"Do not pity the dead, Harry. Pity the living, and, above all those who live without love" - Albus DumbledoreHi, I'm Laura. I'm a senior in college & I'm slowly deciding what I want to do with my life. I love Harry Potter, coffee, writing, and sleeping (amongst other things). I'll never claim to know everything, but I'm confident in my ability to help people with their problems. Feel free to send me an inbox question; I'll get back to you!
A few thoughts I've gathered from my teenage years (and being on this site for most of them!):
1. If you Google song lyrics, the song will come up 99% of the time.
2. Dress to fit your body type, and buy the size that fits. If you're a size 6, squeezing into a 4 won't make you look skinnier. It makes you look fat when you aren't.
3. You will never regret waiting to lose your virginity.
4. There is such a thing as a stupid question, but we're all allowed to ask them.
BU 2014 :)
wicked awesome conversations
^my forum, liven it up a little?
advice
At what age do teenagers usually get past basic levels of thought and begin thinking more intellectually? What I mean is...when do they start to form their own opinions, have some idea of what they want out of life, and just generally gain a more adult outlook?
I think it's around the same time you realize that you're not invincible, and that your life is the esult of choices you make.
Some people get this at age ten. On the other hand, some people are in their late twenties, still don't have a clue, and can't make their own macaroni and cheese & cold cereal.
Usually, I'd say that you know what you want to do with your life after high school, or you at least have a general idea. College/enterning workforce years, you decide what's best for you.
Gaining an adult outlook, though, takes life experiences, in my opinion. I realized that life is a fragile thing (and that I wasn't going to live forever & I wasn't invincible anymore) when two people close to me attempted suicide- and only one on her own free will.
Does anybody know of any good songs that have to do with saying goodbye to somebody who has made a difference in your life. Not necessarily a lover, but more like a role model... I know it's hard, but if anyone can think of anything that might go, please list! Thank you!

The whole school is going on a field trip to this lesiure place called Holiday Hill. I was planning on wearing my new bikini but my parents won't let me. I'm not going to be the odd-one-out wearing a 1pc or tankini. I was planning on wearing it or changing into it there but is there because of this, but how can I talk to my parents about this? What do I say?
Why aren't they letting you wear your new bathing suit? Are they worried you'll lose it? Reassure them that it WON'T be getting taken off- except for maybe changing into your clothes at the end of they day.
Don't get mad, don't scream that they're ruining your life. They may just be worried that a bikini is too skimpy for a class trip - think like a parent for a second.
Ask them nicely if you can wear a bikini instead- your mom, especially, will understand about wanting to get an even tan (use sunscreen though!) and feeling confident in a swimsuit.
good luck, and have fun regardless of what you're wearing!
14/f theres a guy i really really like and hes so sweet and shy and we like drawing comics and laughing at monte python stuff and we hav a great time together but im going to high school next year and hes a grade below me so hes staying in middle school and i will hardly see him at all next year so i dont think its worth hooking up with him because this year i was going out with a guy in another school and we broke it off because we didnt see eachother enough and lost interest so what should i do because its soooo hard to let him go i really love him and (hopefully) he loves me back but we might loose interest in eachother next year from not getting to see eachother and i want something to happen NOW schools almost over and its so painful i love him so badly. Im at that stage where it would be kind of awkward to just ask him to meet up somewhere next year because im (a little) shy and hes shy....ugh someone help me plz!!!!!
Invite him over your house one Friday night to watch a movie that you both like. You could tell him how you feel anytime you feel like you could- and you wouldn't be at school, so it'll be less awkward.
As for going to separate schools, it could actually be a good thing. If you see each other at school all the time and you're dating, you could get sick of each other sooner.
good luck :)
15/f. tomorrow after school i'm going out with a bunch of friends, but then we are all going back to someone's house to swim. So my question is, is there anything i can do or eat that will keep me thin throughout the day so i look good in my bathing suit?
in the morning when i wake up i am really thin. but after i eat my stomach kind've "expands". so is there any special tips that i can do to keep my stomach flat? or what are some foods that will guaruntee me to stay thin and not to expand?
i am going to school, so i can't just skip lunch or anything. oh and please don't be like they're your friends, they don't care how thin you are, i know that. its just that i want to look my best since a lot of guys will be there. thanks sooo much!
Don't go and eat six pizzas and an entire bottle of soda. Guys (or your friends) aren't going to notice if your stomach gets a little bigger. And don't worry about trying to impress guys by keeping your stomach flat anyways- you'll be in a bathing suit, surrounded by many other girls dressed the same way. I can assure you that they won't be overanalyzing how much your stomach expands when you eat.
Go and have a good time, and don't worry about it!
okay to start out im 14. im about 5' 2'' and 97 lbs. i have been working out a lot lately...i have swim practice 6 days a week, i run 2.5 miles every other day, and i bike ride about 3 miles every sunday. i have been doing this for about 2 and a half weeks now and i havent lost any weight at all..will i ever?
Why would you need to? You're fine already.
All that might happen is stronger muscles and you'll look more "toned". But you don't need to lose weigh so that's probably why you aren't...
i have this project and i need to get 100 people to do this four question survey. me and my friends already got some people, but it will be very helpful if you answered these questions to increase the numbers.. seriously, this will take you like less than a minute to type!~ :]
1.Would you rather eat skittles or M&Ms?
2.What is your favorite kind of chocolate? White, Milk, or Dark?
3.Which would you like to have inside a chocolate bar? Nuts, caramel, or fudge?
4.What is your favorite flavor of starburst? Yellow, Orange, Pink, or Green?
thanks for answering! remember to choose one, and in your answer do something like the sample below:
1. skittles/m&ms
2. white/milk/dark
3. nuts/caramel/fudge
4. yellow/orange/pink/black
again, thankyou!
1. Skittles
2. Milk
3. Nuts
4. Orange

yeah so i have one of them underground pimples, and it hurts like a bitchhh. i really want it gone by like friday, so i was wondering what would work. would putting a hot face cloth on it then putting an ice cube on it bring it to a head? its like spreading if i try to pop it (i knowww i'm not supposed to) and it's really annoying me. any other suggestions? (that work quickly & i don't have to go out and buy something)
Hot facecloths really do help. Don't ice it that much though- the heat is what really helps it, AND relieves pain.
Only pop it if it starts to ooze on its own- otherwise you'll be left with a funky scar that fades after about three years.
Other things you can do (depending on what you already have) are frequent application of fast-acting spot treatment, rubbing alcohol or toner (to dry it up faster) and Visine to get the red out- try it, it realy works! The best thing, though, is to treat it, and leave it alone. Touching it constantly only makes it worse.
hahahahhahahahahahhahah suckkkeer!!!!!
Thanks, you have a nice day too.
I would like to know what I fell for, though. Enlighten me in feedback if you so desire.
& I believe the correct spelling is "suckerrrrrrrrrrrrr!" since one usually puts the emphasis on the last letter.
:)
which is a renewable resource, oil or hydroeletric?
Think logically. We can make more electricity, but we can't make more oil. Therefore, hydroelectric power (a resource) is renewable.
Next time, use Google and maybe take some notes in science class. We're not here to do your homework for you.
EDIT: ooooh, I'm SO insulted. Is that how you usually talk to people that help you?
13/f. I shave down there but should i shave the whole "triangle" or not?
Do whatever you're most comfortable doing. Regardless of how much you shave, be careful, use a sharp razor and plenty of shave gel.
i really like this one guy, but i really don't think i'm alive. i really want him to ask me out but he never talks to me. what sould i do?
Well, if you're able to type this question, it's safe to assume that you're alive. I think you meant "I really don't think he knows I'm alive".
How to fix this? Let him know that you're alive! Say hi to him, become friends with his friends, ask him for help on classwork/homework, etc. Get his phone number at some point, too, and call him every so often.
:)
finals are next week...
how do i stay focused to study¿
Rest well, drink enough water, don't rely on sugar and caffeine to keep you awake for two weeks. Buuut, if you need to stay awake for an extra three hours to review your trig notes, an iced coffee isn't going to kill you, I promise.
The worst thing about finals is that they all come in the same week. Or in my case, two weeks [voc. shop finals are five days long]. Study a little each night, and RELAX! You've been doing this stuff all year. You know all of this! Plus, it'll be over in no time, and then
v a c a t i o n. :)
& p.s. meth could also ruin your life. I think the other columnist was kidding, but who knows. Try not to resort to such drastic measures, k?
i couple days ago i got my motorola KRZR stolen and my parent dont want to buy me a new phone because its too expensive to buy a phone without a 2year plan. so does anyone know a good website with good deals on cell phones for verizon with out the 2year plan.
Ebay. Also, if you have an old phone for Verizon [or if a friend of yours does] you can re-activate it with YOUR number online for free.
Have you called and had a hold put on your account? Otherwise, someone could be using your phone calling Japan long-distance right now. And downloading ringtones nonstop [they did that to my uncle and it cost him over $1000; but he didn't have to pay because he reported the theft]. Point is, make sure your number is deactivated. Verizon customer service can do this without affecting your parents' numbers, so no harm there.
good luck, and who knows, your phone could still turn up again! :)
I heard that pantene products damage your hair in the long run...
is this true??
????
I don't think so. I've used them for years. Then again I've used nine kinds of shampoo at once, and my hair hasn't fallen out yet.
It's been around for a really long time- if there was something wrong with the formulation, we would have caught on by now.
Only thing about Pantene is that the shampoos [conditioners especially] are rather thick, and you have to be certain that you've washed everything out. That could make your hair look greasy and yucky if you don't- but any brand'll do that if you leave it in.
:)
there has to be a catch to vitamin water it cant be thatt good for you , so is there anything wrong with it?
i heard people say theres bad facts about it but i dont know them , do you?
It's not any worse than gatorade, calorie for calorie. And you don't see people spazzing out about Gatorade, right?
It's just been in the news lately because people are drinking it thinking it's some miracle health drink with no calories. [125 calories per bottle]. That's half of what's in regular soda, though, so it's better for you than a lot of other things people drink.
So as long as you know that you're consuming calories and sugar, and it's not ALL you drink or replacing your multivitamin, you're fine :) Don't worry about it.
In the book to kill a mockingbird, there are 2 Radley brothers right. Well I know one was Boo and the other is Arthur...but in the end they kinda confused me when they called Boo, Arthur. So My question is what are the two names..and if Boo is Arthur.. Thanks!
He has an older brother, Nathan Radley. Boo is Arthur's nickname :)

i was in english and i got a text from my girlfriend and it said " im in gym and i got my period i need tampons" i just said "ok" i dont know if she meant to send that to me. im pretty sure she meant to send that to someone else. and i dont wanna be like hey are you on your period because that would make her feel uncomfortable. but what should i do. thanks
She probably meant to send it to someone else. I read this exact scenario in a magazine, and the girl meant to send it to her mom. She could have also just been joking around, or someone could have taken her phone.
Ha, just don't say anything about it, I guess. Or you could joke about it, saying that you used the last one you had this morning. It's no big deal, just let it blow over :)
This is a question for teenage girls. My daughter and I have always been very close. She's always been very open with me and willing to share things about school, friends, boys, etc. Now that she's 13, though, things have changed some. Sometimes I can tell she's upset about something, but when I ask her what's wrong, she doesn't want to talk about it. I realize this is normal, that she wants some privacy and doesn't need her mom butting in on everything. But I also know it sometimes helps to talk about things instead of keeping them inside. I want her to know that I'm here for her and that she can tell me anything. Should I keep trying to get her to talk, or should I just leave her alone and hope she'll open up if she needs me?
Let her know that you're there. Don't pester her for information, and she'll open up when she feels like it. She's not necessarily hiding something awful from you- it's just a LOT easier to talk to your friends about most things in your life. Just don't accuse her of hiding things from you, whatever you say. She won't trust you as much.
Knowing that you care enough to talk to her, though, IS really important. Even though we may not always show it, we're grateful that our moms are there to talk to if we need them :)
