"Do not pity the dead, Harry. Pity the living, and, above all those who live without love" - Albus Dumbledore

Hi, I'm Laura. I'm a senior in college & I'm slowly deciding what I want to do with my life. I love Harry Potter, coffee, writing, and sleeping (amongst other things). I'll never claim to know everything, but I'm confident in my ability to help people with their problems. Feel free to send me an inbox question; I'll get back to you!

A few thoughts I've gathered from my teenage years (and being on this site for most of them!):
1. If you Google song lyrics, the song will come up 99% of the time.
2. Dress to fit your body type, and buy the size that fits. If you're a size 6, squeezing into a 4 won't make you look skinnier. It makes you look fat when you aren't.
3. You will never regret waiting to lose your virginity.
4. There is such a thing as a stupid question, but we're all allowed to ask them.

BU 2014 :)

wicked awesome conversations

^my forum, liven it up a little?

advice

the top layer of my nails is lie peeling and stuff and sometimes the side of my nail is like yellowish how can i stop the peeling?

Using non-acetone poliosh remover keeps your nail from peeling so much (plus it doesn't smell like a funeral home, a huge plus). Moisturize your nails when you put lotion on your hands, kepp the edges clipped, and wear polish a few days a week (to keep the nail from chipping/peeling and all that good stuff)

it's also one of those things that YOU notice more than anyone else, so don't worry about it too much =)

Is it possible to put songs from my ipod onto my computer? Recently my computer got many viruses and Windows (XP) has to be reinstalled so I lost almost all of the music on my computer. Now on iTunes it says names of songs, with an exclamation point beside it, meaning that iTunes cannot find the songs on my computer. Do I have any other options?

Advice is appreciated :)
- Emilyy

haloguy answered this question awhile back. I'm not taking credit for this in any way, and I know that it works =D

Hoook up your iPod (ignore messages from iTunes for now) and open My Computer. Go to Tools->Folder options->View. Then click "Show Hidden Files and Folders" and click OK.

Your iPod should then show up on the screen slightly blurred out (the icon).

Opem the "Music" folder, and copy the folder(s) that show up to your desktop or somewhere you'll remember (AND KEEP THEM IN A FOLDER!! otherwise you're in for a six-hour chore!)

Then, open iTunes and go to Add Folder to Library. I can't for the life of me remember the name of the place you go. It's on the top left, I'm pretty sure it's file. Haha, anyways.

Add the folders you just copied from your iPod to your iTunes library, and all your songs should be there. =)

I've had my iPod mini for about eleven months and it's always worked fine. However, recently I've noticed a problem with playing music on it. There are certain songs that just won't play. If the iPod randomly selects one of these songs then it will just skip past it until it finds a song that will play. I've tried going to the albums that the songs are on and selecting them and trying to play them that way, but that doesn't work either.

Has anyone had this problem with their iPod mini or know how to solve it?

Yep, I've had the same problem. I first updated the software on my iPod, and that sometimes solved the problem. If not, just reset your iPod then re-load all your music onto it. If that still dones't solve your problem, burn the songs that won't play on your iPod onto a CD, delete thsoe songs off your iPod, then re-import the files using the CD.

hope I helped! ♥

I've been looking around for homecoming dresses with thicker straps, but I'm having a hard time. They don't have to be really wide, I would just like to be able to wear a regular bra underneath it. Strapless bras are always a pain because you have to keep pulling them up and even with underwire, they hardly support anything. Does anyone know where I might be able to find a dress with thicker straps? Thanks a lot!!!

Either get a dress with a halter, so you can wear a convertible bra with it.

Or, you can get a spaghetti strap dress and wear a bra with clear straps.

ok i have a boyfriend. i just turned 14 and i am female but its his first relationship and he isnt really expierienced...but then theres this guy on myspace ive had a crush on for years..but thts why were friends on myspace, cuz he moved a while ago... ='( but, he put me as his 2nd top friend and has been showing an interest in me...and hes wicked nice and has everything i want! and then theres another guy...a hot guy i have alot of interest in...who also has been showing interest in me and is a childhood friend.

i dont know wht to do, and i was hoping to get some help..please help me!!!

You're 14. Not many guys your age are going to have a lot of experience. Is there something you HATE about the guy you're dating right now? Try not to focus on his lack of experience with girls, and instead on the reasons you probably liked him to begin with- personality, sense of humor, et cetera. The guy you're friends with on myspace, it seems as though he wants to stay that way, since you've been friends for a long time and he hasn't said anything to you, evne on myspace. As for the other guy, is the only reason you like him because he's attractive? Good looks last for about two weeks, tops. If that's the basis of your relationship, its not going to last long, I'll be honest with you. Besides, ywould you be willing to dump your boyfriend for either of these guys? Your bofriend is showing an interest in you too.. BY GOING OUT WITH YOU IN THE FIRST PLACE!!!

So as for what you should do, I'd say stay with your current boyfriend. You both like each other enough to go out. and you're 14. See how this relationship works out. And keep those other two guys on your radar, but don't dump someone who likes you for someone's whos better looking. That's kinda shallow.

Have have think brown hair, and when i straighten it and go outside ((anywhere even if it is low humidity)) it frizzes up and goes curly. Is there something i can use so it doesn't get this way?

Put Frizz Ease, Garnier Fructis, or Paul Mitchell serum in your hair when it's wet, and after its dry.

Put a smoothing or straightening creme in your hair just before you straighten (I've had great results with Herbal Essences and L'Oreal).

Use a really good straightener that gets super-hot. Othewise, you go over the same spot 9278798475 times and, well, you dont want that!

Lastly, put a good amount of hairspray in your hair before you go outside. It'll "seal" the hair from humidity/moisture and also hold the shape.

Why don't clothes have expiration dates? I want new socks before they get holes.

hahaha that made me laugh. And they don't come with expiration dates because every sock is an INDIVIDUAL and makes their OWN decisions, and decides to crap out at a different time than its fellow underwear-drawer mates =]

14/f. okay in the past month or so i've noticed that in the back of my head there is this spot of hair that is very oily. it is right in the back of my head all the way at the top by my scalp. it is very annoying and it actually LOOKS oily. so here are my questions:

1) what is it??
2) how do i get rid of it??

THANKS SO MUCH!! i would really like to get this taken care of before schoool starts.

It's possible you're just missing that spot when you shampoo. Also, use a shampoo specifically made for oily hair, like a clarifying shampoo or Head and Shoulders.

Me and my boyfriend are planning on having sex soon. Neither of us have ever done it before, so we have no idea what you are supposed to do without getting hurt. I am 13 and he is 14, do you think that it to early, even with protection?? Any advice would help.

I'm not going to tell you what to do. Just don't do anything you'll regret later on. It's hard to figure that out when you're young, because, well, you can't look back five years already. But think about your reasons why you want to have sex- is it only because you want to be able to say "I'm not a virgin!!" or do you really care about this person? There's nothing wrong with being a virgin. Also, make sure he won't tell all his friends about it afterwards, because the rumors will be AWFUL. And if teachers find out, it's just not pretty. Just something to keep in mind =]

Definitely use protection. And consider going on birth control- it may cause you to gain some weight, but it'll be another way to protect yourself, and also regulates your period and lessens cramps. I don't know what state you live in, so you may need a parent to get it.

Whatever you decide, make sure it's YOUR decision and not someone else's.

i saw the movie the 40 year old virgin, and at the part where that blonde girl goes in the bathtub and masturbates with the bath hose thing, it made me want to try it to see what it felt like but i don't have one of those in my bathtub. so i tried doing it with an empty bathtub and letting the water run normally out and it was the most arousing feeling i have ever felt. however, i have done this a few times now, and my stomach feels bigger. is it possible that the water entered my body and cannot come out? please help, i'm scared!

No, that's not possible. It's probably just muscle cramps.

whats the big deal with 60's music. my perants are always saying how that music was so much better and all the artist back then are the best and people now just lip sync and dont write thier own music and suck. same with the public. all the best ratted songs and albums and artists are old songs and artists.

i just don't know why that music is apperantly so much better, people are saying that now people don't write thier own songs or play thier own insterments or lip sync but lots of artist did the same thing like elvis and the supremes and many girl groups and the monkees and cher and it's just kindof enoying. can anyone please explain to me why that music is better or why it's more popular.

thanks

Everyone's entitled to their own opinion. Each generation had their own distinct sound and those who grew up with, say, 90s music tend to like it.

I see where your parents are coming from with the whole "music back then was better" because pop music these days is mostly for profit, and artists are no longer signed soley because they have talent. If they're good looking and have dancing skills but can't sing for beans, it doesn't matter. the MTV generation sucks it all up, buys the albums, and goes to the concerts. This means lots of money for the record labels. These days, music is MOSTLY about making money, not musical ability. It's a shame.

However, modern music shouldn't be judged just by what's on mainstream top 40 radio. There's plently of decent bands out there that haven't made it big. Just like any other generation, some music sucks, and some music rocks your socks off. It call comes down to what you like. Listen to what you want, and let others do the same. And remind your parents that there was more than one decade of music. Maybe they can broaden their horizons a little too.

okay im 13/f and mi hair is really frizzy wat do i do?

First off, I recommend a regular haircut, or you can trim your hair yourself (just be really careful!). This will prevent split ends which will make even the best hair lookm icky and unkept. Then, use appropriate hair products for your ahir type and what you're doing to it. BUt don't overdo anything, either, because then your ahir will be all weighed down and gross =)

Use Hair gel and hairspray if your hair is curly or you curled it.

Straightening cream, FrizzEase serum (or something along those lines) and hairspray if you're straightening or your hair is straight. The best straigtheners are ceramic, but any kind that works for your hair is fine. Ceramics dont' work for some people so find one you like.

Don't skimp on the hairspray (but don't drench your hair either) because it'll protect your hair from humidity and keep everything under control.

Lastly, use a good shampoo that controls frizz or moisturizes. I recommend Pantene and Bed Head Moisture Maniac.

I have a coldsore/zit that appears every now and then at the edgge of my upper lip. I applied some acne treatment like usual, but instead of just applying it on the spot, I applied it all along my entire upper lip. Now my entire upper lip burns as if there's more than just more zit. But I don't see any except that one. Should I be worried?

nah, that's normal. Acne medication can do that, and the skin around your mouth is more sensitive than the rest of your face.

I've heard that switching toothpastes can cause pimples around your mouth, but I don't know if this is true. It sounds crazy to me, but yea I suppose it could happen.

Don't worry about it. if it doesnt og away in a few days, it may be a cold sore. Abreva will get rid of it, or just wait it out (even though theyre icky) and just put some foundation or concealer on it.

is it true that the average joe only uses about 10 percent of their brain and that people like psychics or w/e have learned to "tune in" to the other part of their brain and thats how they "see" stuff?

Yea, it's true. I think the average is about one-fourth of your brain. There'sa part of your brain that controls free thoughts and imagination/creativity/etc. I feel really stupid now, because I forgot what it's called. But I rememeber that Albert Einstein's brain, when autopsied, that part was abnormally large, which allowed him to make so many discoveries and such.

=)

hi, well im 14 and a guy. i have medium legnth hair, thats kind of thick and curly. i want the back of my hair to stand up, like be spikey and not fall but it just wont happen! i dont know if its the hair or the dozens of products ive tried it with. any advice?

Try a stronger hold gel, or maybe a wax. I know that Bed Head has something called mohawk gel; it comes in a silver squeeze bottle. got2b also has a couple strong hold gels, along with a Freeze spray (in a yellow can) that I've heard works great.

The problem may also be with your hair. You can try cutting it if nothing else works. And if you hate it, it'll grow back. So no worries!

my boobs are kinda sore but like only when i kinda mash on em does that mean theyre growing??

yea, and you could also be getting your period soon.

It may just be the simple fact that you've been mashing on them too. They're sensitive!

ok im really self concious about the bags under my eyes. like i think they are the only thing people notice about me. and i am meeting this dude on monday. is there anyway i ca make them look like lighter???? i try cover up but that dosnt work that great.....help!!!

Here's a few remedies that i KNOW for sure work:
-chilled cucumber or potato slices over your eyes
-cool facecloth
-moist teabags
-chilled spoons
-icepack
-getting enough sleep helps prevent them in the first place.

I know a few makeup brands that make an undereye concealer (New York Color has one that I know of). It has certain color tones in it to disguise them, and the one I mentioned is only like three dollars. Also, try some foundation instead of concealer if you haven't already. That might help too.

hope I helped! ♥
