my sides like go in

Question Posted Saturday July 8 2006, 11:16 am

Okay I've been doing crunches a lot to work on my stomach area but I jsut noticed that like if i look down at my stomache the uppers sides(like under my chest) go in, and the middle sticks out more down below. Is that bad? or does it mean i'm working my upper abs more than my lower?
Helpp i'm kidna freaking out.

I don't know what you're saying but it doesn't have anything to do with the fact you are just working your "Upper" abs. If people understand biomechanics and kinesiology then they would know that crunches don't just do the, as everyone loves to call them nowadays "Upper" abs because it's all one muscle and it moves in unison- this includes the whole entire abdominal system, the only reason why you feel it in the "Upper" abs is because that's where the brunt of the force is going into...doesn't mean the "Lower" abs aren't getting worked efficiently.

It could just be the way you are exercising, try do some different excirses in your schedule to work the other parts of the abs. Try normal sit ups and laying flat on your back and lifting your legs off the ground, and slowly raising them up and down without putting them on the ground (I forgot what this exercise is called but its really effective for your lower abs, if it gets painful then your doing it right).

;)

actually, i have the same problem. it's nothing to worry about though, loosing your lower stomach is a lot harder than loosing the upper portion. try to vary the type of crunches you do and see which works that certain area the most. make sure you eat alot of dairy products too (and i dont mean ice cream and chocolate) it helps trim down your stomach, especially around your waist. hope i helped =]

Chances are you're just working the top muscles. But if you think it's that odd, go ask a parent or someone who plays a lot of sports or exercises a lot.

It shouldn't be anything to worry about though.

i think you should just rest for a while and if nothing goes back to normal, talk to your mom or sombody because it could be damaged or you would just need it to be checked out. dont freak yourself out over it. just relax a while.
