If they think you have a thyroid problem I hope they did blood work to find out if you do. They should have.

If you have a thyroid problem, they will give you medication to control it. Dieting will not change the situation. Once you get on medication, it will regulate your thyroid and no special diet will be needed.

I have hypothyroidism so I am speaking from personal experience.

Without a doubt, the best thing you can do is either take an iodine supplement or eat an adequate amount of seafood.
You may live in a region where seafood isn't abundant, so if that's the case, take a supplement. The thyroid gland is powered by iodine. The above advice applies to hypothyroidism only.

Symptoms of hypothyroidism are fatigue, weakness, weight gain or increased difficulty losing weight, coarse/dry hair, dry/rough pale skin, hair loss, cold intolerance (can't tolerate the cold like those around you), muscle cramps and frequent muscle aches, constipation, depression, irritability, memory loss, abnormal menstrual cycles, and decreased libido.

ALTHOUGH IF YOUR ISSUE IS HYPERTHYROIDISM, DO NOT TAKE MY ADVICE. ASK YOUR DOCTOR.
If you're not sure, hyperthyroidism is characterized by elevated body temperature, sweating, weight loss, nervousness, insomia, light or absent menstrual periods, fast heart rate, trembling hands, muscle weakness, warm moist skin, hair loss, staring gaze, breathlessness, and fatigue.
