Don't believe the nutri-sweet scare, the email that went around several years ago couldn't even be verified. You can find more information on the FDA website. Anyway compare diet soda to regular soda and the for you the diet soda is the lesser of the two evils! You of course probably already know all about eating the right way for your diabetes. "all things in moderation--you'll be fine"

...

I understand you have diabetes, which restricts what you can consume... But I am not going to lie to you, aspartame (NutraSweet, Equal) is bad for you.

I have personally lived through the horror of what diet soda can do to you. It almost killed me though heart arrhythmia, and has caused permanent damage to my hearing, memory, and vision. This isn't something I just read about on the internet, this actually happened to both me and my mother. And this isn't an isolated issue, there are many, many people out there who have been hurt by this product.

View the trailer for the video documentary, "Sweet Misery" (a case study of people who have been poisoned by NutraSweet) here:

A list of emails from REAL people writing about their own personal experiences with aspartame (NutraSweet):

And the website that list came from:

And though, I know you are drinking it because of health issues and not diet issues, "Weight Gain" is one of the symptoms of consuming NutraSweet. Read here for info on that:

ASPARTAME MAKES YOU FATTER!

Position Statement from Sandra Cabot, M.D.,

I have been a medical doctor for 23 years and have clinical and research interests in the liver and metabolism. I have authored several best selling health books including the "Liver Cleansing Diet", "The Body Shaping Diet", "Don't Let Your Hormones Ruin Your Life", "Women's Health", "Menopause and Natural Hormone Replacement Therapy" and I lecture internationally on these subjects. I have been consulted by thousands of patients with weight problems, hormonal imbalances, fatty liver, sluggish metabolism and chronic ill health. I have been an advocate and practitioner of nutritional methods of healing for 30 years. I regularly appear on national television and broadcast on many radio stations to educate people about the importance of a healthy liver in achieving good health and weight control!

In the interests of public health I am making a position statement concerning the use of the artificial sweetener called aspartame and sold most commonly under the names of NutraSweet and Equal. One must ask, "why do millions of people ingest a toxic chemical like aspartame everyday"? To me it appears ridiculous and I believe that it is because people have been brainwashed into thinking aspartame will keep their weight down and is good for health.

Yes diet coke is bad for you. Here are some sites I Googled so you can see:

It can also eat the lining out of your stomach and it can rust a nail.

But as long as you don't drink too much of it then your fine. Remember to drink plenty of water!

Diet coke is far safer than regular coke. You should have more than 1 or 2 8 oz glasses a day though.

But there are some mixes (eg crystal light) you can add to water to make it look and taste better.

If it's all you drink and you do it all the time, then yeah. It's considered junk food, but anything is fine in moderation.

As long as you don't drink a ton of it, it won't cause you any harm. There have been studies that it's bad for you, and it does have some bad stuff in it, but it's no worse than regular soda and again, as long as you don't drink it in great excess, it's not bad.

i am not 100% sure, but i have heard that diet sodas are just as bad as regular ones. there is a study being done which could prove that soda in general is bad for your bones, because it gets in the way of vitamin D, which is needed to help break down calcium. they are not 100% sure about this, but who knows! i personally don't drink soda because i don't really like it that much... not to mention it makes me look so bloated!! i think it's ok to have it every now and then, as long as you're not depriving your body of good things it needs like water, 100% fruit juices and milk!! :)

Sherry answered Tuesday April 4 2006, 2:03 am:
Some people say it slows down your metabolism but all my mom drinks is diet coke && pepsi, she has 1-2 a day and she is fine. If it was that bad for you, the coke company wouldent be able to sell it. So dont worry about drinking it, and try Crystal Light, it goes in your water and tastes like lemonade and it comes in other flavors. Sugar-free =) It's awesome.
