I don't want to take medication anymore, any tips?

(17/f) Okay so since I was 12 I have been diagnosed with depression. Throughout the years I have been put on medications but I always get the strangest side affects, so I really don't like taking them. I used to be suicidal like 2 years ago but not anymore. Though I still do suffer from depression on a daily basis. I'm getting sick of always feeling like this though and I really don't want to resort to taking medication again. Any tips on what I can do so I don't have to feel like this day to day? Anything is greatly appreciated :)

go to a coping psychiatrist and they can teach you how to live better without meds over time. also drink some flavored water when u feel weird it kinda helps. im only down to the three meds i diarly need now, its helped soooooooo much :)

Find something you're good at that you can do when you're feeling down. I write nonstop, and it has helped my depression a lot. Whether it's drawing, writing, photography, dance, or whatever else you may be into, it will give you something to do and will serve as a therapeutic type thing for your depression. I never wanted to take pills either, so I just try to keep my spirits high with happy music. If I get upset, I'll watch a movie, write, or talk to a friend. At seventeen years old, I'm sure your friends can relate to you with you how you feel to some extent. Find a friend that wants to have a buddy system. When you're down, talk to him/her. When he/she is down, have them talk to you. By doing this, you'll never feel as though you're alone. Also, exercising and eating healthy is important to make yourself feel better all-around. If you're unhealthy physically, it greatly increases your chances of being mentally unhealthy.

I know exactly how you feel... Side effects of anti depressants are sometimes hard to deal with...

I beat my depression by doing things i was passionate about. It happened to be writing. I love to write, so whenever i felt like the world was getting on top of me i wrote... Not about anything in particular... Just what was bothering me or what was clouding up my head...

So you need to figure out something you're passionate about and use it to your advantage when you're feeling particularly down.

Take walks to clear your mind. Eat well, exercise... Talk to someone about how you're feeling... Having someone as a support person is always a help...

Stick with the medication until a doctor decides what should be done with dosages or changes. I know you don't want to but it's the wisest choice. Why? put simply if you go off of it you could spiral down even worse or back to suicidal. You aren't suicidal now so the medication is helping on that level.

If you're feeling miserable all the time with no relief than you've got to speak up to your psychiatrist and be truthful that nothing is cutting it.

They will change things around for you. Let him know how badly the side-effects are affecting you. Once he/she does blood levels, they'll fix the dosages and maybe even come up with something far better.

People with mental health issues (and I'm not leaving myself out) should NEVER no matter how they feel mentally or physically go off any medication without a doctor to bring them down and off of it. You can screw up your stability instantly and not get back to where you were or even better easily.

I'm not sure how bad your depression is but you may need medication for life and you may not. Ask your doctor about alternatives if there are any. He'll fix the dosages as I said earlier which will result in something better. He can't do it without your input or honesty on how you truly feel inside every day.

Talk to your doctor about it. Tell him/ her you would like to try doing without the medication.

Don't try to handle it on your own. The main reason being that some meds shouldn't just be stopped all at once. Some you may need to be tapered off of to help prevent worse side affects.

You also need to consider that the reason you no longer feel suicidal, could be a result of that medication. So please go off it with medical supervision.
