I agree 100% of it. Advice is advice and it is given when asked for. I give it and I leave it at that. It's up to the questioner/advice seeker to take it.


:.That point leads onto my philosophies in advice giving:
1. Advice is given when asked and no time else, unless your friend is about to irritate a black bear, then you should definitely advice your friend to back away and run for his or her life.
2. Advice is not critical, not judgmental, and definitely not biased. Advice is advice and should remain neutral.
3. Advice is to help, not to get 5s on every answer. As a result, my advice ends up being quite blunt and frank with a hint of rambling mixed in.

advice

On May 22 I was given devistating news that after an 18 month battle with cancer my 9 year old cousin would die in any where from 2 days to 2 weeks. This news devistated me and left me not only depressed but i found myself isolating myself from others. Images ranging from him laying in bed paralized (he became paralized from teh waste down) to him laying there thinking (his organs began shutting downa nd week 2 he was not responding to anything) On June 4 he passed away which just sent me more into a down hill sprial. More images poured into my head and again more after his funearl on June 7. Now i find myself seeing his face every time i close my eyes-- pictures of him in his casket or burning in fire ( he was cremated after his viewing & service)

now i'm stuck.. trying to start a new beginging without him in ym life but with no help

i wnot talk to anyone but my boyfriend about it- and he seems to avoid the topic because he doesnt know waht to say.

so what do i do?
hwo do i move on with life?
how do i wake up every morning withotu first thinking if it was a terrible dream?

life has to go on, the world wont stop for me.. so what now?

i need to learn to "move on"
i'll never forget his strength, his courage, or his smile

You know, the main problem with deaths is that we don't ever want to forget about that person & we're afraid that we will if we don't but we're afraid that we'll distort an image of perfection if we do talk about it.

Death is unfair, more unfair and untimely for some than others. And death hurts us all and impacts us in ways we don't think we can ever escape.

Depression, I've been living with it since I was in 3rd grade. It's crappy & it never goes away--it just gets worse. So I suggest you tell your parents about these feelings & maybe you could go get help from a therapist. It'll be a double goody since talking somewhat helps.

When my uncle died (lung cancer), I was pretty much half dead inside because he was my one and only uncle that I really loved and liked. But it helped me to pretend that by writing to him in a notebook, he was reading it and knowing everything that was going on (this was when I was 7, though, so it may sound foolish). And my best friend, he friend died in a car accident not long ago. The most prominent thing I saw that she did to deal with her friend's death was to just write about her. Write a poem, leave her messages on facebook, letters, cards, notes, etc.

I don't know if it's any help to you. But I can tell you that there is no magic word or amazing pill that can help you with your grieving process. I'm in my own grieving process over my best friend, who thankfully is still alive, but I believe will face mental retardation when he comes back fully.

Basically, Original Oratory in forensics is giving a speech competitively. I'm competing in this next year and I'm having trouble thinking of topics. I want to give an inspirational speech I'm pretty sure and I had an idea about a topic of "Doing the right thing" This topic is relatively cliche and general so i was wondering if

(a) You had any ideas to enhance this?

(b) You had any ideas for other inspirational topics that you have come up with or saw someone perform successfully

I'm usually duo interp/impromptu in forensics.

I'm not a 100% learned with original oratory but if it was me, I would go on about a topic that's quite "radical" and in heated debate at the moment & try to influence them in one way or another very persuasively.

What about animal cruelty, homosexuality, drugs & alcohol, global warming, sexism, racism, etc.

If not, what about kids facing agism (yes, that's a word), or mental retardation, judgment, untreated/ignored teenage depression, cancer (you can use Connor's Heroes for an example), adopting military families. Or better yet, why don't you try and volunteer at Hospice near where you live & talk about that & strengthen it and make it have more impact by adding in what you personally experienced.

It'll be kind of awkward if this boy doesn't know you have his number/didn't give you his number. Besides, talking to someone on the phone that's an aquaintence is awkward if it's the first time.

Have this guy friend of yours three way this boy then you'll have a reason as you why you're talking with the boy & you can casually ask what the boy's number is.

Another thing is plan a friend get-together with your girl/guy friends to go to the movies, bowling, etc. Then casually ask this boy if he wants to join. If your guy friend knows about your crush, clue him on it so he doesn't ruin anything.

im 15 years old, about 5'5 and weigh about 165lbs.
Ive always had a large frame, and i know I am built bigger and I always will be. But I do want to lose weight. So far Ive lost about 5lbs. in 3 weeks with weight watchers, and I want to lose 20lbs. I would really like to weigh 150lbs. by the end of July. I exercise everyday for at least an hour, I guess my problem is that I like to eat. But ive dieted before, and I know what to eat and such, it's just that it's hard being a teenage when I can't like eat anything! But I'm on a summer swim team so I will be swimming like 3-4 days a week and doing abdominal exercises and I have friends in my neighborhood to ride bikes and jog with. But any suggestions? There are times when I want to quit because I'm not making any progress..and i think about food wayyy to much, which is suprising because I'm really active and invloved with school and 4-H and alot of other things. And if you have any advice for like cravings or like any food advice of dieting please help! I really want to meet this goal so badly! thank-you!

I play guitar and I really love to sing. I can sing okay to most songs. Some I do better than others. How can I improve my singing?

If you have a piano (or you can just use your guitar), train your vocal cords to learn a new note. Just play the octave[s] your voice can sing without going into harmonic singing. Then, go up a note (or down, which ever you prefer) to broaden your voice range. You should only try and get 1 note a week and no more or it'll strain your cords too much.

Try and learn voice vibarato [sp?} Truth be told, I don't know how to do this. It just comes when you sing enough (specifically opera type of singing or songs with long held notes like Evanescence, Mariah Carey, Emilie Autumn, and their types of songs are examples) Don't move your mouth or use your stomach to do the vibarato, though.

im happy i guess with my body in general but i hate my stomach fat, its gross. i have a big belly and love handles, and thats what makes my body gross. im so determined to get rid of them. i've been doing situps, backwards sit ups (to loose the love handles) but i dont seem to be getting flatter, my fat is just getting harder (muslce i guess?) but it still looks like fat, not like a 4-pack muscles, i want 4 pack ab muscles instead of just a big blob of fatty muscle, does anyone know what im doing wrong?

Well, I'm sorry to say but what you're doing are toning exercises. They tone your muscles, increase your muscle strength/endurance. They do NOT help with the fat.

To lose fat, you need to exercise and eat right.
Do aerobic exercises 3-5 times a week (like running) for 30-60 minutes. Continue with regular toning exercises.

Do not eat more than you burn. Get your BMR (Google BMR calculator) which is what your body burns in a day & either eat that much to maintain weight or eat less than that to lose weight (3500 calories is a pound)--if this just confused you, read this and it will de-confuse you =) http://www.advicenators.com/talkaboutmetopic.php?t=365&userboard_id=35415

I am very stressed out at the moment, to the point where I am continuously having trouble falling asleep, focus when I really need to, keep myself motivated, etc., etc. I am preparing for one of the most important exams of my academic (and professional) life, the dreaded LSAT, and the stress is, of course, doing absolutely nothing to improve the situation; it's debilitating in a way. I understand that most people who have to take this exam are stressed- the whole law school application process, along with this exam, is enough to drive more than a couple people berserk. But the thought that everyone in this boat goes through this is doing nothing to help.

I thought I'd ask for some advice on how to manage stress...it could only help. For anyone (and I imagine it's lots of people) who has had test anxiety, stress of any sort, actually, what are some good (and healthy) ways to manage the stress and keep focused? It's getting in the way of everything...so any advice is appreciated.

Well, these are the only tips:

xRant to a friend. It helps somewhat.
xExercising helps you get your mind off thing (running, yoga, pilates, stretching)
xTake mini breaks from studying (study only 20min at a time then take a 10 minutes break because your brain can store up to only 20min of what you study in one sitting)
xDedicate 3-5 hrs of a day once a week to just chillaxing. Hang with friends, watch a movie, etc.
xCleaning always helps me. (Laundry, bathroom, room, fridge, organizing shoes and books, etc).

On the day of your LSAT:
Eat chicken or any other form of protein for breakfast or whatever meal you have before. Take Pepto Bismol (lol) so you don't worry about having to go potty during the exam. Eat a banana or two (beta blocker..keeps you calm) but don't eat too much or it can have a soporific effect on you. Breath in a out and think about what you'll do tomorrow or what you'll do after the exam to celebrate.

Also, I don't know if this is true...but while you study, eat mint or chew gum. And then when you take the LSAT, eat or chew whatever you were doing while you were studying. Apparently, the brain will remember more when you repeat the same situation? I don't know if it's true or not.

ok. well i weigh about 120-125. and im 5 foot 5. bu ti still have a little tummy and UGH! it bugs me so much and i wanna loose weight, so now i started only eating salads and not eating anything for dinner. i also eat breakfast. lets just say i stay off the junk now for a week. and i run and do exercises i saw in magazine with weights. when should that help me? in a month? 2 weeks? i really wanna loose 10 pounds in about 2-3 weeks. will that work? and if so, what can i do to loose that many pounds..im TOO FATTT!

I used to use clean and clear before and got occasional breakouts but then i switched cause my skin dried out in the winter. Now however i break out with the new product so i switched back to clean and clear and i broke out a little more than usual.
Is that okay? i know it probably is, since the treatment is trying to clear our my skin, but should i continue?

You know, I never really liked any medications on my face because it irritates my skin, dries it out, makes it red and peel, and it enlargens my pores.

So, this is what I would suggest:

Use Cetaphil face cleanser twice a day. Wash your face in warm water with it (gently...don't scrub) when you wake up and before you go to bed.

In the mornings, I use Neutrogena Face Lotion. They have one for oil control, sensitive skin, etc. You can find them at CVS, Target, Food Lion, Ukrops, anywhere.

Then at night I apply a thin coat of Aloe Vera Gel (Buy an Organic and/or 99% natural one SAFE for human use!) and leave it on over night. Then I was it off in the morning.

Sometimes, instead of using the Aloe, I use face massage things I make at home (don't do massages everyday...have them at LEAST 2 days apart):

Mix any of the following ingredients (but be sensible and don't put all of them in at once):

Milk, honey, egg yolk, flour, cinnamon powder (use little!), nutmeg (use little!), dried basil (soaked in water), green tea (organic in warm water), banana, cucumber, oatmeal, and yeah...

Try to make the mixture so that it won't run off. It doesn't matter how much of each you put it. Just make sure it'll stay on your face.

But yeah, wash your face & put a warm towel over you face (to make your pores open) then apply the mixture. Leave it on for 10-15min (don't let it dry or taking it off will make you want to scream and leaving it on for too long will attract bacteria) and wash it off gently (and if you want with a soft wash cloth) with warm water. Then spalsh your face with cold water to close the pores.

Keep your hair pulled back, change your towels and pillow cases once every week or 2 to avoid having cloth with too much bacteria on it touch your face, and eat healthy.

Avoid stress, chemicals on your face, lack of sleep, poor diet, and the norms.

Exercsing may help but remember to wash your face as soon as possible. Drink lots of water, green tea, veggies, and fruits =)

i know this question is asked all the time but.
how do you make out?
like.. if he has hi tounge in your mouth what do you with yours?!

If this is your first time kissing, it's going to be really awkward at the beginning. I'm not going to tell you to go with the flow because that didn't work for me XD. Instead, the first few seconds will be messy but after a while, you'll get the drift. Just don't give up!

As for the tongue, if wants to, he'll press his tongue a little against your llips (or teeth) and if you want, you can open your lips and I guess touch his? I don't know how to explain it. Stay kind of still for a while and figure out what he's doing. Try to mimick. IF you don't want tongue just yet, don't open your lips/teeth/whatever. He'll get it unless he's a silly fool and ignorant. Then just pull away.

Personally, I don't like tongue. But everyone's different. =)

well this summer i really want to work out and get some hot abs before i go back to school, since i'll be starting off as a freshman in highschool and i wanna look AMAZING!! so- i was wondering if i could get some healthy eating tips and some workout tips (for abs-duh) so i can get a toned stomach for the fall. i already have an ab cruncher but i also need some other tips so please help!! thank you!!

Okay, well, there are 3 parts to getting the amazing abs.

1. Removing the fat.
2. Eating well
3. Toning.

1. To remove the fat, you need to control what you eat (will talk about after this) and you need to obviously burn it off. The best way to do it is aerobic exercises--running is helpful and of course, aerobic classes is a duh. Do aerobic exercise[s] 3-5 times a week for 30-60 minutes. Removing the fat is essential because no matter how many reps of crunches you do everyday, your abs won't show because it's hidden beneath the fat. Crunches tone your muscles, not melt away you fat.

2. Eating is a major part if you need to lose weight. You need to figure out how much calories you need to consume to maintain your weight or lose your weight (http://www.advicenators.com/talkaboutmetopic.php?t=365&userboard_id=35415) will help you with that information. Also, if you have a specific number of pounds you want to lose in a specific amount of time, use this site to figure out how much you need to eat to reach the goal (http://www.healthyweightforum.org/eng/calculators/calories-required/)
Be sensible and dont eat less than 1200 calories a day. Avoid fatty foods and eat more veggies and fruits. Don't waste your calories with chips. Fill them up with fiber and protein rich foods.

3. Toning exercises:
Upper Stomach:
Crunches. Haha. Cliche, but crunches.
Lay down on your back with your legs bent at the knee. Put your hands where your head and neck meet and support it there to reduce the strain on your neck, but by no means use that advantage to lift yourself up. Make sure your head does NOT touch the ground while you do this. Do all that with your stomach. Come off a few inches, go back down. Do 2 reps of 8 and pulse for 8.

Lower stomach:
Get in a crunch position with hands by your sides [or behind your head that is ON the ground to make it a little advanced] Lift your legs, still bent, so that your knees are over your rib cage. Now lift up your buns and lower back off the floor a little. It's a very SMALL movement but if you do it correctly, it should help. 2 reps of 8.

Obliques:
Crunch position again with your hands on your head and neck for support ONLY. Make sure your head stays off the ground the ENTIRE time. Now, remove one hand and put it straight down your side and reach for your shoe...feet, whichever. Do 2 reps of 8. Switch sides.

Lay down on one side with your body in a straight line. Take the bottom elbow and bent it at a 90 degree angle so that you're elevated from the ground. So right now, you should be elevated form the ground with only your feet and elbow [and lower arm] touching the ground. You can hold it there in that position if it's hard enough. If it isn't, take your top arm, bend it at the elbow and place your hand behind your ear. Slow bend forward/down so that the top elbow touches the ground near where your bottom hand lies. This is pretty hard and you should do however many you can.

what can i use for my skin that will help these problems?..

16 f okay so i have really poofy hair and since summer is starting i really want to curl it up and i dont have time to straigten my hair all the time so i wanna make it curly but everytime i use gel it doessnt work on my hair it leaves it curly for like 2 hours and then it goes poofy. i want something that would work for my hair its like a little below my shoulders and i really want it to get curly help please i rate!
please dont say get a curling iron a hair product that works is what im looking for thanks!

I sometimes use Fructice (sp?) Frizz Control.
It's in a round bottle that's short and you can see inside of it. It helps with my frizz when I get it =)

I would like to tone my stomach as much as possible in 2 weeks. I'm getting a navel piercing so I would like to tone it down a bit. I've been doing knee to elbow lifts and whatnot.. some aerobic videos too. Would Dance Dance revolution actually help if I do it for an hour or two? I really need to get into shape anyway so I'm trying to make it as much fun as possible. How long should I work out a day to get good results? I'm not expecting WOW i can totally see a difference results just enough to feel comfortable in my jeans again. I'm not sure what to do for eating. Someone told me to drink a lot before I eat so it fills me up or something? I dunno, any tips?

Well, when you say "tone," do you mean make it more defined or do you mean lose some fat around it?

That's the food part. The exercise part: aerobics, dear. Aerobics. It will be the most effective in helping you shed the fat off your body so that your toning exercises can show. You can do 23958 crunches 2353 time a day but the toned abs won't show if you have a layer of fat surrounding your abdomen.

To tone...

So right now, you should be elevated form the ground with only your feet and elbow [and lower arm] touching the ground. You can hold it there in that position if it's hard enough. If it isn't, take your top arm, bend it at the elbow and place your hand behind your ear. Slow bend forward/down so that the top elbow touches the ground near where your bottom hand lies. This is pretty hard and you should do however many you can.

so I'm 16/f and i go to the gym. i'm starting to go regularly. I eat normally and in small amounts so that's really not an issue. i want to tone my legs and make them slimmer. but i don't know whether the treadmill could do a better job at that or whether i should grow muscles on the workout machines instead. what burns fat faster? running or stretching/lifting weights? same goes for arm flab. sometimes i don't have enough time to go and lift weights..so i run instead.and i dont know whether or not im wasting time when i could get a more effective workout by lifting weights instead.

In order to burn fat, you may want to focus on aerobic exercises--go for the treadmill.

For strength, repetitions of weight lifting SLOWLY will help.

For endurance, many repetitions of weight lifting quickly will help.

However, weight lifting will help you develop muscles, which in turn helps you burn more fat.

So, my advice for you is to spend 30-60min on aerobic exercise[s] 3-5 times a week and then work on weight lifting (strength) 3-5 times a week (as well) for 30min-ish.

You know, by the fact that he said, "Damn I can't mess with you unless I wanna go to jail," & that you were his snowbunny, I can't help but get the feeling that all he wants is to get in your pants.

In my state, two people that are 3 years apart in age having sexual relationship with each other can land the older one in jail for statutory rape which I believe is a felony...

As far as telling whether he likes you or not...no one can except him. You know, the only thing I can tell you is to wait until you are 18 (because if he turns 18 and you guys have some sexual stuff, it'll be a longer jail sentence for him because you'll be a minor & he an adult) and if he still wants to go out with you then, well, there's your answer.

As for him looking at you as a younger friend, I'm not sure. I'm not the best one to keep friendships from turning into more than friendships.
