about

"Do not pity the dead, Harry. Pity the living, and, above all those who live without love" - Albus Dumbledore

Hi, I'm Laura. I'm a senior in college & I'm slowly deciding what I want to do with my life. I love Harry Potter, coffee, writing, and sleeping (amongst other things). I'll never claim to know everything, but I'm confident in my ability to help people with their problems. Feel free to send me an inbox question; I'll get back to you!

A few thoughts I've gathered from my teenage years (and being on this site for most of them!):
1. If you Google song lyrics, the song will come up 99% of the time.
2. Dress to fit your body type, and buy the size that fits. If you're a size 6, squeezing into a 4 won't make you look skinnier. It makes you look fat when you aren't.
3. You will never regret waiting to lose your virginity.
4. There is such a thing as a stupid question, but we're all allowed to ask them.

BU 2014 :)

advice

My boyfriend promised me he wouldnt drink because i felt uncomfortable about it, said he went on vacation with his friends , and his friend gave him alcohol mixed with another drink, i think it was pepsi, i dont really know anything about alcohol, but he said that he drank by mistake, didnt know it was alcohol and that it wasnt his fault, and as soon as he realized how strong it was and that it was alcohol he didnt drink it, i dont know if hes lying, cause when i asked if he drank he said if he were to drink hed get wasted, hes the type of guy thats like "If you wanna do something wrong,do it right" so he said if he really wanted to do it he would have done more, and it was a mistake it could happen to anyone, my question is, can u really not tell the diff? or is he lying to me?... thank you..

Yes, it's possible. Vodka, for example, is supposed to be almost tasteless (expensive brands, anyway) so it's pretty easy to mix it with something else. Ever heard of jungle juice? Well, if you're ever at a party and are offered some, don't drink it. It tastes like punch but it's actually a TON of alcohol and juice mixed together and gets you drunk wicked fast.

So yeah, it's entirely plausible that your boyfriend drank from what he thought was Pepsi and didn't realize for a few sips it was mixed with something. I'll give your boyfriend the benefit of the doubt here, for a few reasons:
1. If there wasn't much alcohol/something high quality, it could have tasted like a flat Pepsi or just plain Pepsi even. Coke is a popular drink mixer (rum and coke, jack and coke) and its taste covers a lot of things..
I can't imagine beer going unnoticed, but mixed with cola, it might be. I'm really not sure on that one 'cause I've never had it in any form(I am repulsed by the smell of it, haha). I doubt it was beer, because as alcohol goes it's ineffective as a mixer (12 ounces of beer = 1.5 ounces of liquor like vodka, rum, etc).
2. If he was eating something spicy, the burn or aftertaste of the food may have covered the burn of a strong alcohol
3. He stopped when he realized there was alcohol in it.
and most importantly..
4. He told you about it.

I really think that if he wanted to get drunk and ignore your wishes, he would have. And he wouldn't have told you about it because you wouldn't have found out (he was on vacation). I'd give him a pass this time.

HOWEVER. If this becomes his story every weekend, I'd start being suspicious of his actions :)

Side story, this actually happened to a friend of mine. He was sick with a sore throat and eating a spicy meat lover's pizza. His friends poured his glass with half Sprite, half vodka. He drank the whole thing without realizing anything, because his throat already hurt and he could barely taste anything. Only about 20 minutes later, when the vodka really started to affect him, did he realize he had just had four shots along with a soda. (His friends thought someone had told him it was a mixed drink...)

SO. Like I said, I'd give him the benefit of the doubt this time.

ok im 12 years old about to turn 13. I want to see a movie that is rated R but my mom won't let me see it, even though shes let me watch other R rated movies before. How can I convince her to let me watch it? (Please don't say that I'm too young to watch it anyway, I need advice not a lecture)

Since you've been allowed to see other R rated movies before, there must be something specific about this movie that your mom is uncomfortable with. Before you ask your mom again, educate yourself. Research the movie and discover what it's rated R for - a movie gets slapped with an R-rating if there is more than one F-bomb dropped (a couple exceptions have been made, but it's good to keep in mind for a "language" rating).

Ask your mom what is stopping her - whatever substance matter is bothering her about it. This could be a good opportunity to open up a discussion about sex, drugs, etc. If she remains firm, try and respect her opinion. She's your mother and you ought to respect her opinion about this - not worth losing her trust over. In a few years, you can watch it on your own! :)

Will a returned item show up on my credit card statement?

It depends on the credit card company. My credit and debit cards use this method:
1. The original purchase amount shows up as a debit (as if you had made the purchase and left it at that)
2. The return shows up on your statement as a negative charge (or a positive deposit, depends on the company)
3. The two should cancel out

I've never heard of a charge not showing up AT ALL, even if it was returned. All transactions are recorded. (Depending on when your billing cycle ends and when the return was processed, the refund may show up on the next statement)
If you have questions when you get your statement, customer service should be happy to assist you further.

Hello!..

So there is this chimney looking structure..in an empty field..that I go past to visit my boyfriend. I live in Cambridge, Ohio..and this is out..past where I live..

Well, I was watching this thing about adolf hitler and the concentration camps..and when they gased the jew's..in the chambers.. the fumes would come up out of the top of the chimney looking structures.. the same chimney looking structure..looks EXACTLY..like the one I seen.

I've always wondered what it is.. and now it makes me feel sick o.o..but I'm not sure if it really is.. or not..but why would it be there..alone..with nothing there with it?

It's mysterious.

If you can't help it's okay..but still..XD Thanks!

A lot of times, when old mills burn down or cave in or whatever, the chimneys remain standing. It's wicked expensive to take them down, especially if they're still solid. There's a few like that in my town from the Industrial Revolution and even older, and they're solid as anything.

More than likely, that's exactly what you're looking at. Chimneys can only be designed so many ways, and the similar appearance is likely coincidental :)

Searching "concentration camps in Ohio" on Google doesn't yield results that strike me as the type of camp we're talking about. I don't recall ever learning about anything of the sort in AP History, not in that part of the country anyway (In I believe California, many Japanese Americans were separated and forced to live in different communities) and I don't think they were treated quite as horrendously.

As far as I know, iTunes only stores (or gives me access to) one backup for an iPhone - the latest one.

Right now, though, my phone's being really glitchy and I was wondering if there was any way to keep multiple backups of it. I really don't want to lose everything that I have on it now, but I also want to see what would happen if I completely reset the phone and started anew.

Hey, I've noticed this question sitting here with no replies for a few weeks now. I think your best bet would be going into an Apple Store and speaking to someone at the Genius Bar. You can make an appointment online:

to guarantee yourself a spot, if it's busy.

I have guets in my home and they have a 3 month old. Her is my problem she will not put her breat pumps away after she usees them they lay out on my counter , in my sink or in the dis drainer. I have asled ther nicely to put them away after she is done using them,What can or should I do to get them to know that this is wrong in so many ways.

If she's washed them they can't just be packed away somewhere; they won't be able to dry out and can get moldy, which is dangerous.

Is there a private area in your home they're staying (a guest room maybe) where you could set up a table with a towel? She could leave the pump there when she was done washing it.

Parents with young children often leave such supplies out on the counter. For them, it's as common as a coffee mug or a mixer. You may have said something along the lines of "make yourself at home" and for her, leaving the baby's supplies out to dry is doing just that. Rather than just saying "Put these away" offer a location that is "away" enough for your liking.

How do you get a wine stain out of the carpet?

Blot out as much as you can. Keep the stain from drying. Use club soda (seltzer water) and continue blotting. Hydrogen peroxide works great as well.

If that isn't enough:

Oxy-Clean is also a wonderful product. My family is accident-prone and we probably keep that company in business - it's great stuff. The laundry pre-treater (in a spray bottle) is potent and portable.

Okay, Im 16 and Ive been getting highlights since I was 14, the first time I did it I didnt ask, my sister did them at her in-laws house.

My parents took well to the hair, they actually liked it and ever since ive kept getting highlights

Recently I chopped off me mid-back length hair and now its 3-4 inches long with bangs that swoop to the side and are down to my eyes

I want to start dying my hair, I have done it once, black, temporary, but I was only allowed for Halloween last year. I want to do permanent, if I cant Id settle with semi/demi permanent.

My first question is, how do I convince my parents to let me dye it?

My second question is how should I dye it, I dont want it to be just one color but i think its too short to do tips and I dont wanna keep doing skinny little highlights..
my parents definitely wont go for crazy colors, I want to try white with black, blue, or red in it either as tips or streaks but Is my hair too short for that?
Or should I do coon tails on my bangs? If so how do I do it??

Thanks :)

I HIGHLY recommend that you use an extremely dark brown, not black, the first time you dye it. Permament (and many "semi") black dyes are impossible to get out without stripping the hair. Just a heads up.

Anyway, try using the "it's just hair, it will grow back out" argument. Since your hair is so short now, it will have to be re-done anyways. I think red would look best. Blue tends to wash out to look greenish or cartoon-like, and white would just remind me of a skunk, to be honest. Also, it'd be really damaging to make your hair white after dyeing it so dark. Streaks would probably be the nicest, and would probably go over better than tips - highlights are a more "normal" look (for convincing your parents, haha).

Maybe do one thing at a time - dye it first, and then put streaks or tips in afterwards. I think this would be the best way for two reasons: it'll be better for your hair (giving you some time to deep condition and whatnot) and it will give your new style a chance to "grow on" your parents. Keep the discussion civil, and emphasize that it's just hair dye :)

I'm 16/f
okay so to begin with I'm NOT a virgin. I lost it to a close friend and he has nothing to say about this.
So I've Been masterbating since I was in 2-3rd grade not fingering myself but rubbing, anyway; taking a closer look u see that my labia is 'stretched out and a slightly darker color then it should be. I've noticed this before and went to a doctor for it. She said it was not harmful.
What I'm worried about is it appearence. What if a guy wants to eat me out and is digusted by it?? Quite frankly it makes me nervous. Any pointers??
Hugs&rockets --olie

The skin down there is normally darker. You're fine. And unless it's hanging down by your knees or something, I doubt a guy will notice anything unusual. Try not to stress about it :)

Skin bleaching in that area isn't a good idea; you can burn yourself or cause permanent damage. Don't do it!

Well I want to wear my corset with just a tee shirt over it. Is there any way to hide the bows that you have to tie in the back?

Wear a (preferably thick) cami or tank top underneath. And a loose t shirt, which will minimize lines

I am a 20 year old female. I was diagnosed with plaque psoriasis when I was seven. Most of the psoriaisis has been dormant for about 10 years. I got sick with Strep Throat in May, and it caused a flare up of the psoriasis. However, I was stupid and waited a month to go to a dermatologist. She wants to put me on Enbrel to help it. After reading the side affects, I'm really nervous about using it. But she said that young adults have had lots of success with it. Am I just being paranoid? Or do I have a reason to be worried? Have you used Enbrel for your Psoriasis? If so, please let me know how it has helped you.

Your doctor wouldn't be prescribing this medication if she thought it would hurt you. The side effects for medications such as this are important to know, but are typically rare (or less annoying than the original condition).
One of the side effects of injections (if it's not an injection it's probably a lower dose; I don't know how it would be administered) is risk of infection with a suppressed immune system. Your doctor will definitely make sure you don't have an active infection before she gives this to you.

I've never taken this, but I have excema and used a cream called elidel, which has a "black box warning" from the FDA. It was worth it to me because it got rid of an otherwise painful and strange looking skin condition. Monitor yourself for possible side effects if you choose to take it. As an alternative, ask your doctor if there's anything less invasive you could try first, if you don't want the shot.

I hope you find relief soon!

P.S. - Take any review you read online with a grain of salt - most people only write online reviews if they have a bad reaction (a small percentage of users). Happy consumers rarely take the time to write such reviews.

do spacers hurt when you get them on?

They hurt for awhile, but you get used to it. My friends have braces and said they hurt but the pain goes away after awhile.
The pain is worth it; your teeth will be b-e-a-utiful!
You can also take over the counter pain relievers such as Advil or Tylenol unless your dentist/doctor tells you otherwise :)

My boyfriend and I have been dating for over two years. We did not start having sex until the two year mark and we were eachother`s firsts.

Although we delayed sex for a long while, we were active in foreplay. I really enjoyed this and there was never really a problem. However, lately whenever he tries to touch me, regardless of how long and where I feel extremely sensitive down there; to the point it feels sore and I make him stop. This is not a problem at all during sex, only foreplay now.

Its starting to really discourage my boyfriend since ive gone from loving that stuff to avoiding or asking him to stop very early on. I dont know why this is happening, or what I can do to prevent it. Any ideas? Its starting to REALLY frustrate us both.

Thanks

Is it possible that his hands are rougher than they used to be? The skin down there is paper-thin and more sensitive than basically anywhere else. Check his fingernails and trim them, and see if his skin is dry/sandpaper-like. A hand scrub and some (not girly scented) moisturizer could do wonders for both of you. I usually soak my hands in warm water (or take a shower) and then use a mixture of plain old sugar and olive or canola oil (as a scrub), followed by moisturizer. It makes cuticles softer, too!

I know not too many guys who would be keen on the idea of getting a "manicure", so maybe promise NOT to tell his friends about it! Since he's probably already seen your reaction, he shouldn't mind trying something to make it better for you. Throwing in a hand massage would make it nice for him (men supposedly hold a lot of tension in their arms and hands, and massage alleviates stress)

If the problem continues, seeing a doctor or a clinic might be a good idea; however, if foreplay is the ONLY time you're experiencing discomfort it's most likely nothing to worry about. No one on here can be 100% sure, though.

Id like to hear yalls opinions about tongue rings on girls 18+. Ive always wanted one because I loveee piercings/tattoos, I like the way they look, and I always like to have something in my mouth like straws, pens, cigarettes (i really want to quit). I wouldn be that girl whos always showing it off and would want it far back enough where its not terribly noticable.

Do you think its trashy when a girl has a tongue ring? (Like i said, not showing if off but if you just noticed when she was lauging or something)

Thanks!

Personally, I don't think they're trashy. I'm pretty open-minded and a lot of people in my family have tons of tattoos and piercings. Some are kinda out there, but they're well-done and they like that sort of thing.

The only thing I think of when I see people with tongue piercings is "oooh, ouch... their poor teeth!" Many people with tongue piercings end up chipping their teeth from playing with the piercing - they'll tap it against their front teeth. I don't know how far back they CAN pierce your tongue, but I imagine if it's far back enough it would minimize the chances of chipping. I know some dentists won't see patients with piercings, but most will - they'll see you as a frequent patient, haha.

I say, go for it! It's your body. You also have the added bonus of tongue piercings healing pretty quickly and closing up within a day or two. If you decide you don't like it anymore, it's pretty easily undone :)

Me and my boyfriend have had sex twice so far and both times there was a lot of liquid. I understand that I get wet down there but there was a lot. the first time there was some on his bed. it was as if I peed. The second time there was a lot more. It got on his shirt but he laughed about it. I, on the other hand, was very embarrassed. What is it? I've had one partner before my boyfriend and we always used condoms but it's never happened to me before I got with my boyfriend. Another thing is with my first partner I never felt any pain. With my boyfriend, for the first few minutes it hurts really bad to the point where my eyes start to water. Is this all normal?

It's normal; don't be embarrassed. Your boyfriend probably laughed it off because it's not a big deal to him - in fact, being "wet" down there means you're more turned on (generally) because your body is designed to work that way. Assuming your boyfriend knows this, he was probably proud of himself and therefore didn't react too much ;)

Also, if you aren't using condoms anymore, there's nothing there to contain the ejaculate. So, more is obviously going to leak out; it has to go somewhere!
Remember that condoms prevent STDs and STIs (nothing else is as reliable & effective), and that you should be using another reliable form of contraception to prevent pregnancy... I'd hate to see you ask another question on here in a month: "Am I pregnant? We don't use condoms and I'm not on the pill". Unless you're TRYING to get pregnant, of course!

As for the pain, there's a lot of different factors here from your last partner: different guy (different size and shape), no condoms (from the way your question is worded) and most likely different positions and whatnot. It's normal to feel pain at first, especially your first few times with a new guy. However, if it's constant or a REALLY bad pain, seeing a gynecologist will put your mind at ease.

my boyfriend is a meth user.. i am not.. i am 12 weeks pregnant will having sex with him hurt the fetus

- http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC2432474/

Basically, if your boyfriend was using methamphetamines when your baby was conceived 12 weeks ago, it's possible for your baby to suffer as a result. It's also a HUGE risk if you begin to use drugs of any kind, or inhale the smoke (if he smokes it that way) or ingest the drug indirectly in any other form.

Also keep in mind that people are seldom themselves when using drugs, and meth is one of those drugs that becomes addicting after only 1-2 uses. Remember that the safety of you AND your unborn child is at stake, now and after his or her birth.

I am a 20 year old female. I have an oval face, but I'm overweight, so my face is actually between oval and round (definately more oval shaped though!) I used to suffer from Trichotillomania, but with a lot of hard work, I have stopped pulling. My hair is utterly damaged. Very thin on the left side. I want to cut my hair to a length that will allow healthy hair to emerge, but I'm super afraid of trying any kind of haircut above my ears. I usually get a bob cut, so I have thought about allowing my stylist to cut it shorter than usual. What are your thoughts? I do have dreams of having beautiful, long, healthy hair, but I know that this takes time.

I would definitely allow your hair to grow out. Unless the hair you have is damaged, I don't see a reason to cut it. Since your hair is so thin on the left side, try a style that parts on the right - this will allow you to push your hair over to the left, making up for the hair missing on that side :)

Also, take vitamins (folic acid and iron help. both are found in a regular multivitamin w/ iron) and deep condition regularly. You can deep condition with regular conditioner if you don't want to buy a new product - just leave it on for a few minutes while you shower.

Good luck!

If you're not ready, don't do it. He shouldn't force you into doing anything.

If you're just afraid in the sense that you have no idea what to do, ask what he would like you to do.

What birth control pills do you use.

The pill you ultimately take depends on a few things, including:
- Your current periods
- Cycle you want
- Whether or not you've recently had a baby

I took Yaz for about 3 years, and recently switched to Loestrin24fe. They're low-dose pills, which seems to be a popular trend. Many of the pills advertised are this type and cost more because they're brand-name. They have a different dosing schedule too. Instead of 21 days of active pills and 7 reminder pills, there's 24 active and 4 reminders. This helps many people who have long and/or heavy periods. If you don't have any particular complaints and simply want the pill for contraception, ask whoever is prescribing it for a generic to save on the cost.

There are also pill types now that reduce the number of periods you have per year, such as Seasonique. The downside to these is that if you were to miss pills and become pregnant, you wouldn't know right away. Your doctor can help you decide if this would be right for you.

If you just had a baby your doctor will prescribe you a "mini-pill" which only contains one hormone, which is safe to your baby. But if you're not in this situation it's not an issue.

A doctor can help decide which pill is right for you as well, so take advantage of their expertise :) Also, the pill will only work properly if you take it at the same time every day. Setting a reminder alarm on your cell phone is wicked helpful for many women.

I'm trying to make a gold bracelet with gold heart charms on it but I can't find a place to buy the gold heart charms? I found an online store that offers them but they are selling it for 18 dollars EACH and I need at least 50. So.. thats really expensive for me. I realize its gold and it won't be cheap, plated gold is okay with me. I tried searching on Michaels.com but didn't come up with anything. Here's the website of that one store. If you scroll down a bit, the heart I'm looking for is #6086.

http://www.charmnjewelry.com/category/p6/gold_charms/Love_and_Marriage_Charms.htm?returnurl=%2fgold-charms.aspx

Thanks!

I've bought charms like that by the dozen at Michaels. There's hundreds of beads available at each store and it would be impossible to list every item online.
