most people will say when you breath that means you are leaving when you don't then you are dead....

I am a great deal older than most of the advisers on this site, so my advice will be somewhat different from what you may have received and may continue to receive from others.
What is the meaning of life? That’s one heck of a question you asked. I do not believe there is just one answer to that question; as I believe life is what you make of it.
For intendance ever since you were a small child the adults in your life have asked you what you want to be when you grow up. Your answers differ based on many different factors in your life. Most children answer Police Officers, Fire Fighters, Doctors and Lawyers. Then as they get older and start their education they become interested in different things as they learn more. Some do go on to be Doctors, Lawyers, Police Officers and Fire Fighters. Others become Teachers, Pilots, Truck Drivers, Electricians, Plumbers, Carpenters, and other needed professions. All of this is the result of our ability to learn and be inquisitive.
We all follow a path in life that we ourselves layout for us; based on upbringing, heritage and education. From this we choose what we want from life. We could want riches, fame or we could want life handed to us. Life is a series of choices that we make to get what we want from life. To me that is the meaning of life.

well, it really depends on the person who asks this. do you like sports? do you prefer to play the cello? if you like different things in life, you have a different meaning. God put you on this planet for a reason, and whatever you are good at is a gift from Him. even if you don't like your gift.
there is another thing that could be an answer: to help people and respect others. this could be something that is hard for someone who is shy, and it could be easy for someone who is very good at being social. it is not always easy.

well....for some people it means the hell that comes before heaven. others think its the greatest thing that ever happened. i think that life is like a rose, even the most beautiful things die, no matter what. life, my friend, is a beautiful thing but no matter how nice or how beautiful it is, it will die. and sometimes the death of beautiful things are a good thing, some are bad. for you it seems that the death of this beautiful thing will be another beautiful thing. but before you think of this just think of all your family members, will life be as beautiful with out you?

This question was on a Philosophy exam once (I wasn't part of it, I just heard the story). 99% of the candidates wrote long winded essays saying to inspire people, to contribute to the economy, to make people's lives better, etc etc etc. These all got grades C-E.
One guy wrote 'I don't know', walked out...and got an A*.
Just thought I'd share that story :)
And as for me personally...I think everyone's life has a different meaning, so no-one can truly answer that question. I guess, in it's most basic form, the meaning of life is to live.

the meaning of life.... there is no right or wrong answer.... one meaning is to reproduce and survive, this is the nature reason. all animals, and plants have two goals in life, survival and reproduction. another meaning, in a religious sence, is to serve the lord, of your god depending on your religion.... it could mean to the everyday man or woman to do the simple things in life, or even to make a bigger impact. one woman i know (i'm living in Africa right now) teaches the african women to become teachers. this can be a 'meaning' in her life. not all people have those kind of purposes tho and many of them follow the first two examples i gave. the people of indonesia, (i lived there for 7 of my 14 years of life) they dont see themselves as useful to the world, so wat do they do? they fuck... literally... the population of indonesia almost matches that of america, and is predicted to double by 2015. the meaning of there 'lives' is to reproduce.... there is no right or wrong answer... i hope you understand....

It means that you have an effect on what is going on, be it little or major. The meaning of life is a chance, a chance to get somthing that some people never got; the babies that have been aborted, the people that have been killed for whatever reason, and the babies that have been "miscarried" which is somthing that happens. That is the meaning of life, its about choices, effectiveness, and chances. And if you were thinking of ending either yours, or having somthing aborted, dont, because you will be ending somthing great. If you are/were goin through a hard time right now, and you do want to end it, then you need to hold on, let whatever bad thing that is happening. Also think of those who would be heartstruck if you did. And im hoping to God that you are getting really annoyed with me telling you this because the thought never crossed your mind, but i just want to make sure...

Sorry that you don't get it. If you read Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy by Douglas Adams, you will get it. There is a movie of that book coming out soon that might mention it (I don't see why they wouldn't if the movie is done well). So read the book or watch the movie and then you will understand. I don't think it's fair to rate me a one just because you hadn't read the book, but whatever, I guess it doesn't matter that much.

thats a pretty good question i ask myself and my religion teacher that all the time. And I believe that whether we know it or not God has a plan for every one of us even though we may not realize it. So even though life sucks 99.9% of the time we are here for a reason whether it's to help someone else or what not. I just know that everyday whether we realize it or not we have an effect on someones elses life in some way or another and I think that makes life meaningful just by itself.
