Deanimal answered Monday March 14 2005, 6:34 pm: Yes. Teachers can bring down grades for pretty much any reason, if appropriate. If they have asked you to bring the materials, you should. [ Deanimal's advice column | Ask Deanimal A Question ]
sunshine805 answered Tuesday March 1 2005, 12:35 am: Sure, why not? They're teachers, they can do anything.(haha!) But honestly, yeah, they could lower your grade b/c you weren't prepared for class and that's being "irresponsible."
Hope I helped!

selectopaque answered Tuesday March 1 2005, 12:20 am: Yes, definately. Part of your class is beign prepared. You are not only learning everything related to the subject, you are learning how to be better prepared in the world. If you forget your briefcase, or whatever other tools you need, for your job, then you would be totally screwed for the day. This way, you only get a slightly worse grade.
It's much less drastic than what the real world will be like.
xplisit15 answered Sunday February 27 2005, 5:27 pm: I guess it depends, if you are in a class where there is a participation grade and you arent prepared for class, yeah they can do that. If its like an english class where participation isnt part of the grade, it shouldnt really be done. Talk to your parents, tell them you forgot the packet or whatever..they'll back you up and think its stupid and call the school and complain, lol. At my school, you get graded within the first week of your class on if you have the proper materials or not. If they want a three subject notebook and you could only get a one subject, teachers throw a fit and take 2 points off your average. Yeah, teachers are cooky and think they can do whatever they want. SeXoNtheBeAch answered Sunday February 27 2005, 4:40 pm: well it depends, usually if your unprepared it means u couldnt participate, and thats apart of your grade. IT kinda sounds unfair tho, i would talk to her bout it. [ SeXoNtheBeAch's advice column | Ask SeXoNtheBeAch A Question ]
FunnyCide answered Sunday February 27 2005, 3:54 pm: Yes, unfortunatly, the teacher is allowed to do that. Because the book or packet was required or needed for the class, and you forgot to bring it, the teacher is allowed to lower your grade. Yeah.. if this happened to you, maybe you could do some extra credit work or something to bring the grade up. How much the teacher lowered the grade depends on how much you needed the book or packet.

XxKaTiExLeIgHxX answered Sunday February 27 2005, 2:35 pm: yes...they can bring down your grade if you are not prepared for class...ex- missing homework, no pencil/pen/folder, no book/packet, no paper...etc...they are allowed to because your not prepared for class which " takes time away from the other students working/learning time because of the having to give/find one of thoes objects to a student which causes them to have to stop teaching and help a student " i know...it stinks...alot..but he/she shouldnt take off too many points off your grade...hope i helped [ XxKaTiExLeIgHxX's advice column | Ask XxKaTiExLeIgHxX A Question ]
MummuM answered Sunday February 27 2005, 1:56 pm: Yes, this is allowed. Every teacher is different, many do have this rule. They would like their students to come to class and be prepared. If you aren't, they'll usually take points off and that will lower your final mark.

ShortyJS answered Sunday February 27 2005, 1:07 pm: yes they can because that's part of being prepared for their class and if your not they will take points off, and sumtimes give you detention. it sucks
Erinn_the_bamf answered Sunday February 27 2005, 12:54 pm: It depends on your school's critearia. For example in my school if you forget something you need it's either off class participation or homework grades. Many school do take some points off but you really can't lower it a whole grade unless you forget things a lot. So look in your school's handbook. Karen answered Sunday February 27 2005, 12:39 pm: Yes, a teacher is allowed to bring down your grade if you forget something that you needed for class and I think they shouldn't do that to you. If your teacher specifically told you that if you don't bring it in that he/she will bring down your grade, then that is allowed. Every teacher grades differently but this is allowed.

XoXoDaniXoXo answered Sunday February 27 2005, 12:36 pm: yes, they have to because you forgot and you were supposed to remember it. teachers do that to teach a lesson so you remember it next time.
Yea, that usually happens if your not prepared for class. But her grading system might work differently.
But remember, it is NOT allowed for her to bring your grade down because she doesn't like you or holds a grudge against you.. :)
Hope I helped :)

apshurby answered Sunday February 27 2005, 12:13 pm: If the teacher said that bringing in the book or packet that you need will count for points the teacher could bring down your grade. [ apshurby's advice column | Ask apshurby A Question ]
