"Do not pity the dead, Harry. Pity the living, and, above all those who live without love" - Albus Dumbledore

Hi, I'm Laura. I'm a senior in college & I'm slowly deciding what I want to do with my life. I love Harry Potter, coffee, writing, and sleeping (amongst other things). I'll never claim to know everything, but I'm confident in my ability to help people with their problems. Feel free to send me an inbox question; I'll get back to you!

A few thoughts I've gathered from my teenage years (and being on this site for most of them!):
1. If you Google song lyrics, the song will come up 99% of the time.
2. Dress to fit your body type, and buy the size that fits. If you're a size 6, squeezing into a 4 won't make you look skinnier. It makes you look fat when you aren't.
3. You will never regret waiting to lose your virginity.
4. There is such a thing as a stupid question, but we're all allowed to ask them.

BU 2014 :)

wicked awesome conversations

^my forum, liven it up a little?

advice

How do you stay true to yourself?

In my opinion, you're staying true to yourself when you do new things in your life, but not things that contradict the things you believe in.

Like, you could watch a different genre of movie, hang out with new people, or eat a new food; that's fine. You're just expanding your horizons & gaining life experiences.

But if you're doing drugs or drinking, having sex before marriage, or anything else you absolutely swore to yourself you'd never do, you're NOT true to yourself anymore, and you're letting other people change you for the worse.

hope that answers your question! =]

I'm a ballerina, and my dance studio doesn't let you wear anything over your leotards (shorts, chiffon skirts, etc. NOTHING). Whenever I wear a tampon (i use playtex sport) with my tights/leotard it leaks onto the tights and you can see the blood around my inner thighs. It's embarassing. I can't wear a pad though because I can't wear underwear with my tights.

What can I do about this?

any advice will help.

Try getting some netural-toned underwear [like, not lime green] and wearing them under your tights, so you could wear a pad or liner. If you don't TELL anyone you're wearing underwear, I doubt they'll notice a thing.

I really want to get side swept bangs, but I don't know if i'll like it on me!

I think they are really cute and I want to take a risk... but i'm just really scared that it'll turn out bad and that i'll regret it. HELP!!! I keep chickening out!

Side-swept bangs look really good on almost everyone, especially if a professional cuts them for you. Plus, if they look bad, you can grow them out a LOT faster or style them like layers.

good luck!

i have a verizon cell phone, pretty simple. i'm not sure what model it is exactly, but it's an lg. i want to get the pictures onto my computer, but it didn't come with a cord. how can i get them onto my computer without having to download/sign up for anything? also, would it cost money? thankss

If you've got texting, send the picture to your email. [instead of a phone number, put your email address in] The only thing you'll be charged for is an out-of-network text [like the same as if you had sent a message to Cingular]

You all know that rumor going around about how ipod headphones can make your hearing worse. Is that true and even proven?? I use those headphones a lot but I don't have the volume very loud. Any ideas?? Thanks!

ANY headphones could make your hearing worse. It's just "iPod headphones" because SO many people have them. Plus, the new iPods have that option to make the maximum volume VERY loud, and if you listen like that for long periods, you could damage your ears.

But as long as you don't have the sound that loud, I'm confident you'll be fine.

Hey does anyone know any love songs?
Im going out of town for a few days and
i want to make my boyfriend a cd so he's
not so upset and everything? thanks! =]

Angel - Aerosmith
Heaven - Bryan Adams
Hanging by a Moment - Lifehouse
I'll Stand by You = The Pretenders
I'll Be - Edwin McCain
I Could Not Ask for More - Edwin McCain

There's a LOT more. When you make the CD, put some of your and his favorite songs in general- even if it's totally off-topic and random, he'll think of you when he hears it.

cute idea, good luck!

how do i put a small picture on my myspace like in my hero section?

Upload a small picture to a site like tinypic.com or photobucket.com [if you use photbucket they can actually make thumbnails for you].

Then, take that URL and put it in this code [leave the quotes in or it won't work]

all there is to it :)

ok so i need to find this guys myspace but i only know is first name and where he lives. but the place where he lives has a lot of zip codes. what should i do. :/

Guess his zipcode. Look up by display name - a lot of guys have their first name. Do you know his school? Look up by school & age. Ask friends if you know any of his. Look him up on facebook by first name [school & network shows up].

good luck!

About 3 weeks ago i noticed a spot ( not a mole ) on my nose, on my left nostril its not bumpy or anything its just a tannish circle its small what is it? does it have anything to do with the sun or something?

14/f

Probably a freckle. How are you so sure it's not a mole, though? You might want to get it looked at anyways, just to put your mind at ease.

If it starts to change shape, color, or hurt, etc. SEE A DERMATOLOGIST. Better safe than sorry.

So Im trying to stay fit and going on bike rides. Yet I dont want to get stopped by a cop saying its illegal for me to ride my bike. Anyways.. what is NJ law on helmets? :/ The guy at the store said 14 and under and then people keep saying 17 and under. WHICH IS IT?

Yeah, it's 17.

But really, wear a helmet regardless of the law. Think it looks dorky? Try having your head split open down the side or being brain damaged because you didn't want your hair messed up. I'll always wear a helmet, because they've most likely saved my life twice. Once, the helmet actually broke in two pieces and that would have been my skull. Don't wear kneepads, though. That DOES look really weird if you're older than like, five. And actually makes it harder to pedal.

Hey! I was wondering, what are some really cute and flirty perfumes? Also, can you tell me where i can find them. Prices arent an issue, as long as its under $100.

I just answered this question [literally 30 seconds ago] so I'll copy/paste.

Any perfume's nice as long as it's not overpowering. Go to a perfume counter [Macy's and Sephora come to mind] and smell the testers until you find one that you absolutely LOVE. Wear just a spray or two [I do one to my neck, then spray it in the air once and walk through it, since the smell lingers in your hair longer] and leave it at that.

I'm a huge fan of Adidas Moves and Victoria's Secret Heavenly. And also many scents from Bath and Body Works [body splash though]. Hollister has a couple nice ones too, I have to confess.

Everyone has their preferences, so find one that you adore and wear it everyday. A guy will remember you by your scent that way [maybe, if they're smelling your neck a lot]

when shaving your legs are you sposed to shave opposite the hair is growing or the way hair is growing and why?

I shave in the opposite direction. It's easier, cuts the hair closer to the surface of the skin, and it's less awkward. It can irritate very sensitive skin, so moisturize as soon as you can.

But if shaving in the same direction works better for you, then do it! Everyone's different, and shaving a certain way may be more comfortable for you. Do whatever irritates your skin the least.

sorry if its the wrong category

how can you get rid of split ends?
how can you prevent them?

THANKS
=]

1. Trim them. You can't permanently fix them, but there's temporary fixes, like split-end mender or a dab of olive oil.

2. Prevent them by using moisturizing shampoos and conditioner, using protecting sprays, creams, etc in your hair, and minimizing how many appliances you use on your hair- blowdryers, curling irons, straighteners, etc.

When you apply for a college, when they look at your grades etc. what is your GPA? I was just wondering...

GPA is your grade point average. You find it by averaging all your final grades [I believe; some colleges may average each term, but I doubt it].

Like, your GPA for the year, they'd calculate by adding together all the grades for all your classes, then dividing by the number of classes. A lot of higher-level classes are graded at different weights- an honors history class, for example, may add 10 points to your final average for the purpose of calculating your GPA.

hope I helped! :)

ok so right now i feel like my mom totaly doesnt trust me right now and it pisses me off because everytime i ask to hangout with my friends or something she thinks were doing bad stuff and i know that she thinks i did some bad stuff because the chcik i was hanging out with does that stuff but i'm trying to stop doing stuff and change my life but everytime i try it's like she just makes me want to do more stuff like that because she thinks i'm doing stuff and i know i shouldnt want to do bad stuff like drugs or alcohal but i mean right now in my life i feel like i can trust anyone like i barely have any TRUE friends and like i'm trying to change but people wont let me what am i supposed to do

Well, if you're doing this stuff, obviously your mother is right. She's trying to help you, and you're trying to change. Why not let her? And stop hanging out with this so-called friend that's making you do things you don't want to do- people like that aren't your friends. Hang around people who are the kind of person YOU want to be- their behavior rubs off on you, whether you'd admit it or not.

Let your mother know that you want to change, and you want her to help you.

sry if wrong catagory...

is sun in permenant my friend says it is but i dont think so?! THANKS!

It depends on your hair- it IS bleaching your hair with sunlight, so the effects COULD be permanent, but I've always seen it fade rather quickly after summer.

Like, your hair gets lighter in summer anyways, right? You don't end up with roots from the lightening in the fall, right? Same kinda thing. Sun-in just helps it along.

So I really needa lose weight. I'm not obese or fat but I'd be happier if I lost some weight. So my goal is around 20 pounds before school starts. Please help me...I needa know some exercizes I could do, foods I could eat. And any1 know whether jenny craig realy works?
Thanks anyways...
Btw I'm 15/f

Okay, Jenny Craig, Weight watchers, groups like that, yeah they work. But all they do is tell you to eat a balanced diet, not to completely deprive yourself of anything completely. And the meetings are there for support and stuff. They work well, but are expensive, so only use them as a last resort.

Focus on things that are totally healthy- fruits and vegetables, whole-grain bread [or at least not refined flour white bread] 1% or skim milk, etc. Remember that lowfat stuff still has calories, and often has an insane amount of sugar. Be smart about what you're eating. Full-fat dressing won't kill you, since you only use 2 tablespoons. Half a carton of icecream is too much- limit yourself to the occassional scoop of whatever kind you want [you'll be less likely to pig out if you don't deprive yourself]

Exercise is the biggest thing. Develop a routine that works for you, but don't make it routine. Makes sense? Think of exercise as a way of improving yourself- and not a daily, 20-30 minute chore. Try to do SOMETHING everyday- walk or run across town, do Pilates, do 25 crunches and pushups every commercial break. As long as you're moving, you'll accomplish what you want.

This site is great; check it out and use the calculators to determine your ideal body weight/ resting metabolic rate [a rough estimate of how many calories you need each day to function] and a calorie counter [but don't get paranoid about it]

good luck!

5"1, 85 pounds. If I gained 10 pounds in muscle, how would it look different than if I gained 10 pounds of fat by eating cake and french fries and deep oil-fried Twinkies? Would I look slimmer?

You'd probably look a lot healthier, since eating cake, french fries, and deep fried Twinkies will most likely make you puke your brains out at some point. Getting sick never looked good on anyone.

Working out is a better route- you'll improve your health just by moving, and you won't be eating crap in the process. And yea, you'd probably look slimmer, because if you gained 10 pounds of fat, who knows where it'd all end up, right?

:)
