Hello,
I am currently working as a CAD intern and I am wondering how long they will be keeping me at the company. At first I was hired during the summer time for an internship and those usually last a couple of weeks to months, but now it seems like I am working part-time since they ask for my school schedule. How do I ask how long I will be working here without being too upfront or rude? I would like to know in case they are planning on letting me go after a couple more months, so that I am prepared to find another internship.
Thanks.
I would simply be up front and ask a supervisor or manager about your future with the company. That way, they know you are serious and interested in staying. Waiting for them to approach you would make it seem like you don't care about whether or not you have a future working for them. You're not just going to get hired because you're good at the job, you also need to show them that you want to be there.

I wanted to make some brownies so I bought the box mix from the store. It calls for a 1/2 cup of regular vegetable oil, 2 eggs, and 1/4 cup of water. I thought of taking coconut oil and warming it up a little (as it's sort-of solidified now but when it's warmed up it's very, well, oily) and using it instead of vegetable oil. Is that acceptable or does it ruin the recipe on the box mix of brownies?
It would make the brownies taste like coconut brownies. If you would like that sort of thing, then go ahead. You never know if you don't try.

last week, I found this stray kitten. I immediately fell in love with him. we took him home, and decided to give him to my best friend. the kitten loved my best friend, and adapted to his room quickly. unfortunately, they suddenly decided they can't keep him anymore. so the kitten is back at my house. my mother wants to give him away to her friend - but it was me who rescued him, and who lives in my room. nobody is his official owner, there are no papers signed, but I really need ownership over this cat - I have no idea how to do that though, or even if you can. I need ownership so he can be mine, and my mother can't just give him away to whoever she wants. I turn 15 in a few weeks. thanks.
I think your best bet would be to take charge of everything involved with the kitten.
That means paying for food, vet visits with shots, spay/neuter, training, litter box cleaning, buying litter, paying for toys, paying for flea and tick control, vacuuming hair, cleaning up any messes that might occur, and all of the other things involved with taking care of a cat.
Even if the cat is staying in your room, and even if you do all of this stuff, it will still affect your mom. But, if you do all of this stuff, then she might be more inclined to let you keep the cat.
If you have ownership over the animal, she can still get rid of it, since she basically has ownership over you and all of the stuff that you own.

I went to my OB today because I found out that I was pregnant last week at my 6 week check up (I have a 2 month old at home and another child under 1 year). My doctor asked me today why I refused birth control, although I already told them that birth control is against my religion. I repeated myself today and felt odd since I KNOW I had already explained this.
The doctor then nodded her head and said, "Well, that is just silly," in a very demeaning tone of voice. I was so offended I told her, "My faith is no laughing matter." I was just very upset and I still am. I need a doctor that will take me seriously.
I am not a government case, I am not an unmarried mother, and I am not on food rations or food stamps. If I want to have all of the children that God allows me to be blessed with then I don't understand the issue.
I am a mother and wife. I am also the daughter of very wealthy philanthropists who have provided myself, my husband, and our future children with the means to take care of our needs.
Why am I being judged when I can take care of any children I have, and why am I being judged when I want to have 15+ children? Should I switch to a doctor that will not pressure me to go against my beliefs?
You doctor is providing a service to you, and she is being payed a lot of money by you or your insurance for this service. If she makes you uncomfortable in any way, then you should go to a better doctor. I also think that she should know why you are switching. Maybe that will help her think before she speaks to her future patients.

Can you tell me the name of the medical procedure where they put the camera down your throat and you are awake, to view the bile duct whenever you have had a stone removed and bleeding occurs needing a blood transfusion? (It's not the ERCP when you are heavily sedated)
The medical procedure of actually putting a camera down your throat is called Endoscopy. This is used for many things. An endoscope is a camera used to pass through the mouth to evaluate the gastrointestinal tract, including the esophagus, stomach, bile ducts, etc.

Does anyone have a really good pizza crust recipe that they can share? I want to try making my own pizza but I haven't ever done that before. I know you can buy jarred sauce to put on the crust so that can make things a little easier, I'm sure. Personal recipes that you know work well only please...
I don't know any recipes, but I usually use the frozen pizza crust that you can buy at Walmart. They are usually at your local grocery store also. Usually found by the deli. They are really good, plus really cheap, usually $1-2.

This is a really weird question, but...
My cat is a little over a year old, and I adopted her at 11 weeks. She's been litter-trained, and has never missed, never had a problem with it. I clean her litter box every day, and nothing has changed.
I woke up this morning to the sound of her scratching at something, and walked into my bathroom to find a few little...presents...in my tub. I cleaned it up, put them in the toilet, and showed her.
This sounds odd, but she's really, really smart. I can only assume she figured out that the bathroom is where I do my business and she tried to do the same thing.
Does anyone have any experience potty-training cats? Or any ideas?
Thanks!
Honestly, this most likely isn't a potty training question. If you cat is a little over a year old and just suddenly went to the bathroom outside the litter box, then it is most likely a stress related thing, or a health issue.
Has there been any changes to her life at all? Is there a new baby in the house, a new animal, or did someone leave the house recently? Did you move? Did furniture get moved around? It could even be a new animal (most likely cat) around the neighborhood that is stressing her out. If any of this has happened, then it could be that she is stressed.
Or it could be a health issue. One reason that cats stop using their litter box is because of some kind of urinary or bowel issue with their health. She could have a bladder infection, or stones in her bladder. If it hurts to pee, then she could associate it with the litter box, and then she would avoid the litter box, thinking that the litter box had something to do with the pain. Most often, they will choose the bathtub or sink. Does she cry when she uses the box? Have you noticed any blood in her urine? Does she seem to strain? If so then it could be a health issue.
Either way, I would bring her to your veterinarian, or at least call them to see what they think.
You should also feed her canned food. Cat's don't normally drink a lot of water, and this can sometimes make them predisposed to urinary or kidney disease. Feeding them canned food will help them get plenty of water in their system, helping to flush out their kidneys and bladder.
Edit: You asked for advice from someone who has experience with this sort of thing. I do have experience with this sort of thing. I didn't say that you don't know how to care for your cat, I'm just pointing out, since I work in Veterinary Medicine, that there are changes that your cat goes through that owners who aren't in the veterinary field don't notice.

About a year ago, my family and i got a dog(a pug) in Colombia. We got him at 2 months of age. When it was time for us to leave, we realized that we couldn't take him on the plane or he would die, we had to wait until he was at least 4 months. So we went home without him, leaving Rasin (thats his name home) with our grandmother and trusted friend. They sent him over again when he was 6 months of age. He's a very good dog, hes currently a year and a month old. But although hes outgrown his puppy stage, he still bites his dog house as if hes still teething like a puppy. He is deathly scared of my mother and her "newspaper". I dont know whats wrong with him but im beginnng to worry. Please help my helpless pug! I cant do anyhting since i'm so young and my mother hardly lets me spaek my mind. Im as helpless as he is.
13/f
Dog's don't bite because they are teething. That's what dogs do, they chew on things. They will chew on things that they aren't supposed to chew on if they are not properly trained. They will chew if they are bored, scared, anxious, or because they just simply like to. If you don't want him to chew on his dog house, then you need to give him something that he can chew on, like dog toys.
Your mother and her "newspaper" won't usually effectively help to train him. It will definitely make Rasin fear the newspaper, but it won't teach him that he's not supposed to chew on his dog house. A more effective way to train him would be to use positive reinforcements, like giving him a treat when he chews on his toys instead of his dog house.
I would suggest saving your money for some dog training books that use positive reinforcement techniques, or saving your money for some dog classes that use positive reinforcement techniques.

We have a 9 week old Maine Coon kitten. He seems healthy (eating well, playful, etc.) but should I take him to a vet just for a check up? Are there any shots that he needs? Are there any good websites to find this kind of information on for future reference?
Most breeders (I'm assuming since he's a purebred that he came from a breeder) will give certain vaccines or dewormers in the first 6 to 8 weeks. At the Vet clinic that I work at, we recommend vaccines at 6 weeks, then 8 weeks, and 12 weeks. If they didn't get 6 week vaccines, then they should get vaccines at 8weeks, then 12 and 16 weeks.
Here's a quick schedule. Bring him in now, and if he hasn't had vaccines before, then he should get a distemper vaccine. He should also get a feline Leukemia vaccine if he will be going outside at all. At this visit he should also be dewormed (all kittens and puppies are born with worms, don't let anyone tell you otherwise).
His next visit should be in 3 to 4 weeks. At this time he will be older than 12 weeks and will be old enough to have his rabies vaccine. He should get his rabies vaccine, and a booster of both his distemper and feline leukemia (if you decide on that). He should also be dewormed again (worms will shed every 2 weeks or so, so he'll have more to get rid of).
Now, the next part is up to what your veterinarian recommends. He should be ok with just the one booster of distemper and leukemia, but some vet's might recommend two boosters.
Otherwise, his next visit should be his castration (neutering). This should be done anytime after 16 weeks (4 months). The sooner the better it is for him and you, since he wont have time to learn any male bad behavior like marking his territory. This can be scheduled with his last set of vaccines, but some vet's opt to wait a couple of weeks after to cut back on risk of vaccine reaction. I've heard some say that it will slow healing time if they get the vaccine the same day as having a surgery, but really, feline castrations are so minor of a surgery it really should affect him much.
At his 1 year visit, he will most likely have a distemper vaccine, feline leukemia (if you opted for that) and a rabies vaccine. We use the 1 year rabies, because it's much safer than the 3 year. We use a 3 year distemper vaccine, but for the first year we like to booster it in 1 year, after that it can be done every 3 years. And, for the leukemia vaccine, that it a 1 year vaccine.
Does that answer your question? Sorry, I don't know of any websites, but you could try to go to the website of your veterinarian and see if they have any info on their specific vaccine protocol.

this is a VERY long story, but im gonna try to lay this out as short as possible and please, im desperate here, you have NO clue what i've been through these past few months, and i need all the help i can get..
last year i met a REALLY sensative guy. he was 16, about to be 17, and i was 14.. he was soooo shy, hes VERY insecure. when we first started dating, all he said to me was how i saved him and pulled him out of his misery because he has had no luck with relationships and was treated like shit by girls his whole life. hes not even that cute and popular, and i have a waaay higher social status in my grade/ school then he does in his grade.. but ive been known to have wierd taste and i can look beyond looks and things like that very easily. i think when we first started dating him i was just excited over the fact that he had a car and he was a junior and i was only a freshmen.. but i actually did end up falling in love with him. and he was COMPLETELY in love with me. we lost our virginities to eachother and ill tell you, im smart, and not at all a bit naiive.. i knew this kid loved me. & we did NOT have a sex based relationship whatsoever.. we became eachothers best friends. both of us lost all of our other friends because we were only with eachother 24-7. he called my mom 'mom' and i did the same with his mom.. we were incredibly close.. and sense he was older, i felt so comftorbal and secure with him, and i went to him with all my problems, and he would help me.. ive been suffering from depression for years and me and my mother never had a good relationship, and my father left me, and i was molested as a baby.. but when i was with him, he made me feel so comftorbal. we told eachother EVERYTHING. and i was postive he was there to stay. he promised me forever every single day. we dated for a year. i messed it up, biggest mistake of my entire life.. he started getting very annoying and up my ass. you know when youre in a bad mood and you just want to be left alone? well he would never leave me alone. he'd be like 'its okay babe i love you' bla bla. all mushy, when i just want to be mad!. i tried talking to him about this many times and all he could say was im sorry i just love you soooo much i cant help it.. all my friends called him whipped cream and everything.. it was BAD. but anyways, one night i was out with my friends the day before a cheer competition, and my ex was there.. and somewhere along the lines, we kissed.. my boyfriends friend was there and told him that if i didnt tell him, he was going to.. i knew he wasnt going to break up with me or anything.. so i told him.. but the thing is.. i think i was looking for a fight with him because our relationship was so boring. when i told him, it pissed me off how he was crying instead of being mad, yelling at me. so i started saying things to make him mad.. i said TERRIBLE things. like i was gonna keep cheating on him because he basically lets me, and how i know i take advantage of him because he trusts me so much but i shouldnt.. and he was like well maybe i have to break up with you then.. and he was like i really dont want to. and i was like fine just do it idont care! yelling at him and stuff.. and then he did. i was thinking we would get back together in a couple weeks.. so after we broke up, we still talked because we obv. still loved eachother and everything. we acted like we were going out, and we even 'hooked up' a few times.. but when he asked me back out, i kept saying no, i wasnt ready.. because the relationship was SOOO akward after we broke up.. he was acting so different. and i knew why. it was because i broke his heart. and i did, bad. so one day after we hooked up, my friend told me that her brother saw my 'boyfriend, x-boyfriend, whatever u wanna call him' at a store.. and he was saying how he was done with me and he was trying to get with this new girl 'leesh'.. i was FURIOUS. i called him up screaming at him asking for all my stuff back and it was over for good and everything. but really, i wanted an appology from him, not my stuff back. btw, i was very remorsful for cheating on him and saying what i said to him, i mustve appologized a million times.. but he didnt say anything, he justgave me all my stuff back and acted like it was nothing.. and then i kept trying to get him back, but he kept rejecting me. i was litterally down on my knees for this kid. until one day i found out he had a girlfriend. not just some girl.. the girl who dates ALL the boys that i date after me.. but thats a whole nother story.. anyways, i was devistated. i couldnt eat, i couldnt talk, i couldnt sleep, i couldnt go to school,, nothing. all i did was cry and cry and cry and cry. i tried talking to him seeing if we could be friends and stuff, but he hates me now. if i send him one text, he shuts his phone off. he goes all different ways in the halls so i dont have to see him in school, he wont even look my way. he saw me practically drown in my own tears and he didnt even care. i wrote him long long letters, i tried everything i could just to be able to talk to him when i need to, so i wouldnt be so hurt about the situation.. now, i have two weeks left of school and im failing 4 classes.. and im an honors student. i DONT fail. its not me. and im grounded because of it, so i cant even go out and try to forget it. its been sense thhe end of february... and still, all i can think about is killing myself.. people say they are heart broken.. but this gives heart broken a new definition. there is litterally a hole in my chest. and i keep getting maaaassive anxiety attacks in class, and i do go to counceling wich is sort of helpful but we mostly talk about my parents.. three days ago, she broke up with him. and he was very upset from what i heard.. he hasnt tried talking to me or anything but i dont know what to do, i want to talk to him but he'll just ignore me.. i love this kid and care about him with my life. today i thought i was going to DIE. it was the last day of school for the seniors. the last time ill EVER see him again. the last time ill ever get to look for him i the halls so i can walk by him.. that was the only time i ever got to see him, and today was my last day. and when i walked by him for the very last time of my life today, he didnt even look at me. it was so painful. he couldnt even have the heart to say bye to me considering im his first love and helll never see me again. i havent been able to stop crying sense i last saw him. i dont even know what to do with my life any more. someone PLEEEEEASE tell me what to do to get him back. ANNYTHING. I AM DESPERATE FOR HELP. we had such a good relationship till i cheated and we Never ever had one fight. but you dont even understand. this kid wouldnt even look at any other girls, deleted all the girls in his phone book, couldnt go an hour without texting me just saying he loved me, couldnt go a day withouth seeing me, brought me flowers randomly, did EVERYTHING for me. how can you love someone so much and go through everything we've been through together, and then just completely shut them out of your life?
When I was younger (17 or so) I was dating a guy. We were best friends, did everything together, never fought, and were completely happy. Then he did what you did. He got bored. He cheated on me. When I finally did find out, I was stupid and took him back. And he did it again, and again...
You can never go back to that time when you were completely happy. You can have absolutely no idea how painful it is to have someone that you love cheat on you. And then to have them basically laugh in your face when you get upset and cry instead of getting angry they way that they want you to.
He will never be able to be with you without thinking about you cheating on him. Even if he ignores his feelings, there will always be a fear. He'll be jealous, angry, always alert when your near other guys, etc. And this will make you and him miserable.
I'm sorry, I know you made a mistake and it's human, but I think that your mistake ended the relationship with this guy for good. Do you really want him to be miserable if he is with you and is constantly reminded of the heartbreak you gave him when you cheated. If you really love him, then you wouldn't want him to go through that.

I will be going college this fall and I'm really nervous about it. Obviously I am going to be a college freshman. I've heard so many things about college though that makes me really uneasy. I want to go into college prepared, of course.
So, what can I expect at college? I guess it must be a lot different than high school but in what ways? Do I need to do or bring anything special to college?
Any info please!!!!
Things to bring: A microwave, small fridge, TV, and a computer. You might also want to consider a coffee pot, if you drink coffee. Plus you should have plenty to do in your off time, like any hobbies, books, games, etc.
I really don't think there was much difference between high school and college. You going to be dealing with the same immature crowd. By immature, I mean at the same maturity level as yourself. If your living in the dorms, it's like moving out of your parents house, and now only having to listen to the RA's. They usually act a lot like parents, in the sense that they make you listen to the rules of the dorm. They just wont force you to wake up in the morning when you have a hangover and get to class. That's up to you.
And I do encourage you to actually go to class and do your homework. You need to keep tract of the fact that your paying A LOT of money (or your parents are, or in the case of a grant, the taxpayers are paying for it, and with a scholarship, you usually have to keep certain grades) But anyway, a LOT of money is being spent. You might not need to make the payment right now, but believe me, you'll understand soon enough, and if you didn't pay attention then you'll regret it.
Anyway... you'll be faced with a lot of the same things that you faced in high school. There's plenty of peer pressure, and in my case it was slightly easier to get ahold of alcohol, but there's also usually plenty of ways to stay away from it. Like clubs and activities. And, believe it or not, there are people who go to college and actually go there to study, and not to get drunk at every opportunity. Hopefully you get a good roommate (if you in the dorms). If not you might be able to change.

Does anyone have a really good cookie recipe they've made? I know I can google it but I'd rather made something I know is good. More than one recipe is good, too.
It's for my bf, I've made him chocolate chip, cinnamon chocolate chip, and oatmeal raisin in the past.
Take a normal chocolate chip recipe and add a bag of Toffee bits and 1/2 to 1 bag of coconut flakes.
I have another recipe that starts with a while or yellow cake mix. Ingredients: I box of cake mix(18.5oz, 1 8oz pkg cream cheese, 1/4 cup margarine or butter, 1 egg, 1/4 tsp vanilla. Mix and bake @ 375 for 8 to 10 minutes. These are super easy and pretty good.
Then there's Chocolate Muddies. These are actually kind of tricky to get right.
Ingredients: 1 3oz pkg cream cheese softened, 1/4 cup margarine or butter softened, 1 cup granulated sugar, 1 cup packed brown sugar, 2 tsp vanilla, 1/8 tsp almond extract, 2 large eggs, 2/3 cup chocolate fudge ice cream topping, 2 cups flour, 1/2 cup baking cocoa, 1 tsp baking soda, 1 tsp salt, 1 cup vanilla milk chip (or white chocolate), 1 cup milk chocolate chips, 1 cup bittersweet chocolate, coarsely chopped.
Beat cream cheese and margaine in large bowl until fluffy. Add sugars, vanilla, almond extract, eggs and ice cream topping. Beat until fluffy.
Mix flour, cocoa, baking soda, and salt. Stir into wet mixture. Stir in remaining ingredients (chips).
Bake on a well oiled cookie sheet (I use shortening) and bake @ 350 for 13-15 minutes until edges are just set. Centers will still be very soft.
These are best eaten fresh, and are very hard to store as they stick together and loose the crispy edge quickly. And yes, they are extremely unhealthy but well worth it at least once. It took me a couple of times to get the cooking time right, so just keep checking them, it might only take 5 to 8 minutes in the oven, or it might take longer than 15 minutes. It also depends on how humid it out when your baking them.

I am a 20 year old History undergraduate and I feel like my life is falling apart. The past two months have been very difficult from being filled with my stupidity. I found out I was pregnant mid-March and had an abortion two weeks ago and the guilt is eating me up. I keep reliving the experience in my dreams, or, worse, I dream that I am still pregnant and wake up hopelessly disappointed (I am regretting this decision so much). I was supposed to take a pregnancy test on Friday to confirm that I am no longer pregnant and I can't bring myself to do it because I'm scared of seeing the negative result. My boyfriend resents me heavily for the choice and so refuses to talk about it with me, but I completely understand I can't say I would react any differently now. My parents were so strongly for the abortion that I don't want to tell them how I'm feeling now that it's been done.
I initially felt I made the right choice: I'm too young; I have no family who could help me because my only relatives (my parents) moved (as already planned) to Saudi Arabia a week after my abortion; I have no money; and my boyfriend is leaving to study in California at the end of this semester. Now, though, I feel it was a selfish thing to do. I took another life for my convince, really, when I could have just given the baby up if I couldn't actually care for it. I know people who had children younger than I am now and who coped marvelously. I murdered and it is haunting me.
Not only this, but around the time I discovered I was pregnant, I had a flare up of Ulcerative Colitis (I was diagnosed age 16 and had been previously without symptoms for 2 years). The illness greatly affects my general feeling of well-being and I am too embarrassed to tell my friends so they just don't understand. I feel entirely alone and isolated with this entire thing, especially now that I have two "secrets" to hide from my friends (I am so embarrassed for having the abortion). I'm in a total rut that I can't seem to drag myself out of. I have a history of self-harm and I refuse to resort to that but it's getting so much harder to resist. I feel like I have no one to talk to who can understand that what I did was horrible and not hate me for it.
I have exams starting tomorrow that, as a result of the events of the past few weeks, I am ill prepared for and I just don't know how to cope with any of this. I want to stay in bed forever and never get up. I wish it never happened. Please, please help me...
You might not like my answer, because this is a very controversial and touchy subject.
First, I have no idea what your going through. I know it must be hard to live with the regret that you have.
Second...Now, this is the advice you might not like, but I would advise you to see a religious counselor. Whether your catholic, baptist, jewish, another religion, or even agnostic, you should be able to talk to someone about your worries. You might be ashamed to talk to your friends or family about this, but you might be able to talk to a religious leader about what your going through.
I don't believe that you deserve to be in as much pain as you are, especially since you have as much remorse as you plainly seem to.
I'm not saying that talking to someone about it will suddenly make everything better, or acceptable to you, but it couldn't hurt. It might help you put things into perspective.

My 9 month old Maine Coon cat was spayed last week. Her operation went well and her cut on her belly is healing just fine; however, I have noticed that now after a week she is getting a little pot belly/lump right under the incision on her belly. Is this normal? Has this ever happened to anybody's cat after they were spayed?
I work at a vet clinic, and we commonly get questions from clients about this.
First, yes it is common for cats to gain weight after being spayed or neutered. But, 1 week isn't long enough for you to notice a difference.
"a little pot belly/lump right under the incision on her belly." From what you've mentioned, it seems like your seeing some kind of reaction involving the incision (aka her cut on her belly). The way that it was most likely closed was that your veterinarian used sutures underneath the skin. They will tie a knot on the lower portion of the incision, so that there is more suture underneath the skin at that point. This will somethimes cause a small suture reaction, and will cause a small lump to appear under the skin. This is usually not painful, and will heal fine.
That's my take on it. If the incision is not very red, swollen, hard, warm, or painful to your cat, then I would say it is a normal suture reaction. But if you are seeing any of those things, then I would bring her in to your veterinarian to have her examined.

I am moving in a few months to another country. I have two cats that need to go with us and I was wondering about air travel. They will go in the cabin with us, but I am sure they will scream and howl like crazy. What should I do? I have heard really bad things about sedatives and tranquilizers and that they are not reliable and can hurt the cat. They are both about 10 years old and I have heard that older cats might not wake up from tranquilizers. Is this true? Of course I don't want that to happen, but I also don't want any trouble from complaining passengers because of my cats' howling. Any advice?? Thanks!
I work at a veterinary clinic, and the Vets that I work with will commonly prescribe sedatives to patients for car rides/thunderstorms/plane rides. Of course they would not prescribe anything if they didn't feel that it was safe for the patient. You should definately bring your cats in to your veterinary clinic and have them examined to see if they are healthy enough for sedatives.
If a cat doesn't wake up after having a tranquilizer, then chances are they were not examined properly and deemed healthy enough. That being said... with giving any kind of sedative, there are always chances that something bad will happen... just like there are chances that you or your animals will have adverse reactions to ANY medication that is taken.
Some commonly used medications used for sedation (at least at my veterinary clinic) are diazepam (or valium) and acepromazine. Of the two medications I would feel safer using diazepam since acepromazine is hard to judge how it will affect your patient. Plus it's much more dangerous in older patients.
There are also injectable medications that can be used as anti-anxiety meds. One such medication that I absolutely love is called midazolam. I especially love it when our vet's use it on the other cats that come in for sedation. It will calm the wildest cat and is very safe. I don't know if that would be available for you to use, since it needs to be injected, and may not last long enough.
I would go to your vet and talk to them to see what your options are.

I'm going to get a duschund in a few weeks a & was thinking about breeding her I needed to know how many puppies she will have & how long should I wait to breed her. Also I have wanted to know when I'm looking for a mate for her, what should I look for.
Thank You for your time,
Olivia
It's hard to say how many puppies a daschund will have. There can be as few as 5 or so. While working at an emergency vet clinic, I once saw an emergency c-section on a daschund that had 11 puppies. This dog was very sick because of the amount of puppies that she had.
You should wait until at least their second heat cycle, until she is old enough to handle a litter. Work with your vet on any specific questions about keeping her healthy during the pregnancy. If your vet doesn't specialize in reproduction, it would be best if you found a new vet who does.
As for looking for a stud for her, you should look for the same things as you look for when choosing a bitch that you want to breed. Both dogs should be healthy with good temperaments. This means that you need to find out what their parents (and grandparents) were like. The purpose of breeding is to breed the "perfect" dog, not to continue breeding dogs that could give their puppies inhearitable diseases or aggression/anxiety issues.
Like I said, work with your vet with this and you should be fine.

ok so my little 4 month old puppy has worms i dont have enough money to take her to a vet...im 16 i told my rents but there not doing anything about it.. and everynight like she sleeps with me and i wake up and on my bed were like.. little things that looked like red rice??? what are those they wernt moving and they dont look like worms but i know there coming from her what are they?
All puppies are born with worms. Your dog has roundworms, because all puppies have them if they are not treated, and your puppy has tapeworms, because that's what you've described. You should not let the dog sleep in your bed until you've treated her and you no longer see any worms in her stool. And then wait another month still.
You should call different vets in your area and see if you can at least pick up some wormer. The round worm stuff costs around $10, and the tapeworm stuff could cost another 10 or so. You should give her the wormer, and then give her a second dose in about three weeks to get rid of all of the worms that have hatched in that time.
You should stress to your parents that intestinal parasites like round worms and tapeworms are contageous to humans and can be very damaging. Roundworms usually travel to the eyes of humans and cause permanent damage there. Is it really worth possibly causing eye damage to you just to save a few bucks.
Plus let them know that, if left untreated you could drain the puppy of her energy, nutrients and blood and she could die a slow painful death. :)

my dog got cancer 2 years ago. my dad put tons of money and time into getting her tumors removed every few months. but they kept growing back faster and faster and now they are in her lungs. she has trouble breathing and i feel horrible for her. she is 11 btw and an american bull dog. is there anything i can do for her? she is probably going to die soon. i just want to know if there is anything i can do to help her live longer. and im not sure if she is in pain or not? she flinches when i touch her stomach but other than that she seems normal and fine. she is an extremely strong dog. she has gone through so many operations and she bounces back the same day. is there any way to remove tumors from someones lungs? or does the doctor just not want to do it? i really want her to live. i love her very much.
Without seeing the radiographs of her lungs, no one can properly say whether or not surgery would help. But, from what you've said, surgery probably wouldn't help. What happens with cancer is that is metasticises to other parts of the body. When that happens, the radiographs show what look like hundreds of bony growths in the lungs. A surgeon would not be able to take hundreds of growths off of the lungs, since every time he/she would cut into the lungs that would be a way for air and blood to escape and he would have to suture it, which would irritate it. Not to mention that some of the growths would be inside the lungs. The most you can do is enjoy the time she has and make her as comfortable as possible.
Now, if the problem is that she has one large tumur, then that is sometimes surgically possible, but not every veterinarian could or should do it. It's not like a spay. The animals who need to have chest surgery are sick and at a high risk. You need at least two very skilled technician/nurses and should have one very skilled doctor and a technician scubbed to do the surgery, or two doctors scrubbed to do the surgery. Not every veterinary clinic has the skills or employees to do that. Not to mention that the post op most likely won't be like her past surgeries. Just because she bounced back before doesn't mean she will the next time. You (or your parents) could spend a few thousand dollars on this one surgery only to find out that instead of another month to live, your dog has a week of hard recovery left.
This is definately a question best left to you and your veterinarian and your parents. If your Veterinarian has gotten you through multiple chemotherapies and surgeries then I see absolutely no reason to not trust him now. Many veterinarians, especially one's who put as much care as you say this one has put into taking care of your pet, really do care more about the pet then about how much money their making off of treating your pet.

my cat had a heart murmur (irregular heart beat) and the vet said he wouldn't make it through the night but he did. Now he is urinating everywhere. Sometimes its just a little, the next time he is completley soaked in it. What might be wrong with him? Don't tell me too take him to the vet again. I am at the end of the week. I just want more info on what it might be.
There are different stages of heart murmurs, from stage 1, being the least serious to stage 6, being the most serious. Stage 6 is when you can simply put your hand on the side of your cats chest and it feels like his heart is banging on your hand and is going to jump out of his chest. Stage 1 would be having a veterinarian listening with a stethescope for a minute or more and kind of being able to hear an abnormality.
So, that being said, there are also many many different causes of heart murmurs, just like there are many different degrees of heart murmurs. Did your veterinarian do any other diagnostic tests, such as bloodwork, radiographs, echocardiogram, bloodpressure, or ECG. If your veterinarian didn't do these, and didn't even offer them, then I would suggest getting a new veterinarian. Simply saying the cat wouldn't make it through the night without trying to find out why the murmur is there is irresponsible. I would call different vet clinics in the area and try to find one who specializes in cardiology. If you don't want to do that, then there's nothing anyone on this site can do for you. At the absolute least your cat could have a urinary tract infection that has nothing to do with his heart. In this case, you would at least need antibiotics. He could also be blocked, and if left unfixed he will go into renal failure. When a male cat starts to pee in innappropriate places, such as out of his litterbox around the house, if he's peeing a tiny bit each time, then it's a sign that he could be blocked, it hurts him to pee, so he associates it with his litter box and doesn't want to pee in his litterbox anymore.
But regardless of the problem, there's no way to properly diagnose it or treat it without a Veterinarian to examine him.

my friends staff has only been in season for 6 days and so is still bleeding, her male dog has tied with her twice in this time. why has she let him and can she get pregnant at this stage.
At the clinic I work at we have a Dr. who specializes in reproduction, and she has a group of technicians (nurses) who help her out and are on the "reproduction team" Unfortunately, I am not on the reproduction team. But I can try to answer your questions as best as I can.
Here's a little bit about the anatomy and physiology of an intact female during her cycle. First is Anestrus, when there is no activity, when she is not in heat, this lasts 4-7 months.
Next stage is Proestrus. This is when the bitch (as in female intact dog) has a reddish discharge, and will attract the male, but does not mate. Proestrus can last 4 - 13 days.
The next stage is Estrus, when the discharge changes to a straw color. This is when the female is receptive to the male. Estrus can also last 4-13 days.
During estrus is when you usually want to mate a dog. To find out when your dog is in estrus, your veterinarian can do vaginal swabs and look at them under a microscope. If there is a male available, then it is common to mate them every other day. but if another male is not available and your doing artificial insemination then you should have your veterinarian test for Progesterone to see when she is ovulating. This is a long and expensive process if it's done right.
Now as for your questions. Why did she allow the dog to mate with her? Because she was in heat. You should keep all intact male dogs and intact female dogs separate when they are in heat, unless you are purposely breeding them. And, if your purposely breeding them, then there's no problems here. The bitch is not "supposed" to mate until she's ovulating, but this dog either ovulated early and you didn't notice that she's in estrus and not bleeding, or she hasn't read the books that I've read and doesn't know that she's not supposed to mate yet.
Can she get pregnant? If she's not ovulating, then the chances of her getting pregnant are decreases, but I don't believe they are totally gone.
It's best to work with your veterinarian and at least take vaginal cytologies to find out when she's in estrus, and then mate every other day as she goes through estrus. Or, if you don't want them mated, them keep her or him crated and away from each other during the entire process. Better yet, get them both spayed and neutered, which will also help their health tremendously.
Hope I helped, if you have any other questions I'll try to help, and sorry for the delay in answering.
