Q: i have a problem with a family member of mine and i'm thinking moving out, but im onli 15. i hate it wen people tells me that i shouldnt move out or that i should be put into foster care or something, i rather just handle everything on my own. but the problem is i dont have money to pay rent every month. i dont wanna drop out of school so i would realli appriciated if somebody can suggest a good job that i can work to help me move out, pay rent, and still be able to buy food and evrything else
...

You might have some problems with that...

Most landlords require renters to sign a contract when renting, and I think you have to be 18 years old in order to sign a legal contract.

Also, remember that you would be paying more than just monthly rent. Most rentals require a deposit up front, which is usually double-rent (first and last month's rent). If you have any pets, there is the trouble of finding a place that allows them, and then usually a pet deposit.

Electricity, gas (if needed), phone, water, sewer, garbage pickup, cable, all these things cost money, and many can require contracts and/or deposits.

Many places will want to see, or make a copy of, your driver's license. So that's a problem too.

Plus you have the expense of your food, & other personal expenses (soap, shampoo, deodorant, hair products, beauty products, laundry detergent, clothes, pots & pans, dishes, glasses, silverware, and all that type of stuff.)

Finding a job to pay for all that at 15? I'm afraid it's not very likely. Many older people with diplomas still struggle to pay for all of that.

I can help you with the Catholic Vs. Christian part of your question.

The Catholic Church believes that the Bible is not the only authority. Their teachings include such documentation as Catechisms, and Papal Encyclicals (defined as "authoritative teaching instruments from the Vicar of Christ" (the Pope)) which have been written and added to throughout the years of the history of the Catholic Church.

Because of this, the Catholic Church has many teachings, beliefs, and traditions that are different from a Christian who believes the Holy Bible is the exclusive authority of Christianity.

A Catholic Christian believes in the Catholic doctrines, teachings, and traditions which include, but are *not exclusive to* the Holy Bible.

Most non-Catholic Christians believe the Holy Bible is the *exclusive* authority of Christianity... No other documents.

Much argument comes from this, as quite a few non-Catholic Christians believe the Catholic doctrines to be un-Christian and not corresponding with Biblical scripture. And obviously, Catholics disagree.

Q: What is the differnece between Catholic, Lutheren and Christian religions? I want to know about the differences befor i pick one.

I have not researched Lutheren teachings, but I can tell you my understanding of Christian and Catholic differences.

Q: my 8 month old black pekingese-poodle has this big red bubble thing on her eye, its like almost under her right eye lid. She ahs this before but not this bad, we pushed it back into her eye but now like a month later, it came back out and she won't let us pish it back in. Does anyone ahve an idea on waht this is?
...

I'm not a vet, but...

That sounds like something that happened to a dog I had once. It was called "cherry eye" and wasn't dangerous in itself, but it's irritating to the dog, and can cause the dog to damage their own eye by pawing at it. Plus it's rather ugly to look at too. :-\

Take a look at these Google search images and see if this looks like your problem (Warning: unpleasant images):

http://images.google.com/images?sourceid=navclient&ie=UTF-8&rls=GGLG,GGLG:2006-13,GGLG:en&q=cherry%20eye&sa=N&tab=wi

The surgery to have it removed is simple. I don't remember it costing too much, either. So check with your vet!

Q: say i bid like 10$ on an item and like 5 people were before me and i win.. do i have to only pay 10$ and the shipping?

but if i put 10 dollars and someone else puts like 15 dollars that means i loss right?
...

If your highest bid on an item is $10, then the most you will pay for it is $10 plus shipping.

Bidding $10 doesn't necessarily mean you will have to pay $10 for it, though. If an item starts at $1 and you bid $10, but nobody else bids, you win it for $1.

If someone else makes a bid of $5 on that same item, eBay will use their proxy bidding system to automatically up your bid to the next increment (like $5.50 or something like that).

With the proxy system, you will only have to pay just enough to beat the 2nd highest bidder on any item.

And of course, if someone else bids higher than you, even by a penny, they win the item. Highest bid at the end of the auction wins. Period.

And remember, some people bid their maximum bid in the last few seconds of an auction, so always bid the maximum amount that you are willing to pay for an item, so you won't be disappointed if you are outbid.

Q: I have been involved with a guy for over 2 years. We have a near perfect relationship. He is my best friend and the person I know God sent to me to spend the rest of my life with. My boyfriend says he feels the same way. We recently graduated from college and were lucky enough to have found jobs in the same city. We have been living together for over eight months and especially the last three months, we couldn't be happier. I now find myself constantly thinking about marriage and looking at dresses and engagement rings. Is that normal?
He says that he is ready to marry me but he doesn't want to spend the money it cost to buy me an engagement ring. The ring that I have chosen cost $3000 and he claims that is too much to spend on a ring. I told him that I don't care how much he pays for a ring as long as he puts a lot of thought in the ring he chooses. Lately, he constantly reminds me of the $3000 ring and makes me feel as if it is my fault that engagement rings are so expensive. What should I do or say to him to convince him that I just want a nice ring? Also, what can I do to convince him that this is not a time to be a cheap-skate and that a decent ring will cost over $1000?
...

I realize this is an old question, but I found this on a search and wanted to answer it.

The whole diamond ring thing is a huge scam. The jewelers run ads and commercials to convince women that if their man really loved them they would buy them expensive jewelry... Women are brainwashed to believe this BS. And because of the whole "group mentality" thing, because their girlfriends all believe it too, then they don't even question it.

The poor men are left wondering why the women can't see they are falling for a con job... But ultimately they are left with no choice but to either go along with it, or find a woman who values things that actually matter.

Who really benefits from this? The jewelers. They're laughing all the way to the bank.

What purpose does an *expensive* ring serve? Nothing but EGO. 100% EGO. Something to "show off" to the girlfriends. Other than that, an expensive ring serves NO purpose! You put it on your finger. You look at it. Woohoo. Yeah, that's so worth going in debt for.

"Oh, well it symbolizes our love!" some people will say. A ring doesn't have to be expensive to symbolize love... The amount of love in a relationship is NOT directly proportionate the the cost of the ring!

When we got married, my husband and I found a little place that was having a sale, and for both of our rings, sized and everything, we paid less than $100. That's 2 rings for less than $100. They are simple 12k gold bands. They don't have any protruding parts that snag on things, they are easy to clean, they don't turn our fingers green, they show that we are married and they serve that purpose just fine.

Our marriage would not be a bit different if we had more expensive rings... Other than the fact that if we'd spent that money we would have started our marriage either in debt, or with less money for other, more important things. So we actually benefited from having modest rings.

$3000 can buy a nice used car. That actually has a purpose. That's actually useful.

It could be used as part of a down payment on a house. Or put away for a rainy day. Or used to start a savings account.

For that matter, there are hungry children in parts of the world that can be fed for $20 a month. True, it's mostly rice and such, but it's food! It's better than starving! http://www.orphanstear.org/index.htm

$3000 would pay to feed one of these orphans for 150 months. That's over 12 YEARS of food for an orphan! Or 2 orphans for over 6 years... etc.

I'm sure people reading this can tell by now that the diamond/jewelry scam is one of my sore points. I hate to see people fall for it, and lining the pockets of the scammers. It's very frustrating. Most people don't want to see the truth because they like things the way they are, and if all their friends agree with them, they must be right. No matter how illogical it is.

While what I've written here may make some people mad, I hope it also makes them think. Maybe they will eventually stop being mad at me, and start being mad at being lied to by people who only want to make money off of them, and count on them being gullible enough to fall for it like all their friends did. :-(

Q: ok so im going to be 18 in about 9 weeks time and im thinking all my friends well apart from a few have all had sex even ones who are younger than me am i getting to old and whats the right age to have sex?? I would have had sex but my bf says he loves me but i do not trust him its like when we are away from each other he never contacts me or cares about me my question is shall i wait until the right one comes along to lose my virginity? thank you in advance.x
...

No, you are not too old to be a virgin. If anybody ever gives you a hard time for being a virgin, they are probably just jealous because they wish they had waited. Your waiting makes them look slutty... but if nobody else they know is a virgin, they get to feel "normal" and can "justify" their decisions. You have Free Will and you can choose for yourself... Don't buy into the whole thing that says you have to lose your virginity by any certain age or you are an old maid. That's BS.

It's smart of you to not throw your virginity at your current boyfriend. It's not a hot potato to be gotten rid of as fast as possible, like everybody these days seems to think. And as you probably know, 99% of guys will say anything you want to hear for sex. Your virginity is a gift that you can only give once. You can't take it back.

As far as age goes, I was 26. (and it was on my wedding night.)

Q: My dad is an obstatrician/gynacologist. Part of his job therefore requires him to be on call somtimes to deliver babies. This I am use to, usually he's on call once a week & some weekends. However, in the past year 3 people have left his practice, so there are only 2 left. Now he is on call every other night & I htink it is tearing my family apart. My mom has seemed miserable lately - she's always crying because my dad is never home. My sister & I really wish my dad would be home more often too. I know there are other families where parents aren't home all the time, but it just seems like it is making everybody miserable. We keep telling my dad to find new people for his practice, but nobody wants to come & practice in CT, because it is too expensive. And my dad is not very proactive at all...he seems to want to take each day as it comes but we all want him to be more active in finding a new partner. I don't know how to handle this, I am only 16. I want my dad to be more active in fixing this problem but he just will not listen to any of us. This situation does not look good with everybody always so miserable. Being just a teenager, is there anything I can do? It hurts me so much too, to watch my mom cry & my dad never be home.
...

I understand that you all miss your dad and want to see more of him.

Being the husband is a lot of responsibility. He has to worry about keeping a roof over his family's head, keeping food on his family's table, giving them the ability to be able to buy the things they need and want, plus worry about bills and insurance and taxes, etc... The fact that he loves his family so much that he is willing to work these long hours, is a testament to how MUCH he loves you! If you only complain about it, you could really be hurting his feelings. His dedication and sense of responsibility is something to be treasured and appreciated.

But, of course, yes, it is possible for someone to work so much they burn themselves out. I realize that you want him to look for people to come to the practice and take over some of the responsibilities there, but looking for people like that is a job in itself... If he's already working himself to the limit, trying to find more people for the practice may be a bit more than he can handle right now. Basically, while complaining he is working too much, you are asking him to do *more* work!

This is where you and your family can help your dad. Find out from him what kind of qualifications he is looking for, what kind of person he would like to find for his practice... And then see what YOU can find. Check newspapers for people who are looking for work. Many newspapers have online additions, so you can look at newspapers from all over the country:

only search advicenators.com

Also, some of them offer the ability to post free online classified ads, plus there are websites that are all classified ads, all the time:

only search advicenators.com

Write up a little ad and then show it to your dad for approval, then go around to all the different places you can find, and post the job offer!

There are also options such as posting an ad on Monster.com

http://www.monster.com/

or even specialized places like OBGYNcareer.com

http://www.obgyncareer.com/

These place charge money to place an ad, BUT they do have people coming there to look for jobs, and the ob/gyn one is specialized to what you are looking for.

Basically, do as much as you can to take this burden off of him, and you just may be able to get him some help.

Of course, get his permission for all of this... you need to know exactly what he's looking for anyway. ;-)

Q: I have diabetes so i dont drink regular sugared soda. I mean i can but i dunno i just dont really even like it. But anyways ever since i got it i have been drinking diet coke. I know its not as good as drinking water but is diet soda bad for you???
...

I understand you have diabetes, which restricts what you can consume... But I am not going to lie to you, aspartame (NutraSweet, Equal) is bad for you.

I have personally lived through the horror of what diet soda can do to you. It almost killed me though heart arrhythmia, and has caused permanent damage to my hearing, memory, and vision. This isn't something I just read about on the internet, this actually happened to both me and my mother. And this isn't an isolated issue, there are many, many people out there who have been hurt by this product.

ASPARTAME MAKES YOU FATTER!

Position Statement from Sandra Cabot, M.D.,

I have been a medical doctor for 23 years and have clinical and research interests in the liver and metabolism. I have authored several best selling health books including the "Liver Cleansing Diet", "The Body Shaping Diet", "Don't Let Your Hormones Ruin Your Life", "Women's Health", "Menopause and Natural Hormone Replacement Therapy" and I lecture internationally on these subjects. I have been consulted by thousands of patients with weight problems, hormonal imbalances, fatty liver, sluggish metabolism and chronic ill health. I have been an advocate and practitioner of nutritional methods of healing for 30 years. I regularly appear on national television and broadcast on many radio stations to educate people about the importance of a healthy liver in achieving good health and weight control!

In the interests of public health I am making a position statement concerning the use of the artificial sweetener called aspartame and sold most commonly under the names of NutraSweet and Equal. One must ask, "why do millions of people ingest a toxic chemical like aspartame everyday"? To me it appears ridiculous and I believe that it is because people have been brainwashed into thinking aspartame will keep their weight down and is good for health.

Q: Can you be forgiven for being gay? Is it really a sin? What if you just want to try it and see what happens are you going to be penalized for that? Can someone help me asap.. these questions are for a friend who really needs it
...

You're going to get a lot of different answers about this one.

For what it's worth, here are my own *opinions* on the subject.

Yes, I definitely believe that the Bible says that homosexual acts are a sin.

However, I also believe that the Bible says that many other things besides homosexual acts are a sin... Like having sex outside of marriage for instance, so I'm not just singling out homosexual acts here.

As far as, can a person be forgiven? Of course they can. Anything that we *truly* repent of, we can be forgiven. But remember, Yahweh (God) knows what's in our hearts. If we do something, and before we do it, we say to ourselves "I'll just do it and ask forgiveness later.", Yahweh will know about that.

True repentance means that we regret something so much, that if we had a time machine, we would go back and change it so that we never did it. That means if a person wants to be forgiven, they need to truly wish they had never done it... And if a person goes to do something sinful, expecting to be forgiven afterwards because they think they will truly wish they had never done it, then why would they want to do it in the first place?

Besides, every time we give in to temptation, we lose a battle and the enemy gains a foothold. We become more likely to repeat the sin, and more likely to feel despair for our failure to make the right choice.

I understand that some people believe that people can be born homosexual. Since I believe that Yahweh gave us Free Will, I believe that we always have a choice as to whether or not we will do something. Even if someone holds a gun to my head, I do still have a choice, I can still choose to defy the gun-holder, and possibly die. Most choices in our life aren't at the literal point of a gun, but they are our choices and we are responsible for the choices we make.

There are lots of things that we are tempted to do... Someone who really wants a certain CD but doesn't have the money might be tempted to steal it... It doesn't mean they were born a thief, just that they are feeling temptation. They can choose to give in to their selfish desires, or they can choose to not steal. Just because someone is tempted to do something, does not mean they were born to do it.

Again, these are just my opinions.

Q: Ok. I'm a Christian, but I do not know the Bible cover to cover like some people do. I have 3 friends, who I love dearly, but they are just totally lost and I really want to save them but I have no clue as of how to do that. Like.. Ok.. here's their stories.

Billy 16-years-old: He's a terrible alcoholic who parties all the time and sometimes gets high but he is surely damned to hell because he has committed sexual immortality several times. He is one of those people who doesnt care about the Bible or God and makes jokes about religion at times. So I do not know how to talk to the guy.

Jessica 15-years-old: She's like my best friend but she's like never been to church. I've invited her before several times, but she always comes up with a reason not to go. And here lately we've lost friendship & she has lost herself to starting to drink because of peer pressure and she's became sexually active, so to say. And she's similiar to Billy, doesnt care.

Brittany 15-years-old: She's bisexual and she parties like every weekend and gets soo drunk & she cusses all the time but everytime I mention church or something of the sort, she cracks a joke & says something like, "Gosh you're such a goodie-goodie". And even though she's never had sex, she's did other stuff with girls and guys, so. I really want to help her & even though she goes to church often, she doesnt act Christian-like at all.

I really care for these people because they are like 3 of my best friends, but I have no clue has to how to help them. They are sooo young and if they were to die tomorrow or even today, they would go straight to hell & I really want to share my eternity with them in Heaven. So anyone with any advice, please help.
...

I understand how you feel. It's difficult to look around and see the world falling apart, and wonder if the people you love will gain immortal bodies, or... the alternative.

Q: Is there any website where I can find free songs and i don't have to give a membership or anything illegal?

ps~ i'll rate 5's

Q: I am looking for a good RPG for PS2 and can't seem to find one. Its like all the other good RPGs are for the Xbox. I don't want Final Fantasy. What I am looking for in my game is for it to have your basic attack and magic. Also there has to be ALOT of replay value and I can play this game over and over without getting bored.
...

I'm in the same position, I like RPGs and have a PS2.

A couple of games I have really enjoyed are, Gauntlet Dark Legacy:

http://www.gamespot.com/ps2/action/gauntletdarklegacy/index.html

It's an older game, and it's not exactly an RPG, but it's RPG-ish. Lots of hack & slash, fighting monsters and leveling up, and you can choose to be a fighter or an archer, etc... You can also play multiplayer with this game. I like it.

The other is the Dark Cloud series, 1 and 2:

http://www.gamespot.com/ps2/adventure/darkcloud2/index.html?q=Dark%20Cloud

They are very fun, with lots of interesting things to do and mini-games within the game.

Those are the only ones I have personally played. But here is a big list of PS2 RPG games:

Good luck!

Q: ALRIGHT. I can't take this anymore! I've tried every diet you can do & seen a nutrisionist. For awhile I just ate wayy less and lost about 7 pounds (over summer) but I'm pretty sure it's all back now. I honestly don't know how much I weigh because we don't have a scale, but I'm guessing 170-180. And I'm 5'2. Yeah, hah I'm fat. Before I moved to TEXAS (in third grade) I was never fat, I was reeeally skinny actually, less than normal. Then, I guess all the fat asses in Texas had such an influence on me I decided to become one myself!

Kay, no really, what the hell do I do to lose weight. Give me some exercises that will help, or even a plan of meals per day. Please please please, and make sure it works. I'll follow it exactly as long as it truly works. Thanks.
Whatever you do, don't go on and off of diets. If you keep dieting and breaking it, that WILL make you gain weight and lower your metabolism. It's called yo-yo dieting. You are better to never diet at all, than to eat less for a while, then go back to eating normally.

The best "diet" is one you can live with for the rest of your life. In the case of most people, that means, eating very close to what they normally eat.

So how do you lose weight eating normally? Build muscle. Most people only do aerobic/cardiovascular type exercises, that increase your heart rate and such. While those exercises are good too, they aren't for building muscle specifically. You should lift weights. Weight train. You're not going to suddenly get bulky like muscle builders, but muscle burns fat. The more muscle you have, the more fat you burn. Even when sitting or sleeping. You start losing weight naturally, even if you are eating the same.

100 years ago and longer, there weren't as many fat people as there are today. And yet everybody ate butter, not margarine. Everybody drank whole milk (with the cream too!) not skim milk. Shortening was Lard! One of the biggest flavor additives to dishes was animal fat! There were no artificial sweeteners. So why are people so much fatter today? (well, besides the fact that we eat so many unnatural, man-made foods) Because people back then had to be very physically active and had muscles! Even the women had to be strong and have muscles, just imagine washing every item of clothing on a wash board. If you are physically active and have nice healthy muscle tone, what you eat shouldn't matter nearly as much.

Now on the other hand, if you try to eat less than your body is used to, (diet) your body will think that it's in a famine period, and will panic. If your body thinks it's starving, it tries to make sure to save your life, by lowering your metabolism (so you don't burn as many calories) and by storing away even more fat when you start eating more normally because it's afraid there will be another famine and it doesn't want to die. Remember, in all the thousands of years of human history, people usually had to struggle for food. Your body is made to deal with famines and keep you alive. That's why it's so common to gain even more weight than before when going off of a diet. And if you do it again and again, you get heavier and heavier every time you try to diet.

So bottom line, exercise and weight train. Don't rely on the scales to tell you how you are doing because muscle weighs more than fat! Rely on how your clothes fit, or use a measuring tape to keep track of your body shape.

Also, eating more often will help to raise your metabolism. Like, the same amount of food per day that you normally would, but spread it out into 6 smaller meals instead of 3 larger ones.

One more tip, don't drink diet sodas or anything with artificial sweeteners in it (NutraSweet, aspartame, equal). That includes sugar free yogurt, ice cream, chewing gum, etc. It actually increases your appetite, and one of the known side effects of that sweetener (that the FDA actually admits to) is "Weight Gain"! Weight loss isn't even listed as a side effect of NutraSweet. Ironic, isn't it? It's also horribly bad for you, and it nearly killed me when I was around 20. If you want more info on that, or anything else, you can mail me at DangerWench@gmail.com

Q: i keep having to peee

like all of a sudden really bad and then very little comes out, very often

and i havent drinkin that much today, just a small cup of cranberry juice, a bottle of water, and a can of minute maid lite...

does anyone know what this is?

thank you
...

It does sound like that might be a UTI or Bladder infection... I used to get them all the time.

While cranberry juice is good for you, and will help with that, you have to drink a lot of it and sometimes it's just not enough. Plus it takes time, at least for me. One time I drank cranberry juice constantly, and I still ended up going to the emergency room with the infection.

That was then, this is now. NOW I know of a sure-fire cure for Urinary Tract Infections, Bladder infections, etc... and I'm totally not BSing you here. Grapefruit Seed Extract (GSE). I take this stuff, and the symptoms are gone within 24 hours. It's amazing!

Get the liquid, not the pills. The stuff I use is this brand:

http://www.vitaminshoppe.com/store/en/browse/sku_detail.jsp?id=NQ-2001

And you can read this site for info on all of the other things GSE is good for:

http://www.pureliquidgold.com/health.htm

For an infection, I use 15 drops mixed in water (drink it fast, it's kind of bitter), 3 times a day. It may be tempting to just take it for a day because you feel so much better, but take these doses for at least 3 days. Just like with medication, you should take the full treatment or it might come back.

GSE is anti-viral, anti-bacterial, anti-fungal, and anti-parasitical. Yet, it's safe for us. It's so good at killing bad things, they are starting to use it in hospitals for surgery prep, because it does a better job than alcohol!

It also purifies water, so it's a good thing to have in any emergency survival kit, plus being useful for treating wounds and such (diluted). Never use it full strength unless you are using it on a wart. (yes, it dissolves warts).

I also used it in our pet's water to treat worms, etc.

Everybody should have this in their home. You may even have a local health food store that has it stocked.

Q: basically i am very unhappy with my body right now. i'm fifteen, and i know that's normal... but i want to fix it. my skin has been terrible lately, huge pores, big zits, bad breakouts. i've gained a lot of weight within the past few years as well. i feel DISGUSTING. i'm about 5'1" 160 lb. i know that's big, i don't need to be insulted, i need help. does anyone have any HEALTHY ways to lose weight? things that i should stay away from? does staying away from carbs actually help? i've tried going without eating for a few days (again, please don't preach) and i can't do it. my parents are always questioning me, or i forget that i even made that pact to myself. and when i do go without eating, it doesn't help! and my skin, any products or anything that you want to suggest? i just want to stop being so grossed out by myself. thanks so much!

by the way, i wasn't sure which category to put this in. so sorry about that.
...

As for the bad breakouts you are having, I've only had that problem once, and I went to a dermatologist when that happened. He prescribed some medication and it cleared up just fine. I don't remember what kind it was though, sorry... That was probably 20 years ago. ;-)

Q: Here's a passage that's apparently from the Christian Bible.

I cannot, for the life of me, tell if it's a real passage. I've searched all over Google, but to no avail.

"Wherefore I say to all those who desire to be disciples, keep your hands from bloodshed and let no flesh meat enter your mouths; for the Lord is just and bountiful; who ordains that man shall live by the fruits and seeds of the earth alone. I am in all creatures and all creatures are in me. In all their joys, I rejoice. In all their afflictions, I am afflicted." 38:1-6

I just need to know what book of the Bible this is.
(Blank 38:1) Just like that.
Thanks a lot in advance
...
That's not a verse from the Christian Bible.

A good way to look up Bible verses using keywords can be found here:

http://www.blueletterbible.org/

The verse you quote is apparently from some kind of writings that someone claims was found in a buddhist temple in Tibet, and they claim it was written by Christ. I would personally take it with a very large grain of salt.

But here are a couple of verses that are from the Bible, that might help:

"For one believeth that he may eat all things: another, who is weak, eateth herbs.

Let not him that eateth despise him that eateth not; and let not him which eateth not judge him that eateth: for God hath received him." Romans 14:2-3

"And he called the multitude, and said unto them, Hear, and understand:

Not that which goeth into the mouth defileth a man; but that which cometh out of the mouth, this defileth a man." Matthew 15:10-11

"And Jesus said, Are ye also yet without understanding?

Do not ye yet understand, that whatsoever entereth in at the mouth goeth into the belly, and is cast out into the draught?

But those things which proceed out of the mouth come forth from the heart; and they defile the man." Matthew 15:16-18

"And he saith unto them, Are ye so without understanding also? Do ye not perceive, that whatsoever thing from without entereth into the man, [it] cannot defile him;

Because it entereth not into his heart, but into the belly, and goeth out into the draught, purging all meats?

And he said, That which cometh out of the man, that defileth the man.

For from within, out of the heart of men, proceed evil thoughts, adulteries, fornications, murders,

Thefts, covetousness, wickedness, deceit, lasciviousness, an evil eye, blasphemy, pride, foolishness:

All these evil things come from within, and defile the man." Mark 7:18-23

Q: My mom has a drinking problem. She has gotten drunk at least 3 or 4 times. I hate it when she gets drunk. My sister and I told her to not buy wine again and she promised she wouldn't, but tonight she was got drunk because she has been hiding wine from us. The next day she ALWAYS denies it. What should I do to make her admit that she lied and to make her stop??
..

My mother is an alcoholic, and when I was growing up with her, I hated it when she would drink. It was like having a stranger in the house when she drank, but she didn't think she acted any differently.

I had the same problem. I told her how I hated it when she got drunk, but she would try to hide it and do it anyway. I could always tell... it wasn't hard to tell. :-(

One night (I was probably 14 or 15 at the time) she was drinking, and I had an idea... I plugged the microphone into our stereo system, put a blank cassette into the cassette player, and started recording... Then carried on a conversation with mother.

Then amazingly, we had unexpected company (I've always thought he was sent by God), and I let this person know what I was doing. So we both asked her general questions like "What's your favorite thing about so-and-so" etc... She gave some answers that were completely whacked out and some that were just horribly, unbelievably embarrassing for her.

So, the next day, I told her that if she thinks she doesn't act differently when she is drinking, she needs to listed to this tape. She listened to it, and she was mortified. Especially since the guest was there and witnessed it all. She honestly had no idea she acted any differently whatsoever, and thought I was just being unreasonable when I told her I hated it when she drank.

She stopped drinking for many years after that. She only really started again when I got married and moved out. But there's only so much a person can do. *shrugs*

Anyway, a modern version of that idea would be to use a video camera, or borrow one, and video tape her when she's drunk. Then show it to her when she's sober. Maybe it will wake her up.

Good Luck.

I'm DangerNerd's wife. We met on an internet personals site back in December, 1996. He flew across country to meet me for the first time in late February of 1997, and we were married a few weeks later. We've been together 9 years now. :-)

If you want to mail me, my email is DangerWench@gmail.com

Yes, I do sometimes copy and paste my own answers to answer different people's similar questions. I still personalize/edit them when necessary... but for instance, my advice about diet and exercise it going to be pretty much the same every time, and that's a very common subject for questions here... so there's no point in typing the same thing over and over and over again. ;-)

Yes, hubby and I were both virgins on our wedding night, at the age of 26. Yes, we are both Christians, but we greatly dislike what "Christianity" (or "Churchianity") has come to represent in many people's minds these days... Hypocrisy, greed, pride... Things which the Bible says we are NOT supposed to do. We are supposed to be a good example, not a bad one. :-(

If you have a Christian acquaintance who is hitting you over the head with "Jesus will bring you peace and joy and happiness" tell them to listen to this:

http://www.dangernerd.com/kirkcameron.mp3

(It's 9 megs, so it may take a bit to download)

If you can't download MP3's for some reason, you can download the zip file.

http://www.dangernerd.com/kirkcameron.zip

If they are an actual preacher/pastor, this one is geared more towards them:

http://www.dangernerd.com/raycomfort.zip

Send them the link, or burn it to CD and give it to them, whatever it takes.

If they really listen to that, they will see how the Bible itself says the way they are annoying you is wrong. :-)

If you are a Christian, please listen to it, even if you aren't beating people over the head with Jesus. I promise you, it will give you a new perspective. It's totally awesome.

I'm also fascinated by prophesy, and I do think we are living in an age where we are seeing many things come true that were prophesied 1,000's of years ago.

There has been a lot of hubbub lately regarding my views on the differences between Catholicism and *exclusively* Bible-Based Christianity... Mostly due to my not making myself clear. I did have a big long explanation here, but this time I will opt for the KISS method (Keep It Simple, Stupid). Yes, the following is the simplified version. ;-)

Much argument comes from this, as quite a few non-Catholic Christians (myself included) believe many of the man-made Catholic doctrines to be un-Christian and not corresponding with Biblical scripture. And obviously, Catholics disagree.

For more information about the differences between Catholicism and *exclusively* Bible-Based Christianity, see the following link:

Roman Catholic Doctrine vs. The Holy Bible

And a final note about that link... That e-book isn't written by Jack Chick, I have a lot of problems with Mr. Chick. Some of his tracts are great, and some of them are way "out there" if you know what I mean. I do not support Jack Chick. This e-book is written by Rick Jones, who was a Catholic for many years, not Chick.

"This know also, that in the last days perilous times shall come. For men shall be lovers of their own selves, covetous, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy, Without natural affection, trucebreakers, false accusers, incontinent, fierce, despisers of those that are good, Traitors, heady, highminded, lovers of pleasures more than lovers of God; Having a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof: from such turn away. For of this sort are they which creep into houses, and lead captive silly women laden with sins, led away with divers lusts, Ever learning, and never able to come to the knowledge of the truth." (2Timothy 3:1 - 7)

"And there shall be signs in the sun, and in the moon, and in the stars; and upon the earth distress of nations, with perplexity; the sea and the waves roaring..." (Luke 21:25)
