Hi, I'm Laura. I'm a senior in college & I'm slowly deciding what I want to do with my life. I love Harry Potter, coffee, writing, and sleeping (amongst other things). I'll never claim to know everything, but I'm confident in my ability to help people with their problems. Feel free to send me an inbox question; I'll get back to you!
A few thoughts I've gathered from my teenage years (and being on this site for most of them!):
1. If you Google song lyrics, the song will come up 99% of the time.
2. Dress to fit your body type, and buy the size that fits. If you're a size 6, squeezing into a 4 won't make you look skinnier. It makes you look fat when you aren't.
3. You will never regret waiting to lose your virginity.
4. There is such a thing as a stupid question, but we're all allowed to ask them.
BU 2014 :)
wicked awesome conversations
^my forum, liven it up a little?
advice
when doing laundry, are you supposed to turn everything inside out?
You don't have to. In most cases it isn't necessary (normal jeans will be unaffected no matter what way they are washed). The only time it's really necessary is if you're washing a sweater - especially knitted ones- or if your clothes have decorations such as sequins/glitter. If you still aren't sure, turn it inside out- all it'll do is take up some time. :]

hi.. require a info. I want to know what are the best brand in lingerie category for women, i wan tto give 2 my girl? what are the stuffs women would like to wear generally 2 feel comfortable, i want to surprise her?
Also, is there any chances of getting diseases if i give oral if she is unshaved, is it good to ask her as i am concerned about hygeine?
With lingerie comfort isn't typically the first thing considered. Get lingerie in your favorite color (or hers). Lace is a very pretty addition. I don't know what stores are popular where you are; Victoria's Secret and Frederick's of Hollywood are two that I know of. They are also available online. Make sure you know her size!
Being unshaven has no connection to whether or not a woman might have an STD/STI. The only way to know for sure is to be tested. Several diseases can be passed through unprotected oral sex, so make sure you're both clean of diseases (again, you'll have to be tested to be sure) and using protection such as dental dams & condoms. Hygiene is still important, however. If she showers or bathes regularly, she should be fine. It's totally okay to ask if she's showered, just make sure you're doing the same thing for her!
Thanks for inboxing.

does it hurt the first time you get fingered? or does it feel good?
what exactly does it feel like?
Ask them to go slowly at first & make sure their nails are trimmed and cleaned [infection will be less likely, and scratches down there = ouch!] I can only assume that it feels amazingly good for some girls, and terribly painful to others [both outcomes due to several factors]
However, we can't really go into detail on this site because there's underage users.

It has come to my attention that every class i've ever had related to health or mental health has covered, in detail, both bulemia and anorexia. But none of the classes has ever even mentioned self injury. These are all self destructive behaviors, and I think that if people had more information on them, they wouldnt be so quick to judge because they would know more about it. Have any of you ever talked about this in class before? Even in my psychology class as a freshmen in college it never came up.
Health is optional in my school. The closest my teachers ever got was talking about depression, and self injury was MENTIONED, that's it.
It's a very difficult subject to approach in a high school, however I don't understand why it wouldn't be covered in a college class. Or, teachers could be banned from talking about it, in the same way that teachers aren't allowed to teach us how condoms are used [and they wonder why so many of us got pregnant!].
Possibly, the fact that my school has shop areas might have something to do with it - anorexics clearly aren't eating, so it's obvious - but those cuts and burns could very well be from metal shards flying everywhere in manufacturing, or a hot tailpipe in automotive technologies.
Bring it up in class; that's the best way to make your opinions heard.

What is a really good moisturizer? My skin is super dry, flaky, scaley (whatever) and rough and i want it back to my baby soft skin. it is really dry from vacation (really hot/humid and tons of sun exposure) and my new acne medicine so i need some great moisturizer
Biore "Nourish" lotion and Clean & Clear Oxygenating are good for everyday use. They're oil-free (no clogged pores) and have SPF 15.
If you've got some REALLY dry spots, Eucerin Cream (not lotion) is excellent. It can make your face really greasy though, so only use it at night.

Hey i'm 15 and i have long frizzy thick wavy hair and i hate it. its impossible to get it to work for me and i live in miami, so i get like maybe 2 or 3 days a year when its dry and cold enough to make my hair work with me. I've tried thousands of products and ironing kills my hair if i do it too much. i'm fed up and i just want to chop it off. I've got a body that i know isn't thin enough for really short hair sorta like a scarlett johansson type of thing from when she was in 'He's just not that into you'. Not fat obviously just not the body that agrees with short hair. is there any hairstyles you'd recommend for me? Heres a pic of me below. I'm obviously the girl. Also if you got a color dye for my hair to recommend that'd be cool too.

First off: Paul Mitchell Super Skinny Serum is a miracle product. Try it (a small bottle is less than $10) and you won't be disappointed. If you're worried about having short hair, why not cut off an inch or two at a time? If it's too short, it'll just grow out again. Also, getting layers can make your hair feel thinner (and make it easier to style/gel), without actually getting it thinned- which can make frizz worse.
I think your hair looks lovely the way it is now, though :]

I need more volunteer hours. Is there any places that would let a 15 year old volunteer?
The senior center is always looking for help. I've done 40 hours with them this year.
Also, does your school have a Leo Club? They do community service projects all the time. Ask your guidance office or principal.

i used to have terrible skin but its starting to get better. people have noticed and told me. all of my zits are gone thanks to my face wash but i still have terrible blackheads as well as very large pores. do you know anything i could do for either of those things?
Toner/astringent, whatever you want to call it, helps to shrink pores. Also, oil sheets (Clean and Clear's version is really cheap) will minimize their appearance too.
For blackheads use Biore Pore Strips once or twice a week, and a scrub. Try not to pop them out yourself, because that can leave nasty scars. Get a facial instead.

so my dad has a bunch of medications for different things (heart, lungs, and blood pressure...etc) and i want to know if they clash with each other... he is pretty old so its easy for him to mess up the medications and i just want to double check (i also called the doc hence "double") and see what shouldn't be taken with what.. is there a site where i could type in the med (all of them) to see??
thank you
My senior center is affiliated with a program called "File of Life". It's free, and gives you a magnetic holder and paper work for exactly what you want (and what YG was mentioning, keeping a list of everything you or a loved one is taking). It also comes with a waller-sized list, and a lot of EMT's know to look for it. Also, it's very easy to pick it up and bring with you to the doctor. My grandparents have them, and it's great.
I assume that he's already using them, but pill sorters/boxes help prevent overdosing (or forgetting a pill).

i been on the pill for a couple months now.. i miss my pill on saturday its now sunday i took saturdays pill and sundays pill today (sunday) tomorrow im going to have sex (unprotected) what are the chances of me getting pregnant
You won't. Missing one pill (and taking it when you remember, along with that day's pill) doesn't affect the effectiveness of the pill.
But you really should get better at remembering to take it- try setting a reminder on your cell phone, or taking it every day while doing something else (getting home from school, brushing your teeth before bed, etc).
If you ever miss more than one in a row, follow the directions that came with your birth control packet, and use a backup method for the rest of the month.

My boyfriend and i have been dating for about 9 months now. We're both 16 and we love eachother.
but he has this crazy ex. (don't they all.) and she wants him back so bad. but he loves me.
so one night he got drunk( or so he says) and kissed her. but then practically fainted and cried. ( i wasn't there...his friends, who i'm close with, told me) so that first day back he told me. he told me everything, and didn't lie about anything. which i respect and loved that he told me. but ever since then, i feel like he might do it again, but he's that kind of boy who...tells the truth. i know its hard to understand, but like. He's a good boy, and had a good family...it's just he made a mistake. I still love him, but it feels like there's something missing. Of course, i'm still afraid, but its a cycle. One minute i'm fine, and the other minute i'm freaking out. Please help.
thanks.
Well, it was only a kiss.
If you know he won't do it again, give him another chance. From what you've said he really seems sorry and regrets doing it.
So long as you trust him, I don't see a problem.
He's human, and was also drunk.
He should also take this as a lesson that maybe he shouldn't drink anymore. At least not around psycho exes =P

so im thinking of getting straight-across bangs. right now i have side bangs, but i want a change. but im kinda scared because :
1. are they easy to take care of?
2. what if i want to have side bangs for a day? will they look weird since its a different cut?
3. if i have thin-ish bangs, will they always seperate and show my big forehead?
please let me know your thoughts and personal experriences ASAP! i think im gonna get my hair cut tomorrow (thursday)
1. It's not that much harder than having side bangs. I style mine with a straightener and it takes a few seconds. The only problem is that they usually have to stay striaghtened, like if you wear your hair curly one day your bangs still have to be straightened, or pinned back.
2. Cut them at a slight angle. Have them shortest at the center, and a bit longer on the sides. It looks less severe than actual straight-across bangs and it's almost the same style (and easier to manipulate, since you can part them to the side too)
3. After a few days of being styled, your bangs will start to fall that way. It's about the same as parting your hair in a different spot.
From personal experience I can say that bangs are an easy way to change your look. And the best part is that they'll grow out pretty quickly, so if you don't like them you can get rid of them relatively fast (as opposed to, say, cutting your hair a foot shorter and dyeing it green)

what is like an amazingly good hair straightner thats also reasonably priced?
what is a really good eyeliner pencil that stays on and doesnt smear?
whats like a really original store that isnt too expensive?
im looking to update my look...
Straightener:

A good eyeliner is N.Y.C. waterproof (it's about $4)
To get a really "original" look, don't buy everything from the same store. I love:
- Charlotte Russe (for tops),
- Kohls (for everything, especially basics like camis and tshirts),
- American Eagle (everything! Aerie is wicked nice too)
- Aeropostale (jeans and hoodies are always cheap there)

orthodox jew?
I'll take "things that could easily be Googled, or researched in an encyclopedia, ftw!", Alex.
Basically it's a very strict form of Judaism. As mackenzie said there's a lot to be learned, so I recommend doing some research for yourself based on what you were looking for an explanation of :]

Ok well my friend's sweet 16 is coming up and it's an indoor pool party. And I'm not sure what to wear because I can't wear bathing suit bottoms or shorts because you can see my self-harm scars. so maybe someone can help me figure out what to wear. And please don't give me answers like "you shouldn't self-harm, it's unhealthy and bad" I know it's unhealthy and what not but you don't know me and what I've been through. all I'm asking for is advice what to wear not my depression/self harming issues. so if you could help that would be great.
thanks !
-Michelle Monster
Have you considered wearing a bikini or tankini top, and board shorts? If your scars are mostly above your knees that would work perfectly. You could say something like "Oh, my legs aren't beach-ready yet. I'm so pale!" if you're asked about your clothing choice.
And I know you don't want to hear it, but asking for help isn't a sign of weakness. Just remember that, ok?

My parents want to send me to a private catholic all girls school i my town. It is also required to wear a (very ugly) uniform. The classes look good and the school has good ratings and everything, but i have a problem with the religion thing, as well as the all girls part and the fact that I have to wear a uniform. how can i convince my parents to let me go to a different school or stay in public school??
Ask them their reasons for sending you to a private, all-girls school. If their main concern is your education, you can very easily convince them that you'd get a good education elsewhere. You'll get out of school only what you put into it. If you aren't paying attention and taking notes, you won't learn. And regardless of who is teaching you you won't be paying attention if you dont want to, right?
If they still insist on sending you to a private school, mention the cost (especially in this economy). It could be applied to college tuition and pay a fair amount of it off (without loans!)
Or, ask if you can compromise and go to a boys/girls school instead of all-girls. I know a couple girls who go to all-girls schools and they're always talking about the drama/backstabbing/bitchiness that goes on. It seems to be worse than the regular private schools.
Hope I helped.

I got my ears pierced about a year ago and that was the 3rd or 4th time they've been pierced. They're now only about halfway closed. I don't want to waste the money getting them done again. So I was wondering how I could do it myself. And on a scale of one to ten(1 being like pinching your ear the hardest you can. 10 being the worst pain you could imagine) I don't have the highest pain tolerance in the world. But its not the lowest either. The last time I got them pierced w/ a gun I shed one tear (although this time I'm doing it with a needle) and that was a year ago. I could probably stand a 2 or 3.
It doesn't hurt that much at all. Have an ice cube ready to numb your skin afterwards. Since you're using something sharp it'll be less painful than using an earring (which is what I've done multiple times). You should be fine.
And make sure you clean the area before and after with ear cleaner, hydrogen peroxide, or rubbing alcohol. But you already knew that.

So i have a question for the guys. girls can answer too, if they know but prefarably id like to know how the guy feels about it. Okay, so when a girl hooks up with a guy 90% of the time, she devolps some sort of feelings or crush for that guy. My question is, how do guys feel about it. And what if they hook up more than once, like timeseperated by monthes. That must mean that something keeps bringing them back. Or do they just come back for an easy, unnattached hookup? Can guys just hook up with girls and have no feelings at all? I dont get it!
I read in Cosmo this month that 80 something percent of guys believe that a hookup CAN develop into a relationship. Undoubtedly this depends on the circumstances. Yes, guys can hook up with a girl purely for fun and no commitment. But, girls can too. The only way you'll know for sure is if you ask him how he feels about it. It might be just a casual hookup for him, or he could be thinking the same thing you are right now. None of us are mindreaders ;]

so yeah i know everyone has one boob bigger than the other
but for me, one keeps growing, and one isnt at all
and im afraid soon that one will be a different cup size
will it even out!?!?
in 14 and i got my period a year ago
It's normal for them to vary, even by a cup size. You notice it way more tha anyone else- after all, real ones are never exactly the same size anyway.
If you're still concerned ask a doctor, but I'm sure you're fine. It's typically a concern only if the difference is 2 sizes or more.

Hi - My dad' iTunes doesn't list the standard smart playlists that my version has. We are both running 8.0.2 (the latest version right now), and I have already re-created an "Added Recently" folder for him, but I'm wondering why he doesn't see the list of "purple icon" smart playlists that I can see. I didn't create them, but I have them... 90's Music, Audiobooks, Movies, Music, Music Videos, My Top Rated, Recently Added, Recently Played, Top 25 Most Played, and TV Shows. Did I click something at some point to get those? Why doesn't my dear dad have them? I had him name the folder we created (over the phone) "Added Recently" so if you can answer my question, there will be room for the magic mising "Recently Added." Thanks!
If you're sharing playlists change your settings in the "Advanced" tab under iTunes preferences.
Otherwise, it might just be his computer. Try re-installing it; iTunes gets weird sometimes. (Your music won't be affected because they're saved as files on your computer)
If it still doesn't work, ask theymos. He's a genius :]
