Memorizing

Question Posted Wednesday May 2 2007, 8:12 pm

Is there any type of system or memory hook (I heard someone talking about that once)I could use for memorizing stuff, like lists and things like that. Some way I could memorize things faster and remember them. Some sort of trick or link system.

Associate them with something that you cannot forget. It's kind of hard to describe but ill try to explain anyways.

Lets say I'm trying to remember a list of hormones produced in the human body for a biology test and I need to memorize that testerone is an androgen.

I'll remember that testerone is made in the testicles, which is next to the anus. The anus begins with an A and so does androgen.

I know that's a crappy example but I hope you get the idea. Another way to memorize stuff is to put in messages.

For example if you need to remember order of operations in pre algebra, paranthesis, exponents, multiply, divide, addition, subtraction

Please Excuse My Dear Aunt Sally.

flashcards! i'm serious, they work for almost anytihng. write in different color markers so the question u get asked, u'll remember what color it was and then maybe ull remember what was on the card. It's really easy & works for lots of people. also, saying things aloud, and writing them continuously can help! =]

What really helps me is to say things n a rythm if i want to memorize it. almost like a song, and just repeat it when your bored or in the car, or something like that. Thats always worked for me.
Hope that helps!

what helps for me, is I have a photographic memory...
when I studied for my spelling test, I looked at all the words, than I went one-by-one and spelled them out lopud with my eyes close.
ex: I looked at number 1, lieutenant, just read it very slwly, repaeating the letters in my mind,

then I closed my eyes and thought ot what it looked like when I read it.

needless to say, I know how to spell lieutenant.

if I can't picture it, I usually can't remember it

not everyone is like that though so I don't know if this will help or not

Mnemonic devices. To remember the plants, people used to used My Very Educated Mother just Served Us Nine Pizzas. [Mercury, Venus, Earth, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, Neptune, Pluto] Now it;'s something different. Nachos, or something.

You can use this technique for pretty much anything. Once the answers for a multiple choice test were BCBAB. My friend was retaking the test and we came up with the phrase "Babies Can Bounce and Crawl" Long story; it's better than the dead baby jokes we were tossing around AND he could remember it. Anything you can easily remember works.

Also, studying in short bursts is better than one long cram session the night before.

Good luck! =]
