"Do not pity the dead, Harry. Pity the living, and, above all those who live without love" - Albus DumbledoreHi, I'm Laura. I'm a senior in college & I'm slowly deciding what I want to do with my life. I love Harry Potter, coffee, writing, and sleeping (amongst other things). I'll never claim to know everything, but I'm confident in my ability to help people with their problems. Feel free to send me an inbox question; I'll get back to you!
A few thoughts I've gathered from my teenage years (and being on this site for most of them!):
1. If you Google song lyrics, the song will come up 99% of the time.
2. Dress to fit your body type, and buy the size that fits. If you're a size 6, squeezing into a 4 won't make you look skinnier. It makes you look fat when you aren't.
3. You will never regret waiting to lose your virginity.
4. There is such a thing as a stupid question, but we're all allowed to ask them.
BU 2014 :)
wicked awesome conversations
^my forum, liven it up a little?
advice
my nose is soo itchy! i'm pretty sure its allergies but how do i make it stop itching. all i want to do all day is scratch it and its kind of embarassing! help please!
Use moisturizer, or even a hydrocortizone cream.
The cream is specifically designed to get rid of itching, whereas moisturizer will prevent your skin from getting dry & itchy in the first place.
If you have sensitive skin, a really good moisturizer is eucerin cream. It comes in a white tub & you can get it at CVS for around seven dollars.
If you know what they are, do you use two per hole (one at the back and one at the front) or just one for either side of a hole?
Haha, I call those things doughnuts =]
I usually only use them on one side. I only put two if the paper is especially thin, or if it's the first page in a binder (because it gets more worn out from being flipped around all the time) or if the hole is so large, the sticky part of the reinforcement makes other pages stick together, if you can get what I'm explaining.
It doesn't matter all that much, but I've found that if you use two on every hole, it makes your binder pages take up a lot more space.
okay well there is this guy named joe, and he is one of my friends. hes having a party over the weekend (for his b-day) but i wasnt invited :(
we are friends and we talk and everything, but i dont understand why he didnt invite me. it makes it even worse that he invited a WHOLE BUNCH of people, and not me. what do i do? (and i cant just do something else with my friends that night, because all of them are going to his party)
his girlfriend (one of my close friends) asked me if i was going and i told her that i wasnt invited to it & she was also surprised that i wasnt invited. she said that she was going to ask him why/if he invited me... if he does end up inviting me, wont it be like a pity invite?
Nope. I forgot to invite my best friend to a party when I first sent out invitations. I talked to her so much & planned the party with her I forgot to formally give her an invite.
Since you're friends, its highly unlikely that it'd be a pity invite. He could have truly forgotten.

I was just wondering, how come most of the stuff that's on clearance on the hollister website usually can't be found in the store? like sometimes i'll go out to buy something on clearance from hollister that i saw on the site isn't there.
Every store has a different inventory. If everyone goes and buys a pink fleece on clearance from Elerald Square, obviously that store will no longer have the pink fleece. When you buy online, you're buying what's left over in the warehouse. So, something could no longer be in the warehouse, but still be in a store. It works both ways.
is boston a nice city, or is it like full of crime and stuff? i'm just wondering because i hear cool things and how beautiful it is and i just want to know if it's true/ is Boston University a good one? any info on the university or city would be greaaaaaaaat! thanks!
Boston University:
http://www.bu.edu/
BU is a really good college. I know they have a good engineering program because I went there once for FIRST Robotics & they had a bunch of information about engineering. They also have things like psychology, and other majors too (I just know of those two because I research them frequently. Sign up at CollegeBoard.com if you haven't already; there is SO much useful information there & it's all free.)
I've heard that BU isn't located in the BEST part of Boston, but far from the worst. I've been there during the day, walking in group with friends (all high school age, with a couple teachers) and I felt totally comfortable, there aren't like, gun-weilding lunatics around every corner or anything. You'll be safe; there's campus security and police do patrol the city all the time. Just don't walk the streets alone at three in the morning... then again, you really shouldn't do that in ANY city. The location isn't bad, so I wouldn't let that stop you from going to BU if you're interested in going to college there. Massachusetts is a really popular state for college students- so you won't be alone =]

Which do you think is better for a book? A romance about teenagers where the characters learn frienship and life skills or one kinda like mean girls in a way where there is this girl who goes and gets messed up in the popular crown and that book talks a little about most situations facing teens today:popularity, drinking, sex, partying, pregnancy, ect. i think the romance one may be better because its also about who you are and sounds better but idk which to choose. thanks!!! and i will rate *high* if you tell me your opinion cause i want as many responses as possible!!! :D
I think the second one would be better for a book. More teens would be able to relate to it, and a lot of us my age or so, we only read books if we can relate to them. It would be especially effective/good reading if the main characters learned a lesson through what the popular crowd does.
Now, as for what book would be better, the first one might be a better-quality, more orignal book. But depending on who writes it, they both could be worth reading.
Hope that helps!

ok my brother freind has a razor cellphone and he records songs without his computer or internet on cellphone i have a razor to but my brother wont tell me how to record so how do you?
The button the right. It's really big and if you press it you get the say a command thingy. Press it, and hold it down for a few seconds. That should start the recorder.
i got highlights a long tme ago and i miss my normal color. i dont wanna rehighlight it or dye it! but now it starts down my head. is there any way i can just get my highlights out like a shampoo or anything? nnothing to make it frizzy! thanks.
Shampoos like John Freida enhance your natural color without depositing dye. Your color changes slightly, about one shade lighter or darker, after you use them for awhile. That could help your highlights blend in better.
Beyond that, there isn't much you can do without dyeing over. Keep in mind that if you use a permanent dye, you'll most likely have to do so only once, and they'll blend in with your natural hair.

I was wondering when you have sex without a condom
Does it feel better or more different for the girl or the guy?
I would say it's better for the guy, since it's almost always guys that are whining that condoms ruin sex.
But I wouldn't recomment not using a condom unless you've got another form of birth control, because you could get pregnant. Plus condoms can prevent you from getting an STD, so you really shouldn't go without them.

my doctor suggested a centrum..
im not sure if i should eat an extra vitamin b complex pill and stuff
and theres fish oils, etc
so how many "pills" do you take daily and what are they?
I take a Multivitamin (CVS brand spectravite), calcium+Vitamin D [osteoporosis prevention; it runs in my family] and a vitamin C [colds suck (immune defense), and its impossible to overdose so I don't have to worry]
I wouldnt take fish oil unless your doctor suggested it. They taste nasty & have... unpleasant side effects (gas and such)

on the motorola razr v3 with alltell how do you use speed dials above 9? cause i dont get how to. thanx
Well, I have verizon.
But the way I've done it on all phones is if the number you want to call is speed dial 32, for example, you press 3, then hold down the 2 for a few seconds.
I straighten my hair every night or every morning, but it still looks bad by the end of the day! Any ideas?
Make sure you have a good straightener. You don't have to go spend $300 on one, but get a quality one that doesn't suck.
The best I've ever used are:
-Remington Wet2Straight [or Wet2Style] but use them on DRY HAIR. Ottherwise you'll dammage your hair.
-any Solia straightener. You'll pay more for these but they also have better plates [less damage to your hair] and tend to last longer.
Keep in mind that humidity and/or hot weather will affect your hair, and no matter what you do to it, stick-straight hair in the middle of July in New England just isn't happening.
Anyways, use a shampoo that smoothes or moisturizes (you'll figure out for yourself what formulas work best on your own hair) and leave conditioner on for a few minutes. This helps to minimize damamge & keep your hair from drying out so much.
Use some sort of heat protecting stuff in your hair. I swear by Paul Mitchell Super Skinny Serum. It's the most amazing product I have ever bought, and makes even the most insanely frizzy hair calm down. Another good thing to use is a heat protecting spray, like Tresseme.
Straighten your hair in small sections. Hair clips help a lot, or just put some of your hair in a ponytail as you straighten the bottom layers.
Lastly, use finishing spray/hairspray to help hold the style and keep frizz away.

I really want to
[dye my hair a crazy color/date a guy who is shorter than me/wear orange kneesocks to school/ask this girl out who is "out of my league"/go trick or treating after age 12/etc.etc.etc.]
but I'm worried what other people will think of me. HELP!
There are certain times when you should listen to other people's opinions. And, there are times when you should not.
Think about it. WHY live your life caring what other people think? You won't make yourself happy that way, you'll just be constantly working to please others. If you want to dye your hair, go ahead. It's YOUR hair, and it can be dyed back eventually regardless of the color. At the same time, listen to the honest opinons of other people. If your best friend since kindergarten tells you that you look like an obese oompa loompa in solid green cocktail dresses, well, they're probably telling you the truth, and listening to them would be to your benefit. Get the idea here?
Something like dating someone "other people" can't see you with shouldn't be anything to worry over either. You like them, so who cares if they're an inch shorter than you? Same concept as before applies here too. If someone you know that you can trust tells you that a guy/girl will treat his significant other like dirt, then take their advice to heart.
So in conclusion, you shouldn't worry about what other people will think when you do something. Wear what you want, do what you want, and use common sense. Listen to your close friends and family. Why? They are the people who know you the best (besides yourself, of course!)

I love my boyfriend, and when he gets released, we are goin to get back together, but in those 2 years that he is gone is it bad if i meet someone at the time???cuz im not gonna want to be lonley the whole time and ive been crying like crazy that there taking him away. But do you think its bad that i get a new boyfriend in the meantime?
No, because if he got sent to prison for two years he's probably not the greatest person to be dating.
These next two years will be a good time to take a break (or break up completely) and see who else is out there.
My sister found out i have a boyfriend and she's 13 im 15 and im scared she'll tell my parents i just want a sister i can trust and talk to but as much as i try to she just back fires i want her to tell me when she has a boyfriend but she always thinks im gonna tell my parents which i won't i want her to trust me as much as i try to talk to her she won't listen and now she knows i havea boyfriend i can't even look at her anymore
=[
What's the question here?
Tell your parents you have a boyfriend.
They'll find out eventually anyways.
If you want you sister to trust you, stop hiding things from each other.
If you edit this and actually clarify what you're asking we can help you out better.
EDIT: Well if you want to be closer to your sister, talk to her more, and not just "hey don't tell Mom&Dad that I have a boyfriend k?"
And if you were referring to your parents never finding out, they will eventually despite what you might believe.

Okay, really stupid question here, but what exactly are dreams? And do you have one every night? Someone told me that you may not always remember the dream you had once you've woken up, but you always have one. Is that true?
Thanks.
There's so many sites, browse them all.
I have quite a fw books on the subject as well,
you could easily find them ata bookstore or the library. Dream dictionaries focus on what individual objects mean (such as dreaming of the color green) while others focus more on general ideas, such as dreaming of your childhood.
I read somewhere that a person only remembers a dream they had if they were interrupted in some way while in REM sleep. Not enough to wake up, but enough to interrupt brain activity, or something like that. But no one really knows for sure =]

Do you guys think its weird for 16 year olds to go trick-or-treating? I dont do it to steal candy from little kids, I do it because I am a kid at heart lol and its fun! PLUS ITS FREE CANDY! But some people give me weird looks when I knock on their door and say "Trick-Or-Treat!" I guess its because I look like I'm about 20. Several houses last year gave me just one piece. But I dunno if they did that to everyone or JUST me. So my question is this: Do you think there should be an age limit to trick-or-treating? Why or Why not?
Nope, I still go.
It's fun for everyone and there shouldn't be an age limit.
Plus, no one came on our street, and we would have given candy to college students if they bothered to come to my house.
If you feel really weird about it, go in a group, or take some younger kids with you (siblings, cousins, neighbors, etc)

nearly every day for the past two weeks i've had severe migraines. I'm used to getting pretty bad ones, but not for 2 weeks in a row. I know i have to go see a doctor about them, but until then anyone know why this could be happening? Does stress cause migraines? And what can i do to ease the pain a bit? because there's only so much aspirin i can get, and i'm in school so its not like i can just drop everything and go to sleep every time this happens.
15/f
I agree, see a doctor. They'll probably tell you it's just migraines (but it's best to check that there's no underlying cause)
In the meantime, try a different medication (not at the same time). With my migraines, if I take Tylenol I might as well have swallowed water. Does NOTHING. The only thing that works for me is Advil. So it might be the same thing for you.
Ice also helps. If you have flexible ice packs, like the ones you use on a sprained ankle and such, those work AMAZING. If you're in school, tru gently massaging your temples (slightly above your eyebrows, along the sides of your head) and shielding your eyes from light, if possible. Also drink water if your school allows it.
Best of luck :)

5x+4y-z= 1
2x+2y+z= 1
-x-y+z=2
or
3x+y+z=7
x+3y-2z=13
y=2x-1
or
2x+5y+2z=2
x-3y+z=2
3x+2y+5z=0
you have to do it by substitution but im so confused. :(
Ugh, I answered the wrong question.
Disregard this.
I'll edit later :)

A really sweet guy asked me out the other day. The thing is I was at a party with him (this is when we met) and he drank pure volka. I really hate drinking and I think it's a turnoff, but the thing is he apologized to the girl who threw the party and it sounded like he really meant it. He's such a nice guy, I just don't like the drinking part.
15/f hes 15/m...what should i do? i really want to say yes to going out with him, but i dont know..advice?
If he's otherwise a good guy, and you don't mind him drinking at parties, then go out with him. (you describe him as "a really sweet guy").
If his habits are going to bother you, and if you don't want a boyfriend who drinks, don't date him. Simple as that.
