3,500
the body burns about 700+ calories.
swimming for about an hour can burn at least 600.
but if you're actually swimming.
hiking or running for about an hour will make you lose calories fast. (and more than 100)

good luck

:)

It's 3,500 calories but just because you might be burning calories you are going to start losing fat and gaining muscle as you burn calories and since muscle weighs more then fat you might gain a couple of pounds. I hope this helps! ♥

Don't start with trying to count calories and getting all precise..it NEVER works. Yea its 3,500 cals but everyone is so different and metabolizes calories in their own ways. The better strategy is to exercise, and plan on how to eat so that you can prevent putting a pound of fat on to begin with. I don't care what anyone says the bottom line is always a person's diet...without diet the results are zero or very little.

Just eat sensible and exercise, you'll be fine and you'll lose plenty of weight.

Orpheus answered Friday September 1 2006, 5:46 pm:
3500 is correct - 1 pound of fat is roughly 3500 calories of energy. The average person can use 100 calories by running or walking a mile. That may not seem like much, but by increasing your energy expenditure by 250 calories a day and decreasing your energy intake by 250 calories a day, you can lose one pound of fat in one week.

3500. And remember as you lose weight, you'll gain muscle if you're also exercising. So don't be discouraged if you gain a pound. =)
