Q: I need names of bands like Red Jumpsuit Apparatus/Boys Like Girls/Panic! At The Disco/MCR!
Any suggestions? Please please PLEASE no screamo! If there's a couple lines of screaming I can stand it in a song, but not like heavy screamo.
I've been hooked on a band called Dogs Die In Hot Cars.

If you're looking for music similar to something you like, try using Pandora internet radio. You put in the name of a band or a song that you like, and it'll play some music that's like it. Then you can figure out what you like and download it!

www.pandora.com is the link for it.

Q: my whole life my parents were hardly ever on my case about anything. Now im 18 and im trying to get out of the house more. And they dont like it they say im never home to do anything. I work retail 35-40 hours a week and the expect me to come home after work and clean the house & do a million loads of laundry. My mom has a job and she doesnt do much at her job except sit around. But she doesnt come home and clean up anything because she believes that since she works she doesnt have to clean.

i have 2 siblings that are old enough to do luandry and they havent touched the washer or dryer since we moved a year ago.

i bought myself a tracfone with my money and my dad told me i dont deserve it.

i started seeing this guy and my mom tells me that im not aloud to touch him, kiss him, be out late with him, go back to his place. BUt before i turned 18 i was aloud out with every guy that i wanted to be out with.

I feel that im old enough to make my own decisions but my parents arent making life any easier for me. Im so sick of this crap.

please give me some great advice.
If you're still living under their roof and you're not paying rent, you do have an obligation to help. Unfortunately, you also have to live under their rules.

If you think that you're old enough to make your own decisions, you should be old enough to be living on your own and taking care of yourself.

I know it's probably not what you want to hear, but I've been there and done it. I'm 19 now, living on my own, putting myself through school. I also have full freedom. I can do what I want, when I want, but I have to deal with the consequences.

Long story short... start taking on more responsibility, then you'll deserve more privileges. If you want freedom, you have to stop depending on your parents.

Q: Female. 13.
I'm mature for my age. Not boasting or whatever, it's just a wellknown fact for people who know me well. Well, I'm not talking about a relationship until marriage or whatever, but nothing between me and a boy ever lasts. I went to a Christian school for my whole life up until this year, so all the guys were to nerdy and weird to ask ANYONE out, so that kind of ruined it for me. I'm in 8th grade now and I go to a public school and a super big church. Guys always ask me for my number and stuff and we talk, but it never sticks. Mostly it's guys 15 and up, but, that's what I like because boys my age are grossly immature and little.
And, usually it's not my personality that makes it not stick, sometimes it's my age. When I was ten I'd have 15 year olds ask me out, then when they found out I was 10 they ignored me.
So, my question is, how can I make stuff last longer and how can I make people forget about my age?

Thanks :]
I hate to say this, but age really does mean something! A fifteen year old has nothing in common with a ten year old. Even though you're mature (I was too) it makes a huge difference. Think about a 13 year old dating an 18 year old; their partner is out of high school, and they're still in elementary!

I know this stinks, but until you're at an age where desirable boys can date you without feeling creepy, you're going to have to wait, or just settle for immature boys.

A little piece of advice... it's not the end of the world if you're not dating right now. Enjoy your young teens while you have them! There's plenty of time to date when you're 16+, so just enjoy the single life while you can :)

Q: ok, so here is the question. but im just wondering.
my friend said if you give a blow to a guy and u dont spit out the sperm you can get pregnet.
is that true? how do you play anywyas:S
You absolutely cannot get pregnant from oral sex. In order to be impregnated, a woman needs to have semen enter her vagina. There is no connection between the esophagus and your reproductive organs.

Q: Ok well i've heard that Limewire is illegal. Is it?
and if it is... then why doesn't the police do anything about it????
I mean there's like a thousand people who use limewire and if it's illegal, why don't they get caught?
is there like a special program that when you download limewire, the police can find you and track you down and you get arrested for illegally downloading things?
i'm so confused!
Our rules up here in Canada are different... it's not illegal to download things for your own personal use. It is, however, illegal to share what you have! By sharing, you are using your files for non-personal purposes... which is against the law.

Don't worry though... I think the chances of you having to run from the law after downloading a few songs are pretty slim :P

Q: so i'm going to college next year and i currently have a fairly new toshiba laptop with windows...i was wondering if a mac would be better for college? i know they're better with graphics and such and i can use both but i've been using a pc longer. are there any college students who have an opinion on this?
please no answers from 13 year olds
I'm in my second year of college... and I'd say to stick with a PC unless you're going into a graphics-intensive program. So, if you're taking graphic arts, then yes, you might want to consider it.

In the rest of the world, nobody really uses Macs. You'll find that in the workplace, you'll be dealing with PCs.

Also, Macs aren't compatible with some software, which can be an issue if you're using specialized software (like I've had to in my engineering courses)

Q: Hey do you know any colleges that are easy to get into in new york or california
Unfortunately, I know absolutely nothing about American schools (I'm from Ontario, Canada) so I can't really help you here!

My suggestion is to go to your school guidance counsellor and check out admission averages. It all varies based on what program you want to get into.

Q: Where can I get a good, cheap laptop?

LINKS ARE GREATLY APPRECIATED.

Thanks
I got mine at Future Shop. It's a Gateway, and it only cost 500$!

What you should look for is offers on refurbished laptops. That way you can get more for your money.

Dell is the cheapest you can get a fresh off the lines laptop, but they're lower end.

So yes, look for a refurbished one and you can get much better quality.

Q: How do you make layers?meat first or cheese or pasta? I just need the layering thats it thxs in advance.
I usually put a layer of plain tomato sauce on the bottom so it doesn't stick, then a layer of pasta, then meat, then cottage cheese. I repeat it, and then put regular cheese on top. Yummy!

Q: i've been getting insane bruises lately!! i have two bruises on both knees from ice skating and falling. I have a bruise on my right arm for slamming it on the door, and now i have a slight bruise on the side of my face by the cheek when i feel and hit the face on my floor today ... any advice on what to do?? thanks in advance.
Ahaha... I had to deal with this a lot when I was doing karate. I actually had a teacher notice, and I was called down to the office to talk to the principal and the police, because they thought I was being abused!

There is one trick that just about everyone I did karate with swore by, though... Arnica. You can get it in either a cream or a pill. It's an herbal supplement you can use.

Q: please! i have the worst hangover ever! please tell me somthing that can help avoiding it , not medicines or stuff like that something that's easy to get ,
A little advice from a university student with a lot of experience in the area... :P

I guess I'm a little late answering, but in the future, try drinking sports drinks (like Gatorade). It helps to replenish the electrolytes and fluid that you have lost because of the diuretic effect of the alcohol.

Also, eating eggs really does help! Eggs have a chemical in them that breaks down the toxin resulting from your liver breaking down alcohol.

Good luck! (And in the future, make sure you drink water while you're consuming alcohol... it really does prevent hangovers!)

Q: Well, my boyfriend is allergic to "methylparabens" which is found in most lotions, shampoos, soaps, and other things you use on your skin. He said he tried using other lotions without the ingredient but he still breaks out and itches like crazy. I just need to know is there anything that can help him stop breaking out or itching. He can barely take showers because his skin dries out and makes it all worse. And I feel really bad about all this because I probably use lotions and stuff he is allergic to but I don't know. He's been to doctors and hospitals and such and no one could help. Does anyone know what he should do?
As a person with some severe allergies, I'm going to tell you that it's VERY important to your relationship for you to try to find alternatives.

My worst allergy is cats, and my boyfriend kept forgetting, and bringing me to places that have cats, and I ended up in the hospital with a severe asthma attack. He felt really bad after that, and that's something that nobody should have to go through.

If you're not sure if something has methylparabens in it, try calling their information number, or e-mailing the company for the information.

If it means you having to go without makeup, don't worry! He'll think you're even more beautiful because you're thinking of him and making sacrifices on his behalf.

If his skin is drying out, is he using hydrocortisone cream? I have eczema, and that's what I'm given. It's a steroid cream that helps retain moisture in the skin.

Q: I'm a girl who will be turning 16 in February. I'm a virgin. Do you have to go to the gynocologist if you're not sexually active and you don't have any vaginal or reproductive problems? If so, when should you start going? Also, how do you find a gynocologist? Thanks very much.
First of all, the recommended age to start getting gynecological exams is 18, or when you become sexually active. So, since you're neither and you're not having problems, you don't need to get one yet.

However, you really don't need to go to a gynecologist unless you have a problem. Your family doctor will usually do the necessary examinations in regular cases.

Q: this sounds really crazy but i dont know what to belive in ! i have been baptized etc but i dont belive in god, jesus , any of it my mum baptised me so i didnt have a say my step sister belives in 14th century witch craft and im interested as my sister told me that there first rule is " do what u please aslong as it does not hurt a soul" and that makes soo much scence to me ! i no this sounds different wicht craft etc.... but i want to learn what the do and how to become 1 i cant ask my sister as she and i dont talk etc ... does it mean that because im baptised i cant take another religion where could i find advice on this 14th century witch craft and advice will help xxxx
Well, what you said sounds like common sense, not something that's unique to 14th century witchcraft.

If you're baptized, you're free to change religions. I'm baptized, and I'm an atheist!

Don't worry too much about categorizing yourself. You may just be Agnostic (i.e. believing in the possibility of a higher power, but not believing any specific religion).

Not hurting others is not a religious issue, it's a moral issue. You can be one without the other. As long as you're moral, what you believe doesn't matter!

Q: seriously. why the hell does everyone have a problem with emo kids? like..i dress emo but that doesn't necessarily mean that i go around cutting myself. and even if i did, why do people notice emo people more than everyone else? and why do people say stuff about them? its stupid. half the kids are obviously depressed and i don't think people should make fun of them. then the other half just dresses this way because they really like music.
grr. it just really pisses me off.

i know that wasn't really a question, but still.
The only reason I make fun of the emo sub-culture is because of the mentality "I'm an individual, just like everyone else."

I find that emo people tend to look down on mainstream people for being 'clones', yet they themselves always look the same. They all shop at the same stores, they all wear the same studded belts, etc.

Depression is no excuse. I have depression, and I never developed groupthink because of it. It seems (to me at least) that all these so-called depressed teenagers are doing it for attention, or to be like everyone else. Or, even worse, PRETENDING.

I think it's become more about looking a certain way and fitting in with others, than it is about individuality.

That's why, from the perspective of an outsider :)

Q: It's almost 60 degrees in the middle of January. This is probably the warmest winter that I can remember.I can only imagine what the rest of the year's going to be like.

Is global warming the cause,or are there other factors?
Here's the thing. Everyone's panicking about global warming, but I think the panic is a little unfounded.

Yes, over the past hundred years, the world has warmed up. Now think, how reliable are the temperature records from before 1900?

This may have happened before, and we just don't know about it.

Q: for the past 5 days my stomach has been upset. but over those 5 days ive started throwing up alot using the bathroom alot and getting dizzy also. everytime i stand up to go to the bathroom i feel like im about to fall because i feel so dizzy. my dad says to just drink lots of fluids but that doesnt seem to be helping haha ive been taking pepto-bismol and dayquil and nightquil. any advice on what i can take for my dizzyness (its the dizzyness like when you first get up in the morning and everythings off track)

thanks in advance
Try taking some Gravol. It specifically combats dizziness. My uncle has Meniere's disease, which makes you dizzy like that all the time, and that's what he's supposed to take.

Q: whats in style right now?
Rather than trying to keep up with every single trend that's going on right now (which is nearly impossible!) try buying some classic pieces that will carry you through multiple seasons, and pair them with some trendy items.

Boot-cut jeans, plain t-shirts and tank tops and sweaters are all great items to have. Combine them with what's suggested by the others (unfortunately I'm a bit out of the style loop) and you'll have a more trendy look :)

Q: when im in school. i find it hard to concentarte and im way far behind and i dont get anything im doing so i cant do my homework cuz i dont get it and i doze off a lot and sometimes i just want to burst out crying becuz im so frusterated of trying to get everything and when i read i cant put what i read in my head because i cant focus on what im reading and im just wondering is there something wrong with me??
Have you tried different ways of studying?

I used to get really frustrated last year (first year university) because I couldn't understand things. Here are some things I found helped.

- Study with other people! Do problems together so that you can get someone to explain it to you if you hit a rough spot. Quiz each other. It makes it easier and more fun!
- Reward yourself. Clear a set amount of time to do your work (i.e. 2 hours), then start your work. Bring a bag of small snacks, like Smarties. Every time you accomplish a small task, like reading a paragraph or doing a problem, eat a snack!
- Cat nap. If you're feeling tired, set your alarm for 20 minutes later, and sleep a little. It's just the right amount of time.
- Remember, you can always ask a teacher for help. Most teachers are willing to stay behind after school and help students who are struggling.
- Talk to your doctor about ADD. My friend was diagnosed at 20, and she has found that the help she's getting (like longer testing times, etc)really improves her grades.

Good luck!

Q: Can you ger arrested by using Limewire. Are there any examples?
The consequences of downloading depend on where you live.

If the file you download is not copyrighted, then you're off the hook.

I'm not sure about in the United States, but in Canada I know that the laws state that you can download for your own personal use, and that's legal. It becomes illegal when you share files that you have.

My Personal Forum

My name is Amanda and I'm 26 years old. I'm currently studying electrical engineering. Armed with a fairly odd sense of humour and a sunny outlook on life, I'll take on just about anything. I'm also cussedly stubborn, which has its ups and downs. Things get tough sometimes, and I've never been one to run from it.

In my last 8 years with Advicenators, I've gone from honours student to failing out of university (and getting back on top again!), from single to married, from tenant to homeowner.

Until lately, I have been struggling with a diagnosis of bipolar disorder and OCD, which had basically ruined my life and taken just about everything from me. I'm thankful every day for every experience I've had because of this ordeal, because it's helped to make me who I am today. Things like that really make you appreciate what you do have. Now that I'm back in work and school and starting to become myself again, I couldn't be happier. I credit Advicenators with saving my life back when I was a teenager, which is a big part of why I'm still here.

I won't necessarily give you the answers you want to hear, but I'll always be honest and do my best to help.
