sugar drops. When I use to play tennis, I always carried them in my athletic bag or racquet bag and often ate one before playing or between games. I don't know where you live, but I know Betty Lou ships all over the country and this is snack that would be good for your whole family! Here is there website: =category&show=nut+butter+balls&item=ITEM027-40
or if that doesn't' work I found it through a google search, searching for Betty Lou's and then going to the 'balls section' and looking for the spirulina balls..... good luck!
I don't know.... you can try your natural foods stores or any outlet that sells organic things.... perhaps they will have them or could order them for you.... for the company I told you about....I'm sorry I didn't mean to confuse you..... you could orden them from our local herb store here, they are 99cents each.... their number is: 800-308-0277.... they will have to charge you shipping and handling.... I'm really sorry I didn't mean for this to get complicated for you.... look in your phone book for natural foods groceries or health food stores and see if they can order from Betty Lou's in Oregon.... I hope this works out for you! They are really the best snack I know of. Also, you could find recipes in health food type books at your library I bet.... I've heard of nut butter ball recipes or go online and look for such a recipe!!! make you own and you'll know it's a healthy snack.... you can freeze some and keep some ready for snackin'.... make a big batch and then you won't have to make a batch very often.... good luck! maybe some peanuts or a chocolate bar.. hershys chocolate! mmmm yumm!
--- Edit ---
humm... why dont you try died fruit and put it in a little baggy? thats good for you.
or maybe a slice of moist bread.. not moist as in wet... but like it feels moist so it wont like get a crumby and crumble.
humm... whatelse?
oh right and my gum theory, sugar free gum, sugar free candy.
oOoOor...
little teddygrams in a baggy :) theyre bitesized and cheap- well in NY they are.

Cashews are definitely ok, but make sure they are unsalted. Cashews are one the saltiest nuts naturally. I'm sorry you are unable to eat fruit- it is an excellent snack. Keep in mind though that while fruits do have sugar they are not bad for you! The key to a healthy diet (when I say diet I mean lifestyle not weight loss) is everthing in moderation! If you have a single serving of fruit in the morning, the afternoon and maybe instead of dessert at dinner then you aren't getting too much. But of course I don't actually know why you can't so.. I was going to come back and suggest dried fruit instead of regular fruit because it is a great snack but maybe not now. Good luck though- I'm sure you'll be able to figure this out! And remember- if your doctor tells you to do something don't forget to ask him how. If he says no fruit snacks say "well then what instead?" :-)

I think your best choices are actually the healthiest choices!
-grapes
-celery
-carrots
-nuts (not peanuts or salted nuts- walnuts, pecans, almonds etc)
-chocolate covered nuts(if it is dark chocolate, and in small quantities- it is very good for your heart! how cool is that)
-cherry tomatoes
-blueberries
-Cheerios or other non sugary cereal
-Raisins
-cheese cubes (cheese can stay in your purse for a little while- it would be like having it in your lunch and it wouldn't go bad in that short amount of time)
-I would say like apple slices or oranges but sometimes that can be a little messy unless it's already pealed.
-I wouldn't really recommend granola because it is very sugary. If it is homemade that's a little different but the chewy kind that comes with like chocolate chips in it is not really good for you at all. It's a snack that can be a good alternative for fruit snacks but I wouldn't recommend it.
Keep in mind- if not for snack, these are excellent things to add to your lunches and they are all very healthy! Tomatoes and blueberries are on the list of foods that help prevent cancer and help your body in ways you couldn't imagine! I think they are refered to as Superfoods??
sizzlinmandolin answered Wednesday January 11 2006, 9:31 pm: Granola bars are probably your best option just as long as you get the right kind. Crunchy ones will crumble and some may be a little sticky. I know it sounds oober healthy, but I've found that granola bars can be very good. I've always loved NutriGrain bars and they fit all of your stipulations. Brand name cereal granola bars are usually very good too. I've had the Special K strawberry ones and they're #1 in my book. My advice to you is to try a few different kinds of granola bars because you're bound to find something that you'll enjoy. If you're really into the fruit snacks though, they do have certain kinds that are made with real fruit and have vitamins and things in them. Those would work well too. I wish you lots of luck and I hope that I was able to help you. :) [ sizzlinmandolin's advice column | Ask sizzlinmandolin A Question ]
