The Catholic Church believes that the Bible is not the only authority. Their teachings include such documentation as Catechisms, and Papal Encyclicals (defined as "authoritative teaching instruments from the Vicar of Christ" (the Pope)) which have been written and added to throughout the years of the history of the Catholic Church.
Because of this, the Catholic Church has many teachings, beliefs, and traditions that are different from a Christian who believes the Holy Bible is the exclusive authority of Christianity.
A Catholic Christian believes in the Catholic doctrines, teachings, and traditions which include, but are *not exclusive to* the Holy Bible.
Most non-Catholic Christians believe the Holy Bible is the *exclusive* authority of Christianity... No other documents.
Much argument comes from this, as quite a few non-Catholic Christians believe the Catholic doctrines to be un-Christian and not corresponding with Biblical scripture. And obviously, Catholics disagree.

Catholicism is different from other Christian religions b/c of who is worshiped and some of the sacraments. [ sunshine805's advice column | Ask sunshine805 A Question ]
xoPandaBabyxo answered Monday February 21 2005, 7:51 pm: The only differences they have are their beliefs and their like...ceremonies and stuff. Catholics usually around Easter and Xmas they put food on a plate and set it by a candle for the spirits to eat off of, while the Christians dont really do that. I hope I helped.

if you are catholic you worship Jesus and Mary which is Jesus' mother and so they believe that they should worship her too. christianity is when you believe that you only worship Jesus and that is because that is one of the ten commandments so they worship only one peron and that is the difference between catholic and christianity!!
Karen answered Monday February 21 2005, 1:04 pm: A Christian is a person who follows the religion based on the life and teachings of Jesus. A Catholic is a word that means universal and it's a member of a Catholic church. There is a difference to both of these two, but then again, there isn't.

MFS answered Monday February 21 2005, 12:46 pm: All Catholics are Christian.
Not all Christiand are Catholic. Much of what people refer to as "christians" are the various protestant sects that split from the Catholic Chrurch many, many years ago. Some such groups share more similarities to Catholicism than others, such as Lutheran and Anglican/Episcopalean.
Also to say "Catholic" refers to the religion.
To say "catholic" is a word that means "universal".
Yeah, a pedantic difference based on a capital letter, but it is a differnce.
EDIT: I've seen some people post some very bizarre interpretations of Catholicism in here, including things that are just very, very wrong - even coming from people who claimed to have been Catholic. Interesting. Catholics do not worship Mary, nor the Saints. People seem to misunderstand the meaning of certain prayers and the differnce between reverence and respect with that of worship.
