psychics

Question Posted Saturday August 19 2006, 5:07 pm

is it true that the average joe only uses about 10 percent of their brain and that people like psychics or w/e have learned to "tune in" to the other part of their brain and thats how they "see" stuff?

That is crap, and I am an actual scientist so I know. People use there entire brains, and sometimes healing can occur and new brain matter is form due to injury, but that's it. Some people have very intuitive talents, it's true, but that hasn't a thing to do with the amount of brain is used by an individual. In other words, there is no way to "become psyshic" by tapping into your "unused brainpower".

No that isn't true. The great Harry Houdini spent much of his career trying to expose fake psychics and people claiming to have clairvoyant and paranormal abilities; even performing some of the feats in his stage shows. This came from the fact that he was constantly trying to contact his mother beyond the grave by holding a seance and even Houdini was conned by one of these people. I would love to see Sylvia Brown do her thing in a scientifically controlled enviornment just to prove she isnt doing what she claims she is.

okay first of all let me say i'm not supposed to beliv ein psychics but this is how i see it. yes everybody does use only 10% of thier brian (i personaly think some use it better than others but that part's true) and this is including our imagination and the part of it that we use when we dream. that's the prt i think psychics "tune into", thier imagination. i think some people (like psychics) can read things and people better than oothers can and that's why thier "visions" or wutever can be true, becuase they can read the people and the situation and kown more-than-likely what will happen. i however don't think that they use more of thier brian than anyone else.

Well be careful here. It is true that we only use a small portion of our brains. It however does not follow that "psychics" use their brains any differently. This is what they sometimes say to add an element of "science" into their little show.

You know, there is a fund out there run by that magician James Randi (actually there are a few but his is the biggest). Anyway they will give 1 million dollars to anyone who can show any sort of paranormal abilities of any kind in a scientifically controlled environment. Its been around for years. No one has even passed the preliminary tests though people have come from all corners of the globe.

We use all of our brain...just 10% at one time.

LM answered Saturday August 19 2006, 10:55 pm:
Yea, it's true. I think the average is about one-fourth of your brain. There'sa part of your brain that controls free thoughts and imagination/creativity/etc. I feel really stupid now, because I forgot what it's called. But I rememeber that Albert Einstein's brain, when autopsied, that part was abnormally large, which allowed him to make so many discoveries and such.

=)
