whats the big deal with 60's music. my perants are always saying how that music was so much better and all the artist back then are the best and people now just lip sync and dont write thier own music and suck. same with the public. all the best ratted songs and albums and artists are old songs and artists.
i just don't know why that music is apperantly so much better, people are saying that now people don't write thier own songs or play thier own insterments or lip sync but lots of artist did the same thing like elvis and the supremes and many girl groups and the monkees and cher and it's just kindof enoying. can anyone please explain to me why that music is better or why it's more popular.
jokerzgrl answered Monday August 21 2006, 6:11 pm: The music back then had a lot more heart. There were a lot of big social issues at the time. It was highly original and catchy. And the feeling behind it. The love, the freedom. And yes....the drug refrences, but beyond that, it was new and fresh and exciting.

x0xPREPx0x answered Monday August 21 2006, 3:35 pm: your parents are almost right. i am only 15 and im obsessed with music from the 60's 70's and 80's. ever since the 90's it has mostly been very over produced and synthesized, so the question, "is this really music?" is asked quite often. Also another important factor is that currently, most artists produce music to be rich and famous. why else do you think they are trying to sell as many records as possible and trying to stay on the charts. its why many artists and musicians do commercials, (for publicity). I believe that most of todays music is garbage and older music is much better, but im not going to trash todays artists. i give everyone credit for atleast trying. Vikki27 answered Monday August 21 2006, 2:06 pm: Actually, just to put my two penny's worth in here, I agree with your parents!
I'm 21 and have always been a fan of music from the 60's, 70's and 80's. My theory is that you can't know where you're going until you know where you've been. All the music we have today has developed from the music that once was and as such, it should be appreciated.
There were a lot of similarities and differences between the music that once was and the music that is now. The major difference as far as I am concerned is that although there were songwriters, many artists wrote music themselves and the songs had real meaning behind the lyrics. These days, the majority of music is about sex and love (or lack thereof). It lacks originality and inspiration in the most part. People didn't get to be singers purely because they wanted to be famous but because someone heard them playing and truly believed they had talent. They also didn't have to rely solely on their looks to be famous singers. The number of people today who, after their band/group has broken up have said "Yeah, I can't actually sing!" There is even one band here in the UK where one of the lead singers in a group was hired, even though she couldn't sing, because she was a page 3 model!
Music back then wasn't aggressive, it wasn't violent, it wasn't as crude or vulgar and a lot of it held true meaning. You don't get that with a lot of the music today. You get (in my opinion) rubbish like Slipknot and so on, where there is not only no discernable tune but they do nothing but scream and swear and shout through the 'song'.
Music should always touch you. You should be able to feel it and relate to it and let it move you. I can say that about more music from times gone by than I can about music today.
Don't shut out older music because it's something your parents like. It's okay to be eclectic. I've been to concerts of present day bands but I still go to David Cassidy and Donny Osmond concerts with my Mum! You should try to appreciate music in all its forms and recognise that without the music that came before, you wouldn't have the music you enjoy so much now. SoNuLiCiOuSsS answered Monday August 21 2006, 12:01 pm: It's more important to them becuase that was music from their generation. One person's trash is another person's treasure. I've personally never heard any1 in my age group or any1 in all for that matter say that 60's music was better than music today, and there are still plenty of artist out there that write their own music. As far as lip syncing, SOMEONE had to have sung the song that you are listening to, so why does it matter if that person is lip synching. Also we have a lot more technology in this time period than they had in the 60's that is applied to current music. That's what our generation enjoys and we are going to have a lot more in the future. Our children are going to listen to music that we wont enjoy as much as we enjoyed when we were young. It's a part of life. [ SoNuLiCiOuSsS's advice column | Ask SoNuLiCiOuSsS A Question ]
LM answered Monday August 21 2006, 9:53 am: Everyone's entitled to their own opinion. Each generation had their own distinct sound and those who grew up with, say, 90s music tend to like it.
I see where your parents are coming from with the whole "music back then was better" because pop music these days is mostly for profit, and artists are no longer signed soley because they have talent. If they're good looking and have dancing skills but can't sing for beans, it doesn't matter. the MTV generation sucks it all up, buys the albums, and goes to the concerts. This means lots of money for the record labels. These days, music is MOSTLY about making money, not musical ability. It's a shame.
However, modern music shouldn't be judged just by what's on mainstream top 40 radio. There's plently of decent bands out there that haven't made it big. Just like any other generation, some music sucks, and some music rocks your socks off. It call comes down to what you like. Listen to what you want, and let others do the same. And remind your parents that there was more than one decade of music. Maybe they can broaden their horizons a little too. [ LM's advice column | Ask LM A Question ]
AskAndy answered Monday August 21 2006, 8:11 am: Your parents will obviously think your music is worse than theirs. the only thing is back then everything was new. now were using those old songs to make newer songs but with curse words and people half naked. back then the original things were best, people who got signed to record deals could sing without a backup track, like they had more skill and could sing better. i wouldnt say its more popular now. think about half the people out today. most of them have been caught lipsyncing but back then it wouldnt happen. people can get signed if they have the least bit of talet now. back then you had to be really good. just the quality and originality was better then than it is now, and most people are biased to the music they listened to [ AskAndy's advice column | Ask AskAndy A Question ]
