i've got a broken leg and it has to stay in a cast for weeks. I mean, ages! Im stuck with not a lot to do so im just eating loads of rubbish and im worried im gonna get fat.

how can i exercise so that i dont put on loadsa weight without actually hurtin my leg real bad?

Good question, and its great to see that you actually want to make the effort to stay in reasonable shape despite your injury. If I were you I would not worry so much about the exercises you do and how hard you work, whatever your upper body can handle is sufficient, just enough to get a pump and then stop. Focus instead on the diet, as your body won't be at it's peak performance and burning as many calories. Keep your eating plan as clean as possible and I know it's very hard to do, I've been there too. Take care of the leg and just take your time, you have plenty of it for the rest of your life to get in shape, just do what you can for now.

17/f I've been doing about 20 situps everyday and drinking plenty of warter for the past month to try to lose weight,but for some reason after I do the 20 situps my back hurts and I feel like throwing afterwards why is this?

20 sit-ups aren't as effective as 50-100 crunches, but this and water aren't enough to lose weight. It's a total body effort with correct eating, training and resting.

The reason your back hurts is because sit-ups put unnecessary stress on the lower back that is greatly reduced when you do a crunch properly.

The reason you feel like throwing up is either because you ate too much before you exercised, you ate too little for the day before you did the exercise, or most common- you aren't breathing the correct way during the exercise. Should be careful because with sit-ups and crunches in particular there can be a high possibility of a tear in the internal adbominal wall if breathing isn't done properly. Edit- (Sorry, Exhale on the way up and Inhale on the way down.)

So what's the deal with diet coke? It's zero calories and no fat, and only 1% sodium of the daily amount. Other than the caffiene, is there something else in it that's not good for you?

Let's break it down. Diet Coke is a drink that is artificial and is not an animal byproduct such as milk...so it makes sense that soda would have no fat. People worry way too much about sodium without knowing that the RDA is between 1,100 and 2,400 mgs. Besides only models and bodybuilders trying to drop water at a bodyfat level of about 6% have to worry about sodium. What's so bad about caffeine? Nothing wrong with a cup or two of coffee every morning so that shouldn't be a factor. What comes into play is the sweeteners which make it taste the way it does since it cannot be real sugar, but a sugar substitute such as aspartamae.

The bottom line-

Doesn't matter whether it's zero calorie, 1 calorie or regular soda- it wreaks havoc on our system and is counterproductive to whatever goals we may want to achieve. Stick to water mainly and milk for the extra good fats and protein. If you absolutely must have something sweet- stick with unsweetened iced tea.

What are the best games to play online?I only know of one and its rainbow six lockdown.Is there any games that are really good?

Halo 2 and Star Wars Battlefront 2 are by far the best I have ever played online and for Xbox, Diablo 2 for the PC as well as Counterstrike is great too. If you have Playstation, SOCOM 3 is great.

I've been a lacto-ovo vegetarian since April. now it's June and hot dog season. I never really enjoyed hot dogs or barbecue as a meat-eating person, but I've started to give everything a try once. my problem is that there are so many different types of vegetarian hot dog alternatives. I don't want to try them all because I know some are probably terrible and I don't want to be turned off of them. if you're a vegetarian or have tried a lot of vegetarian products, I'd like advice on which hot dogs are better than others.

Whether you're a vegetarian or not, no hot dog is good for you and I really recommend you steer clear of them as much as you possibly can. Hebrew National makes some good dogs though. The lacto-ovo vegetarian diet always interested me, you're in good company because 5 time Mr. Universe Bill Pearl has been one for over 40 years and he's one of the greats in the fitness world.

Edit- Sure, Hot dogs are the greatest super food in the world for you and are "healthy". I heard that if you eat 3 a day that you'll lose 25 lbs in 3 days.....NOT. But what do I know? Iam only a personal trainer.

Okay I've been doing crunches a lot to work on my stomach area but I jsut noticed that like if i look down at my stomache the uppers sides(like under my chest) go in, and the middle sticks out more down below. Is that bad? or does it mean i'm working my upper abs more than my lower?

I don't know what you're saying but it doesn't have anything to do with the fact you are just working your "Upper" abs. If people understand biomechanics and kinesiology then they would know that crunches don't just do the, as everyone loves to call them nowadays "Upper" abs because it's all one muscle and it moves in unison- this includes the whole entire abdominal system, the only reason why you feel it in the "Upper" abs is because that's where the brunt of the force is going into...doesn't mean the "Lower" abs aren't getting worked efficiently.

I wanna loose like 25-30 lbs Before September. Cause every year in Gym we get weighed which i hate! About how long will it take to loose this weight doing it the proper way?

In all honesty, a true 25-30 lbs of pure fat takes at least a year to year and a half of concentrated dieting and training to lose. Sorry.

Every two weeks I like to go one day with out eating, or skipping a meal. I do not do it to lose weight but I have heard it is good for you ( I still drink water ) and it helps to flush out toxins in your body. Is this true? I regularily eat small meals throughout the day that are healthy and I get usually 2-4 hours of exercise a day. After fasting for a day I continue with my normal eating pattern and I do not try to eat a lot to make up for it.

This is beneficial, right?

There can be no opinions on this matter...bottom line is that depriving yourself of nutrients is never good for you under any circumstance. If you really do exercise for 2-4 hours per day...do you know how many calories you need? and if your body doesn't get them, all it does is store whatever it does have and it becomes bodyfat. Muscles are mostly water (about 72%) and when you prevent food energy in the form of glycogen to getting to them...you retain the fat and this is what happens during fasting.

Your body is going to get all out of whack if you do this and can give you about a 97% probability that your whole diet and exercise problem will fail and you will need to start all over again to get your body back in the right groove to handle the rigors of the fitness lifestyle.

Keep eating and stop listening to what you hear nowadays...there are provisions being made to help stop people from making ridiculous claims like this and putting uneducated, easily influenced people at risk.

What fruits are the best for you? I mean I know almost all fruits are really good for you, but what ones are the BEST for you? And why?

The best fruit a dieter can have in my opinion is pineapple. Pineapples contain a special enzyme which other fruits do not which helps in the more efficient metabolising of proteins which should be high with nay dieter. Reason being all enzymes are proteins, but all proteins are not enzymes.

Your body isn't used to rigorous exercise and your soreness will be a lot greater than someone who has been exercising for quite sometime...or so they say, because Iam sore as hell every single day lol. The soreness just shows that you broke down enough old muscle fibers to build new, stronger ones

It's called DOMS- Delayed Onset Muscle Soreness, not much you can do about it except let time heal it and if you keep exercising, then get used to it and take it as a good sign that you did a sufficient workout.

Yes, I and all trainers are well aware of the current epidemic of bulimea and it's really becoming a problem because in today's day and age everything is fast paced and instant and people think that your body is the same way. Very wrong.

The reason why you got fatter is because your body can acclimate to a deprived state for only so long until one way or another- it's going to get what it wants. Yes, it worked for you...but not in the ways that you think it did.

It's good that you want to do this the right way and Iam glad to be helping you so I want you to know first hand that I try and get people away from the cosmetic part of this right off the bat and focus in on the health aspects this all brings so have the fact that your boyfriend is coming back shift to the backburner and try and figure how you are going to get your body back into a healthy balance. Good news- good diets and exercise programs work twofold- they make you look good and they make your body a lot more efficient.

All you have to do is eat 4 small meals a day spaced 3-4 hours apart (NEVER skip breakfast) and exercise with weights or cardio or even both for 45 mins-1 hour 3 to 4 times per week. Thats the healthy way to do it and the way where results stay after they come. Changes take a longggg time to happen in your body so you're in for the long road ahead, but once you get there you will feel a great sense of accomplishment and pride.

You two are wayyy too young to be obsessive over your weight. Your bodies have a lot of growing and maturing to do before it can really withstand the rigors of a real diet and exercise program.

MTV is not real life and shows about how celebrities lose weight are not for the common person. They can afford the top notch Hollywood trainers and all of things that come along with fitness.

All you can do now is eat right, sleep and if you weight train then do it very light only twice a week with some cardio mixed in.

That's a pretty shallow line of thinking if he does. Some guys are "Chubby Chasers" and like that stuff a lot and it all really comes down to the guy. I don't care what anyone says, looks always come into play with asking someone out whether you're a girl or boy...think of it this way- if you're a girl would you rather date Danny DeVito or Brad Pitt?. Like I said..it just depends how shallow the individual can be.

Of course personality is always key, but to be honest with you..looks do factor in significantly especially if the guy is only like 15 or 16 years old because all he wants to do then is have sex with someone hot. However I never subscribed to that line of thinking personally.

Since your body is used to Aerobic work, you should change it up and do Anaerobic work (More weights). All you have to do is eat 4 small meals a day spaced out every 3 to 4 hours and workout 3 or 4 times per week and rest up a lot and that's really all there is to it. No fancy diet methods or counting every single calorie...but good plain old methods that have been used by bodybuilders and the common laypeople for generations.

Your target weight loss idea is ok, but I prefer to see people setting goals for losing inches over pounds since you won't be carrying around a scale to show people how much weight you lost.

It's safe but not very effective in the long run...it's really only used by bodybuilders and models before competitions or photo shoots to draw water out of their waistlines quickly and for a very short term.

If you really want one, don't get the expensive ones, you can get one at Modell's for 10 dollars.

Okay. so, i know that when you want to eat healthy you don't go to McDonalds. But what I don't know is what you look for on the labels of food I mean, what are things that are good? Low calories? Low Carbs? stuff like that? Also, what types of foods are good to eat if you want to loose about 10 pounds but while also working out? I'd really appreciate if you would help me out. thnx

All you have to do is look at how many grams everything is. For every gram of protein or carbohydrate, it is 4 calories and for every gram of fat it's 9 calories. Look at the caloric total and see how many grams of each of those 3 there are so you can determine whether its fat densed, carb or protein or nice and equal. You have to stick to the serving size also to get an accurate read. I tell people to not look for "Low" or "No" anything because even if it is deficient in what is said, they substitute it with an ingredient that isn't that great either. All you have to do is use your common sense and not eat things that are too high in fat or carbs and stick to a diet higher in protein since its has less caloric value and doesn't store as bodyfat like carbs do.
