"Do not pity the dead, Harry. Pity the living, and, above all those who live without love" - Albus Dumbledore

Hi, I'm Laura. I'm a senior in college & I'm slowly deciding what I want to do with my life. I love Harry Potter, coffee, writing, and sleeping (amongst other things). I'll never claim to know everything, but I'm confident in my ability to help people with their problems. Feel free to send me an inbox question; I'll get back to you!

A few thoughts I've gathered from my teenage years (and being on this site for most of them!):
1. If you Google song lyrics, the song will come up 99% of the time.
2. Dress to fit your body type, and buy the size that fits. If you're a size 6, squeezing into a 4 won't make you look skinnier. It makes you look fat when you aren't.
3. You will never regret waiting to lose your virginity.
4. There is such a thing as a stupid question, but we're all allowed to ask them.

BU 2014 :)

wicked awesome conversations

^my forum, liven it up a little?

advice

im 14 years old and i've noticed that on the side of my hips i have stretchmarks...i think. i don't know where all of a sudden they came from but ive noticed them at around the beginning of summe time. is this from lack of activness? im about 5'2'' and i weigh about 105. im a pretty active and i do watch what i eat. could these be stretchmarks or something else?

Almost everyone has stretchmarks. You notice flaws on your own body a lot more than others do.

Nothing makes them totally go away, but moisturizing regularly can minimize their appearance.

And by the way, stretchmarks have little to do with your weight. They're caused by growing in general.

I'm 16/female.

I have an amazing boyfriend with some serious trust issues! Every time I turn around he's moping around telling me not to ever talk to another guy, even if I don't even talk to them! Last year and now recently I've fallen hard for this one guy from Band. He's a total sweetie, but I have problems talking to him in person.

What do you think I should do?
I really don't know what exactly I need help with...
I just want to know if you were in the position, what would you do?

:/

Dump him. He's being way too controlling of you and he knows he's doing it, because you talked to him before.

Any guy who won't let you talk to ANY other male isn't worth your time. It would be reasonable if he wanted you to avoid, say, an ex of yours that still had feelings for you, but what he's demanding is unreasonable.

Seriously, you don't deserve this. If I were you I wouldn't put up with any of this guy's crap, ever.

Hi, well this is my first time to ask a question on this site, but id like some advice.

My girlfriend has this chello lesson/play every other day just about and well shes the only girl in her group, the rest are guys... and i wouldn't mind if they just did there lesson and left, but usually after a lesson they will go do something together afterwards
well, I also have never met these other 3 guys so it annoys me really... i don't want to sound like a jerk or anything but its like me hanging out with 3 different girls, and not inviting her.

but then again she has to... so bascially the only thing i can do is attempt to ignore it but its tough. Selfish?

If i talk to her she just gives me , Oh its ok don't worry, i didn't bring it up directly but mentioned as she was talking about something else

17/m/us

Honestly you should be able to trust your girlfriend. It's entirely possible for guys and girls to be just friends. Unless she's given you a reason to think otherwise, let her hang out with these guys without worry.

16/f..i'm about to be a junior in a week. and well..my wardrobe hasn't changed much. i did buy a few new clothes but found that i had enough from last year...and they're pretty good-in-quality-clothes so i thought eh. what the hell? i'll just wear them next year.
also, our family's on a budget right now..so i can't get around this. would you be embarrassed to wear the same clothes next year (in addition to a couple new) ? =\ it worries me. like what people would think...

Honestly? I don't think most people are going to notice at all. I know a lot of people have answered this already, but I'll add my opinion too.

There are a lot of clothes I wish I could have worn for more than one year, but I lost a lot of weight after 8th grade, and absolutely nothing fit anymore. But that's a different situation.

I have tons of shirts from last year that I still adore. Plus, why get rid of basics, like great-fitting jeans, just because they're a year old? Logically, I'd take EVERYTHING out of my closet, try everything on, and keep whatever still fit. When you DO get new clothes, get what you don't already have [for example, get a new hoodie, as opposed to more tank tops]

Making new outfits is really simple, and will eliminate your fears of "Hey, didn't you wear that same thing last October?". Mix & match, layer, whatever it takes. Secondhand stores can be a gold mine, if you really look.

If any of your clothes are looking faded or have stains/rips, try to fix them if they're worth it [and if you're attached to an item, it totally is worth the effort!] OxyClean Spray is a miracle worker- really. And Clorox2 for Colors keeps new [and older] clothes looking bright. Also wash in cold water. Rips can be often be easily mended with needle and thread- and if you can't sew, find a friend who can =]

my family is planning a vacation for this weekend, it's going to be about a 9-10 hour drive down south. I always get car sick esp if the drive is more than 4-5 hours
any way I can prevent this from happening?

Dramamine works amazingly well. And the generic works just the same and is a lot cheaper too.

Looking outside the car can help, too, because it balances out your inner ear & makes you less dizzy [which essentially IS carsickness]

Distracting activities such as texting, listening to music, or reading can help too, or make it worse. You'll know pretty quickly if it works for you.

Also, if you're old enough to drive, ask your parents if you can take a turn at the wheel. I find that driving makes me focus entirely on the road, so I don't notice any feelings of carsickness. If not, suggest some bathroom/coffee stops every few hours and get some fresh air =]

haha, my boyfriend well he really loves my butt (it's a kinda big),says so all the time. But he says some thing that are a little hurtful, like they don't hurt my feelings really I'm just not used to someone saying things like "You have a fat ass" or 'Damn, girl you have a nice big butt". haha, I remember once when I was sitting on his lap he was all 'Oh is my phone hurting you" I was like "Nope", he goes "Yeah, probably all that padding" he says it though, in a loving way. Its not rudly spoken.
I don't know what to think, it is a compliment right?

I'd say he just really likes your butt.
The fact that he says it lovingly makes me believe that he's trying to compliment you.
If it bugs you a lot, ask him to say it in a more polite way, but don't be surprised if he gets a little upset over his 'compliments'. Guys can have fragile egos just like girls can =]

I got this diet + healthy eating book a couple of weeks ago. I was flicking through it this morning and found a two day diet.
It says that you drink fresh juice for two days. Whenever you want. But it has to be fresh. So no added sugars.

Would this work?
I'm only gonna do it for two days.

When it says no sugar, they mean no ADDED sugar. Like the kind in a sugar bowl, not naturally occuring sugars that are in fruits already. If you had to buy juice in a store, make sure it's 100% juice [read the label] and not a cocktail.

Short, liquid-only fasts are very effective sometimes. Be careful, though, and mention to someone you live with that you're going on a juice fast, just in case you get sick suddenly, they'll know. Their main purpose, as far as I know, is to 'flush out' your system, and they can be beneficial as long as you don't do them too long.

Chances are though, you don't need to do anything that drastic. Drinking more water than you usually do might be enough, and you'd still be eating, too.

i know this sounds kinda weird and im definitely not trying to sound racist, but why do asian people always seem to have the clearest skin and softest hair?

My best theory [which I've read about in other places too] is that their DNA makes them look like that [obviously]. Like, one of my best friends is Sweedish [I think, haha, its somewhere around there] and she's very fair, and has wicked soft blonde hair. It's how that culture looks, and others work the same way. French people, for example, are more likely to have beige/olive skintones, and Irish people are typically VERY white =]

Maybe Asian people are more likely to have 'normal' skin, as opposed to combination or oily. Also, certain skin tones must hide acne scars better, making one's complexion looks flawless.

My sweet 16 is coming up and my mother is finally going to let me get tips again.
I had normal fingernail tips around this time last year and i liked them alot, but I was wondering whats the difference between a permanint french set of fingernails and just normal acrilic tips? I know they cost alot more
Do you have to get them filled less often?
Is it still just an acrilic nail they glue on?
I know nothing about them so some fingernail help would be nice.

A lot of nail places charge extra for a french manicure as opposed to a solid color; that might be the only difference. Try asking the people at the nail salon, because each place is different.

where can i get those colored contacts for free trial?

the ones WITH experience in this and not just giving me out random websites that wont even work

thanks,
desperate color brightener girl

Um... you don't need a coupon.
You get free trial pairs from your doctor as part of a contact lens fitting [which isn't free by the way]. You get to choose a couple different colors and decide which one looks best for you in different lights. He'll also test your eyes and determine if you need a prescription, and fit the contact lenses properly.

http://acuvue.com/acuvue_colours.htm

But again, that coupon is esentially worthless; all it does is remind you to get a free trial pair.

does bleaching your hair damage it a lot. my mom really doesn't want me to bleach it because she says it will never be the same. i have super soft hair. will it have any long term damages on my hair? will it make my hair less soft? :/

Yup. Bleaching basically destroys your hair follicles and makes your hair feel like straw. You're much better off dyeing it a lighter color, like a dark blonde or light brown, then using the color you wanted originally. It's less damaging to lighten gradually, and it's much easier to get your original color back if you don't bleach your hair first.

I use this facial wash:
http://www.neutrogena.com/ProductsDetails_153.asp?lProductLineID=13
And on the back it says you can leave it on for five minutes as a mask. Well, I got sidetracked once and left it on for fifteen...
I stress out over little things like that so don't laugh but is that ok that I left it on for more than five minutes? It's not going to hurt my skin right?

I have that exact product. I love it.
It won't hurt your skin if you leave it on longer. After awhile it'll get really itchy, but leaving it on for more then five minutes has no benefit. Once it dries it's pretty much done its job.

anyone think that wud be a gud brush? for blushing?

also, what is a perfect way to wash a makeup brush

As long as the bristles are soft it should be good. Expensive brushes [or at least not the flimsy ones that drugstore blush comes with] are typically soft.

I always wash makeup brushes with warm water and a mild soap, then let them air dry. A non-grainy/exfoliating face wash does the trick. I use Neutrogena Oil-Free Acne Wash and it does the job perfectly.

wat are some positins for sleeping

i do a lot of body positions and i cant get content with how i sleep with my body

WHAT DO YOU PEOPLE DO?

I usually sleep on my side, usually curled up a bit, but still sort of stretched out. I sometimes move around a bit, but I never fall asleep on my back, because its too uncomfortable, and I rarely wake up that way either. My arms go wherever they might end up, usually they're under my pillow.

You might also want to consider WHERE you're sleeping. Besides checking the age of your mattress as Jack suggested, make sure the temperature of your room is comfortable for you, and that you have the right amount of blankets and pillows. I personally crank up the AC and use a couple blankets because I like the bulk of them.

If outside noises distract you, consider investing in a sound machine or using an air conditioner/loudish fan.

a girl with a bf goes up to the mountains with a different guy who is just a friend who knows the girl has a bf.

she decides to get out to look out at the view and tells him to come too. Instead he touches her thing and says hold on. So she stops and starts to wait. he gets closer to her and begans to kiss her and she pushes him away and says, "what are you doing we are just friends and I have a bf?" he stops, apoligizes and begans again. then she pushes him away and tells him she wants to leave.

he doesnt take no for an answer and begans to touch her while she keeps saying no. she punches and kicks and all that. he doesnt stop. he gets his pants off and her shorts off.

does he get all the way in her or no? continue my story with details its for school. thanks!

Uhm, that would be sexual assault.
As it is this guy's being a jerk, so if you want his character to be hated a little less, stop him right there. Actually preferably before he doesn't take no for an answer, unless that's what your goal was?

If the prompt was to write a story about sexual assault then by all means do whatever you want, but I seriously doubt that this would be deemed appropriate writing, because the way it's going is getting too graphic for school.

I have a myspace and last year when i got on i talked to alot of people and i got new comments and messsges everyday. But now this year I haven't talked to more then 6 people this summer. And I'm starting high school next month and when I go to high school I'm not going to talk to alot of people. What do you think I should do?

Well why did you stop talking to all of those people? Comment them and ask how their summer is going.

A lot of people might not be checking their myspaces as much or spending as much time in front of the computer. And you'll talk to lots of new people once you start school again.

what a good hair coloring box BRAND i can get from walmart or any drugstore?

example like loreal feria (that a good one?) ; or Clairol Natural Instintc (dat a good one also?)

Any more? how bout this http://www.google.com/products?hl=en&q=loreal%20preference&um=1&ie=UTF-8&sa=N&tab=wf

????

any suggestions? any more good coloring that stays put and long in your hair? and also nice colors... natural colors that are bright n nice looking..

If you're looking for a color that stays in don't get Natural Instincts. It washes out over the span of a month.

Loreal and Garnier both make good permanent dyes though. I've used both. Buy whatever brand has the color you're looking for.

i recently got a contacts refit and a prescription for glasses (my first time wearing glasse) now i have my glasses but theres something off about them. they have astigmatism accounted for but i had a headache when i put them on and took them off. is the prescription for glasses diff than contacts since contacts like wrap around the eye and glasses dont?

You'll get used to them, the headaches are probably your eyes adjusting to the glasses, and then when you take them off, your eyes are straining to see again.

If it lasts more tham a few weeks, give your doctor's office a call. In the meantime, take an Advil or Tylenol if the headaches get really bad, and you'll get used to them. It might also be partially due to switching from contacts to glasses, and vice versa.

I recently got my hair cut, pretty short.
And I want it thinned so badd!
I'm afraid it will look bad though.
Its the same length all the way around, its on my shoulders...no layers, nothing except side bangs.

Any ideas?

I want choppy layers, and choppy bangs, i just need a new style.

Often when people layer their hair, it gets less bulky and has a similar effect to simply getting it thinned. Try layers before you even mention thinning it out to your stylist. Good luck!
