Does anyone have the workout video BYOU? [[with Sabrina Bryan]] Does it actually work? I just got it and i was wondering. I heard on a review some girl lost 3 pounds in a week. Stories are welcome! =]

Thank you!

If a girl lost 3 pounds while using the video...I'll go out on the limb and say it probably works.

hi, well do martial arts help you lose weight, because im pretty overweight, and i want to do martial arts. thanks

Honestly...what do you think?

Common sense alone tells you that you have to be in good shape to be real good at martial arts and that it's a great physical activity to do. Just look- Was Bruce Lee fat? No. Is Chuck Norris or Jean Claude Van Damm fat? No.

I don't want to sound mean..but come on use your head a little bit.

My friend Lauren doesn't have a computer at home, so I'm asking this question for her. She is 12 years old and in 7th grade and is 4'11 or 5'0, and weighs 104 pounds. She is a little chubby, and also has a little weight on her stomach. So my question is, how can she get down to 92 pounds (or whatever your weight recommendations are) and lose the stomach by October 31? Thanks a lot!

Well "Your friend" (You) should just worry about eating sensibly, training at home or in a gym with basic exercises an hour a day 3-4 times per week and don't put the Halloween time on your goal because I can pretty much guarantee you as someone who is a trainer that it isn't going to happen by then.

what is a good workout for your lower abs, besides crunches and sit ups b/c those are mostly your upper abs.

thanks in advance.

O you think so huh?

Well sit ups don't even use your abdominals in their primary function, they use the Hip Flexor Illiopsas muscles. Look it up.

Maybe if you were to slow down and actually feel the contraction in the whole abdominal system and not just rush them out like everyone does you would feel it in your lower stomach. Do you really think that the bottom 2 abs aren't enaged in a crunch if the other 4 are contracting? Come on, sort the bullshit from the facts and bullshit is that you only work your upper abs during a crunch. You probably won't believe me anyway and think I don't know what the hell Iam talking about, but hey at least I gave you the truth.

ok well to start off im a guy and i've just started working out.i do sit ups, push ups, lift weights and all that other stuff. but what i need help on is with the sit ups. the problem is that i do the situps and i only think that it works in the lower abdominal area and i want it to work on my abdominal sides and upper abdominal too. is there any way that i can do something to work the sidesand upper part that actually works?also i have a flabby chest and i was wondering how i can get rid of it.oh yea and is it normal to feel soar in the muscle area of your arms, legs, and stomache the next day after working out.

They don't work your abdominals as great as you think...in fact they barely do, crunches engage the whole system of abdominals no matter what anyone tells you about how they only work the upper.

Flab goes away by dieting, I don't care if you do 500 push ups and bench press 450 lbs

Yes its normal to feel sore after you workout, it's called Delayed Onset Muscle Soreness.

I will be training soon to be a wrestler and I was wondering if "Up your Mass" would be of any help. Also, if you have any other suggestions or products that are SAFE and LEGAL, please let me know. (I am 15/m)

Take my word as someone who is both a personal trainer and someone who is a bodybuilder that has tried all the supplements you could imagine out there- there is nothing that is safe and legal that will give you wonder muscles in a short time. However- if you train really heavy and eat a lot, it is both more fun and way more beneficial. I am going to outline some main points down here- don't get mad because there isn't anything out there that you are looking for- it's going to take blood, sweat and tears- are you up to it?

More food, more often. Don't gorge yourself but be prepared to eat and train hard. Protein from red meat, poultry and fish build muscle most effectively. Milk by the quarts, containers of cottage cheese and lots of eggs will add significantly to your muscle bulk and power building.

Whole grain breads, cereals and muffins work well for carbohydrate and fiber intake, while potatoes, rice and pasta are the most stable and popular sources of carbs. They burn clean, and with intense training they're not likely to store as bodyfat. Bring on the vegetables of your choice, variety here is good. Complex carbs, fiber abundant, vitamins, minerals and exotic micro nutrients lurk in these foods.

Between meals shakes of protein, plus peanut butter and bananas are convenient and powerful ways to add to your positive calorie count.

Plan your menu daily. You'll need to eat often, upwards of 6 meals per day. Don't overload your system, we can expect to absorb about 35 grams of muscle building protein at a sitting. For serious weight gain commit to these principles.

Remember, lots of water, lots of calories.

Keep a training log. Record your meals, training program and poundages.

Only with heavy training will your heavy eating be productive. Add squats and deadlifts to your workouts.

Never allow your nutrition to falter, even for a few hours. Keep extra food, protein drinks and supplements at work, in your gym bag and in your car. We're on a mission.

Review the specific supplement section for information on the elite bodybuilding nutrients.

For advanced training and elite performance, creatine, BCAAs and glutamine do work. Big time.

Don't neglect your aerobic work. 20 minutes, 4 times a week will keep you from getting sluggish, increase you blood volume, raise your fat burning metabolism and maintain maximum endurance for training on the gym floor.

Don't contemplate your navel — to get big and muscular you'll need to carry bulk. Bulk's fun. Your back, shoulders and arms spread out, tugging on the seams of your shirt. (This is mostly a "guy thing"...huge, bull, monster, etc.) With the size comes power. Power enabling to train heavier and harder and meaner. This training formula plus big eating equals big core muscle. So ignore cuts and a trim waistline. Focus on the mass, muscle separation and balance. There's a season for everything. There'll be a time for muscularizing and getting ripped later.

im 14, 165 pounds and 5 foot 10. wats my BMI and if there is a way, how do i work it out myself?

BMI is something you CAN go by unlike what some others have said.

According to the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute (NHLBI) guidelines, assessment of overweight involves using three key measures:

* body mass index (BMI)

* waist circumference, and

* risk factors for diseases and conditions associated with obesity.

The BMI is a measure of your weight relative to your height and waist circumference measures abdominal fat. Combining these with information about your additional risk factors yields your risk for developing obesity-associated diseases.
So, just what is your risk anyway?

1. Body Mass Index (BMI)

BMI is a reliable indicator of total body fat, which is related to the risk of disease and death. The score is valid for both men and women but it does have some limits. The limits are:

* It may overestimate body fat in athletes and others who have a muscular build.

* It may underestimate body fat in older people and others who have lost muscle mass.

* Appropriate weight gain during pregnancy varies and depends upon initial body weight or BMI level. Pregnant women should contact a doctor (Not a personal trainer; we aren't doctors and get in lots of trouble if we come off as if we are one) to assure appropriate weight gain during pregnancy.

Sounds like you are not an athlete with lots of muscle mass and rather you have an average build so the BMI can be a good guideline for you, but it's not exact and you shouldn't take it too seriously- just as a benchmark of where you stand. Your mental state and how you feel about yourself is more important anyway.

EDIT- Fuck you.

I hope i put this in the right section.
I want to learn about Baseball. I do not want to play it, no. I want to learn about it to be able to watch it on the tv & cheer out like many people do, also because I like the idea of baseball, I just don't fully understand it.
So how would i go about learning anything about baseball?
thanks.

MLB.com is the place to go- they have the official rulebook, everything about teams and even a glossary of popular baseball terms like Texas Leaguer, Baltimore Chop, Cheddar all that kind of stuff. Or you could listen to the endless ramblings of a crazy baseball fan like myself..but I am biased towards the Mets ;-)

Hi Mike. Due to my schedule, I am planning to start weight training in the morning before work. Just in case it matters, I use a 3 day split routine, and I train pretty intensively.

Basically I have about 1hr 45 min before I go to work. I was wondering what I should eat before and after training. Also, how long should I wait after eating before working out.

Thanks

Sounds like we have an aspiring bodybuilder with that split...good on ya man :-)

Before you workout you want to eat something small, energy dense and easily digestable. Not a whole meal as this will make you feel a bit sick while you train and you won't digest fully. Good pre-workout foods are fruits, whole grain or small amount of white bread with jelly, rice cake and cottage cheese and so on.

You really only need to wait about 15-20 mins before you workout after eating these and you will have a quick shot of energy that will create an enviornment in your body conducive to fat loss and muscle gain and not just weight loss in general.

After training I believe in protein drinks made in water as these are the easiest for your body to digest and gets the nutrients you need to your muscles fast. A meal that is post training that isn't bad is also eggs, oatmeal with some peanut butter or cinnamon made in skim milk, some more fruit and milk or juice. This gives you good protein- both fast and slow digesting from the eggs and milk and fast and slow digesting carb sources from the fruit and oatmeal that keep you blood sugar in check until the next meal and you won't retain bodyfat or get too hungry and be tempted to just eat anything in site until your next meal.

Lift heavy, eat well, take a good mutli and get plenty of sleep and you'll be doing GREAT. Good luck.

i have a friend who thinks everyone is fat. the girls she thinks are fat i dont think are fat at all. i think they are beautiful girls. their bodies arent perfect ... but whatever i dont think theres much of a difference between a size 3 and a size 8. i told her some people have more muscle and others are just skinnier. if someone has a pretty flat stomach but has little lovehandles and are liek a size 3 she thinks thats fat. i dont even wanna know what she thinks about me. i have bigger legs but they are mostly muscle. my stomach isnt flat but its definately not fat either. im pretty comfortable with how i look, but it bothers me how shes so negative about everyones bodies. what exactly IS considered fat?

Fat is a subjective term, usually people who classify those who really aren't that fat are very insecure and have no idea what the hell they are talking about.

As a rule of thumb...someone more than 20-30 lbs the average weight for their height/age and carrying more than 20-25% of bodyfat. This is too subjective though so it really just depends on your opinion.

Before anyone gets upset, I only want to boost my metabolism and thats all I expect out of diet pills. I excersize regularly and eat all day long (healthy, whole foods) and keep it down! My only problem is I have a slow metabolism and I'm looking for the healthiest and most effective way to speed it up. I'm curious about things like Stackers and Farenheit, I know they can be addictive, but, if used properly, could they honestly help? If even just a little? If not, what can?

I'll spare you the lecture. Before you go looking for an aid try doing things to the foods you eat..eat more spicy things, add spicy mustard for certain things- stuff like that. The healthiest way to speed up the metabolism is to adjust your diet and training, but I know that sometimes that just isn't enough.

Stacker and Farenheit have the fancy looking labels and they promise you this and that and take my advice as a personal trainer and someone who has tried it all being a bodybuilder for 5 years- it just isn't true and the best thing to do is to avoid these supplements completely.

However there are some natural aids which are non-stimulant that may help you and one I recommend is Tonalin CLA (Conjugated Linoleic Acid) which is an Essential Fatty Acid that your body needs anyway. It's relatively cheap and available at any health food store. Of course if you have any allergic reactions to things or you have concerns- either don't take the supplement or ask your doctor. There's no need to feel foolish or anything like that...these people are very very good at advertising the product and can have people easily fall for it, including myself at a point in time.

i don't take cooking class because i took woodworking instead. is anyone willing to share some basic nutrition facts here?? maybe tell me about wut daily stuff i need. thanks ^^

Good nutrition, like good training, is simple - learn the basics and practice them consistently. A little knowledge and a lot more discipline is the secret. Apply yourself diligently - look ahead, don't look back and don't look for shortcuts. There simply aren't any.

Health and fitness has climbed to the top of America's popularity list and has become big business. As you've noticed, there's a gym on every corner and a glut of diet and bodybuilding formulas to pack on muscle and burn off fat. Competition is fierce, the promises are bizarre and we're all confused, suspicious and eventually numb. We have on our hands a zillion ways to diet, feed ourselves and live our lives for fitness. Let's clear the air and put some things in order.

RULE # 1- Stay away from fats, excessive salt and simple sugars. This eliminates 99% of the fast foods, munchies and soft drinks. Who needs them? In a few short weeks, you won't want them, wonder why you ate them and feel sick if you do!

RULE # 2 - Eat a basic breakfast of complete carbohydrates and protein to set up your metabolism for the day and to provide fuel and muscle building ingredients. Basically, protein builds muscle and carbohydrate supplies fuel for energy. Breakfast can be an easy to prepare meal from a quality protein shake to a bowl of oatmeal, scoop of cottage cheese, fruit and coffee. Remember, if you don't feed yourself a small wholesome meal in the morning, your body will draw on your muscle tissue as a source of energy, putting you in a slump and in muscle deficit. Add a good vitamin and mineral formula each morning to put order and efficiency in your body chemistry.

RULE # 3 - With whatever effort it takes, feed yourself every 3 to 4 hours throughout the day - each meal consisting again of protein and carbohydrate. Any combination of the following is perfect: tuna/rice, lean meat/baked potato, cottage cheese and fruit, chicken/pasta, etc. (Vegetarians - take particular care in order to get plenty of protein in your diet.)

RULE # 4 - In simple English, to gain weight, eat more and eat more often. Be ready for solid bulk weight - lean muscle comes slowly but surely. To lose weight, eat less, still as often, consuming the majority of your calories early in the day.

RULE # 5 - I have always instinctively leaned toward a higher intake of protein over carbohydrate to build a lean body. Though contrary to popular opinion, many doctors and top bodybuilders I've conferred with agree. Emphasize protein.

RULE # 6 - Between meal snacking is okay if the snack is truly nutritious - no junk! Don't let them be a substitute for a meal or become a habit. Good snacks are fruits or vegetables, low fat muffins, protein energy bars, nonfat yogurt, whole wheat bagels, cottage cheese, etc.

RULE # 7 - Simple carbohydrates (sugar and honey) provide us with a quick pickup but let us down just a quickly. Excessive sugar plays havoc with our insulin metabolism and leads to fatigue and fat storage. Not good.

RULE # 8 - Fuel up before your workout. Eat a small easily digested meal 30-60 minutes before you train. With complex carbohydrates in your system, you'll train harder, longer and with more enthusiasm. You won't experience low blood sugar jitters or dizziness - you will experience a great muscle pump and probably get that last rep. After a long day's work, protein shakes and BCAAs are the kings. It's also a good time to restock your creatine stores.

RULE # 9 - Similarly, you need to eat a hearty protein meal with plenty of carbs within 60-90 minutes of completion of your workout. This is necessary to provide the muscle building materials to repair depleted tissue and begin the process of building new muscle. Hint - Bomber Blend protein drinks work great for this. Again, restore creatine levels.

RULE #10 - The most important nutrient in your body is plain water. The quality of your tissues, their performance and their resistance to injury is absolutely dependent on the quality and quantity of the water you drink. Flood yourself throughout the day, especially during the workout.

RULE #11 - Sleep, rest and relaxation are of prime importance. It's during periods of sound sleep that our bodies recuperate and build muscle tissue.

hey
my name is justin, iam almost 18, actually iam 17 years old plus 7 month.
i live in new york.
i was woundering wats the legal age in the us to have sex, and am i free to buy condoms?
tanx for help, and i really appreciate.
reply soon.
Justin

Under 17 years of age: New York law states that a person less than 17 years of age is legally incapable of consenting to sexual intercourse or other sexual contact. These laws are typically known as statutory rape laws.

* If the victim is under 13, and the defendant is at least 18, this constitutes a 1st degree sexual offense. 1st degree crimes are considered the most serious ones and carry the longest penalties.
* If the victim is under 15 and the perpetrator is at least 18, this constitutes a 2nd degree sexual offense. However, if the defendant is less than 4 years older than the victim, this may constitute an affirmative defense. Affirmative defenses are those in which the defendant introduces evidence which negates criminal liability.

Hi- I had sex with my boyfriend about 3 months ago without realizing he had HIV.. I asked him..and he lied and told me he didn't have it..
So- When I went for my yearly doctor check-up(last week).. my doctor wanted to give me an HIV test because I'm homosexual..
and it came out positive.. and I know its from my boyfriend because he's the only one i've had sex with.. ever..
So should I be mad at my boyfriend? or should I be mad at myself because I didn't know he had HIV...

Also- my doctor told me that my HIV is going to result in AIDS in about 5 years..

Please help!
-Jason

Yes you should be mad at your boyfriend. Truly a shame, hang in there bud.

Hey Mike im Jess and im 16 years old...17 in about a month...just giving you some background incase you need to base an answer off of that.
Ok well i am 5'6 and 139 lbs im not fat really but i have huge legs from sprinting in track and a pretty big butt haha i want to know how i can lose some pounds and get a flatter stomach and get rid of that fat that bulges a little in the back over my jeans.

Very pretty. I have a feeling from your pic that you really look just fine and you're worried about a few vanity pounds/inches. I tell people all the time not to worry about that, but I do it anyway so I guess I am just a hypocrite lol.

Now you say you have huge legs and you're pretty much right that they gained their size from your sprinting and it's something to be proud of or at least take as a good thing because strong legs are so important and so few have them...I wish I liked running lol.

Losing pounds and inches all comes down to not only what you eat but when and how you eat it. You look fine to me, all you really need to do is train with weights and do cardio for 45 mins to an hour a day for 3 or 4 days a week. Bing bang boom simple and you can be assured that if you're eating enough (4 times a day) that you will be burning fat and keeping your metabolism in check so you don't get too hungry and prone to overreating/snacking. Consistency is something I must stress to you and the fact that you gotta enjoy this stuff. Don't think of it as a chore, think of it as an essential and part of your lifestyle...you have all your life to get fit and trim and if you keep at the basics like I said then you will go far and continue to impress yourself and find things out about yourself that you never knew. Get going on it ;-)

I am 15/m and want to be a pro wrestler. Not Olympic or college, I mean the stuff on tv (yes I know its mostly fake). I need to get stronger but I dont know how to other than lifting weights. Is there anything I can get at a place like GNC that is not harmfull for someone my age and that is LEGAL? Any other things I can do?

You're looking for something that's as good as steroids and is legal eh? Well the bad news is that there is nothing in the world that will build muscles and strength like steroids, they definitely DO work the really bad news is that they are illegal and the substances called Prohormones which were the closest thing you could get to them have also been outlawed. You are 15 years old and these have no business being in your life to begin with but I figured I would let you know the facts.

Before you go trucking over to GNC and talk to the salesperson who totally hypes up the new protein powder or Nitric Oxide pill saying it gives 1000000% more strength and lean mass in 3 weeks I suggest you get your workout and diet in order. Train hard, train heavy and learn to love the iron- wanna look and be strong like a wrestler? Well you gotta train like one. Until you're eating plenty of protein, lifting religiously and have the clean diet where you eat 4 or 5 times a day stay away from "Wonder supplement X" at GNC and if you do go just get yourself a bottle of protein powder, don't listen to the idiot trying to sell anything else to you because I worked there and we were always encouraged to take advantage of gullible people who didn't know much about supplements and try to sell them the most expensive bottle of this or that.

You got all the time in the world dude, don't try and rush it...just lift and eat and all will be good.

i have a problem with my weight. my mother works from 3pm-11pm, so that leaves dinner up to my dad. My dad can't cook. He can only barbeque, and make chicken cutlets...and pasta. So every night we either have something barbequed [like hamburgers, hot dogs, etc.] or pizza or fast food. I have high cholesteral and I'm supposed to be trying to get it down since it's very high, but I can't do it with the way my dad "cooks". I do have a treadmill and I try to run a mile whenever I can fit in, but I do have school and other activities so it's hard to exercise everyday. What could I do to help bring down my cholesteral and lose some weight [or gain some muscle, either way] when I have to eat this food? I'm 13 by the way, so I can't exactly cook myself.

Well contrary to popular belief the ingestion of actual cholesterol doesn't lead to higher LDL (bad cholesterol) levels...rather the ingestion of saturated fat and trans fat as these contain the most hydrogen molecules on the lipid structure...hence it's saturated. This doesn't mean all fat is bad for you and you actually need healthy fats for organ lining and homeostasis maintenance- these are polyunsaturated and monounsaturated fats. Extra virgin olive oil, vegetable oil, peanut oil and sesame oil are great sources of this and most people should fry in this instead of butter or other worse options. Grilling is good so I think that maybe when whoever cooks they should make enough for several days and just store the grilled chicken and pasta in Tupperware containers to have as ready to eat healthy meals. Mix in some fruits and veggies, water, juice or low fat milk and you have yourself a pretty healthy meal plan.

Eating fiber rich foods helps to lower your cholesterol, obviously oatmeal is a premium choice as it is one of the best sources and it's easy to make; fruits and veggies are good sources as well as bran flakes cereal. But first let's ask what is fiber? Fiber is basically a carbohydrate that your body can't digest which is why it is so good for the "internal plumbing" Instead of using regular bleached white flour when cooking or baking you can use oatflour which is just taking regular oatmeal and putting it in a blender on high until it's like flour. This gives an additional boost of fiber, slow digesting blood sugar stabilizing carbohydrates, protein and it's fat free. That's just one idea for you to consider.

You don't have to become a vegetarian and give up milk and eggs and all that alarmist bullshit. What you just have to do is learn how to manage your intake of these foods so that they don't become detrimental to your health. Opt for lower fat foods and of course continue to exercise your 45 mins to an hour 4 times a week and keep your diet consistent.

[view]

how many calories do you have to burn to lose a pound?

Don't start with trying to count calories and getting all precise..it NEVER works. Yea its 3,500 cals but everyone is so different and metabolizes calories in their own ways. The better strategy is to exercise, and plan on how to eat so that you can prevent putting a pound of fat on to begin with. I don't care what anyone says the bottom line is always a person's diet...without diet the results are zero or very little.

Just eat sensible and exercise, you'll be fine and you'll lose plenty of weight.

hi, well im not a politics type of guy, so i dont know why george bush and tony blair are hated so much. what have they done thats so bad?

Well I'll give you my opinion as someone who is among the few who answered who is actually eligible to vote:

Why do people think the President has done a bad job?

Because people are complacent and will believe anything they hear- most people get their news from NBC, ABC, CBS, CNN (Clinton News Network) and these are very very liberal left wing stations who would of course be opposed to the conservative right wing image that Bush represents. Bush this and he led us into a war for oil and it's an unjust war and all of that "Iam a pussy democrat liberal" blah blah blah waaa waaaaaa. Want the truth? Here it is:

Liberals do nothing but talk and talk and PLAN on how things could be better and how they can take YOUR money and give it to people who not only need it because of an illness or a handicap of some sort which is absolutely acceptable- but people who are just too plain lazy to work. So basically they believe people shouldn't be held responsible for their own actions and they have "Rights". That is until of course they get a fresh piece of conservative right wing meat to munch on. People don't realize that there are people in this world who will stop at nothing to see us dead, we are scum that must be eliminated to them so we're beyond the whole "Let's talk this thing out" phase. We need REAL action because we live in REAL dangerous times. So my message- IF YOU'RE AN ANTI-WAR LIBERAL THEN WHY DON'T YOU GO WALK THROUGH BAGHDAD AND SEE JUST HOW MUCH THEY VALUE YOUR FUCKING OPINION.

Do you understand that by going into Iraq, Bush took down a government and it's leader who posed one of the worst threats to our security as Americans?

Do you ever hear that the job market for people coming out of school is the best that it has ever been or that the economy is thriving? NO because the left wing mainstream media doesn't want you to know that.

O yea and NEWSFLASH for people who blame Bush for the increased oil prices- HE DOESN'T CONTROL THAT DUHHH it's basic economics- Supply&Demand- more people demand it so the price to obtain it will go up, hey the oil companies are privately run and this is CAPITALISM and not COMMUNISM right? WATCH THE FOX NEWS CHANNEL FOR THE TRUTH PEOPLE.

People don't like George Bush? TOUGH SHIT you're stuck with him until 2008 and it's his last term and let's all pray that another conservative Republican is put in office and not some idiot radical liberal democrat (Might as well be called socialist) - want a REALLY bad administration- look up that Democrat joke of a president Jimmy Carter.
