yeah so i have one of them underground pimples, and it hurts like a bitchhh. i really want it gone by like friday, so i was wondering what would work. would putting a hot face cloth on it then putting an ice cube on it bring it to a head? its like spreading if i try to pop it (i knowww i'm not supposed to) and it's really annoying me. any other suggestions? (that work quickly & i don't have to go out and buy something)
An abscess means that some bacteria got under your skin- grew and made this small pocket of pus. Big ones are usually cut open to let drain- and then a person is given antibiotics.
When they are small- warm compresses can be used- and if you can see a doctor- a short course of antibiotics- when it gets more like a soft pocket- often with a white spot on top- you can take a sterile needle (if it is not too big) (sterile neede- use a sewing needle or a safety pin- rubbing alcohol to clean it- or under a match flame)- and then pierce through the skin and then drain the collection. Problem is that it may re-accumulate without antibiotics.
If it is larger though- don't touch it. Go to the doctor and he will either make an incision and drain and pack it with gauze to help it heal.

LM answered Wednesday May 30 2007, 9:35 pm: Hot facecloths really do help. Don't ice it that much though- the heat is what really helps it, AND relieves pain.
Only pop it if it starts to ooze on its own- otherwise you'll be left with a funky scar that fades after about three years.
Other things you can do (depending on what you already have) are frequent application of fast-acting spot treatment, rubbing alcohol or toner (to dry it up faster) and Visine to get the red out- try it, it realy works! The best thing, though, is to treat it, and leave it alone. Touching it constantly only makes it worse. [ LM's advice column | Ask LM A Question ]
