Difference What is the differnece between Catholic, Lutheren and Christian religions? I want to know about the differences befor i pick one.
[ ] Want to answer more questions in the Miscellaneous category? Maybe give some free advice about: Spirituality?
Actaully the differences is that catholics believe that jesus is actually present at the time of the consecration- that he is the blood and body- Lutherns do not belive that, therefore they do not have the consecration at their church. Lutherns do not believe in the 7 sacraments, or that the pope is a true teacher of the faith...(thats just some of the main differences) ]
...
I have not researched Lutheren teachings, but I can tell you my understanding of Christian and Catholic differences.
The Catholic Church believes that the Bible is not the only authority. Their teachings include such documentation as Catechisms, and Papal Encyclicals (defined as "authoritative teaching instruments from the Vicar of Christ" (the Pope)) which have been written and added to throughout the years of the history of the Catholic Church.
Because of this, the Catholic Church has many teachings, beliefs, and traditions that are different from a Christian who believes the Holy Bible is the exclusive authority of Christianity.
A Catholic Christian believes in the Catholic doctrines, teachings, and traditions which include, but are *not exclusive to* the Holy Bible.
Most non-Catholic Christians believe the Holy Bible is the *exclusive* authority of Christianity... No other documents.
Much argument comes from this, as quite a few non-Catholic Christians believe the Catholic doctrines to be un-Christian and not corresponding with Biblical scripture. And obviously, Catholics disagree.

Cathoilic, Protestant, whatever else are all branches of christianity ]
well what i've been told is that they interperate things in the Bible differently. my family background is catholic but i go to a luthern church as i find it more comfortable. i have been to a catholic church and it seems they are more strict with their beliefs. ]
Well, Christian is both Catholic and Lutheren and more. I can tell you the difference between Catholic and Lutheren. Catholic has been existing longer. A long, LONG time ago, If you were Catholic, you were Christian. Luthern is the first church to break away from the Catholic religion. I suggest Catholic because I'm Catholic, and every other Christian religion came from the Catholic, with a few changes. Anyway, it's your choice. ]
Christian is a religion as a whole...Catholic and Lutheren are christian...they just differ with practices. Also, Catholics are a little bit psycho and Luthern's are okay. ]
ok, well, catholic's have alot of stupid ritual stuff....on offence to people who are catholic..but catholic churches scare me. ok anywho, and christians and lutheren's r pretty much the same thing. ]
NO Christianity,Catholic, and Lutheran arent seperated by holidays . let me tell you i agree with what someone said earlier. Catholic and Lutherin are denominations and religions. Christianity is knowing God knowing that he came to earth and died for you to take every sin away so that you would be made clean and there would then be a way for you to get to heaven. See God is perfect so therefore there is no sin with him. We on the other hand were born into this world sinners. everyone is a sinner . so God sent his son to die on the cross to save us . He put all of our sins , sins we have committed things that we are goin to do(because like always we will mess up) and he put them on his son. his son was crucified stabbed in the side they place a crown of thorns on his head and mocked him. 3 days later he rose. he buried our sin so we could have life. bein a Christian isnt about doing works and bein good. its about knowing God and loving God and having a relationship with him where when you have problems you can talk to him and not have to come to this site and ask other ppl questions . we dont kno. its also worshipping him and knowing that he is the one that made you and made the earth and everything in it. please if you want to talk to me come to my site ]
Christian is a faith that Catholic and Lutheren are under. Do research. ]
Christian is the broad category for anyone who believes in Jesus Christ as their savior and the only way to heaven is to believe in him. I am a Lutheran so I can tell you that the Lutheran Church was started by Martin Luther when he believed that many things the Catholic church did were wrong. The Catholic church changed too, i believe. Both Catholics and Lutherans are considered christians, they are just different denominations. They are basically the same, they just have different beliefs on what the sacraments are and some interpretations of the Bible. If you don't know for sure, there are also lots of non-denominational churches that you might find work well for you. ]
well they all beleive in diffrent things ]
The sheer amount of "wrongness" and ignorance being given as answers in this thread is astounding.
People sure have some weird-ass notions of what it means to be Catholic. Get a clue, people.
Lutherans... umm.. that whole Martin Luther and the start of Protestantism by splitting from the Catholic church...
Sort of like Anglicanism/Episcopaleanism, where the King of England split from the Catholic church because the Pope at the time was a political asshat - Henry VIII wanted to be Catholic without the Pope... given the circumstances, I don't blame him.
I find it funny how so many of the "Christians" have put down everyone else, even going so far as to claim that Catholics have a superiority complex... ahem... who has the superiority complex now, eh?
BTW - the Catholic church no longer spouts off shit that says that non-Catholics go to hell... that's bullshit and is not the official stance of the Church, nor should it ever have been so in the past.
For those who think Catholicism has too many rules... well... our religion is you know.. about 2000 years old, give or take, and sprang out of the faith that Jesus followed, being Judaism, which is also stinking old.
also, ALL that you mentioned are Christian. That simply means to be a follower of Christ, of which Catholics, Lutherans, Anglicans, Methodists, etc etc etc all are. ]
How do you just pick a religion? That is the dumbest thing i've ever heard. ]
Catholic and Lutheren are RELIGIONS. Christianity is a LOVE RELATIONSHIP that you build with Jesus Christ our Lord & Savior and a LIFESTYLE.
Read Galations 5:18-25
See religion is Man's pursuit of God. Christianity is God's pursuit of Man. In his words there is truth and holiness. It doesn't matter what you've done or what you've been through, Jesus still Loves you. Jesus said in his word" I am the way, the truth, and the life. No man cometh to the father but by me. In others words you need to have a relationship with Jesus to get into Heaven.
- God Bless ]
Catholic, Lutheran and etc. are mainstream, religious churches. A Christian is something a person is - not an organized religion. Being a Christian means you know Jesus as your personal Lord and Savior and have a desire to walk in truth. It's not a matter of picking a religious church; it's a matter of seeking where truth is taught. The Bible is truth. Read the Bible yourself so you have an idea of what the Bible has to say.
Most of the mainstream religious churches peddle the "if it FEELS good, it must be right" or "I'm a good person, so I'll be in heaven" philosophies. It has twisted the bible with man made traditions and called it truth. The Bible is truth. And there are many things in the Bible that don't FEEL good.
Let's say your house started on fire. That doesn't FEEL good to know your house is on fire, but the truth is, it's on fire. Or you may do and say many nice, wonderful things like Mother Teresa, but even Mother Teresa needed Jesus.
What I am saying is you may find a few genuine bible believing Christians in the organized religion churches like Catholic, Lutheran and etc. You may find that some of these organized religion churches really teach biblical truth, but don't pick one based on anything except that biblical truth is taught there.
Your question sounds like you are a person longing to understand the truth so, I suggest starting at a Fellowship or Free Church. You have a better chance of these churches teaching from the Bible. ]
You dont just "pick one" Thats not how it works. Its how you feel about it all. Whatever you feel about religion, then you find the one that fits it the most. ]
Cathlics pray with Virgin Mary, and they use rosarys. Other Christian religions do, but not as much, and some don't pray to her at all-like mine, im Pentacostal. ]

Catholics have freaky rules about sex and relationships and shit.
Christians have way too many unanswered questions
And to be honest, I have no clue about Lutheren....
You should research this online, Hun. You can find tons of info there. :) ]
Christians dont celebrate all the same holidays that catholic people do. Catholic people celebrate everything and more. Like Ash Wednesday, and and that thing that begins with an L or something and you dont eat certain foods for a long time on certain days. Christian people dont celebrate that. I'm christian and i think it is the best religion to be because then you dont have to worry about all those extra holidays and not eating certain foods that you like for a long time. It better to just keep things simple or w.e Sry i heard of lutheren but i dont know much about it. But i still hope i helped. ]
catholic-you dont get married, Protestantism
lutheren- all people regardless of race, color, creed, religion, national origin, sex, sexual ... they believe in christ
