So,how severe is this?

Question Posted Thursday January 4 2007, 5:28 pm

It's almost 60 degrees in the middle of January. This is probably the warmest winter that I can remember.I can only imagine what the rest of the year's going to be like.

Is global warming the cause,or are there other factors?

My Bio teacher said that it was shit I forgot what it was called. But basically, I guess that it's something that happens every 4 years or something, and it's really complicated. Hahaha.. sorry I know I didn't help much. But yea, this weathers insannnnnnnnee! I can't believe it's so warm!

omg! the SAME thing is happening to us right now! i live in michigan and usually all of our winters are freezing cold but its like 45-52 degrees out! i swear it hasnt snowed more than once this winter and the first time it snowed was december 3rd. it might be global warming but there is a slight chance of it. i really dont know what it might be... but its better than blistering cold, right?

hope i helped!

One should never jump to conclusions. As mentioned below, the Earth's temperature can swing on its own, without our help. That being said, I am not saying it isnt global warming.

We are not in a position to make that assesment, only our scientists can do that. Of course they can also get things wrong, however they are in a position to make an educated prediction based on the facts available (rarely do we have an absolute truth, instead we have to make do with the best answer we have at that moment). Anything the rest of us do is pure speculation.

That being said, if I am asked to speculate, I would be most surprised if the tons and tons of crap we have been spewing into the environment wont affect the climate. I remember the when they spoke of global cooling, where they speculated that the polution would shield out the suns rays. Later they speculated that it would instead cause the greenhouse effect. Either way I am not comforted by the knowledge that we have created that layer of pollution irrespective what effect it will have.

Sorry, I got off track (often do on this subject). The answer to your question is a definitive, resounding "maybe" :)

I don't believe in global warming. Nobody seems to remember that global cooling was a big crisis years ago. I think they like to keep the country in constant panic and uproar.
I believe that the earth has gone through many different cycles over it's millions of years.
Just think... There once was an ice age!

well.....depending on where you are....it has been unusually warm around the state of Ohio, where i live. Last time it was this warm though....the blizzard of 1978 happened. and i missed 2 weeks of kidnergarten (im in 8th grade now)
so....without knowing where you live....global warming has affected the climate....but.....still.
maybe it will eventually cool off and we will have some snow!

Here's the thing. Everyone's panicking about global warming, but I think the panic is a little unfounded.

Yes, over the past hundred years, the world has warmed up. Now think, how reliable are the temperature records from before 1900?

This may have happened before, and we just don't know about it.
