Hey Everyone :) I'm Kate and a level 2 mod on here. I've had this account since July 2004, so I've been on here since I was 13! Wow ... crazy for me to think how long ago that was. I will admit I don't check in as often as I once did, but being away at college, being in a sorority, and having a job when I'm not at school is very time consuming. I still try to help out as much as possible, and if you send me a question I WILL answer it. This site helped me a LOT when I was in high school and had a lot of questions, and I'm here to help anyone who needs it :) Feel free to write in my forum or send me a question any time!

I have curly hair a little below my shoulders and I really want it to be straight. With the straightener I have right now it takes me about two hours to straighten my hair after I shower, so it's starting to prevent my from showering as much. What kinds of good cermanic hair straighteners/products are there? I did some research on an Oblivie Hair Straightening System, does anyone know anything about that?
My hair straightener is the Remingont Wet2Straight brand. I got it at wal-mart for about $30. You could get it for about $20 if you buy the little one, but I didn't. It works really well too. You can control the power. Anything below 12 is for dry hair and anything about 12 is for wet hair. It has holes to release the steam if you straighten your hair wet and as long as you use it properly it won't take long. If you have thick hair like I do then what you should do is straighten it by layers. It takes me about a half hour and my hair is shoulder length. Before I got it cut a few weeks ago it took me about an hour but that was because I wasn't using the straightener correctly. My hair dresser helped me with that. But if you use the directions and set it correctly then it shouldn't take too long.
Anyway, here's a link you can visit. It's not the same kind I have, but it's close

Here is another site that has a few different types of ceramic hair straighteners, it may help you with what you're looking for. Thought the cheapest of these is bout $40, these one's are pretty expensive.
Are you sure that you don't mean oglivie? I did a google search and they had that stupid "do you mean..." thing pop up.
Anyway, here are a few more links, I think the top one will explain the ogli... hair system

For a cell phone, does it cost money if you want to keep your provider but change your number for privacy reasons? If so, how much?
Or does this depend on the service itself. Thanks, any info is appreciated.
My parents had to change my brother's number because he signed up for stuff over the internet and recieved text messages from these people like everyday and was being charged and was unable to stop them. It was a huge mess. I'm pretty sure they weren't charged to change the number. It could have just been our provider (cingular) but most likely (especially for privacy reasons) you won't be charged. If so, it will be inexpensive.
if you really like someone and they ask you out how do you say yes to them?
Just saying "yes" or "sure" would be appropriate. Of course if you're really happy about it you could say "I'd love to". Don't emharass yourself by screaming in excitement or anything, that's too much.
Hey, as long as you don't say no they will be fine with your answer.
It said I had 1 new question in my inbox, but when I clicked on it it said I had no new unanswered questions. Is this a glitch or something? OR did the person delete their question?
That has happened plenty of times in the past. Usually it just means the person deleted their question before you had the chance to answer it.
My friend is depressed and has random panic attacks. What causes these and is their anyway to help her get over them?
I'm only answering this because it's an inbox question (sorry it too so long, I forgot this was here). I don't know the answer to this. I'm not a doctor and I don't have the right to answer this question. I'm sure if you did some google searches on panic attacks and depression (using "") then you'll find what you want. Otherwise you should ask a doctor.
I got a C- in algebra (a honors course) and my mom told me i was a screw-up. She said that I was basically a failure in life. She out me in this class (I wasn't supposed to be in honors) and I didn't quite understand the concepts... it took me a long time to understand. My mom is extremly mad and I don't know what to do but it's making me very upset.
Wow I wish I could help with this. I don't really know what exactly to say, but I can try. You're not a screwup! I took honors geometry this past year because I've always been awesome at math, and like you, I recieved a C in the course. My mom was pretty upset with the grade just because she's not used to me getting anything below a B. Honors classes are REALLY hard, especially if you don't understand the material like us with honors mathematics. Besides, our grades are technically B's since all honors classes get an extra GPA point and AP classes get an extra 2 GPA points.
You need to sit down and talk with your mom. Tell her that you tried and that it wasn't your fault you did (in her mind) poorly. Tell her that as long as you try she should be happy and that if she wants a higher letter grade then she shouldn't have put you in a class you weren't able to perform up to her standards in.
Be calm about it though. Yelling and/or crying won't get you anywhere.
Tell her that it hurt when she called you a screw up. Ask her how she would feel if someone told her that she was a failure. Do the whole guilt thing (it really works on parents ;-p... just trying to lighten the mood)
Try and make her understand that you aren't an honors student when it comes to math. Also let her know that your C (when looked at by colleges) appears as a B.
Most of all promise her (and yourself) that if you ever feel as if you're falling behind or don't undestand the concepts, you will ask for help.
Don't ever let anyone call you a screw up or a failure. That's just their insecurity speaking. Most likely your mom was either pushed by her parents/gaurdians to be some kind of perfect student, or she was a so called 'screw up' and doesn't want you turning out the same way.
Just believe in yourself. Prove her wrong this upcoming year. Strive for straight A's (or high B's). If you need extra help, don't be afraid to ask. I hate asking for advice because it makes me feel pretty dumb, but hopefully it doesn't make you feel like that.
Pretty much just tell her how badly it hurt you when she said that to you. Let her know that you tried your best and that is all that should matter to her.
Wow, it seems sooo easy to tell you to do that when in reality, it isn't that easy. At least not for me. I hate when my parents are disappointed at my grades. They have such high expectations for me and not very high expectations for my siblings, I feel as if they think I'm dumb if I get a B or C and they're proud when my siblings to that well. I should try and take some of my own advice.
Anyway, I hope all works well for you. Sorry this isn't my best advice. It's been a long day and I'm tired.
15 F Chicago and i'm always hearing disrespectful things about President Bush and how he is so insuboordinate(to sum it all up becuase i probably cannot swear on here) so basically my question is..why do so many people hate Bush? I mean he is our president and its a hard thing to do, i suppose? Just opinions guys. Thanks so much.
I think their biggest reason towards disliking him is the war. Most people think it's pointless. In my opinion, and I don't know much about it, I don't think we should have started the war, but now that we have, it's our duty to finish it and not just pull out.
I don't really have an opinion on him just because I don't really know anything about polotics, but I do agree with you that he's our president and whether we like it or not, we should respect him.
If "kids" our age were allowed to vote, things would be SO different. If young adults, who had already completely Civics and Economics, World History, and US history were allowed to vote after learning the much needed information, then they should be allowed to vote. My opinion is anyone who knows enough about polotics to have an opinion should have the priviledge of voting (oh yeah, and duhh, be a US citizen)
People don't hate Bush, they just hate the war. Another opinion of mine...
He was president through 9-11. Those attacks (though my opinion on them has started to change due to an hour long video I watched over the internet) or any attacks similar that would have happened to any other country would have been extremely hard for the man in charge to deal with something such as that, and I think Bush did a decent job handling it.
I'm not so sure questions such as this are supposed to be on this site, but I do like it. It made me think, it also makes me want to learn more about polotics and things such as this. Maybe I'll pay attention next year when I take US history.
The music code wont work for me. I copied and pasted it onto the part where it is supposed to be, and got the URL of the song from putfile, but it still doesn't work.
Any idea where i'm going wrong?
Did you inclue the url in the html, or just use the url? Did you remember to remove the "" and/or **. You can't have any of that.
Why not just go to myspace music, look up certain artists and add the song that you like. I understand that sometimes the song you want isn't available, and it totally sucks, been there, done that. Just find a different song.
Or maybe the code you have is incorrect and whoever you got it from (person or site) doesn't know what their doing or typed it incorrectly, it's easy to make types. (did you try more than once to make sure you didn't make a typo?)
Also if there were specific instructions as to where you needed to put the link, did you follow them?
If you did all that then I stick with my suggestion of using myspace music. It's easier even though not all the songs in the world are available.
im going away soon for vacation and i never been on a plane before this will be my first time. i dont know what to expect here are some questions i would like to get answered
should i be scared
alot of people say to chew gum should i?
willl i get sick?
what should i do to keep busy?
I've flown a kajillion times (and yes I know that's not a real number)
1. No, there isn't anything to be scared about. Don't get yourself all worked up, if you get too nervous then you start to focus too much on the little things and it scares you even more. Just try to relax
2. You chew gum when you're taking off and landing. Want to know why? To pop your ears. I don't know how to describe it, but when you get to a really high elevation something occurs that makes your ears feel funny, chewing gum helps stop the feeling and it unpops your ears.
3. Probably not. I've never gotten sick on an airplane. They have sick bags just incase, little white bags. If you don't worry and just relax then you should be fine. If you get motion sickness in cars/trains/buses, etc. then you may.
4. Read a book/magazine (unless it makes you feel queasy) after a little bit they allow you to use electronics, so bring a CD player/mp3/ipod, bring a coloring book. I know it sounds immature but if you fixate on coloring then it will keep your mind off of flying. Also, when they offer you a drink, take slow sips. I'm not sure why, but that always disitracted me. If you're flying early in the morning or late at night, sleep. They usually will supply pillows/blankets. But just incase, bring a travel pillow. Every half an hour or so (while the fasten seat belt sign is OFF) walk down the aisle of the plain unless it means climing over people or something. If you can, get a window seat so you can watch the clouds go by, it's a beautiful view. If it's raining though, I suggest either not sitting near the window or keeping the shade down, it may make things seem scarier though they will most likely be fine. Remember, this piolet has flown before, probably a lot, everything will be fine.
Have fun on your vacation! The more you worry, the scarier the flight will be. Stay cool, keep your mind off the plane and think about what you will be doing on vacation.
How much alcohol is too much? How do you know if you have been drinking too much (at one time) and if you are at serious risk of causing harm to yourself? And, what does vodka normally get mixed with?
If you are under 21, any alcohol is too much. If you are of the legal drinking age, then as long as you don't past .08 you're in okay condition. I wouldn't drink too much because in can become an addiction and it can become dangerous. I would suggest (only if legally allowed) to drink just a glass or two of wine, one or two margaritas, one or two beers, something small to start with. If you're not used to drinking and you drink a large quantity, you could get sick.
And when it comes to mixing drinks, mix drinks by colored. Don't mix two alcoholic drinks that are two colors. Vodka is mixed with many things. Redbull, orange juice is a usual, everclear, some others.
But again, if you are under the age of 21 (and you live in the USA) then you are legally not allowed to drink ANY alcohol, it will mess up your life, especially if you don't drink responsibly(whether 21 or not)- trust me on that one.
I'm the only girl and oldest of three, younger brothers. I have a good life... until my parents come in. My mom is always on my case for being an A-B student because she herself was a straight A student. I am very sporty but my parents always expect more. My dad thinks I should be more like my younger brother, who is very talented in sports. He doesn't understand that I'm not the best player, and my mom that I can't go those grades she wants me to get. I'm just not sure what to do or say to them anymore...
I'd love to help you but unfortunately I'm in somewhat of the same situation and I'm still trying to figure out how to get my parents to get off my case.
My mom parents were totally MAD when I came home with a low B as a grade (for an honors class might I add which means that I get an extra gpa point and technically 7 extra points added to my grade would be the same as the grade of a regular student) My mom was upset with a 92 in spanish (1pt away from an A) and we went through about three teachers because they kept quitting. It's hard to keep up grades when you don't have anyone teaching you (or at least anyone decent).
So yeah, I'd LOVE to help you out, but I'm in a situation kind of like yours. But hey, if you solve your problem, drop me a line and let me know how you did it.
I do suggest trying to talk to them. I've tried again and again to talk to mine, they just don't know how to listen. I'll try to talk to my mom and she'll completely ignore me. I'll call her name about 4 times before she says WHAT! and then when I try and talk she just tunes me out again.
Oh, and when I was "complaining" earlier, it's not that bad trying to be an A student, but when your mom gets mad at you for making a A- on the same exact test that your sister makes a B- or C on (or that your brother makes a D on, then it's really crazy, my parents are pissed if I bring home a B- on a report card but jubilant if my brother passes the 8th grade. It's insane and unfair.
Parents pretty much suck, we all have to learn to deal. Try talking, if that doesn't work and something else does, let me know!
Sorry I couldn't and didn't help, I didn't want this question to just sit in my inbox though.
someone said to my friend i bet your wet right now and she doesnt know what that means and neither do i. were both 13/f. thankss in advance.
I knew the answer, but after typing it, well it just felt strange to have that kind of answer on my column. So here's a link that will let you know what you asked.

Well I'm going swimming tomorrow. Today I had my period for the first time and I tried a tampon. It was really hard to get out. I tried pulling it out in different directions and I tried like half a box of tampons and I'm pretty sure it's in correctly. The string almost broke when i tried to pull it out it hurts. My parents wont let me get in the water without a tampon and i cant sneak in without one because they check to make sure im not lying. Oh and ive tried the lowest absorbensy and lubricant stuff still doesnt help. Please help!
Is it only hard to get out? That could be because you're practicing with it so it's not staying it as long as it normally would. Normally it's absorbing blood while inside of you wich makes it less dry and much more lubricated. That is what helps it slide out. The lubrication from the blood it absorbs. If it isn't absorbing any blood then it's completely dry and rubs up against you when you're pulling it out which causes the discomfort. But remember, never use a tampon more than 6-8 hours (I go for closer to 6) because of Toxic Shock Syndrome. It's rare, but serious.
Anyway, it's most likely just the lack of blood on the tampon.
I am in the US.
If I receive a call from overseas on my
cell phone (Cingular), is it free? or am
I charged for the call?
It depends on your plan. I also have cingular and I am able to call people from other states no cost because I have long distance. I've never tried to call someone overseas though. You probably can if you at least have long distance. If you have LD and roaming then you chances of being charged are slim to none. If I were you I would call my service provider (cingular) and ask them just to be on the safe side. Normally it's the person doing the calling that is being charged. I would still call cingular though, better safe than sorry.
At school today, we were discussing the French Revolution in History class. The teacher was talking about how back then 97 % of French people were Catholic and they stuck firmly to tradition. We then started contrasting that to these times.
Then out of the blue he asked how many people believed in a Christian God. Not one person put their hand up. I didn't at first because I was embarassed, but then I did. I was the only one.
Later I was thinking.. I'm not sure it was right for my teacher to ask this. Is there any sets of rules on this type of thing? Like are teachers not meant to discuss issues like religion, politics, etc? I'm usually pretty closed-up about this kind of thing.
It really bothers me when I think about it, because I don't see why it was necessary. I graduate high school in a few months and was thinking of saying something to him at the end of the year. So, can someone let me know their opinion on this? Was it wrong for him to ask this?
Thanks.
They are allowed to mention religion (we studied it for about a month in one of my history classes). They just are not allowed to tell you what is right and wrong. Stuff like that. Once they start telling you what in religion is correct and what is wrong and what you SHOULD believe and what not to believe, that is when you worry about it. Nobody is allowed to tell you what to believe, not teachers, not friends, not neighbors, not family, ONLY YOU can decided what you want to believe. Anyone who tries to force a religion upon you is out of line.
We wouldn't get anywhere in history without studying different religions. I'm not sure I saw the point of asking your teacher who out there were of the Christian faith, but I also didn't get the lesson so I don't have the entire senario. You're just thinking way too much about it. If anything you should be proud of yourself for raising your hand. A lot of people don't like to announce their religion which is sad because in a way, they're denying it. You should never deny something you believe in.
But now I feel as if I'm going too far with my answer. Anyway, just don't worry about it. What your teacher said wasn't out of line.
ok so here is a conversation i had with this guy that i like and i can't figure what exactly he meant in his last text message so i'm gonna type the whole conversation and i want you to tell me wat you think he means. I'll rate 5's to everyone that gives me an opinion. O and my name is *Debbie* and his is *Nathan* And this conversation was at 11:30 last night.
Nathan---how about we give what we both want a chance and see how good we really are together. hit me back adn let me know what you think you might like.
Debbie---in shock didn't reply for a minute
Nathan---are you going to text back anytime soon i would really like to know what you think before i go to sleep, i guess i could just call you.
Debbie---Well depends on what you really want.
Nathan---You know what i really want what is it you want.
Debbie---No i don't think i know what you want.
Nathan---I want you and you do know that what do you want, I wouldn't mind there being an US but that would be up to you. but what do YOU want.????
Debbie---(i sent this one to the wrong place)I want there to be an us to.
Nathan---are you there can i get a response please, just leaving me hangin ain't cool you know. I will call you in the morning but i want you to text me.
Debbie---I sent it to your phone instead of your screenname but i want to be with you.
ok this is where i get confused.
Nathan---i never got it but *that's good* i'll call you later ok.
Are we dating? What does *that's good* mean?
Thanks signed
really confused
Normally "that's good" means all right, or that's cool. Kind of a "I'm down with that" type of thing. Here it could mean he wants to date you too but you are or are not dating. Just straight out ask him. "Are we dating". If he asks "what do you think" or something along those lines just tell him "I don't know, why else would I ask you"...
Hope this helps
so I was listening this song and I love it so much, but I don't know the title, or the band..
here are some lines I thought I heard in the song:
Lyrics there has to be a better way to break this spell
…
If the fire burns out will it ever light up again
…
That I deny
…
I call this a better way
if you know this,
thank you!! I'll rate you
This may or may not be correct, but this is what I came up with
CHASING VICTORY LYRICS
"Unrequited Love"
So write it down in lover's blood.
There's gotta be a better way to break this spell.
Send out a search party.
Have you forgot how to love, how to die?
I see the crosses behind your eyes.
When will the fire burn out?
When will it burn out?
Is it after we've covered our tracks?
I'm not going to stay to find out.
He never asked for much.
If the fire burns out will it ever light up again?
Will it ever light up?
And it's been so long since I've seen your eyes this cold.
When did you let them step in?
When did you let them take control?
So sound the alarm.
There's gotta be a better way to break this spell.
Tell the whole world that I left without his love
At the chiming of the bells.
I've been dreaming of elaborate schemes.
Though the love was good for a while,
It's been much easier to leave.
I've got a new life now.
This couldn't have come at a worse time!
I guess you had to find out about this
Unrequited love that I deny.
Why do you attempt on making countless efforts?
(He never asked for much. If the fire goes out...)
When will you give up on this?
(Will it ever light up again? Will it ever light up?)
Why do you attempt on making countless efforts?
(And it's been so long since I've seen your eyes this cold.)
When will you give up on this?
(When did you let them step in? When did you let them take control?)
You say you fell out of love?
You say you fell out of love?
You say you fell out of love?
Well, I call this abandonment!
There's gotta be a better way.
That I deny, I deny.
I call this abandonment.
I call this abandonment.
I call this abandonment!
idk if this kid made up this word.. but he was talking to me and he was like "hey gitch" does anyone have any idea wat a "gitch" is?
http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=gitch
There are 7 different ways you can use that word. I like the 7th the best just become it comes from a movie so it has an origin.
I don't want this to be long or panic-y, but I need some advice. My friend and I are 13. There is a 17-year old across the street who is 17 and a juvi. My parents think he is 18, but really isn't. We played basketball with let's call him C, and we got his number. We hung out with him and we lied about out ages and we said we were 15 and 16. We lied about where we go to school and everything, and now we're hanging out with him. I've been lying to my parents about where we going and everything, but here is the main problem. I'm going into 8th grade this fall, and getting on the bus (right in front of my house!) in the morning is no big, but when the bus drops us off, it's 3:50pm. Big problem, because C smokes, and has to go outside and smokes. What if he sees us? I really hate to lie to everyone around me, and the lies keep getting bigger. Should I be honest with C? My friend and I have been flirting big time with him, and that will ruin out friendship. And, the other problem, even though C is moving is September, I'll have started school, and his brothers go to my new school! What should I do as an overall result? Thanks so much!
He's going to find out the truth either way. Especially if his brothers will be going to the same school as you and if he'll be outside smoking when you get off the bus.
I won't lecture you on how lying is bad because you're going to learn that lesson through this experience. Once you start one lie, they just keep growing and growing. Anyway, all lies come out eventually so if you were being lied to about something like this, what would you feel after finding out? Who would you rather find out from, the lier or your siblings or just by seeing it happen? I would rather find out from the one who is lying to me. Anyway, just tell him straight out. Tell him you need to talk to him and that he is probably going to be upset with you but that you don't want to lie to him any longer. Then just kind of blurt it out and wait for his reaction. If he's mad, understand. Don't tell him he's overreacting or anything like that. Give him a little time if he's upset in anyway, don't bug him and continuously try to get him to forgive you or anything. He may not be upset with you, he may just shrug it off. You never know. Expect the worst and hope for the best.
If you want some tips on what to say, drop me a message to my inbox with some details and I can try to help you think of something.

does anyone know where to get camis that are kinda long that covers your whole stomach? and i also want the very cheap ones.. like i dont want a cami for 10$ .. thanks
Kohls will probably have what you're looking for. If you get them on sale then you can get them under &10... I've always considered $10 cheap though. But Kohls has a sale like EVERY weekend so you'll probably find what you're looking for. Otherwise you can try Goodies and the clearance rack at American Eagle (their clearance rack is usually cheap). Umm if want want cheap but cute, Plato's Closet is like a goodwill but of brand name things. I'm not the type of person who wears other people's close (unless they're my friends/family) but you may be.
Need anything else? Feel free to ask.
