"Do not pity the dead, Harry. Pity the living, and, above all those who live without love" - Albus DumbledoreHi, I'm Laura. I'm a senior in college & I'm slowly deciding what I want to do with my life. I love Harry Potter, coffee, writing, and sleeping (amongst other things). I'll never claim to know everything, but I'm confident in my ability to help people with their problems. Feel free to send me an inbox question; I'll get back to you!
A few thoughts I've gathered from my teenage years (and being on this site for most of them!):
1. If you Google song lyrics, the song will come up 99% of the time.
2. Dress to fit your body type, and buy the size that fits. If you're a size 6, squeezing into a 4 won't make you look skinnier. It makes you look fat when you aren't.
3. You will never regret waiting to lose your virginity.
4. There is such a thing as a stupid question, but we're all allowed to ask them.
BU 2014 :)
wicked awesome conversations
^my forum, liven it up a little?
advice
For my birthday party ii`m turning 16 and ii`m having about 10 of my girl friends spend the night. what are some things we can do so its not boring!?
Watch a tom of movies all night (have everyone bring their favorite; label the cases so you don't mix them up)
Marathon viewings of a favorite television show [House MD is the ONLY good show, by the way... just kidding] You can get whole seasons of EVERYTHING on DVD.
Spa night, do everyone's nails, hair, toes, etc.
Gossip, talk about life, anything.
You'll make your own fun. Don't plan everything out down to the second. And everything'll be fine.
Happy Sweet Sixteen, and have a good time!

whenever i shave my legs they dont shave properly, ive used a brand new razor but theres stil a bit of stubble after i shave. and i get ingrowing hairs on my legs about a day after i shaved. what can i do?
Exfoliate. Find a scrub you like the smell of, and use it before you shave. Two I recommend are St. Ives Apricot Scrub and that citrusey one from Noxema.
You can also make your own by mixing sugar and aloe vera gel.
You can usually remove ingrown hairs by exfoliating, then using tweezers to pull them out. Your legs will be red for awhile, but it goes away.

Does anyone have any reliable natural remedies for migraines? I don't like taking medication and the tablets don't work too well anyway.
I've seen the doctor and there's not a lot else that can be done, so I need to look elsewhere.
Any suggestions would be appreciated.
Migranes absolutely suck. Trust me, I know.
How many different OTC meds have you tried? You'll need to experiment to find what works best for you. Tylenol, for example, does nothing for me, but Motrin works within minutes. Also, experiment with dosages, frequency, etc. YOu can safely take about 600mg (as opposed to the prescribed 400) if you have a particularly aggressive headache. Just be careful and follow the "no more than X amount of pills in 24 hrs" and you'll be fine.
As for natural remedies, figure out what your triggers are. Chocolate, dairy, sugar, and flourescent lights are common ones. You might already be familiar with the term, if not- getting a headsplitting migrane following eating a three scoop Death By Chocolate cone at Friendlys = chocolate is likely a trigger for you. The advice here is straightforward- avoid your triggers once you know them.
Packing my head in ice packs works well for me. It'll make you really cold, though (obviously) so get a nice blanket ready. Also, taking a short nap, staying hydrated, aromatherapy, and music can help ease migranes too.
Lastly, computer screens often aggrevate migranes. So avoid them if you can, or reduce the brightness if you can't get away.

when wearing a long sleeved shirt, how many of you do the very top button up when you're wearing a tie?
Honestly, it doesn't really matter. Especially when you're wearing a tie, nobody notices (because the tie covers it). I'm a girl (so I don't typically wear ties) but most people like to be able to breathe and be comfortable. I never button the top button unless the shirt is loose without it.
So really, it's up to you. If your collar looks sloppy without it buttoned (and if that actually MATTERS, like if you're going to be interviewed for a job) then button it. You can always loosen it when you leave, right? But if you're dressed up for, say, a lacrosse game at school and have to wear a shirt & tie, nobody's gonna care that you didn't button your shirt, yaknow? Plus button-down shirts look nice (in my opinion) when the top's unbottoned.

is there a way to "update" your phone quickly to find service? sometimes i'll have analog service, and it'll take a while to find digital [even though i know i'm in a place that has it.] anything- calling something, certain buttons to press, etc.? just curious. i'll provide more info if needed.
What plan do you have? *228 with Verizon phones updates your roaming capabilities :)
Hello. I was wondering if anyone has read The War Of The Worlds book by H.G. Wells If anyone has, and they might know the answers to any of these three questions please let me know. It'd really help me out. Thank you!!
1. What historical disaster does the narrator refer to in the book?
2. When the martians died, where was the message sent to first?
3. What technology was gained from the martians?
If no one has read the book, or knows the answers to these, do you know of any websites where I'd be able to ask people who have actually read the book? If you do, please let me know. I really need help with this!!
You'll be much better off actually reading the book yourself. You'll get a lot more out of it.
If you're too lazy to do that, just Google "The War of the Worlds H.G. Wells summaries" and you'll get anything you need. We're not here to do your homework for you.
i heard it's not good to tan with contacts because they could melt, is this true?
They won't melt, but your eyes'll get really dry after awhile. Also, if you're tanning outside, you might end up swimming, right? And you can lose contacts if you swim with them in, and getting water in your eyes will probably irritate them.

Ok, my boyfriends birthday was like 2 days ago and like he's having a party in two weeks. At his party, they are having a pool, which means swimming suits :( And like, i'm definitely not fat or anything, but i have love handles, like really bad. And i know that i cant get completely rid of them at all in like 2 weeks, but i would definitely like to minimize or hide them and the little bit of fat on my back, cause i dont have any thing besides bikinis. What should i do?
Cut out all soda and all sweets. Run everyday and do Pilates.
& at the party, wear your bathing suit with confidence, and have fun. Your boyfriend'll be overjoyed to just HAVE you there and isn't going to care about how you look the way you are right now- he's the one dating you, right? He'll be happy just to see you in a swimsuit. Just go and have a good time!
:)
ok im 13/f and i am in love with Daniel Radclife 9 the guy who plays Harry Potter in the Harry potter films.) now i dont want you to think that this is a teenage crush, because it isnt, im seriously in love with this man.
anyway, i talk about him all the time, and i annoy my friends with him. i take a whole bunch of pictures of him from magazines and glue them onto a big poster board and i just look at him and think about how cute and funny he is. i cant even sleep sometimes because i always think about him. i annoy my family and friends with him and im tired of everyone thinking that all i care about is daniel radcliffe, so how do i stop thinking about him and talking about him all the time? please help me!
Thanks
Shelby
You can't possibly love him you've never met him before. Normal teenage obsession. He's cute, yeah.
Find a real guy you actaully know to channel your obsession into. He might even notice you, seeing as you know him and all, and he's not busy riding horses naked.

quotes on highschool? :)
"The best four years of your life. On the other hand, they're also the four best years of your life"
You can also Google search for quotes specific to your class's graduating year.
Is there any type of system or memory hook (I heard someone talking about that once)I could use for memorizing stuff, like lists and things like that. Some way I could memorize things faster and remember them. Some sort of trick or link system.
Mnemonic devices. To remember the plants, people used to used My Very Educated Mother just Served Us Nine Pizzas. [Mercury, Venus, Earth, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, Neptune, Pluto] Now it;'s something different. Nachos, or something.
You can use this technique for pretty much anything. Once the answers for a multiple choice test were BCBAB. My friend was retaking the test and we came up with the phrase "Babies Can Bounce and Crawl" Long story; it's better than the dead baby jokes we were tossing around AND he could remember it. Anything you can easily remember works.
Also, studying in short bursts is better than one long cram session the night before.
Good luck! =]
what does it really mean...
"minute man"
???
Baypath Reg. Voc. Tech High School's mascot. Also a guy who lasts about a minute before he orgasms.
You can imagine the taunting the sports teams get.
my firend has never had sex but she took 3 tests then 2 were positive is she pregnant??? Im 15/f
She could have gotten pregnant if a guy fingered her and had sperm on his hands.
Otherwise, her hormone levels are off for some other reason. That or she's carrying the Anti-Christ.
It's probasbly just the test. They're not 100% accurate. Why was she taking the test anyways?
Does Anyone know what percentage of americans like lemons? i need to know for a paper i'm writting. thanks in advance!
If you don't have any luck finding a statistic on Google, go to a public place and survey 100 people. Ask if they like lemons or not. There's your percentage :)
about 90% of the times when me and my boyfriend have hung out, i have asked him to. this makes me feel like he dosent like me or something like that. we have been dating for 6 months and this has happened the whole 6 months. should i talk to him, if so what should i say?
He probably doesn't think he NEEDS to, since you're always the one making plans. Talk to him and say, hey I love spending time with you. Could you come up with some ideas for a date sometime? It doesn't have to be extravagant, as long as I'm with you I'll be happy.
[smile and wait for response]
good luck =]
can anybody make me list how you know for sure someone is true friend and what not a true freind and how you know she or he not pretending be your friend or not thanks
Not so much a list, but a rule.
A true friend is there for you no matter what. They don't use you, or ONLY hang out with you when nobody else is around. They genuinely listen and care about you.
You just.. know.
I think I have an eating disorder. I don't really show it, but I feel extremely guilty when I go over 1000-1200 calories. I'm 5'9 and 136 lbs. If I eat something after 7 [which Im doing now and Im stressing out] or just eat a lot in general, I freak out. My mind goes crazy when I think about food. I cant stand eating sometimes. What can I do? I think everything I eat will make me gain weight. I have a fear of getting fat, most likely because I was chubby in elementary/middle school. I think Im ok now, but probably need some work. Any ideas on how to not feel guilty about it? My parents are getting me a yogurt parfee. Those aren't bad are they? Should I feel guilty for eating that? I'm not sure. It makes things a lot more stressful. Does this sound like Anorexia to you? I do skip meals but not intensely. Any opinions? Thanks!
I don't think you have anorexia. I think you're just worrying about gainig weight back. I'm the same way. Don't feel guilty about eating at ALL. eating after 7 is actually a good rule to follow, since you're less likely to get cramps from digesting and such.
Just stick to eating healthy, balanced meals. Incorporate exercise into your daily life, and drink plenty of water (since when you're dehydrated, you sometimes feel hungry). You'll start feeling better in no time.
hope I helped you! =]
i read in a magazine that if you put a dab of toothpaste of a pimple, it will dry out by morning.
i tried it once, and it started stinging a little. i'm just wondering if thats ok, because i don't want to make it worse..
so is it alright to use toothpaste?
help is appreciated.
It probably tingled because it was a) pentrating your skin, b) it was whitening toothpaste or c)both.
It's fine to use toothpaste. If you have really bad acne and get breakouts all the time, consider investing in a spot treatment for zits instead :)
theres a song i like but i dont know what its called it goes like this
"if were not meant to be then why does your hand match mine... ?" and it didnt work on google
thanks
That reminds me of Daniel Bedingfield's "If You're Not the One..." but don't kill me if I'm wrong. Even if that's not it, you might like it anyways haha.
does anyone know the approximate salary of a residential architect?
Depends on the area you're working in.
http://www.bls.gov/oco/ocos038.htm#earnings
Check out the rest of that site too. It's a great site for all aspects of a job and such.
& props on being intersted in architecture, by the way. =]
