advice

im sure this is asked alot but whats a good way to loose weight fast...i only wanna loose like 10 pounds.

and how long do you think it will take.

The best exercise for fat loss is resistance training. Aerobic exercises (such as running) are great but NOT as effective. The reason for that is that when you do weights your body's metabolism is affected, and this means that you burn calories all day long. With aerobics your metabolism returns to normal within an hour or so after you stop exercising. Needless to say, doing both is even better.
Now, if you feel that you could stick to running more, then its a different matter (any exercise beats no exercise).
How long it would take to lose 10 pounds depends on your other stats (weight, age etc). Not under a month and a half in any case.
If you do choose to do it the fastest and best way (with weight training), then be prepared that you wont see a large drop in your weight... what I mean is, you will look better, feel better, have 10 pounds less fat on you etc but since you would have added a few pounds of muscle you wont weigh 10 pounds less.

What is the difference between a sit-up and a crucnch? How do you do each one properly to get the most out of it? What different areas of the body do each one target? I am trying to get a really flat stomache. Please help me! Also, which excersices are best to do in addition to this, I need to lose 20 lbs fast. Thank you.

Well the range of motion is different on each one, but generally they target more or less the same area. Here is a link to a site that shows you how they are done:
http://www.bodybuilding.com/fun/exercises.htm
Click on abs and scroll through the ab exercises to check out different crunches and situps (there are many so you will have to scroll through the pages).
Now, all these exercises will build muscle on there area. This will help tighten things up a bit, but if you want to lose fat they wont do much alone. The reason is that fat loss cannot be targeted to an area of the body (despite advicenator popular belief).
So , what you need to do is to train your whole body. Resistance training (e.g. weights) is superior here because of the effect on the metabolism. You will feel yourself burning calories all day long. Of course doing a cardio as well will be even better.
On top of proper exercise you need proper nutrition. There are many ways to do this, from the more scientific approaches where calories are measured and so on, to the more common sense approach. Going with the latter, eat sensibly, cut down your intake of saturated fat, dont overdo it on carbs, and generally eat balanced meals with plenty of greens.
Remember to eat many small meals each day (also positively affects your metabolism) and to drink plenty of water.
If you want to do it the more scientific way, here is a link to calculate you daily usage of calories (its the basal metabolic rate + calories used in activities):
http://www.internetfitness.com/calculators/bmr.htm
Then make sure to eat a few hundred cals below the number you burn each day... all the other diet tips still apply.
Good luck.

I have been having an email relationship with a man for about a year and a half. We are both married, though I am unhappy. He has been married 3 times. He has a small child with current wife. We have met secretly many times. I am in love with him. He told me that he has no plans to leave her and does not love me, but he wants me in his life. He emails me everyday and wants me to come to his rock shows. I wonder if he does have feelings for me but does not want to leave his son. I can not seem to let him go and keep emailing him and wanting to be with him. What should I do? If he did not have feelings for me, wouldn;t he just ignore me and not contact me? Or not come and hug me when he sees me? None of his friends know about us. We always meet in secret when we meet, although we have not seen each other in person for several months now. I am a 35 year old female.

There are different ways to have feelings for someone. He undoubtedly has "feelings" for you, I just doubt they are the same kind of feelings you have for him.
I am not implying here that it neccesarily has to be somthing purely sexual- I have no idea about that aspect of your relationship- but even "feelings" in the way one has for a close friend could apply here perhaps.
Now, all that being said, you are in a very dangerous place emotionally. You will end up breaking yourself down and feeling worse and worse if you continue with this.
This guy has been straight with you, he has told you his intentions for the future. Even if this wasnt the case I would warn you away from someone who is a husband and a father, and is still willing to cheat. But in this case, there is nothing to wonder about.
Bottom line is that the more you talk/ see him, the less likely the love feeling will go away and the more miserable you will be. I have tried being in a very similar situation and it tore me apart emotionally (and I am still feeling the effects years later).
If you look at it logically, if you can strip off the emotional attachment you have to this person and look upon it as a spectator, you will know I am right. Sometimes our minds know better than our hearts... wish I had realised that five years ago. Good luck.

- Just to answer the feedback... I never did let go. I got burned bad when she eventually left for someone else permanently. Spent two years of my life persuing this person and those were two of the most miserable years of my life. She too had "feelings" for me... just not exactly the same kind I had for her.
Funny thing, people around me back then gave me the same sort of advice as I wrote above. So, I know how hard it is to let go, I was certainly unable to do it. Just remember the longer it lasts, the more its going to hurt.

When there's any sort of social gathering involving alcohol, my fiance always gets drunk. Not completely drunk, just a little drunk. It used to not bother me at all. But lately, it's blown up into a huge deal.

It stems from the fact that my mother was an alcoholic when I was a child. Also, when my fiance and I were split up for a month, he went through a depression and would drink every day and smoke a pack of cigarettes every day, and almost got kicked out of college.

So now when I see him drinking at all, it angers me to the point I want to explode immediately. Since he has informed me that he will still drink no matter what, we've decided upon a compromise; he can drink on special occasions, but not get drunk, even a little bit. BUT, even that angers me!

When he started smoking, I did everything I could to stop him, but I failed. He is finally quitting now, but I'm afraid that alcohol will one day be the same way, especially if we hit a rough patch in our lives. He makes excuses for drinking, such as saying it's the only way he can be himself in a crowd, and that scares me!! But on the other hand, I don't want to be completely irrational and fight about this all the time.

What should I do?

In my opinion you have to see it from his point of view as well. As long as he has it under control, then I dont think its right to forbid him to do it. I know he abused it when you broke up, but he has it under control now as far as I understand. In the end most people have engaged in some sort of self destructive habit at some point in their lives.
You can of course try to talk to him, but I dont personally think its fair to put this sort of a demand on him. I also dont think that it will in any way change the risk that he will do something stupid if you hit a "rough patch".
I realise that you have a strong aversion to drinking, but dont you think you are overreacting somewhat? If nothing else knowing he can have an occasional drink and stop, means that he isnt prone to alcoholism as some are.
I really dont think you should be so concerned by something that is nothing more than a remote possibility.
In the end, alcohol in small amounts is actually good for your health (seriously)... so I would only be concerned with the smoking, thats bad in any quantity.

OKay im 15/f and im between 7-15lbs over weight and i want to loose a bit of weight off of my upper thighs, stomache, hips and lower back and maybe tone my upper arms up a bit?

i eat pretty healthily now its just the excercises im stuck with
but also diet plans might help?

i no u get questions like this all the time but i would appreciate your help! websites also help

A couple of points first: 1. there is no way to target weight loss, humans are unable to do this. If you exercise your abs you build muscle there, thats all. To lose weight you need a general weight loss plan and you body will pull of fat cells from all over (the order its done in is NOT in our control).
2. Muscle does not turn to fat, nor does fat turn to muscle. One can lose fat and gain muscle or vice versa but conversion is impossible.
Now, to lose fat, the best form of exercise is resitance training, such as doing weights. This will boost your metabolism which running and other aerobics cannot do. Thus you burn calories around the clock. Doing a cardio as well as weights is obvioulsy even better.
Here is a link to a site that shows you how to work out your muscle groups:
http://www.bodybuilding.com/fun/exercises.htm
Please dont waste your time targetting only certain areas, just train your whole body for much better and faster results.
Now, as for eating right, the first thing you got to do is to calculate how many calories you use. This is your basal metaboic rate (the cals that you use to stay alive) plus any activity... heres another link:
http://www.internetfitness.com/calculators/bmr.htm
Keep track of what you eat, and cut your calorie intake so its a few hundred cals below what you burn.
Diets in general are not good. They key for long lasting effects is to eat sensible balanced meals, low on saturated fats, moderate (at most) on carbs, and high on greens. If you choose to weight lift, then add also high on protein.
Remember also to eat many small meals every day (this also helps boost your metabolism), and drink plenty of water.
As far a toning your body, you will get that effect from weights as the areas you train will tighten up a bit. A nice effect, not to be confused with actual fat loss.
Well, thats that. Good luck!

I haven't been to many funerals, but I am young and expect I'll be attending quite a few over the course of my life. I need advice on two issues that have come up at the funerals I have been to:

1. What do you say when someone asks how you are? To say that you're "doing great" or even "fine" seems disrespectful to the dead person and their family.
2. I am an atheist. What am I to say when someone brings up the afterlife? I feel like a liar when I nod and agree that yes, So-and-so is in a better place, but I can't very well tell the bereaved family members that their loved one is now worm food.

Well, those situations are tricky. To the first question I would answer something like "Im alright" and then add something appropriate e.g. "still in shock that XXX died so young"/ "sad to miss the oportunity to get to know XXX better"/ "feeling bad for XXX's family they must really miss him" and so on. It doesnt have to be a lie mind you, these feelings will come naturally to most normal people- I am assuming now you arent a heartless psycho :).
As for the religion aspect, I am an agnostic personally (which religious people tend to throw into the same category as athiests). Generally I tend to say things like "I hope so" and "At least he is in peace now" whenever people refer to the deceased having passed on to the afterlife. Both are truths, both dont offend in any way.
Just respect their position and you will be fine, in the end its not all that hard to find appropriate things to say without lying.

whats a good way besides lifting weights to get fat off your arms? xo thank you! much appreciated

There is no way to lose fat from your arms. There is no exercise (even weights) that can target fat loss from an area of the body. No matter what anyone says it is NOT possible.
The only way to lose weight from anywhere is to make your body lose weight generally and eventually it may take fat cells off your arms.
Sorry its not what you want but, if you doubt my advice, a bit of research will prove me right. If you want general weight loss tips just drop me a note... good luck.

hey! well i need to lose as many pounds as i can in about 3 weeks. any suggestions besides running and situps? i need detailed details! plz plz! thanks!

Well, in about 3 weeks thats not a lot, but you could manage up to a couple of pounds a week perhaps.
First thing first, doing target specific exercises is no good as you cannot lose weight on a specific body area. So, contrary to popular/advicenator belief sit ups for example dont make you lose weight on your stomach area and so on.
Now that is out of the way, the best bet to losing weight is to start some form of resistance training (such as weights). Weights will boost your metabolism and you will burn calories all day long (running etc does not do that). So, best exercise... join a gym and pump iron, seriously it is very very effective (of course, doing a cardio as well from time to time would be even better, but its up to you).
Next, take firm control of your diet. Start by calculating your calorie usage. This is your basal metabolic rate (the cals you use to stay alive) plus any activity (even reading), here is a link:
http://www.internetfitness.com/calculators/bmr.htm
Now, keep track of what you eat, and how much exercise you do. Aim to eat a few hundred calories below the amount you burn. I am not sure whats ideal for your age but try to cut 300 cals daily and see how it feels.
Other important tips:
- Eat many small meals every day (this helps boost your metabolism)
- Drink plenty of water
- Time your last meal a few hours before bedtime- if you take my weight training advice, intake a small protein shake near betime
- Limit your intake of saturated fat (from butter/ fatty meats/ cheap oils etc)
- Generally eat balanced meals, high on greens and moderate (at most) on carbs.
In general, try to look at weight loss as a lifestyle change rather than a quick fix. Quick fixes go wrong, because they can rarely be sustained. Lifestyle changes can be more permanent. Good luck.

If i do 30 sit ups today and each week increase by 5 how fast will i have a flat stomach? im 140 ilbs. and im 5'0..and if it will take long then what should i do..

Mike is absolutely right. Be very very careful with this fitness myth... somehow people are under the impression that you can target fat loss from a part of the body. Humans simply cannot do that. Situps/ crunches etc add muscle to that area that is ALL.
The only way to lose weight is to make your body start to slim down. When this happens fat cells will be pulled off from all over, the order being decided by genetics not by what exercise you indulge in.
So... if you want to train and get a flat stomach, train your whole body. You will slim down much faster. Also (again like Mike said below) eat right.
Remember one of the most crucial things in weight loss is to boost your metabolism. The best way to do this is through weight training. Also, eat many small meals every day (about 5), this really helps on the metabolism, and drink plenty of water.
Finally, when you do situps and crunches, you are better off finding a way to add weight to your exercise rather than simpy increasing the reps (for crunches a small weight behind the neck or on the chest works well).
Sorry if this wasnt the advice you wanted, but please dont waste your time focusing only on target specific exercises, the most they can do is to tighten an area up a bit... thats all.

15/f

i quit playing volleyball this year.. but i want to make sure i'm eating healthy so i don't become bigger, considering volleyball was my main source of exercise.

what is a good diet to be on for a 15/f?

Ok, first off, the amount of calories that you burn vary depending on height, weight and activity level (I dont just mean sports here, but also everyday stuff).
To figure out how much you burn you need to caluclate your basal metabolic rate (essentially the calories you burn by being alive) and then add to it the calories that you expend in everyday activities. Here is a link where you can do just that:
http://www.internetfitness.com/calculators/bmr.htm
Once you have that you have an indicator of how much energy to consume (you can do it scientifically or just use it as a rough guide). In general eat balanced meals, moderate on carbs and low on saturated fats (from butter, fatty meats, cheap oils etc) and high on greens. Remember to eat many small meals each day (4-6), it will help keep your metabolism from slowing down. Also drink plenty of water.
Since you arent trying to lose weight, there is no need for anything drastic. Balanced meals beat any specific diets in my opinion and are also far more viable as a lifelong commitment. Of course, do consider continuing to exercise In one article I read, a health expert compared the health effects of not exercising at all to smoking a pack a day. Not sure if it holds completely but it does make you think...

You when you search for something on google and then you go back another time to search for something else, it saves and as your typing guesses what you be searching for. how do i get rid of all the prevous searches I have done?

Ok, bear with me I am using a Danish version of Windows XP so some of the translations may not be exact. Anyways open Internet Explorer and go to the top to a menu that (i hope) is called "functions"- should be the one between "favourites" and "help". Go to the very bottom and press on "internet settings" (or something similar). Amongst the menus at the top there should be one called "content"- it should be one of the first. Click it and it should give you a page that near the bottom has an option called "autocomplete". Click that and you will get all the Windows autocomplete options (including webaddress completion, typing completion etc). There is a button that clears all the history. Also you can turn off the options.
Alternatively, if you want better internet security you can also download an internet eraser (just search on google and you will get many, some with free trials, some that are totally free).

My boyfriend, Isaac, of 3 months, has been different lately. He doesn't call as often and he barely ever asks me to hang out .. i'm always the one asking him to hang out. (We see each other a few times a week.. but it keeps getting less and less.) My friend Nicolas was talking to Isaac (they are friends) and asking him how things were between me and Isaac. He asked Isaac if he was getting bored with me yet. Isaac said he wouldn't mind seeing me just once a week, and he didnt want Nicolas to think he was "pussy whipped." So Nicolas told me all of this. But the thing is, i dont know whether or not to believe it, because Nicolas also likes me and is jealous of me and Isaac. But I dont think he would lie, but its possible. But I'm going to assume it is the truth because it all makes sense. What should i do about Isaac? Should i just call him less and lay low for a while or what? Thanks, sorry it was long, i will rate high :)

Its probably the only thing you can do. Insisting to meet more often will likely push him away from you. Give him some space and see how things develop in the near future. After a while he might start calling you more often. Either way, giving him space cannot do any harm.
As for what your friend Nicolas said, thats a tough one. I would not put it beyond some guys to make something up to get an edge. Do you have any past information to go on there... how prone is he to lying?, what has he done to impress other girls? etc.
Now, have you considered having a straight forward talk with your boyfriend? Just to ask him if anything is going on, if he needs space or whatever. As long as you dont put him on the defensive you might be able to have him tell you whats on his mind. Just make sure he understands you arent angry or anything, just a bit confused.
Well... I know this wasnt all that helpful, but I hope you could use it for something. Good luck to you.

okay. like. i guess you could say im skinny. or normal. but in my opioionn im fat. i always pinch my stomech or w.e and its gross. i have thoughts about being annerexic or belimic. and i dont want to be annerexic cause like i love to eat. and if i could like perge or w.e i sware id be belmic in a heartbeat. and its like i cant stay on a diet im tempted too easily and i exsersize but i mean im sick of the fat on my stomech and i dont do any sports. what can i do. i know my thoughts arnt "healthy" and i want to change it. but the fat on my stomech has GOT TO GO.

There is no exercise whatsoever that can target fat from an area of the body. I have no idea why people keep saying to do crunches or situps or whatever, humans can NOT target fat loss. If you dont believe me, a little research will prove me right.
So for Gods sake dont do crunches all day long unless what you are after is building muscle on the stomach (and even then there is no need to do more than a few sets twice a week or so).
The only way that fat might be lost is if you make your body lose weight generally and wait for it to remove it from that area of the body. Therefore you should train your body overall for best results, not focus on any specific area.
The best form of exercise for fat loss is resitance training (like weights) because it boosts your metabolism and you burn calories around the clock (tones you nicely too). Naturally, a combination of weights and a cardio is even better...
Remember to eat many small meals each day or your metabolism will slow, and drink plenty of water.
Sorry this wasnt the answer you wanted to hear, but please dont waste your time doing target specific exercises, it wont deliver the results you want. Good luck.

ok well like i weigh 150 pounds and i want to lose about 40 pounds but im trying to lose about 30 pounda before january 27 and i meed to loose weight on my thighs, arms, stomach. for my stomach i am doing crunches but i need quicker results. does anyone know any good ideas that have good resuls. well quick results. thanks ill rate 5's

Ok, where do i start... first of all there is no way to lose 30 pounds in that amount of time. If you even get close to that number it wont be fat you lost it would be muscle and water(thats what starvation style diets do to you). Please dont even try it, its utterly unhealthy and counter productive.
Secondly, and I wish I could post this somewhere- it is NOT possible to target fatloss from an area of the body. Most people on this site are under the illusion that they can... if they can they do not originate from this planet, because humans are unable to. When you lose weight, your body pulls off fat cells generally, and genetics determine if one area is neglected or emphasized a bit. Training an area heavily will build muscle there, thats all (this may tighten it up a bit, but focusing on the abs will not do much for weight loss).
Now, the best exercise for weight loss is doing weights. Only resistance training will boost your metabolism so you burn calories around the clock. Every pound of muscle you build requires some amount of calories to upkeep. Also it will tone your body like nothing else.
Obviously, if you can also do a cardio to go with it its even better (say 30 mins on the bike/ stairmaster a few times a week), but start with the weights. You will feel a change in your body within days.
In order to make this work, remember to eat many small meals in the day. This is crucial to get your metabolism up (one of the biggest problems dieters have is they slow down their metabolism by eating rarely- this just tells the body that there is a famine and it should try to store as much fat as possible). Try with 5 or so small meals. Also drink plenty of water and time the last meal so its a few hours before bedtime.
Good luck.
P.s. I see in the meantime someone has given a whole bunch of links to you which is great... Here is one more which is full of exercises to do at the gym (just click on the bodypart you are interested in):

Hmmm, if you are using Windows Media Player, it is very likely a codec problem. I have had the exact same thing even when I thought I had most of the codecs installed. Then I got my hands on the "Ace Mega Codecs Pack" and everything has run smooth since.
If its not Windows Media u are using then sorry, I have no idea. Good luck.

Is it better to excercise right after you wake up in the morning or right before you go to bed at night? Which one will give you more results? Also, any advice on what is the best type of excercise to do to lose weight and tone your whole body? Thanks!

I believe the right answer is in the morning, for reasons that others have written before me. As for the most effective exercise for fat loss, that would be resistance training (e.g. weight training).
The reason this is superior to cardio exercise for example, is that it has a constant effect on your metabolism. This means that you will burn more calories even while you sleep, other exercise types dont affect you in this way. Every pound of lean muscle you put on requires a certain amount of daily calories to upkeep.
Furthermore, you will also notice a greater toning effect as your body tightens up.
Needless to say, if you have the energy and determination to throw in a cardio a few times a week on top of a weight routine (say 30 mins on a bike or stairmaster or whatever), that would be even better. Both, by the way, have benefits for your heart as well and therefore complement each other nicely.
Good luck.
Oh btw, remember to eat many small meals in a day... this will enhance the metabolism boost and make your exercise even more effective.

I went on a blind date today and it didnt excactly turn out the way I wanted it to. Well for starters, I had agreed to meet him at a local coffee shop with the couple that set us up. He was late and when he did show up he didnt look too happy when he saw me for the first time. He didnt offer to buy me anything to drink or eat, and the whole time we ended up talking about his friends or his business. He didnt ask me any questions about me or my personal life or interests, which indicated that he wasnt too crazy about me. We all talked for about a half hour, and when the couple the introduced us had to leave, my date looked at his watch and said he had to go. He never offered me his number or asked for mine. He actually looked like he couldnt wait to get out of there. The other couple looked surprised and thought we would have stayed longer. My friend (the wife of the other couple) I think felt bad and invited me over to her place afterwards.
Is it just me, or was my blind date really rude? I don't understand what I did to make him act like this, the whole time I was polite and engaged him in conversation.
Any feedback will be appreciated. I rate high!

I know I am repeating more or less what everyone else wrote, but the guy was an idiot. Dont give it a second thought (though I know thats easier said than done), it wasnt your fault at all. In the very least, leaving all else as it was, he could have engaged in some polite conversation and been a bit more pleasant. Some people are just plain rude and, with some luck, it will come back and bite them on their behind one day.

currently im about 100 pounds and i have a sorta pudgy stomache..how can i lose that pudgyness by the beginning of feb with out doing sit ups or crunches or somethin like that? thanks

Weight loss is a matter of burning more than you consume... You can contribute to this calorie deficit in 3 ways 1. burn more cals (exercise), 2. eat less cals, 3. affect your metabolism so you naturally burn more calories.
Weight loss CANNOT be targeted to an area of the body so situps and crunches wouldnt have helped you do more then add muscle to the area. Humans can only generally lose weight and then our body takes fat away from the whole body.
The best exercise is resistance training (e.g. weights) because it will also boost your metabolism. Of course, any exercise is better than no exercise.
Now, if you dont want to exercise here are a few other tips... 1. Eat many small meals every day (say about 5)- this will have a positive effect on your metabolism 2. dont starve yourself (it will have an adverse affect) 3. Eat balanced meals, low on saturated fat 4. Try time your last meal a few hours before bedtime 5. drink plenty of water
Well thats all that comes to mind... good luck.

i just need a way to shed a few poundsim 13/m like 118 pounds 5'5 i know it doesnt sound bad but i want to be able to see my abs like i can see them but not good i just wanna loose some body fat in the stomach area

Ok, first thing first, just so you are aware there is no way to target fat loss from your stomach (or anywhere else for that matter). This is not possible as our bodies dont work that way (contrary to popular beleif, particularly on this site). Doing ab workouts may therefore add definition by building muscle, but wont make you lose weight from that area.
Now, losing weight you can do in a number of different ways. First, you need to know how many calories you are burning. This varies from person to person, and is based on weight, age, activity level and so on. Below is a link to a great calculator:
http://www.internetfitness.com/calculators/bmr.htm
(For your stats you burn about 1450 a day just by being alive, and on top of this you must add your activities... even things like reading). To lose weight you can either drop the number of cals that you eat by say 300-400 below that number, or you can increase your excercise level.
When it comes to exercise, resitance training is the most effective (e.g. weights). Aerobics have little to no effect on the metabolism, while resistance training gives you a boost which allows you to burn more calories even in your sleep. Of course, in your case its not too serious so just pick what you like best.
Another important thing is to eat many times a day. Try to fit in 5 or so small meals. This will also have a positive effect on your metabolism.
Of course remember to eat low on fat (particularly saturated), moderate on carbs, and high on greens (if you do weights then also high on protein). Do eat a regular balanced diet and dont starve yourself as this will only lead to you digesting your muscles instead.

I've got some fat on my stomach and inner thighs. What are some specific exercises that I can do to get rid of the fat? Thanks! I rate high!

This is the sort of question that comes up a lot. The answers to these sort of questions are usually totally bogus so beware. The fact is that there is no way at all to target fat loss from an area of the body. You can do crunches or squats or lunges or whatever and all it will do is build muscle on that area. This will at most tighten the area up a bit.
I know this was not the answer you wanted but believe me it is the truth. If anyone says otherwise it is only based on superstitious learning (i.e. they did it, they lost stomach fat, they wrongly concluded the targeting exercise was responsible). All you can do is to exercise generally and your body will remove fat from your body. The order this happens in is not in our control.
So, dont do target specific exercises, rather do a full body routine and you will lose weight faster.
Here is a link for you that will 1. confirm what I have claimed and 2. provide you with a link to another site that shows you how to work the different areas of the body http://www.fitstep.com/Library/Questions/Questions/Fatloss/Targetloss.htm

After more careful inspection, their list of exercises isnt very good... so here is a link with a much better exercise list:
