A few thoughts I've gathered from my teenage years (and being on this site for most of them!):
1. If you Google song lyrics, the song will come up 99% of the time.
2. Dress to fit your body type, and buy the size that fits. If you're a size 6, squeezing into a 4 won't make you look skinnier. It makes you look fat when you aren't.
3. You will never regret waiting to lose your virginity.
4. There is such a thing as a stupid question, but we're all allowed to ask them.

How come on YouTube when people play and sing along to acoustic versions of a song with the guitar, the word "cover" is almost always in the title? What does this mean?

Covers are when it's not the original version of the song. i.e. Van Halen re-doing a song by the Kinks [the title escapes me, it was something like You Really Got Me?], or the Ataris re-doing Don Henley's "The Boys of Summer"


It basically tips you off in advance that it's not the original version of the song.

this summer i really want to make a whole new me!!

right now i have blonde/brown hair and about shoulder length, layers, and i normally part it in the middle

so yeah... i want to make a whole new me

i want-

dye my hair completely brown
let it grow out (maybe underneath my breasts length)
keep my layers
get sidebangs
part my hair to the left or the right


as for make-up, i normally wear a gold shimmery eyeshadow up until my brow bones, then blush, mascara, black eyeliner, and some lip gloss


my mom tells me i wear too much make-up... how should i make the make-up less visible but still make me pretty?

do these changes seem good to you? if not, please give me tips

What you want to do with your hair sounds really good. Get two boxes of dye [only open one at a time though] incase you run out, because if you miss a spot with blonde it'll be obvious, yaknow? Be careful with shades. Try a light brown to start, and go darker after a month if you like it. Growing it out is easier if you don't straighten it much, it'll break off less and be healthier.


As for you makeup, yeah I'd say you wear a lot. I haven't SEEN you, so I can't say if you look like a clown. Try easing up or eliminating the black eyeliner, and using a bit more mascara [top lashes only]. Put the gold shadow on only your lid, not all the way up. Apply blush sparingly on the apples of your cheeks. Lipgloss is fine, you can't really go wrong there.


I think the whole point of makeup is to enhance natural beauty and not fake yourself out. Try wearing NO makeup for a few days, then gradually adding one thing at a time back in. You'll be surprised how little you may actually need [and how much easier it is to not scrub it off every night!]

what's the difference between hives, poison oak, and poison ivy?? how do you get hives and what do they look like? what does poison oak & ivy look like?

Poison oak & ivy are usually a bubbly-looking rash that you get when you come in contact with the oil from the plants. Hives I typically associate with allergic reactions, it's a pinkish/reddish rash that shows up pretty quickly.

Tomorrow night my friend is having a pool party, and i really dont want to go swimming because im not comfortable being in a bathing suit. I dont know what to do. When peeople ask me why im not swimming im obviously not going to be like im insecure about the way i look in a bathing suit.Any ideas?


also im nervous becasue my friend hangs out with a different group of friends than me but since were close friends she obviously invited me and im only friends with like 7 people that are going . out of like 30. What should i do ?

Swim anyways, who cares? Plus, it's at night! Even better, right? You could always put a t-shirt on over your suit, but that'll get annoying. Just swim, why not?


As for people, talk to everyone! It's a perfect opportunity to meet new people. Plus it's a party, so everyone'll just be chillaxing [haha I love that word] and stuff, so you can just walk over and start a casual conversation [oh hey! you know _____? She goes to my school.. etc]

ok so i'm going to high school next year and i'm switching out of the school district and i have a myspace and you can add your school on there and so i wanted to add the school i'm going to on there so i can possibly meet some people that go there but i dont know how to start a conversation with anyone so any suggestions

Ask what the school's like, what teachers are best, what they like about it, etc.


I did the same thing- and compared to my sending school, BVT is HUGE. I asked upperclassmen how they figured out the layout and everything.


Oh, and no matter how threatening a school the size of a small town may seem, you'll be able to walk around with your eyes closed in two weeks, I promise.

Watch the games on TV [I'll assume baseball] and talk about the game the next day. Talk to him like you would any of your friends- don't think "ahh crap gotta impress him!" Just be yourself and he'll see you for who you are. Crazy, but true.

how do i erase files from a cd ill rate high

If it's a CD-R, you're probably stuck. I've figured out how to ADD stuff, but not erase. the disc is usually finalized when you burn something on it. If you've got something incriminating on it, run the CD over with a rolly chair a few times, scratch it up with a nail file or razorblade, and snap it in half. That should work just fine.


I'm willing to bet there's a way around the "finalized" step, though. If theymos doesn't answer this question, ask him directly to his inbox. If there's a way to do it, he probably knows :)

my ipod's screen is frozen, what can i do to unfreeze it?please help!

Hold down the center button and the MENU button [at the same time] until the Apple logo appears. That should do the trick.


If not, make sure the hold button isn't on [and it's slid ALL the way over] and that it's charged.

What are some inexpensive salon-quality hair products that I can pick up at a CVS in order to make my hair less frizzy and more straight? For example, something to put in either after showering, or before or after using a flat iron.

Suave makes knock-offs of matrix, redken, biolage, etc. I really like the sleek cream [the one in the orange tube]. I put it in my hair when it's damp [use a TINY dab] and towel-dry, air-dry, and straighten. I use Paul Mitchell serum too [Super Skinny] but that's more expensive, like $18-22. Garnier makes a Sleek& Shine Serum that works almost as well and it's only like, $5.


If your hair's still frizzy, finish it with more serum or cream on the ends [again, a tiny dab so your hair doesn't look greasy] and hairspray. This also makes your hairstyle last longer.

soo me and my bf have only been going out for a little more than week. we've made out and yeah i like him but when we made out i just didnt feel any chemistry. does that mean i dont rlly have strong feelings for him? i dont even think i really like him that much. should i break up with him or wait and see what happens? i wanna try to go for a month but idk if i should even bother. please give me the best advice you can. thank youu guys

If you like him, give him a chance. But if you're just staying with him to see if you "grow into" liking him, don't lead him on like that. Break it off before he becomes too attached, because you'll hurt him more by waiting awhile.

Hey im going to an amusement park soon and i really don't want to wear a bathing suit. I was thinking of just waering my bathing suit under and a t-shirt, do you think that would be okay? Also if i do that, then i wouldnt be allowed to go on any of the water rides because it is not permitted. I have very wide sides, so im not sure what to do. Any advice?

Either get a cover-up with no zippers or anything like that, that's made of bathing suit material, or get a bathing suit that covers more of your body. Or wear your bathing suit with confidence, and just go to the park and have a good time. You could always wear a [hopefully lightcolored] t-shirt until it's your turn on the ride, and just tie it to your arm. They sometimes let people do that on rides. But if you wear a shirt, you'll end up with some really intersting tan lines and your shoulders will be PALE. Whatever you decide, wear sunblock & reapply it at least once. Wrinkles don't compliment ANYONE.

What's the latest you can make your hair appointment?

Like say i make it on the day for a salon or the day before..will I make it?

It depends on the salon... a place in a small town [like mine] will be more likely to have a spot, or they'll squeeze you in somehow. Call anyways; it's worth a shot. But for something important, appointments should really be made in advance.

Ok. As a summer job I'm going to start baby sitting. I'm 15 years old and I have many recommendations. I taken 1 year of a babysitting/parenting class. How much should I charge?

Depends on how many kids, how well-behaved the kids are, and if you have to change diapers, feed them dinner, etc. Toddler terrors that rip your hair out I'll charge more for than, say, an angelic four-year-old who asks you to color with her and watches Dragon Tales.


I say six dollars an hour, per kid. If you've got two kids that both need your undivided attention, say $7 or $8 per hour. Three or more young kids [good luck with that], the parents KNOW it's a lot of work and won't mind paying even $10, especially if you're making dinner & changing diapers.


Usually the parents know the going rate, so don't even worry about it too much. If you walk in the house and notice that the front hall is a disaster, clean it when they're gone. Sometimes they'll pay extra for tidying things up a bit- and if not, they'll still really appreciate the effort & remember you NEXT time they need a sitter = more money.

I when over to my friends house, (A). She asked if it was ok if she smoked in front of me. I said no, it's ok, i guess. When she sis, i just stared. I've heard of smoking, duh, but never have I seen it two feet in front of me. So, stupidly I asked to try. (A) said no. I kept asking out of curiousity, knowing that it'll still hurt me. Finally, (A) said, ok. I tried it and it was terrible! I hated it. I started coughing and choking. Well, after a cuple mintues Me and (A) sat down and watched a movie with her soon to be step brother. He pulled out a cigarette after a while and smoked. He offered it to (A) and she took it willingly. Then he took it back and smoked again. (A) told him to let me try again. I said no. (A) said hey, you know you want to. I said no. (A) kept saying you know you want to, so I tried again, but i didn't inhale it. (A)'s brother caught me not inhaling and said, "Hey, you didn't inhale!" I felt emmbarressed, but gave it back to him. The next day when I woke up. (A)'s brother came back in the room smoking again. he offered, this time I said no and gave him a look that said no, and that's it. He never asked again. What should I do? My friends are acting funny around me now because I told them. PLEASE HELP!

You tried it, you hated it, and you won't do it again. There's really nothing else TO do. Your friends are probably just surprised that you tried at all- tell them that your curiosity got the best of you, and that's it.

Anything that doesn't have an obnoxious background is good. Seriously, leave the lime green with yellow text for... nothing. You want something that doesn't have to be highlighted to be readable, basically. The preset color schemes are good for this too.
