Hey everyone! My name is Kristen, I'm 20 and I'm a college junior studying pharmacy. I've been blessed with a really good life, and part of the reason for that is because I've learned to see GOOD in everything that happens to me. I love giving advice, and I've been told that I do a good job at it, but I'll let you decide! Feel free to ask me anything... don't be shy, that's why I'm here. I've been through a lot... moving from one country to another, leaving and finding new friends, break ups, boys, middle school, high school, college, self esteem issues... pretty much most things that people need help with.

i've had my period a lot lately. like i'll have it all month, then have a couple days of not having it. so, my mom said she might put me on the pill.... what are the short term & long term side affects of the pill? do you have to go to a gynocologist to get this? =[ and what will it do for me (like, how often will i have my period & what will it be like, etc.) do you recomend this, or no? thanks.

alright, first of all, your period sounds pretty irregular? did you just start having it recently... like within the past year or two? that could be a deffinite explanation for it.
as far as the pill and it's long term pros and cons, here are some:
pros: it makes your period much more regular... you take 3 weeks of pills which contain the actual active ingredients, and the 4th week, you take pills that contain no active ingredients... or sometimes they just have iron. some women choose to not even take the 4th week. the only reason there is a 4th week of pills is so that you can get in the habit of taking a pill every single day, so you don't forget to take the important ones. anyway, the pill also makes most women's periods lighter. it also helps relieve cramps, so your periods are less miserable! in addition, the pills controls your hormones, so it helps with acne. it's also been said that women who take the pill have a decreased chance of developing certain cancers, such as cervical cancer.
cons: some bad things about the pills are just side effects, so you won't necessarily have to deal with them. you have to find the right brand for you. usually the doctor will prescribe one based on your period, your lifestyle, and so on. some pills make women easily irritated and emotional (hahah) but other brands don't... it just depends. also, the pill might make you gain or lose a little bit of weight as a RARE side effect. in addition, when you first start the pill, you might notice spotting (random bleeding down there... it's unpredictable). with the pill, there is also an increased chance of developing blood clots, stroke and heart attack... that chance increases in women over 35, and especially ones who smoke!
overall, the pill is good! i think it makes life easier! just make sure to take it at the exact same time every day, and when you start having sex, remember that it's NOT 100% effective and it doesn not protect agains STDs!! :) let me know if you need more help. haha and sorry for this long answer... the pharmacy student in me came out! haha byee!
hey i asked you a question, actually two questions, a long time ago about that remington wet 2 straight straightner. well i couldn't find it at any stores around me so i bought it off ebay. well i got it a while back and i tried it twice on two different days but i've noticed that it doesn't really straighten my hair. i got it from the internet, yeah, but it was new and still in the package. i put it up to 30 but it barely straightens my hair! i mean, my one and a half year old conair straightner is better than it! i don't know what's wrong with it or if i'm using it wrong.
so am i ONLY supposed to use it when i get out of the shower? and is there something i can put in my hair when i do that because last time i tried it after the shower it got so frizzy i could barely wrap my fingers around my hair. but when i do it when my hair is dry i don't get any effects. i'm not sure what i should do because school is coming up and i still don't have a good straightner to last me a while.

hmm that's really weird that it's not working well for you. when you bought it did it come in the original box? does it look new?
ebay is a good place to buy things, but a lot of people lie when selling their items, in order to get a better price. for all you know, it could be a deffective straightener that they were selling.
your best bet is, if you have the box, call the customer service number on it. if not, then go to the website and find the number there. but it's best if you have the box. explain to them that it's not working... if you have the box they will probably ask you for some numbers on it, and they might even agree to send you a new one if you send that one back to them.
my sister got a cell phone on ebay, and they said it was new... but it stopped working after 4 months, and when she called Motorola (the phone manufacturers) and gave them the numbers on the phone, they told her that the warranty on the phone had expired long before she even bought it on ebay! :(
if none of that works, i would try straightening your hair again with it in a different way. i personally wouldn't use it on wet hair... i've tried it, and it takes too long. i just blow dry my hair while brushing it the whole time until it's about 99% dry. then i apply a little anti friz cream to the ends and work it up. lastly, i take small sections at a time and straighten each one. you may have to go over each section two or three times.
hopefully something works out for you!! if not, then i suggest looking into getting another straightener... i've heard helen of troy straighteners are good. but do some research, and i wouldn't recommend buying one online again! let me know if you need more help! :) good luck!

aaww thanks! :) well ok this answer is very hard to answer because it will all depend on where you go to get this stuff done. not only that, but it also depends on who in the salon does it for you... someone not so experienced, or someone very experienced.
highlights are usually around 100 dollars on average. you can get them for less at some places, and for way more at others. it depends on the thickness and lenght of your hair, and once again, on who does it.
for getting your hair permanantly straight, it's the same thing. deffinitely at least a $100 dollars, although it does vary. also, permanantly in this case means a few months. i don't think there is anything that can make your hair straight for the rest of your life. lol
so the best thing you can do is this: first, find a salon where you want to go. ask around for good placed in your town, use the internet to see what people said about the place, and so on. once you pick a few good ones where you would feel comfortable getting your hair done, go in and explain to them what you want, and ask how much it will cost. compare the prices at all the places you picked, and then go with the best one!
P.S. as far as getting both of these done at the same time... i would space them out over a month or so. hair dies aren't great for your hair, and the chemicals they put to make your hair straight are bad for it as well. so to keep your hair as healthy as possible, it's probably not the best idea to do both of these at the same time. :) good luck and let me know if you need more help!

however, remember that those things aren't always 100% accurate. that's because muscle weighs more than fat, and they don't take that into consideration.
for example, 2 guys can both be 6'0 and 280 lbs! but one of them can be chubby, while the other one is ALL muscle! however, on a website such as the one i gave you, it would tell them both that they are overweight!
so you can use that website as a source, but to really find out if you are over weight, i suggest going to the doctor for a check up, and asking him to determine if your weight is healthy! :) good luck and let me know if you need more help!

brackets are used by journalists a lot when they put direct quotes from other people in their work. for example, if they interviewed britney spears and she said something that they wanted to quote, but that quote is unclear unless you heard the entire conversation, they will add a word or two to the quote, and put them in brackets because she didn't actually say them. that way the reader can understand the meaning of the quote, and the journalist specifies that they added that word to the quote... not britney spears.
they are also used if the quote refers to something that you wouldn't know about unless you heard the entire conversation. for example, if britney talked about her mom and then said "she is so good to me" and they wanted to use that quote, they can say "she [her mom] is so good to me" to help identify who she is talking about.
basically, brackets mean that whatever is in them wasn't in the original text/quote, and that it was added in by the current author for some reason! :) hope that helped, let me know if you have more questions! :)

Once you are on the website, click on the "Cooking" tab, and on the left side, click on "Recipe Collections." From there you can choose different dishes made by different food network chefs. aahhhhh!! ok so obviously your break up with your ex broke your heart... and you are now afraid of relationships because you don't want your heart broken again! right? well, everyone goes through feeling this way after a break up. eventually though, you get over the person, your broken heart heals, and you move on to bigger and better things.
so then why are you having problems? well, it's because your wounds haven't healed yet. you are still hurt by the break up, and that's why you can't let yourself get close to anyone else. you are afraid. but GUESS WHAT!!?? your heart will NEVER heal if you don't cut off all contact with your ex. there is no way you can get over someone if you are still seeing him and talking to him... and even worse having sex with him. you still like him and want him. having sex with him means a lot to you, but unfortunately it doesn't seem to mean a lot to him.
you are hurting yourself even more every time you sleep with him. you are disrespecting yourself, you are not letting your wounds heal, and you are allowing him to see you as a sexual object which he can just use for physical pleasure and then forget about in the morning. it's a win win situation for him. he has the relationship with his gf, and the sex life with you. if she dumps him, he has you. and if you stop having sex with him he still has his gf. it's all good for him. but it's horrible for you and your well being.
you need to get away from this guy right away and give yourself some time to heal. give yourself some alone time. you don't need to try and find a new boyfriend right away. go out, spend time with friends and enjoy the single life until you find the right boy for you. there is no need to rush. if you don't stop talking to your ex right away, you will be stuck in this terrible situation for a long time, you will be even more hurt in the long run, and you won't give yourself the chance to meet a guy who will love you and treat you like a queen.

this is soo true. sure guys like to hang around easy girls just so that they can get some action without the commitment, but in the long run, no guy is going to look for an easy girl to be in a relationship with. you really have nothing to worry about. i didn't get my first kiss until i was 16, and my sister and 2 best friends didn't get theirs until they were 18! they are all very good looking, but they also have self respect for their own selves and don't throw themselves at the first guy they meet.

Ok I'm the kinda girl who wears alot of make up but it never seems to last. Like for example my cover up wears off so fast.. like within an hour. hey!! well there are many different products out there that work great, but i don't think it really has to do with the brand as much as it has to do with how you are using the make up.
first of all, you want to make sure to wash your face before you apply make up. after that, moisturize. this will hydrate your skin and make sure it doesn't get oily... because if it gets oily, it will strip all the make up off your face.
after you finish applying cover up/foundation, you want to make sure to finish it off with powder or a powder bronzer. if you don't do this, your make up WILL rub off almost right after you put it on. the powder really helps to set it, and it makes your skin looks smooth and even!
as far as brands though, cover girl is great. physicians formula powder bronzers are also really good! :) let me know if you need more help!

Anyway, i explained that club soda just means carbonated water. it's easy to find at just about any grocery store, but some people really don't like it. i suggest giving it a try, and if you don't like the taste of it, you can always substitute it with something like sprite. the final taste won't be exactly the same, but close!!
also, the sugar in the tins is for rimming the glass, as you said. basically, it makes the drink look nicer, plus everyone can taste the sweetness of the sugar when they go to take a sip! that stuff is pretty expensive though... you can just use regular sugar and get the same effect!

My friend Taylor, *of 7 years* always tries to make her look better then me. She always tells people I'm having a bad hair day, I'm breaking out, my parents are strict *even though HER parents are the super strict ones, deff. oh boy, do i know EXACTLY what you're talking about. honestly, i doubt that there is a girl in the world that hasn't gone through this. let me break it down for you: your friend is jealous of you and what you have, and she is insecure. when you are with her, you intimidate her and she needs to find a way to make you feel bad about yourself so that she can look better in other people's eyes. you're saying two hot boys chose you over her? well exactly... now she feels that you are better than her, her selfesteem has gone down, and now when you meet people she wants to make you look bad so that they don't choose you over her again!
basically, the only way to solve this in a matture way is to talk to her about it. i know you said it didn't work the first time you tried talking to her, but she probably didn't take you seriously. next time she does it (or if she has done it recently), pull her to the side, sit down with her and calmly explain to her that you don't like what is going on. don't yell at her and accuse her, because she will just become defensive and deny everything. just say "hey i want to talk to you about something. lately it seems like you've been putting me down in front of people and it really makes me think twice about our friendship." then give her examples of when she did it, and tell her that it hurts you and that it's not something you would do to her so she shouldn't do it to you either.
after this heart to heart, your friendship should become even stronger, and she should hopefully stop doing this. if she continues, then just tell her you don't really want to hang out with her anymore. it might be hard, but anyone who doesn't respect you and treat you right doesn't deserve your friendship! good luck and let me know if you need more help!! :)
I really really want to get a digital camera and i know that if i want a good camera, i am going to have to pay good money. hey!! well first of all, digital cameras are getting more and more advanced every day... because they are coming out with new ones so quickly, you can get very good cameras for a low price. i have had the olympus stylus camera for almost two years. it's a great camera... i love it! my boyfriend got it for me for 350 dollars 2 years ago, but you can now find it for less than 200! i deffinitely recommend it.
but what i would suggest is that you look around on different websites (circuit city, best buy, wal mart) and see which cameras you like. you can then go on this website: EPINIONS.COM and type in the brand and name of the camera you are interested. this will allow you to read reviews written by people who own that specific cameras! it should help you make up your mind!!

I have been with my boyfriend for a year and a half, we are very much in love with eachother and fancy eachother. Sex has always been very difficult and painful for me, and such a huge struggle, but earlier this year it did become easier.
It's just this year, i haven't wanted anything sexual, a few times this year ive gone through spells of 3-4 days when all i've wanted to do is sexual things with him, but the rest of the time i always knock him back or if he touches me i move his hand away.
I do want to have sex, it's just such an ordeal with the pain and the time it takes for my body to be ready, and i dont get turned on during sex and it takes a while for me to be turned on in foreplay and i really aren't giving it enough time because i keep pushing him away.
i dont know whats wrong with me, i do suffer terribly with depression so we think it could be that, aswell as everyday on-going physical and mental illnesses.
I know he gets frustrated and has though it's because i dont famcy him but i do, i think he's gorgeous and i love him so much.
i just want to understand why i do this, and if there are anyways to get me "in the mood" and find my labido and just enjoy it without turning him down all the time.

hhmmm well if sex is painful for you, i can see why you don't want to do it. no one wants to do something that they don't enjoy. on the other hand, it is something that he enjoys, and it is something that is part of long term relationships. you need to have some sort of physical contact every now and then, or else both of you will get frustrated and the relationship miht suffer from it.
a lot of women don't get off from sex. if you don't, and on top of that if you have to deal with pain, then you shouldn't be forced to do it all the time. why don't you guys try oral sex? what probably hurts is when he inserts his penis into the vagina... but that's not involved in oral sex, so it shouldn't be painful for you and you should be able to enjoy it. that way both of you are happy... he gets some action (and so do u!) and you don't have to deal with pain.
now as far as why it hurts, maybe his penis is too big or you are too tight? try buying a small dildo or even just using your fingers every now and then to help with the tightness. if that is the problem and you get it a little bit looser, things should be ok in the future. if not, then why don't you go see a gynecologist and explain the situation to them. they should be able to determine the problem and give you a solution!
lastly, when you do get in the mood to have sex, make it really really good for him since it's not something you want to do all the time. buy sexy underwear, try different positions, role play... whatever turns you and him on. buy and read the magazine Cosmopolitan... they always have lots of great ideas on how to make sex better and more exciting for both partners. maybe even watch porn before you get in bed with him... that might turn you on. basically try different things and see what works! :) GOOD LUCK! let me know if you need more help!
Ok so im trying to work things out with my bf. we have been together almost 2 years and i am now pregnant even though i was told i couldnt have kids. We have set a date for marriage but there is a problem. He will not save any money and we are stuck renting a basement apartment at a friends house and im not bringing a baby into a basement. So, i suggested that we move down south with family where we could afford the cost of living. He refuses because all of his friends are here. So since he doesnt want to come with me, should i just leave him and go by myself??? I have no family or friends here and both of our families are down south. I think he is being selfish to want me and our baby to stay in a basement just because of his friends.

i agree with you 100%! he is being selfish and you can't let that kind of behavior go on. whether he wants it or not, it's time for him to grow up and start a completely new kind of life. from now on, it's not about what's best for him, it's about what's best for the baby.
honestly, from now on, life will be different for both of you. it's going to revolve around work and the baby. it's not going to revolve around friends. so what if all his friends are at home? he won't have time to see them! he will either have to work over time if you are home watching the baby, or he will have to watch the baby while you are at work. he will barely see his friends, so they might as well not be there.
if you move down south where both of your families are, you will have more of a life. you guys can make new friends there, and you will actually be able to go out every once in a while and have fun because you will have plenty of babysitters around... ones that you don't have to pay!
sit down, talk to him, explain all of this to him, and then even suggest that you guys can go there for a year and see how things go. if both of you really hate it there, you can always move back. his friends won't forget him... a year is nothing! and since the cost of living in the south is cheaper or you may even be able to live with family until you get adjusted, you can save up most of the money you guys earn there, and use it to get a nicer place if you decide to move back!

ok, let's see as far as how to get tighter curls, it's all about the hold. you want to use products that will hold a tight curl right after you make it. the best thing to do is to scrunch your hair and get it curly, instead of using a curling iron.
wash your hair, and then squeeze out extra water. comb your hair, flip your head over and put a good amount of mousse all over your hair. work it and and start scrunching your hair. then add some gel, and work it all the way in by scrunching. with the blow drier on the low setting, start drying your hair while your head is still flipped over, and scrunch the whole time with the other hand.
do this for a few minutes, and then add more mousse and gel as necessary. i do this 2 to 3 times because of how long and thick my hair is... it needs a lot of product! in addition to gel (i use LA looks for curls... it's blue) and mousse (i use rave), i also use SPRUNCH spray by Aussie... just put it on after the other 2 products. keep scrunching and drying on low until your hair is 99% dry, then put in some hairspray and you should be good to go. the curls should hold with all that product! but then again, you don't want to over do it because then your hair will harden! don't worry after a few times of doing it you will know the exact amount you need to use! :) good luck! let me know if you need more help!
Well this year for school shopping my mom is only giving me and my sister $100 each (yeah i know it sucks but lucky we are the same size, but not twins 4 years apart if that matters)
I am a very preppy hollister and Ambercrombie wearer but obviously i don't have money to spend on that stuff (I know hollisters clearance can be really cheap but i feel like i own that store already because i spend tons of money there and the only stuff i don't have it the real new stuff which obviously i can't afford with just the money my mom is giving me)
So i am looking to get atleast 3 outfits out of this money my mom is giving me and i need some ideas. my main goal is to have a good fit because stores like kohls dont always have the best fit and i have an issue with highrise jeans because i am only 5'1".
also i want to buy it in the store so they have to have a store that is very close to Pittsburgh pa. (if you are searching a location online i live closest to south hills village)
If you can please send me cheap outfits here(pictures from the stores website) that would be appriciated and the more you can come up with the better. I am mainly looking for shirts and pants not really jeans.and maybe cheap accesories
I am 5'1" about 110 pounds with brown hair and green/brown eyes with tan skin of that helps.
The more pictures the better! I also wear a juniors small to med but can pull off a large depending on the style and i wear anywhere from a 3 to a 7 in pants depending on the style.

lol ok anyway, i'm not going to give you pictures of all the outfits you could make because there are just sooo many... but i will suggest some stores to you! you should have absolutely NO problems finding 3 outfits, if not more, for 100 dollars! i do it all the time!
alright, i suggest going to century 3 mall, or robinson. they are 5 to 10 miles away from the village, but they have a lot more stores. check out stores like 579, body central, wet seal, charlotte russe and rainbow. they have a TON of things for really cheap, and they all fit great for someone your size!
also, why stick to the mall? check out stores like TJ Maxx and Marshalls... they have a lot of designer clothing for really cheap!
finally, you might want to go to Gabriel Brothers (gabes for short)... it's a 2 minute drive from century three mall, and it is SO cheap. most of the things there come from very well known stores (A&F, hollister, delias, arden b...), and they are cheap because they might have a small factory defect (most of the time it's not visible) or they are "last season"... basically the stores need to make room for their new stuff, and whatever they don't sell goes to a store like gabes. sometimes i go there and find nothing, and other times i get a ton of things. it just depends on the day you go... yeah, you have to look through a lot of things and then inspect everything to make sure it's not ripped/stained, but it's soo worth it! and NO, none of their stuff is second hand... it's never been worn by other people.
