Yea its 3,500 cals but everyone is so different and metabolizes calories in their own ways. The better strategy is to exercise, and plan on how to eat so that you can prevent putting a pound of fat on to begin with. I don't care what anyone says the bottom line is always a person's diet...without diet the results are zero or very little.

That may not seem like much, but by increasing your energy expenditure by 250 calories a day and decreasing your energy intake by 250 calories a day, you can lose one pound of fat in one week.
