I'm 14/f
I think im fat and I wanna lose weight. I don't eat breakfast or lunch and barely dinner. All my friends are worried about me and try to get me to eat but I just say i'm not hungry. My question is, is this that serious and that unhealthy? Thanks!<3
ElmosBrightStar answered Sunday July 31 2005, 12:39 pm: yes. EXTREMELY. You need to eat. If you are worried about your weight, excersize. Don't starve yourself. Believe me, it is not worth it. Your friends are just looking out for you. Don't continue your eating pattern, you will hurt yourself a lot. [ ElmosBrightStar's advice column | Ask ElmosBrightStar A Question ]
Friday_im_in_love answered Sunday July 31 2005, 12:04 am: I'm not usually hungry either since I wake up so late. Not eatting wont help you lose weight, it actually makes you gain it. It could possibly be a sign of having a disease or soemthing but I highly dought it, but that doesnt mean you shouldnt look into it. X_Amanda_X answered Saturday July 30 2005, 8:43 pm: Yes that is unhealthy. Especially the fact that you skip breakfast. You get all your energy for the day from breakfast. I've read that if you skip at least 1 meal a day, you are on your way to an eating disorder.
piinkqlitter answered Saturday July 30 2005, 12:27 am: omg, kristina, try to eat something! anything works! please dont do this to your self, there really is no reason for this probleem, please try to get some food.
fatalxheart answered Friday July 29 2005, 9:35 pm: If you don't eat, your body starts collecting fat. And if you don't eat breakfast, your metabolism will slow down, then you'll be fat.
You're 14. Don't worry about being fat. Really. I'm 14 also, and I think I could lose a bit of fat on my body, but that's how every girl thinks. I just try eating as healthy and correctly as possible and exercise.
So yes, it's serious AND unhealthy. [ fatalxheart's advice column | Ask fatalxheart A Question ]

gUeSsHoO278 answered Friday July 29 2005, 6:47 pm: It's very unhealthy and serious....especially at your age...when your body needs more nutrients than ever. You can easily lose weight in a good manner by eatting lots of veggies & fruits...the only foods that really pack on bad weight are the ones high in carbs & other obvious junky stuff. Don't stave yourself...its just not worth it....the weight your losing is going to come back no matter what because your doing it in an unhealthy way...if you lose weight in a healthy way by exercising and eating nutrients...you will lose that fat for good [ gUeSsHoO278's advice column | Ask gUeSsHoO278 A Question ]
x0oLoViNiTo0x answered Friday July 29 2005, 6:15 pm: YES! it's very very very unhealthy. Most people think not eating will help you lose weight, when, in reality, it makes you gain weight. When your body gets so hungry from you not eating, it tries to almost eat itself, and it causes you to gain weight. Just go on a healthy diet, and excercise more often! Hope I helped! X0C0URT answered Friday July 29 2005, 5:58 pm: In a word, NO! This is completely unhealthy. Trust me I know a ton about dieting and stuff. Not eating can actually cause you to GAIN weight! I'm not sure why, but it's been proven. Plus there are certain nurtrients you need to survive. You're much better off sticking to a healthy diet where you get 3 sqaure meals a day. You can eat low calorie foods, but skipping out on meals is not the way to go. Hope this helps!

jbdreamer answered Friday July 29 2005, 5:02 pm: Yes not eating is very unhealthy. Your friends are justifyed by being worried. By starving yourself your body slows your metabolism and starts storing more fat cells. This is a bad thing to teach your body, and will haunt you the rest of your life. As you get older the harder it will become to keep off the weight - in the long run you may end up gaining weight. And by not eating you also loose a lot of your daily energy.
ncblondie answered Friday July 29 2005, 5:02 pm: It sounds unhealthy and very serious to me. You are lucky to have friends that care enough to speak up about it. All_4_Him_4eva answered Friday July 29 2005, 5:00 pm: Actually, yea, that's unhealthy, simply put. There is a BIG difference between a diet and starvation. Granted, you may not feel starved, but you really are on a personal starvation diet. A diet is a strategic, set out plan which you follow, get ALL your essential and at least most of your non-essential vitamins, etc. and your body gets all the energy and calories it needs vs. your work out plan. Starving yourself is when you go without food or on a very limited eating plan, like you are yourself, and don't get nearly enough of what your body needs. Starvation is, believe it or not, worse than the Atkins diet b/c not only are you depriving yourself of carbs but also calories (which is what your body takes in as energy and stores as fat) and many other vitamins. If you don't get enough of what you should, eventually your body will begin to break down it's fat reserves and, in some cases at the sametime, in some cases after your fat reserves are gone, and, in certain areas of your body, before it even touches the fat, it breaks down the muscle. This can be very damaging and harmful. I suggest pick up on a sport or outdoor or active hobby that will burn calories. And at the same time, eat carb-rich foods, drink water, and watch the amount of fat and protein you take in. I do suggest taking in a good amount of protein but not all at once if you are active b/c it can cause cramps during strenuous exercise. I believe certain chocolate things and energy bars work for me if eaten an hour or two before I play baseball or something high-energy-requiring like that. Oh yeah, and you need to eat a good breakfast, like a good bowl of cereal (not the chocolaty, sugary junk either) or something else that will provide you with energy for the day, as your body is already slightly deprived of energy from the night's sleep. Good Luck and I Hope everything works out well for ya. [ All_4_Him_4eva's advice column | Ask All_4_Him_4eva A Question ]
DangerWench answered Friday July 29 2005, 4:59 pm: Yes it's unhealthy and will actually cause you to GAIN weight in the long run!
Our bodies were created with "lean times" in mind. So when the body doesn't get enough food, it thinks; "Oh No! Famine!" And slows down your metabolism so that it doesn't burn your fat reserves as quickly, and stores every scrap it can as more fat. When you start eating normally again (which you will either do, or die), it might stop storing or it might store like mad because it's scared the famine might come back and it's trying to keep enough fat to keep you alive for the next time. Either way, you will usually keep extra fat, "just in case".
Some people do this over and over and get bigger and bigger. It's called Yo-Yo dieting.
Our bodies were meant to eat! 3 meals a day at least, or many smaller meals are even better to keep your metabolism going.
You don't want to "lose weight" so much as you want to "lose fat" and tone up. Dieting MAKES fat in the long run! Lose fat by exercise, and lots of it! Stay active and exercise every day, go for walks, go swimming, play sports or tennis or badminton or Frisbee or volleyball, etc. You can do specific exercises like crunches or use exercise machines too, but stay active. Also drink lots and lots of water, at least 6-8 glasses a day, and stay away from soda, even diet soda.
Do NOT rely on the scales to tell you how you are doing. Rely on how your clothes are fitting, or if you need something more specific, use a flexible measuring tape and measure yourself and keep a record.
The reason for this is that muscle weighs more than fat, and as you exercise, you will create muscle. Which is a GOOD thing because muscle burns fat just sleeping! BUT it can be frustrating to exercise like crazy for 2 weeks and gain 2 pounds. So make sure you go by your actual body tone and shape, NOT by weight. The more muscle you add, the more fat you will burn, but these things take time. [ DangerWench's advice column | Ask DangerWench A Question ]

Ahhh that's your first biggest mistake. I know you think by skipping meals and not eating at all it will help you lose weight. Actually that makes you gain more weight. And if you keep not eating you might get very sick. Yes it is very unhealthy. Please stop. If you need any advice on how to lose weight the right way then i'll be more then happy to help. Another thing is if you choose not to eat alot in a day you should at least eat breakfast. That's that most important meal of the day. It's the one that gives you the most energy. Just make sure you eat something light if you dont want to gain alot of weight. I have many websites that you can go to read about this. Just ask for them if you want.
If you have any more questions dont be scared or shy to comment or im me on aim.

not eating [or barely eating] is definently NOT the way to go because you can have an eating disorder and all this other bad stuff
and instead of not eating try these things-->
its summer so if you can get to the pool do laps[swimmings really good 4 you it uses all of your muscles] have races with friends for fun
if you just sitting around watching tv try doing crunches or push ups and stretch
substitute junk food for healthy stuff
vickiooos answered Friday July 29 2005, 4:40 pm: acutally.. when you skip ENOUGH meals, then your body starts eating itself. but if you just skip a few and then you eat, then you'll take in double the calories. it's like your body realizes it neeeds to appreciate the food even more, so it takes in even more fat and proteins and junk when you do eat. it's not really healthy to do that, you HAVE to eat. but if you want to lose weight then just make the portions smaller. don't cut out eating completely. you can start working out more, do more activities, all that junk.
i don't have a problem with my weight but i did want to tone up my body so everynight i'd do crunches and sit ups while watching a movie or something. the movie distracted me so it was easier to do more and more of the exercise.

Xo_Ashie_oX answered Friday July 29 2005, 4:23 pm: that is really unhealthy!! when people stop eating, and then when they get hungry decide to eat, they gain weight... and also... if you stop eatin all together, its gonna lead you to anorexia... i suggest that you try getting involved into a sport, that way instead of thinkin about eating, you put your mind on something else... thatll help you lose some weight... and then dont eat snacks... but its very very unhealthy to just not eat at all, like during regular meals... so just pick up on a sport, and chill out on the snacks... i hope i helped... sorry if i didnt... xdesireex0 answered Friday July 29 2005, 4:21 pm: Well I personally view that as unhealthy because you are basically shutting down your internal system. I understand that you want to lose weight, I'm in the same boat as you, but i have been losing in a healthy way. You should eat a couple small meals a day. Don't just stop eating 2 meals and barely and thing for another meal. So like I said a couple small meals a day should really help out. Hope I helped!

karenR answered Friday July 29 2005, 4:15 pm: Yes it is unhealthy. It could make you gain weight too. I'm not kidding I'm speaking from experience. Your body goes into starvation mode and instead of burning those calories that make you lose weight they store them. So eat 3 meals a day. Watch your portion size and exercise and you will be a LOT better off. :) [ karenR's advice column | Ask karenR A Question ]
