i hear constantly about 14 year olds having sex... this is scary. what has the world come to? one day people will be having sex at 8 and then people will finally realise there is a problem. i dont see why 14 year olds have sex when they are so young... at 14 i was like, gross, why have sex? i'm 17 now and i am a virgin... i am proud of that and i like it coz guys respect me and i know a guy isn't going out with me for sex. what i want to know is why do girls lose that respect at such a young age? and how young were people when they lost their virginity???

I'm 15. I personally think it is a dumb ass thing to do to have sex until you are ready. I don't believe that there is any age limit. (Well.. I do... I mean...as you said...8 year olds are not going to cut it...) I believe you wait until you are ready and I personally know that I am not ready at all. I'm with my boyfriend and I care about him a lot, but it is not love yet. Even if it was, I don't know if I would do anything with him. I don't believe that fourteen year old's are always fully aware of the consequences that come with sex, but that doesn't mean I disagree with sex before marriage. I don't think all girls who have sex before marriage are easy, because I myself am not a virgin.
I know I'm not easy or a whore, and I'm certainly no slut; guys and girls both still respect me because I am still a respectable person--not being a virgin doesn't change that. Having sex doesn't make me stupid or any less of a person, but I just couldn't imagine being mentally or emotionally ready to make a decision like losing my virginity at the tender age of 14 or 15.
I think it's a little bit sad the way future generations or denigrating themselves and putting themselves at risk of STDs or teen parenthood. It's something that should be changed, but how? Do we force all people to follow one religion? Do we make a law forbidding sex before marriage?
It's hard to find a solution because there is such a fine line between doing what you think is right and what actually is right.

I agree 100 percent. There are a lot of pregnant young teens, and sometimes I feel like crying about it, and I just think "man, what happened to people wanting to save themselves for marriage." And the only answer I know is love. When you fall in love young and you feel the strong attraction to that guy, its like you just do it, and it happens. I'm 14 and still safe, and I'm trying to save myself until the right person comes. But, I think that maybe you'd understand better if you were 14 and were in love, I know its no excuse, but you just forget about that time when you were 11, saying "I'm waiting until marriage." Young girls are impressionable. They hear a friend got it on and then they want to get it on. They don't look at the amount of self respect they are surrendering over to this guy. There are a variety of reasons why they could be losing their virginity at such a young age. It could be that the media is constantly "sexualizing" television, music, and magazines. Nowadays it's common for "tweens" to wear a lot of makeup, dress sexy, and unfortunately get pressured into having sex. But also it could be peer pressure, "love", or just the desire to be an adult. The list is endless.
When I was that age, sex wasn't common, but sexual play was. As for your question on the age I lost my virginity, it was a few days before my 17th birthday. I know I was young still, and if you believe me or not, "it just happened." It wasn't planned, it just happened. Even so, I don't regret my decision because me and my boyfriend have been together for nearly a year when it had happened and are still together today (2.5+ years). In a sense it has strengthened our relationship because we felt we loved each other enough to share what's most personal with each other. Don't get the wrong impression that I was naive, "believing" I was in love. We talked about it for months before anything had happened, that's how much it meant to us.

I am fourteen and I know alot of people I hang out aren't versions [sometimes depending on what you consider virgin]. I think that with us, at least it's not even about being cool anymore. In seventh grade and some parts of eighth grade people bragged about having oral sex or sex but it's not really like that anymore. People tend to not have boyfriends/girlfriends anymore, they just hook-up with friends so you can have the friendship and great relationship and a sexual aspect as well without any commitment. I think that oral sex and sex is so common now that people don't really think too much of it anymore. I don't know anyone who would have sex with a stranger but love and commitment to each other doesn't seem to be an issue anymore.
I'm still a virgin, but sex isn't gross to me at all and it's tempting sometimes when I've had the opportunity, so I can sort of see why my friends do what they do. There is a part of me that wants to not be in a relationship, and have sex with a friend so I know what the terms of the relationship are and everything is clear and at the same time I'm doing it with someone I care about. I don't think I would do that, simply because I don't think it would be fufilling. They think it's "cool", knowing that they can now talk about how they lost their virginity so guys will notice them. Movies and shows also have an impact on girls and that's why some lose their virginity at a young age. Well, I for one I am not a virgin. I lost my virginity a few months ago to my boyfriend of 9 months. We did it because we felt that we were ready and we love eachother so we wanted to take it to the next level. There is so much pressure in todays society about having sex and you think "Hey, everyone's doing it, why not me?" And it shouldn't be that way. Both me and my boyfriend do regret having sex at such a very young age and if we could take it back we would but in reality, you can't. I did it because I was in love and I wanted to take my relationship to the next level. With other girls, they do it because they <i>think</i> they're in love and they just want to please their boyfriend. It's also a stupid popularity contest. If the most popular girl has had sex with this guy and that guy and all of her friends have had sex with so and so and so and so, I should do it to because maybe they'll like me. I was not pressured in any way to do it, it was simply my mistake that I made in doing it. Both of us regret doing it and since that day haven't done it at all. We've come to realize all of the risks that we are taking in doing this and we want to wait until we are older to share that moment again. I have only been with ONE guy and I only plan to be with ONE guy. For girls that's how they feel but then, if their boyfriend breaks up with them and they had sexual intercourse, they feel like there is something missing from their new relationship and start to have sex and it's the same vicious cycle.
