I havnent been able to sleep very well for the past week, and when I do it's maybe 5 hours a night with me waking up every 45 minutes in that time span. What should I do to get some sleep?

So again deal with your stress find any way to tackle it,NO giving up thats your life make it happen now picture if you dont fix it what will happen to your relationships health wealth happiness.
MrWombat answered Wednesday August 6 2014, 1:50 am: Have you tried melatonin?
Actually - before going there, are you taking any medication at all? Antidepressants interfere with sleep. If you guzzle tea/coffee/energy drinks all day, then you really don't need to look any further for the source of your problem. [ MrWombat's advice column | Ask MrWombat A Question ]
This can be complicated. Is there something in your mind that you keep thinking about? Are you stressing over something? Maybe try taking a bath before you go to sleep. That should give you a good nights sleep? Some hot herbal tea with no caffeine can also be a good idea? Some medicinal herbs help too? This all depends on your age....
Pittguy answered Sunday August 3 2014, 11:03 am: I'm sorry to hear about your sleep troubles. I know that this can cause a lot of problems but am pretty sure I have a few ideas that might be helpful.
First off, let's address the issue of you constantly walking instead of sleeping for a long period of time. My guess is that this has to do with the environment in your bedroom. Are you hot or cold when you wake up? Maybe you need to adjust the temperature in your room. Another issue is that your mattress may need replaced. Depending upon the quality of the mattress, even really good ones are often only expected to last about a decade. Some cheaper ones are only intended to be used for a few years at most.
As far as getting to sleep in the first place, one old remedy is to drink a glass of warm milk before bed. I know some people who are real advocates of this practice.
Another is to read something that you don't find particularly interesting. This can cause you eyes to grow tried and help you get into a restful state.
Yet another thing you can try is having a little bit of ambient noise in the area when you are going to bed. This may sound silly but something with a soft hum or vibrating noise can help people relax and fall asleep. When my brother was a kid, the sound of the vacuum cleaner would put him out like a light - true story.
Last but not least, you might want to seek out natural tees like Yogi Bedtime Tea or Celestial Seasonings Sleepytime Extra Tea.
AdviceMistress answered Sunday August 3 2014, 5:29 am: Are you stressed out about something? I would definitely talk to your doctor about that. I was just diagnosed with a disease so my sleep patterns are off entirely. I take melatonin which is an all natural supplement. However you should definitely make a call to your doctor. Good luck!! pseudophun answered Thursday July 31 2014, 1:21 pm: First thing's first...
You can try Melatonin. It's over the counter, and totally natural. It's secreted by your system to make you sleep anyway.
If that fails... Try Zquil, by the makers of Nyquil.
If THAT fails... see your doctor. It doesn't seem that important, but an irregular sleep pattern that doesn't respond to over the counter aids can lead back to all kinds of problems... Both ones it causes and ones it's a symptom of.
The doc will either prescribe you something, or ask you to try a sleep study for a night, so they can run tests.
If they give you sleeping pills, be sure to take as prescribed, cuz those things can definitely kill you. [ pseudophun's advice column | Ask pseudophun A Question ]
shmeegs91 answered Thursday July 31 2014, 9:11 am: If you have a tv or any other electronics in your room - take them out, I can't stress this enough, even if it is off you need to remove it. If you enjoy tea, have some peppermint and especially chamomile tea will help almost like a natural sleeping pill. Read a book, a real book. Make sure your room is free of clutter a messy room calls for depression and lack of sleep due to the subconscious irritation it develops. Lavender scent spray on your pillow. Have a nice temperature room, cold rooms cause nightmares. Clean your sheets and bed spread and pillows. Nothing calls for a greater nights sleep when your room looks good and your bed feels nice to sleep in. Go for a walk before bed about an hour, or some other type of exercise. Do a puzzle before bed, it will make your eyes tired, and most of all listen to your body when you are tired. You will know, so stop fighting it. If you put your phone away, laptop, tv, ipod, whatever, out of your room It will make a difference. TURN OFF THE LIGHTS. :). If you need a night light, which there is nothing wrong with that, find something that glows softly, or get fish. A fish tank with a light will sooth you and help you relax. I also listen to relaxation hypnosis or ASMR before bed which makes me sleepy as well...A trick I do (this is going to sound weird) because I have a very hard time sleeping as well, once you're in bed, raise one of your arms in the air, and leave it there as long as you can, with your eyes closed. It is weird but helps me. Also if you take a nice shower or bath before bed and rinse with a few seconds of cold water, you will want nothing more than to warm up in your bed and the warmth with rush through your body making you feel tired as well. I hope you got some ideas? [ shmeegs91's advice column | Ask shmeegs91 A Question ]
christina answered Thursday July 31 2014, 8:11 am: This is going to be an awful suggestion, but this is what I do. Go to the supermarket and buy Non Habit Forming Sleep-Aid Pills. You get like 48 to a box for $3 (they're store brand usually) and you take 2 a night before bed. It'll help you sleep through the night, and you'll sleep well. Ersted answered Monday July 28 2014, 6:57 pm: Sleep disturbances can happen for a wide variety of reasons. Without knowing the exact reason you're having this problem, it's difficult to go thorough advice on what to do about it...
But that being said, in general, I would suggest reducing what stress you can from your day, or avoid being stressed around the time you intend to go to sleep. Take some time to unwind and relax, maybe 1 to 2 hours before bed.
Try not to think about things you did or need to do right before or during your attempt to sleep.
Chamomile tea before bed can help you relax and sleep if the cause is not severe. The fresher the better, or you can try to make it extra strong with 2 tea bags in a cup instead of just one.
Sometimes sleep can be difficult if you tend to be sedentary throughout the day, for instance, if you have a desk job. In which case it can be helpful to get rigorous, exhausting exercise immediately before bed, or tire your eyes by reading a book.
White noise is also helpful to some. You could try running a fan near your bed.
Other than all this, try to consider WHY you might be having trouble staying asleep and see what you can do to eliminate that problem. [ Ersted's advice column | Ask Ersted A Question ]
Sexysweetie answered Monday July 28 2014, 4:14 pm: Its sounds like A. You are either way to stressed I would make a list of things you are thinking about and try and release some stress by working out during the day. Or do things until you feel like if your head was on the pillow you would be sleeping then go to bed Or B. You may have insomnia so I would check with my doctor. RTGMC answered Monday July 28 2014, 11:27 am: Is there anything that has changed in that week such as changing your bedroom in anyway. I know it sounds strange but this can make a difference. If it is caused by stress perhaps something has made you anxious.Writing a diary or talking to someone. If this doesn't work try listen to music as you sleep or have sleeping tablets if this continues go see your doctor as there could be an underlying issue causing you to have lack of sleep.
Hope this helped

ieatjello answered Sunday July 27 2014, 4:03 pm: Maybe you can try drinking a warm cup of milk at night before you go to bed. Normally that helps for me. You can try to tire yourself out more by reading right before you go to sleep or have physical exercise during the day. Just find something that can help you relax and be stress-free, or have a beditme ritual (like for me, cup of warm milk, read, turn on some peaceful music, and sleep). If this problem goes on for another week, I think you should see a doctor about it, but you are most likely just stressed out. [ ieatjello's advice column | Ask ieatjello A Question ]
sillyrob answered Sunday July 27 2014, 3:05 pm: Lower your caffeine intake, don't eat within like 2 hours of bed, exercise, don't smoke crack, try natural crap like tea and valerian root, and if all else fails, ask your doctor person to see if maybe you have sleep apnea or something equally gay. xx-me-xx answered Thursday July 24 2014, 3:25 pm: Hey there!
First of all, you're a champ if you can survive the day with that little sleep!
I think you should probably do some excercise or anything that can tire you out, then just take a warm bath and when you're most relaxed drink some Chamomile Tea. It's known for it's anti-anxiety effects and for most people, it can make them sleepy.
So tire yourself out, then relax, sit back, have some tea and hopefully you'll be able to get a good night's rest.
OctoberBeat answered Thursday July 24 2014, 1:21 pm: You can try doing some light slow breathing and yoga stretches for 5 minutes, to ensure muscle relaxation.
Try reading something boring, or at the very least something that doesn't peak your interest. It will tire your eyes and send you off to snoozeville!
You can also try organic herbal teas that help relax and sooth tension, as well as induce sleep. Some good sleep-aid herbs include: Chamomile, Valerian, Lavender, St.John's Wart and Peppermint.
You can find already prepared sleep-aid tea mixes in your local grocery stores. Or shop online.
NOTE: Always read the contents and talk to a physician before trying anything new, to avoid food allergies and any side affects.
adviceman49 answered Thursday July 24 2014, 5:27 am: I'm not a doctor so I cannot give you a medical diagnoses for why you're having trouble sleeping. For a medical diagnoses you need to see your doctor for an examination.
In general terms trouble sleeping is usually caused by some type of stress or trauma. You haven't given your age so I have no idea what kind of stress you might be under or trauma you may have witnessed. Trauma that is witnessed is a mental trauma and the stress it causes is generally called anxiety.
Then their are the normal stresses of life such as work, school and family that at times seem to pile upon you . At night when you are trying to sleep these stress won't allow you to relax enough to get and stay asleep.
Left untreated this type of stress can cause something called clinical depression. In teenagers it is called teenage depression. No matter what descriptive term is used you really don't want to allow the stress to take you this far.
My advice is to see a doctor. If it is stress that is keeping you up it is just as serious as any other illness. If is not stress but some other problem your doctor should be able to find the problem upon examination or at the very least treat the symptoms.
