Parents Expectations

Question Posted Sunday June 18 2006, 8:21 pm

I'm the only girl and oldest of three, younger brothers. I have a good life... until my parents come in. My mom is always on my case for being an A-B student because she herself was a straight A student. I am very sporty but my parents always expect more. My dad thinks I should be more like my younger brother, who is very talented in sports. He doesn't understand that I'm not the best player, and my mom that I can't go those grades she wants me to get. I'm just not sure what to do or say to them anymore...

I'd love to help you but unfortunately I'm in somewhat of the same situation and I'm still trying to figure out how to get my parents to get off my case.

My mom parents were totally MAD when I came home with a low B as a grade (for an honors class might I add which means that I get an extra gpa point and technically 7 extra points added to my grade would be the same as the grade of a regular student) My mom was upset with a 92 in spanish (1pt away from an A) and we went through about three teachers because they kept quitting. It's hard to keep up grades when you don't have anyone teaching you (or at least anyone decent).

So yeah, I'd LOVE to help you out, but I'm in a situation kind of like yours. But hey, if you solve your problem, drop me a line and let me know how you did it.

I do suggest trying to talk to them. I've tried again and again to talk to mine, they just don't know how to listen. I'll try to talk to my mom and she'll completely ignore me. I'll call her name about 4 times before she says WHAT! and then when I try and talk she just tunes me out again.

Oh, and when I was "complaining" earlier, it's not that bad trying to be an A student, but when your mom gets mad at you for making a A- on the same exact test that your sister makes a B- or C on (or that your brother makes a D on, then it's really crazy, my parents are pissed if I bring home a B- on a report card but jubilant if my brother passes the 8th grade. It's insane and unfair.

Parents pretty much suck, we all have to learn to deal. Try talking, if that doesn't work and something else does, let me know!

Sorry I couldn't and didn't help, I didn't want this question to just sit in my inbox though.
