"Do not pity the dead, Harry. Pity the living, and, above all those who live without love" - Albus Dumbledore

Hi, I'm Laura. I'm a senior in college & I'm slowly deciding what I want to do with my life. I love Harry Potter, coffee, writing, and sleeping (amongst other things). I'll never claim to know everything, but I'm confident in my ability to help people with their problems. Feel free to send me an inbox question; I'll get back to you!

A few thoughts I've gathered from my teenage years (and being on this site for most of them!):
1. If you Google song lyrics, the song will come up 99% of the time.
2. Dress to fit your body type, and buy the size that fits. If you're a size 6, squeezing into a 4 won't make you look skinnier. It makes you look fat when you aren't.
3. You will never regret waiting to lose your virginity.
4. There is such a thing as a stupid question, but we're all allowed to ask them.

BU 2014 :)

wicked awesome conversations

^my forum, liven it up a little?

advice

you supposedly get your period every 28 days, is that 28 days after you get it, or 28 after it ends?

It's 28 days from the first day of one period to the first day of the next one. But your cycle doesn't have to be exactly 28 days. Anywhere from three to five weeks is perfectly normal, and even more or less than that isn't unheard of.

ive been using bare minerals for about a year now, and im hooked on it. ive tried to use many other foundations and cant seem to find any that match to the amazingness of bare minerals. i would like to find a liquid foundation that i could use sometimes. i have dry skin, but i moisturize, which makes my t-zone oily throughout the day, so i guess you could say i have combination skin. i hate some foundations because they cake up where your skin is dry. so are there any liquid foundations that would look good on me?

please only tell me ones that you have tried and loved, not ones you just searched online and think will work for me.

also, price doesnt matter.
thanks =]

I have two kinds of foundation right now. One is Maybelline's Dream Matte Mousse. It covers wonderfully but it's a different texture than your regular foundation. So you'll have to experiment a little to figure out what works best. It covers acne really well- and if concealer doesn't work for you, a thicker layer of it over uneven parts of your skin works like concealer does.

The other kind I have is Clinique Soft Finish makeup. It's a liquid and it covers SO naturally. I think it's because it's higher-quality, the pigments blend better or something. I got it from my aunt, so I don't know if that's the best formula Clinique has for combination skin (I have to use powder to control shine in my t-zone, but then again I always have). If you're going to buy makeup at a department store, the person at the counter will evalutate your skin and determine the best product for you, so you'll end up with the perfect one.

Regardless, that foundation is the best I've ever used. It NEVER looks flakey, and when it does wear off (which is only late at night if I've been really sweaty like in summertime) it doesnt look fake. Plus, whenever my excema flares up it covers the rash without looking yucky- therefore I practically worship the stuff =]

EDIT- Oh, if moisturizer makes your t-zone more oily than usual, try using moisturizer on just the dry parts of your face, sort of like you're balancing it all out.

hope that helped!

if anyone knows a lot about grammar and writing, please answer this. for school i'm writing an essay about history and what it means. in the introduction, i want to include a definition, like it is in the dictionary. this is the form i have it in now, is it correct? and if it's not, how can i correct it? History; noun, the branch of knowledge dealing with past events.
thank you so much!

I've done something similar to that before. I wrote it as something like "History, defined as the branch of knowledge dealing with past events, (rest of the sentence). The way you have it now, it's a run-on sentence. If you put something like, ""History, defined as the branch of knowledge dealing with past events, is constantly cnanging", THAT would be correct. What you have now is the same thing as saying "Jake, my crazy but awesome ex-boyfriend" and calling it a complete sentence, which it's not. Perfect for a myspace photo caption, yet terrible for a school-graded essay =]

Hope that helped!

okay so i totally bombed my 9th grade year of high school. I finished with a 2.4 :\
and now im in tenth grade.
i want to get into oxford university.
i know this may sound stupid but would i still be able to get in if i raise my grades?
and what kind of things look good on a college application.i know they talk about this in 11th grade but i want to start preparing now.
thankss SOOO much!

Work hard your last three years. All four count, but if you have AMAZING grades for three years, freshman year doesn't look so bad- a lot of people get overwhelmed their first year.

After-school activities, clubs, community service, etc. all look really good on applications. But don't overcommit yourself and go crazy over it. Joining three clubs and devoting a ton of time and effort looks a lot better than joining every society in school just for the sake of being there & burning yourself out.

There's a boy ______ [insert any of the following]
1. in my history class
2. who has the same lunch as me on Tuesdays
3. I'm friends with
4. who lives next door
5. that doesn't know I exist
6.(fill-in your own)

and I ______ him.
1. love
2. like
3. think I like
4. can't stop thinking about
5. who I am completely infatuated with
6. want to be more than friends with
7. (fill-in your own)

What should I do?

Guys aren't usually complete morons. They can act it, but many actually DO have a head on their shoulders. Sometimes they can tell when a girl is hinting that she likes him, sometimes they can't. And that's the trouble, no one knows for sure. A lot of guys (and girls) are flirtatious with the opposite sex even if they're NOT interested in them- it's just a part of their personality. The guys I know (a lot of my friends are guys) are like this & they can't really help it. So, a guy won't always take the hint & you're going to have to be more direct.

A nearly foolproof way of letting a guy know you like him? TELL HIM!! How you go about this is up to you. If you're not the closest of friends & usually talk online, it's all right to tell him on AIM. But if you talk to him face-to-face frequently, take that opportunity to tell him how you feel. No mixed signals here- he'll know exactly what you mean. Keep it short and (relatively) simple- "Jeff, I really like you. And I was wondering what you would think of us being more than friends" Don't completely rehearse what you're going to say, but think it over once & don't dwell on it. Be confident!

Now all you've got left to do is wait for his reaction. Be optomistic- you never know what could happen. Plus, if you like someone & never tell them, you'll regret it. Maybe not today, but someday down the road you will. Sometimes in life you have to take a chance & in my opinion, not telling someone how you really feel about them is one thing you will ALWAYS regret not doing.

Good luck!=]

When you wash your face with soap and water, what soap? Like a bar of soap??

My face is super sensitive and can go red form anything..

Neutrogena Oil-Free Acne Wash is amazing. Try the cream cleanser version- it moisturizes and it's really gentle. You could also try Neutrogena bar soap- it's amber-colored. Or regular Dove soap.

Can someone please give me steps and answers to the following, thank you soo much.

1) 5x-2=-32
2)5x-2x+17=33
3)6x=2x+20
4)3x-8=14=8x
5)3(a-5)=2(2a=1)

To solve problems like these you have to get the variables [like 5x] on one side of the equals sign, and numbers on the other. To do this, you do the same thing to both sides of the equation.

So for number one, you would add two to both sides (that way, you cancel out the -2 on the left side and get 5x alone)
It'll look like this:
5x=-30

Now you have to get x alone (since you're solving for x). Again, you do the same thing to both sides (divide by 5)
5x/5=-30/5
[FYI, it'll be a LOT easier to write it like 5x over 5- like a fraction, instead of sideways, but I can't type it the other way)

So you'll end up with x=-6. Check the answer by substituting -6 for x in the original equation.
5(-6)-2=-32
-30-2=-32
-32=-32

For number two, do the exact same thing as you did for number one. The only thing you'll do differently is first combining like terms. In other words, you can simplify 5x-2x into 3x. Then, get the variable on one side and numbers on the other like before. Number three you'll subtract 2x from both sides- BUT ONLY SUBTRACT INTEGERS! [You should end up with 4x, not 4] Number four I think you wrote wrong, but it'll be the same concept as all the others.

Number five you'll have to distribute the number outside the parentheses. All you're doing is multiplying.
So 3(a-5) will become 3a-15 [because 3 times a is 3a, and 3 times -5 is negative 15]
2(2a-1) you'll do the same thing as you did for the first set of parentheses.

Now your equation will look like this:
3a-15=4a-2
Subtract 3a from both sides, and add two to both sides. Then solve it just like you did number one.

Hope that helped you out. If you need more help, inbox me & I'll be happy to help you, I love math =]

im going to wear a babydoll shirt and my hair curly because it is. They baby doll shirt is a cream color and has a vintage red. It is a vintagey king of shirt and then im just wearing light straight legged jeans. the shoes are around a cream color too. Is that fine. Im kind of worried that someone might wear the same shirt as me. I got it at kohls and its far from my city. Should i be worried? :/

Nope. Even if someone does have the same shirt, it'll look different on them. Plus their hair will be different, different jeans, shoes, makeup, etc. It sounds like a realy cute outfit :)

A ton of people shop at Hollister, and you seldom find any two people wearing the same outfit. Kohl's is even less likely, so don't worry about it at all.

Does perfume spoil? It has no expiration date, but, does it go bad, or stop smelling good after a certain amount of time

The scent will fade after a realllly long time. You'll likely use it all before it happens enough to notice. It doesn't "spoil", you don't have to throw it away or anything after a certain date.

another "guy question"... but I need some help. There's this guy. Now, this guy is kind of a redneck. He hunts, fishes, talks about trucks, ect. (sorry if i'm stereotyping). well, he likes me. He has liked me for the past two years, and I am beginning to like him. the thing is, EVERYONE in my school makes fun of him because he is, well, "immature". I've tried to hint to him that I'd like him more if he was more mature but he just doesn't get it. I'm afraid if he asks me out, I won't know what to say. I mean I like him, but he can be annoying. I know you're gonna say "follow your heart" but it really, truly isn't that easy. Please help!

If you like him, go out with him. Who cares what other people think of him? All that matters is what YOU think. Since the main thing holding you back is what other people think of him, what are you waiting for? Ask him yourself if you want to.

So, school starts Monday, and I really want to get my eyebrows done. There's a girl that comes to our house to cut our hair, and she doesn't have the waxing thing. Before that, I went to a salon, but they aren't open on Sundays. My mom won't take me to like, Best Cuts, because she's doesn't want them to mess up and whatever. I've checked John Roberts and this new place called Colorist, but they aren't open on Sundays. Do you know any that are? I don't want to tweeze them myself, because I don't trust myself. Or, you can just give me names of salons and I'll look it up myself, I just can't think of any. Any ideas appreciated. Thanksssss!

only search advicenators.com

You could always get your eyebrows done on Monday or Tuesday afternoon. That way you can go to your regular place & not worry about someone new messing them up =]

i am 14 and i have worn my hair up everyday of my life since i was in like 4th grade... its not that i dont like my hair... i just hate the way it looks its really ugly looking.. like i need a different cut or something i dont no but now even if i do get a different style i am totally not confident enough to wear it down.. i mean no one has ever seen me with it dowm and its not like i can just walk in one day with it down.. its not that easy! please i need advice (and not just be confident or anything like that... real advice please! it would help to know someone else is like me!!!) thanks!

Once you wear your hair down, people are going to notice a difference. Do something nice with your hair that day- straighten it (or blowdry curls to make waves if you don't have an iron), a simple style that shows how long your hair is. Feeling confident is hard to explain, you just kind of go out there and do it. Wear clothes you're confident in. Walk with your head held high & your posture straight. Say "thank you" when friends compliment you, not "ugh I hate it soooo much". If you feel confident, you'll look confident too.

Good luck! ♥

I write stories for fanfiction.net and I just got a new beta, I usually edit my own stories. She wants me to send my chapters through e-mail or a pm. I use microsoft when I write. How do I send my stories directly through microsoft or from e-mail?

Send them as an attachment [compose a message, then there's usually a link to add a file, add an attachment, etc] or copy & paste the entire chapter or story directly into the body of the message. Ask your beta reader which method she preferrs & how much to send at a time.

is it normal at night on the highway to see long rays of light of the same color shooting out of for example on the traffic light when it is green

Yeah, it's normal. It's how the light travels. Turn on a flashlight; the light does the same thing (you see a beam of light). If it bothers you, maybe wear sunglasses or adjust your seat a little? You don't want to impair your vision, either.

ok well im in 9th grade.! and it seems like alot of my friends have done some/more sexual things than i have done!!.... all i have done it make out and stuff.. but i refuse to give head b.c i think its dirty.!! 1st am i the only not doing it??/ and 2nd i wouldnt mind going a little farther but not sex how do i make it known that i want to do that with out sounding like a slut!!???????????? plz help me..!!!!

You have standards & morals for yourself. Don't be ashamed of that. Don't be afraid to tell the person you're with how far you want to go- if he won't accept your boundaries, he's most likely not worth it. Being a virgin isn't something to be ashamed of at all.

Ok so I have this weird thing with my hair..and it scares me to get it cut. I always get it cut at the same place cause the lady is like a family friend. And I asked her to take 2 inches off but she took about 4 and she cut my bangs so they're angled off my face but ugh I just really don't like it, my face is hidden! Does anyone have any suggestions for hairstyles? Its like shoulder-length and layered and heavy bangs on the left side. I look really emo or something..

Try different ways of parting your hair. Maybe you can move the bangs around & balance them out? Also, side bangs like that grow back rather quickly, at least for me. So soon enough you'll be able to blend those pieces in with the rest of your hair. Don't constantly look at yourself and thnk "aaaah, short hair!" Think "Cool, a new look!" and you'll soon like it. And if not- it's only hair. It'll grow back soon enough =]

I use hairspray & curling gell on my hair before i use my curling iron..and i have to, or else it doesn't work..but after a while, stuff builds up on the curling iron and it doesn't work as well..

what's the best way to get it off!?

thanks!

I've always used rubbing alcohol & a cotton ball or cotton swab. Sometimes you can scrape it off before the iron gets really hot with your fingernail or something similar. Even plain water on a paper towel works, depending on what's stuck to the iron.

Anyone know how to get skinner/thinner thighs ?

Cut junk out of your diet, drink a lot of water, eliminate soda. Basically eat a healthy, balanced diet everyday & limit refined sugar. As for burning fat & such, anything that gets you moving will do the trick. Run, walk, bike, anything that burns calories is capable of burning fat if you keep your calorie intake at a good level. Go to fitwatch.com & use the calculators to determine how much you should be consuming everyday. Plus, exercise will over time build muscle & make your legs look even better.
