Need a job

Question Posted Friday July 29 2005, 3:37 pm

I'm seventeen and I'd like to get a job, but I am clueless on some places to apply. My previous job was VERY stressful, so I want a job where I'm not under a lot of pressure. I don't want your typical teen job (food places/restaurants, grocery stores, or movies.) Clothing stores, little shops, and tanning salons are more of the kind of job I want. Office jobs wouldn't be too bad either. Any ideas on where else I should look into?

Additional info, added Friday July 29 2005, 3:39 pm:
By the way I have experience: answering phones, working with computers, typing 100+ wpm, front desk/customer service skills..

The first thing to think about is how far you will be able to travel to get to your job. This will help you narrow down the area. From there, do some research on all the businesses around that area, and make a list of what you might be interested in. It's hard for me to name some places to try for because I don't know what kind of businesses there are in your area. When I started looking for my first job, I was like you. I didn't want any of the "typical" jobs. But if you don't have any experience (not sure if you do or not), a lot of places won't even hire you, so as much as you don't want to, you may end up having to start at one of those places. Plus, a lot of small shops and tanning salons are family owned and don't hire a lot of people, since they're small. You should still apply at those places anyway, but in the end you may have to stick with a typical job, at least long enough to get some experience to put on your resume.

A mall would be an excellent place to try. Hot Topic, Hollister, and American Eagle are very good companies to work for and between the 3 you have almost every clothing style you could want.

to start off you should work at mc donald then move your way up.what really matters is if you have a diploma and if you do than sooner or later you won't have a problem.are you being shy to look for a job because the job doesnt come you.you would have to come to it.

When I was in high school I worked at a department store. It was great because it was a big enough company they were able to be VERY flexible with my hours. And your not stuck behind a counter all day, you walk around and help customers. I made a lot of great friends, and also had a nice discount. I worked in accessoires which I loved because I never got stuck folding clothes.

You should try getting a job at Abercrombie, Americain Eagle, and those cool stores. Also try little trinket stores, tanning places, or best buy.
I hope i helped!
