Sperm can survive outside of the body for no more than about an hour. In general, if the semen is still wet it may well have live sperm.
Once sperm enter the female body, however, their lifespan increases. Inside the vagina, sperm can only survive for about six hours, as vaginal secretions contain acids that break the sperm down pretty rapidly. Vaginal infections or the presence of a spermicide may destroy sperm, and not allow it to reach the fallopian tubes.
Once sperm travels through the cervix, however, its lifespan increases even more dramatically. Sperm may survive in the Fallopian tubes for as long as 7 days, but generally survives for around 3 to 5 days. This means that fertilization can occur even if the sperm are deposited as much as a full week prior to ovulation.

Ambulances go lots of places without the sirens on.
They could be coming back from a call & returning to
their post. They wouldn't have lights on either.
They might be going to dinner. When on call they must have the ambulance ready at all times. No lights on.
There are also times when they are simply transporting someone from a nursing home to the hospital or returning a nursing home patient from the hospital back to the nursing home. Might run lights in route to nursing home.
Sometimes they run lights but no sirens until they get close to their destination. This happens only if they aren't enroute to a major emergency.
I know this because I am a former ambulance driver. :)

(17/f) Okay so since I was 12 I have been diagnosed with depression. Throughout the years I have been put on medications but I always get the strangest side affects, so I really don't like taking them. I used to be suicidal like 2 years ago but not anymore. Though I still do suffer from depression on a daily basis. I'm getting sick of always feeling like this though and I really don't want to resort to taking medication again. Any tips on what I can do so I don't have to feel like this day to day? Anything is greatly appreciated :) (link)

Talk to your doctor about it. Tell him/ her you would like to try doing without the medication.
Don't try to handle it on your own. The main reason being that some meds shouldn't just be stopped all at once. Some you may need to be tapered off of to help prevent worse side affects.
You also need to consider that the reason you no longer feel suicidal, could be a result of that medication. So please go off it with medical supervision.

You don't. You would have to act like a real jerk for that to happen anyway. Might as well just break up and be done with it.:)
There is no reason you have to be mean about it. Just tell her you think that you are to young to be in a serious relationship. Nothing against her at all, you just think it isn't working out.
Be nice. Stay friendly after (especially when her friends are around). If she chooses to be mean about it herself, then she will be the one who looks like the jerk. Not you.

There is no way to make a girl love you. She either does or she doesn't. You don't want to be the guy who takes anthers girlfriend. Just be friendly with her, be a friend. Be patient.
13 is just a little young to be boyfriend/ girlfriend anyway. No offense intended, but you can't "date" in the traditional sense. So what she has with this other guy is not a big deal. Be a friend and when she is available, you'll be the one she turns to.

Okay they didnt really explain how this work so my question is if you get the depo(birth control)shot every 3months and you have unprotected sex and let the guy(you know)in you. How high is the risk of pregnancy?

The depo shot works just like the birth control pill. Having unprotected sex should not result in a pregnancy.
Keep in mind that to be safe you should wait at least 24 hours after your first shot before having unprotected sex.
Of course having your partner use a condom is the only way to prevent an STD. Birth control does not protect you from those. :)

Alright I'm 16, male, and for the last month or two I've not been able to get sexually excited. It used to happen a lot, at least twice a day. Now I'm lucky if I can get once a week. What's happened to me? How can I get my mojo back? I haven't talked to my parents about it because it's quite embarrassing for me. Some causes you might consider:
Are you or anyone in your family diabetic?
This can cause problems in males and can be
helped by your doctor.
It can be caused by relationship problems.
Depression and meds used for depression or other health problems can cause it.
Drinking alcohol or using other drugs can cause
problems.
Stress or lack of sleep.
It could also be caused by performance anxiety.
New relationship for instance, afraid of being caught etc.
The best advice is to relax and try not to worry about it. If it continues, you may have to see a doctor. They won't give info about your visit to your parents. So don't be afraid to discuss the problem with your doctor.

I've been trying to masturbate lately, but not having much success. I was given some good advice to look up techniques online, which I would like to do. However I'm afraid that my parents will look at my internet history and be angry. I've heard had an encounter with them looking at my history before, but something makes me nervous about it. Is it wrong to be researching for that sort of thing? My parents aren't overly religious or extremely strict. But I do know they both expect me to wait to have sex until marriage, but I don't think that ties into masturbating because its not "giving myself" away too soon, or putting me at risk of STDs and pregnancy.

With proper use condom failure rate, according to statistics is 6-26%.
Proper use includes having the condom on at any time the penis is near the vagina. No inserting the penis without it just for a minute to see what it feels like. :)
If the condom breaks it will be noticeable when you look at it. It is possible it could have just a small hole in it, but not real common.

16/f my friend tells me that i need to get my tonsils out. they are very large, they never used to bother me but now i always feel them, they are like golf balls in my throat.i have a cold right now and my tonsils hurt al the way up to my ears. it is hard to sleep at night because it hurts and sometimes it feels like i have limited oxygeb enteering my luncs. should i get them out, please help ps: they usualy only hurt when i am sick which i am very often. thanks (link)

They used to take tonsils out with no problem when I was a kid. Removing mine cured years of constant earaches! Now they prefer NOT to remove them.
However, my son had swollen tonsils. They didn't ever really hurt him, unless, like you he was sick.
Eating crackers or things like that could make them bleed though. He also breathed even while awake as if he were snoring. When I explained this to an ear, nose and throat doctor, he agreed to remove them. I believe at that time he told me they don't remove them anymore unless they had seen a patient several times for problems. But, since I was requesting they remove my sons and had good reasons for the request he did it.
So, my advice is that you discuss your tonsil problem with your parents. Set up an appointment with an ENT doctor & request your tonsils be removed. More than likely they will do it. I'm willing to bet you will be sick less often too.

When did sex become so bad? I get that teenagers shouldn't just sleep around and pregnancy & STDs are a problem. But why do parents go to great lengths to make their teens feel guilty about wanting and/or having sex? If its so natural and if everyone feels the need at some point, shouldn't it be talked about more openly and embraced in a better manner?
I'm 16, thinking about having sex for the first time, but I keep finding notes from my parents saying, "Absolutely no sex. Wait until your married."
I'm not religious, but I'm not a bad person. (All A's, no drinking or drugs) So why do my parents make me feel awful for even thinking about it?

Sex in itself is not "bad". I think it takes a certain maturity level for people to have sex that teens lack, just by nature of their age. Every time you have sex you not only risk the STDs you mention but you also risk pregnancy. No parent would wish that outcome on their teenager. Teens are not able to support a family on their own. Most parents of teens have been there done that and do not want to raise both a teen and that teens offspring. They want to retire someday and not start the whole process of raising a child again.
I think sex should be talked about more openly between parents and children. I think a lot of parents, and probably teens as well, are embarrassed to talk about sex with each other.
I believe the lack of talking is probably the biggest reason teen pregnancy has always been a problem. If parents are not open enough to speak about sex, and teens are afraid to bring it up, proper ways to protect against pregnancy and STDs
do not get talked about. You are absolutely right,
it needs to be talked about more openly in families.
If your parents are leaving you those kinds of notes, perhaps you need to leave one of your own.
Leave a note with one word on it. Why?
I was very honest with my daughter. I didn't say wait until your married. I did tell her not to have sex with any guy that she WOULN'T marry should she get pregnant, or with any guy who wouldn't marry her if she did. I am still old fashioned enough to believe parents belong together. :) You know, it worked for us. That simple rule made her wait for that right guy.
She actually gave thought to it instead of sleeping with every guy who came along. I didn't
say "don't do it". I gave her some guidelines instead. Sex isn't wrong, it just needs rules.
So, as a parent, I think the simple answer to your question is fear. I don't think they intend to make you feel bad. They just don't want you to make a mistake you can't take back.
If they won't talk to you, sit them down and make them listen to you. That first step is really hard for a lot of parents and teens. Once its done though it will get easier. :)

Most likely it is butane lighter. The same lighter fluid used in those disposable lighters.
You can't use zippo fluid in them. With zippo fluid you get a pad thing soaking wet with the fluid. Butane lighter fluid comes in a skinny can and you
shoot it into the lighter...hard to explain, but not at all the same.
I personally prefer butane. Zippo makes smokes taste nasty. Ya I know...LOL

If they think you have a thyroid problem I hope they did blood work to find out if you do. They should have.
If you have a thyroid problem, they will give you medication to control it. Dieting will not change the situation. Once you get on medication, it will regulate your thyroid and no special diet will be needed.
I have hypothyroidism so I am speaking from personal experience.

I have a older sister who I cannot quite understand why she acts the way she does. She is 25 and has always lived with my mother. She has always had a problem with her finances. She cant seem figure out what kind of a career she wants or what she wants to do. She owes almost everyone money and the money she does earn from her waitress job gets blown on booze, clothes, food and fun. She seems to make spur of the moment decisions and is very easily influenced by freinds who dont have responsibilities like her. The same kind of friends who live with their parents and have absolutely no obligations. I almost feel like she has no conscience about spending money when she knows she has debts to be paid. Sometimes i feel she has the potential to be a homeless person! This is just a tip of things, there is so much more detail but it would take days to explain. Please help! I need to know what i should do to help her and how i can get through to her! (link)

Been there and done this with my son. What we did takes time, causes hard feelings and is painful for a mother...but it works.
She is irresponsible. She has absolutely no incentive not to be. She can stay with mom and spend her money all on herself.
She needs to be given 30 days to find a new home of her own. She needs to pay her own bills. If she doesn't pay the lights, she sits in the dark until she does. If she doesn't pay the water...she will stink until she does. Evidently there is no incentive like those two to get a person to pay their bills.
The hard part for a parent or sibling is NOT to help them out. Even if they end up homeless and in a shelter.
Now my son is 30 and he and his family struggle but they do good now and I am very proud of him. I would help him out now because he is being responsible and doing his best.
On the other hand my father in law doles out money to my sister in law all the time. Approaching 50 years old she can't get through even one week without borrowing money to exist.
His health isn't the best. Just what is SHE going to do when he dies? She hasn't ever been taught to live within her means.
So, while it sounds cruel and mean, I personally don't consider it to be. I can die knowing my son will get by. That may be how you'll have to get your mom to step up and handle the problem. Its very hard to do.

The first thing you need to do is to stop calling this step sister your best friend. She isn't. Friends do not interfere with each others love life.
She sounds like one who may have a bit of a crush on her step brother. She evidently has something on him if he is going to let her rule his love life. If not, then he is a bit of a wimp.
Either way it seems they are a pair to avoid.
