Question Posted Tuesday August 12 2008, 12:47 pm

my family is planning a vacation for this weekend, it's going to be about a 9-10 hour drive down south. I always get car sick esp if the drive is more than 4-5 hours
any way I can prevent this from happening?

Dramamine works amazingly well. And the generic works just the same and is a lot cheaper too.

Looking outside the car can help, too, because it balances out your inner ear & makes you less dizzy [which essentially IS carsickness]

Distracting activities such as texting, listening to music, or reading can help too, or make it worse. You'll know pretty quickly if it works for you.

Also, if you're old enough to drive, ask your parents if you can take a turn at the wheel. I find that driving makes me focus entirely on the road, so I don't notice any feelings of carsickness. If not, suggest some bathroom/coffee stops every few hours and get some fresh air =]

The pills work. The ones that prevent car sickness.
Also if you wear glasses, wear them. It works for my mom. She sometimes gets car sick if we drive for a long time, but when she wears the glasses she feels ok.
It might work.

Also try to sleep as much as possible whilst listening to music.
This always saves me.

I used to get car sick from being in the car for like more than 2 hours! It was terrible!

What I found helped was Valoid. Check a pharmacy near you to see if they have it. It helped me alot. Also if they don't have Valoid try asking the pharmacy if they have anything for car sickness and such.

Also eat dry things. Especially before you go on the road, muffins and biscuits that sort of stuff helps. Dry dry dry. Also take an apple with. Apples help. And a bottle of water.

Don't read or watch the road(at least don't constantly watch the road) also be careful with music. Listen to it periodically.

But honestly the best thing is Valoid. You take it like half an hour before you leave and it prevents feeling car sick.

I hope I helped.

Goodluck!

:)

there are carsickness pills (or dissolvable chewing tablets) you can take that ease carsickness. Take it before the trip and it'll prevent it. You can find it at your local drug store.

Cux answered Tuesday August 12 2008, 1:28 pm:
Bring your iPod or another type of music player and listen to music the entire time to distract you.

You could try sleeping most of the way, because if you're asleep your mind won't be thinking about being car sick.

Bring a book, but sometimes that may make you even more car sick, but you could try it out.

I've heard that if you focus on the horizon when you're in the car, it gives you a sense of balance and you won't be as car sick.
