advice

ok so i went on vacation to our beach house and met a guy that i liked alot. he liked me to and we decided to be friends with benefits..we made out and he seemed to really like me. I had to leave later the next week and he said he'd call me every day..well then he said every other day cause he'd forget..but its now been like..5 days and ive called him 3 times..and he was only there like twice..but his grandparents said they'd tell him to call me. He called back once..but not the other 2 times..so am i scaring him by calling him a lot?..ive only called him 3 times..and its been 5 days..ive called him every other day..or did he just lose interest in me since i left? thanks for your help =] oh and im 13/f if it helps

The thing is that many kids that age are quick to get crushes and often quick to forget them or get new ones. I know that this isnt the case for everyone (such as yourself perhaps), but in truth both guys and girls that age are not always that easy to depend on.

Now, of course it could also be that he dislikes talking on the phone or something like that, although that would be odd since he suggested calling you. Anyway, I dont think you are scaring him by calling him. He should be expecting it, just dont do it every day.

Now, if i had to guess here, I would say that he could have lost interest since you left. Its hard to say for certain since I have no idea what he wanted out of your relationship. Try to think back to when you talked to him on the phone, how he sounded, whether he seemed pleased to hear from you and so on.

If I were you I wouldnt call him too many more times if he doesnt begin to show some initiative. If you have the guts for it you could also take the direct approach and ask him what he wants. Put him on the spot a bit and see how he reacts. You may not get a straight answer but at least then you have done everything that you could possibly do.

for my 15th birthday i'm getting a treadmill from my parents. i know that it kinda seems like a waste of a present, but i really want one. i have always tried eating healthy and try to stay in shape. i eat healthy on weekdays but then allow myself to have some snacks on the weeksends so i don't completely deprive myself of junk food. i'm doing fine with eating healthy, but i've always wanted to get a flatter stomach. everyday i do 170 crunches, 100 bicycles, and then stretch out my ab muscles. i also walk 2-3 miles a couple of days a week.

my question is: will running on the treadmill help me get a flatter stomach? if so how much will i have to run? or for how long? and how fast? i would run on the treadmill about 5 times a week along with doing my regular 170 crunches & 100 bicycles everynight. basically the treadmill would replace the walking 2-3 miles a couple of days a week.

First of all, dont believe for a second that losing fat on your stomach has got anything directly to do with training your abs. That only builds muscle, fat loss cannot be targeted (its a myth believe me).

So, to get the flat stomach you need to lose weight overall. To that end the treadmil is extremely useful (as is any cardio in general). If you want to lose weight, they recommend cardio in the morning before breakfast as it targets the fat directly. Regardless of when you do it though, its a matter of burning more than you eat. So... watch your diet. I can see you are already controlling it, but if the results arent comming you got to tighten it a bit more.

Also, running does in fact hit the lower abdominals to some degree. Again, not that it has any relevance to your goal, but just so you know.

As for how much, I would aim for trying to get a cardio that is over 30 mins. Do it at whatever pace you can complete it in. As you get fitter, you can run a bit faster, or add some more time to it. Certainly at first I would not start with 5 times a week. Ease your way into it and be reponsive to your body (excessive soreness and so on).

i wanna lose 20 pounds. im 14 and 5'3" and i weigh 135 pounds. i play sports so a lot of my weight is muscle. i need advice on what to eat and how often to exercise and stuff. please don't tell me to take pills because my step-mom hates it when i tell her i want to lose weight but i just feel that im a little overweight.

Well if you exercise regularly you are already half way there. Here are some general tips to get your diet in order:

- Eat often (4-6 times a day, i.e. every 3-4 hours). This is actually very important. Split your calories relatively evenly between these meals, and make sure each meal is balanced.
- Make sure you eat enough protein and dont overdo it on carbs and saturated fats.
- Stay away from junk foods, things which have sugar added to them, stuff that is deep fried etc. As a general rule try to keep dairy products low in fat, and then get your daily fat intake from sources like fish, nuts, good oils etc.
- Eat things like lean meats (skinless chicken and turkey are great), fish, vegetables, fruit in moderation, nuts in small quantities, cottage cheese, eggs in small quantities (otherwise just the whites), oats (great way to start the day), basmati rice again in moderation as with all carbs, etc.
- Drink lots of water

Ok that should give you an ok start. I was considering telling you how to divide your calories up between fats, protein and carbs, but I dont think you need it. Just eat sensibly and you will do just fine.

As for how often to exercise, that really depends on your fitness level, what sports you play and your ability to recover. As a general rule, no matter what you need at least one rest day a week. For weight loss they recommend cardiovascular exercise in the morning before breakfast. Its not manditory to do it then, but they say it gives better results.

Just work out regularly and listen to your body. If you feel sore, take a rest day. Perhaps aim for 3 days a week and see how it goes. It might also take your body a while to adjust to your new way of eating. So be prepared that if you cut down your carbs you might experience a drop in performance.

My two best friends just recently started drinking over the summer. I have been away and just found out about this recently. I however, dont want to start drinking they are, I think it is pretty pointless and I dont need alcohol to have a good time. I KNOW that I am able to say no if I am put into a pressuring situation by them, but I am afraid our friendship isnt the same anymore. It seems like they want to move on to bigger and better things, but they truly are my best friends in the world. What do I do? 15/f

Hmmm, they are definately too young thats for sure. Anyway, I agree with some of the people below. I would add a slight twist on this. Look at it as a test to see if your friendship really is what you thought it was.

I remember before I started drinking, I had some friends who drank. Also after I started (at a later age than 15), I have had friends who dont drink. Those friendships were not damaged in any way. Some of my friends chose not to drink because they were Muslim, or because they didnt like the taste, or because they didnt like the effect. Either way, the reason made no difference. So I would advise you to just be honest.

Do remember, as others have said, they have not moved on to better things. Drinking can be fun, but it is totally irresponsible to do it at that age. So, just look at them as what they are, a couple of misguided teens. If you can, try to convince them to wait a few years, they would benefit from it. If not, then thats their decision.

Hmmm odd one. I tried looking up your virus without a great deal of success. The only reference to zimlabs and viruses I found was in regards to AOL and the .exe file which apparently can get infected and carry viruses onto your computer. Dont quote me on this mind you, its just one reference.

Anyway, the solution should be the same as with any virus shouldnt it? Run an anitvirus program. Would have been good if you had mentioned what sort of protection you had running. Anyway, here are two free ones:

Even if they dont fully clean the thing, they might find another name for the virus, something that would give better results on the internet. However, I have found avast to be pretty good. Install it, run it, then right click anywhere on the main control panel and select from the menu "schedule boot time scan". You can also run it normally after that, but when you restart it will scan your computer before logging into Windows.

Well be careful here. It is true that we only use a small portion of our brains. It however does not follow that "psychics" use their brains any differently. This is what they sometimes say to add an element of "science" into their little show.

You know, there is a fund out there run by that magician James Randi (actually there are a few but his is the biggest). Anyway they will give 1 million dollars to anyone who can show any sort of paranormal abilities of any kind in a scientifically controlled environment. Its been around for years. No one has even passed the preliminary tests though people have come from all corners of the globe.

Alrite im 17 almost 18 in October && female.

im about 30 pounds Over weight & im dying to have thatt dream body. Im not Actaully fat. I carry it good i guess you can say. But the fat is in all the wrong places. Thighs & butt & stomach.

I bought this oxygen magazine. Its exercises that give you that total body workout & you can see amazing diffrences in 30 days. I know im not going to lose all my extra weight in 30 days but i hope to lose quite a bit.

Im pretty much willing to do what it takes to lose this weight. Im going to start these exercises soon.

I love to run but it doesnt say anything abut running. I want to run but ill have to do it earrly morning say around 6-7am. I have a soccer field behind my house that ill run around. About how many times do i run around it?

this is the meal plan in this magazine.

meal 1:
1banana, 2 eggs and 1/2 cup oatmeal.

meal 2: a shake of 2 scoops protein powder mixed with 1/2 cup low-fat milk.

meal 3: 2 cups lettuce with 2 tsp each olive oil & vinegar & 4oz chicken breast.

meal 4: 1 oz. almonds & 1 peach.

meal 4: 1/2 cup asparagus, 1 cup brown rice & 4 oz turkey.

meal 5: 1/2 cup light yogurt & 1 oz. walnuts.

---Its that like everything youll eat in one day or is that just ideas?

The diet looks pretty good. It seems to make an effort to balance the meals well and to provide sources of essential fatty acids. Problem with diets is they really should be tailor made. How many calories you use is dependant on your current bodyweight and activity level. But its a good start, experiment with it and see how it goes.

Also if you get tired of the same old stuff you can use other types of lean meats, other vegetables and so on.

Running (or cardio in general) is great. Running in the morning I have read is even better for weight loss (before breakfast). I know a lot of bodybuilders use it in their cutting cycle. Personally there isnt enough tea in China to get me up and running at that hour, but its great if you can do it.

Regarding laps, I wouldnt worry about that. I would go for time instead. Start with whatever you can do and build up so that (ideally) you are running over 30 minutes.

As for when to start it, isnt that totally up to you?

do you think this would be an efficiant workout to do to lose a few pounds in about a month? i'd probably do it about 4 times a week.

:100 jumps (like jump roping without the rope lol)
:50 bicycles
(then do that again & again for 10 mins straight)
:then dancing for 10 mins to hip hop or something

do you think that that would help me burn a little bit of extra fat from my thighs and lower back/sides?

Any workout is better than no workout. So, providing that you eat right it may very well help you slim down.

As for getting rid of fat specifically from your thighs or lower back thats a big "no". Fat spot reduction is a myth, the human body cannot select from where the fat is lost. So the value of this exercise is only as a calorie burner/ muscle builder. From this it follows that it would be even better if you added something for your upper body too.

I don't know what group to place it in, but it is mental I can tell you that. My boy friend was the best person you could have ever imagined. Even though he is only 14 [so am I, female] He was great. He has the potential to do anything he sets his mind to, music, school, great with kids & adults, wonderful. One of the ,main thing I was attracted to, was his childness-ish. He was funny, not in a dirty way either, didn't swear, proclaimed to be saved and was ever-so respectful.

After about a few months af dating I allowed french kissing and holding, sorta a low quality makeout.Then it grew and grew, now, we didn't get into sex or anything and stayed on top of clothes, but I noticed a difference in him, about two months ago.He has always told me how he feel about everything, absolutely EVERYTHING, I asked him what was wrong, hios reply was always something but he never got to the point. I started telling him that there was somthing he wasn't telling me, he would always say no, there wasn't.

After a long while of thinking, praying and asking God for guidance, I realised that we should never have started the whole "kissing process" so we could regenerate our relationship, the way it was before. At first he was scared, he'd say "What?I thought everything was fine, why shouldn't we?" and My answer would alaways be "It is wrong and I believe God would rather otherwise" Then there'd be a conflict, and those always hurt the heart.

Now he gave me his msn password and I thought "I don't have anything to hide or lose" so I gave him mine. He forgot that He gave me his password and the other days I checked it.Was I ever shocked, hurt, crushed, heart broken...It just hurt so much, I was crying outloud saying "no....no, he couldn't have done this to me..." Everytime I gave him proof, he said sorry and agreed...and He kept telling me half truths, I got him to tell his parents and they have taken the computer away form him for a month.

Ok you arent going to like my answer, but you are overreacting in my opinion. Actually Im not all that sure what it is that is causing you all the pain. No harm was done. Believe it or not his way of acting was perfectly normal for someone his age. Its natural at that time to be curious in this way. When I was young it was magazines... now its the internet.

Really, I could understand if you were a bit surprised or annoyed but not heartbroken and destroyed. I know you are not too fond of my answer already, but get a hold of yourself. Be open to the possibility that there are other ways to percieve the world than that you were brought up with.

Truly I would understand if there was talk of addiction like the answer below mentions. There is no such evidence here, only evidence of curiousity and of hormones.

Well Im not sure its a question of self esteem as such. In a relationship where men and women are equal, who is "putting out" really?

Anyway I get off point. I do however think that "friends with benefits" is a bad idea. The reason it is a bad idea is that 90% of the time this exact thing happens. One partner becomes emotionally involved with the other. This is more often than not the female (since guys can separate sex and feelings in a way most women cant)... however it is not always the case.

Either way, I do agree with the general idea of the answer below. You need to get out quick since the more you stay the worse its going to hurt. Then you can try to see if there is any way to build something more substantial with the guy. But only after you get the sex out of the way. In my non-expert opinion the best relationships have friendship as a foundation not sex (or at least not just sex).

Well, how one determines right and wrong depends very much on the ethical viewpoint one has. Within animal rights the two main viewpoints are utilitarianism (part of the consequentialist school) and the rights view (part of the non- consequentialist view).

The first looks for equal considerations of interests. To a utilitarian ethics is a system of pluses and minuses where the "ethical" choice is that which gives the best aggregate result. So, to him keeping an animal like you suggest would be ok providing that its needs were adequately taken care of etc.

For the rights view, ethics is looked at in terms of fundamental right and wrong. One way to look at it is Kants universal law theory (or something like that... its been a while). For every action, instead of looking at the consequences for that action you instead make it into a universal law and see how the world would look. From this view, it might be considered wrong, since it might be viewed as taking advantage of a living being for ones own needs. The happiness and well-being of the creature take a back seat role to the notion that you have taken control of its life (dictated its fate etc), which might be deemed as fundamentally wrong.

There... hope that makes some sense. In reality I believe that this wouldnt work anyway. Im not sure why, I just remember reading a similar suggestion a long time ago and for some reason, it wasnt possible (maybe the quality of the fur deteriorates, or maybe it takes too long for them to die to be economically viable).

I just started playing tennis about 2 months ago and i decided to try out for my high school team. But now im not so sure if i should try out or not because all the other girls have been playing there whole lives. Also does anyone play tennis and have any tips for serving?

I agree with the previous answer. Definately try out, you have nothing to lose really and everything to gain (just think if you actually beat out one of these girls who has played all her life...).

As for serving tips, its kind of hard over the internet, but heres what comes to mind off the top of my head:
- How you toss the ball in the air is extremely important. It has to be done just right, i.e. a little in front of you, but not too much, a bit higher than your reach but not by much etc. If you toss the ball wrong, let it drop without swinging and start over.
- Keep your eyes on the ball. Sounds obvious but people do forget
- Everyone has their own styles of course, but learn to get your whole body into the serve. Some players hit mainly using their arms and their serves will always be rather weak.

It is possible that I expressed myself wrongly in whatever answer you saw. Of course you can lose fat in your stomach, what you cannot do is target fat loss to your stomach.

If you eat properly (healthy foods, balanced meals, many small meals, plenty of water etc.) and if you eat less than you burn, then you will lose weight. Your body will then pull fat cells from all over your body, your stomach included. What we cannot do is to influence through exercise which areas of fat get burned first.

For some people it is hard to get rid of fat pockets on areas of their body. They usually ask here on advicenators and get told something like "do 100 crunches every night and that is like really effective to get rid of your stomach fat". Most people really want to think they can shape their bodies in this way, but it just is not possible.

Since what we are looking at is burning calories and perhaps boosting the metabolism, things like cardios, sport and weight training are far more effective than any single exercise.

I know I got a little of track here, but I hope this is of some help to you anyway. If you wanted more specific weight loss advice and I misunderstood your question, just tell me and I will do my best to help.

I have the habit of doing masterbating once in a week sometimes twice n one of my friend told that doing masterbation will reduce the size of fore arms is it true or false?

False. If anything, since it is a form of exercise, it will increase the size of your forearms (though I wouldnt count too much on that).

I have friends who would have no forearms at all if that were true :)

Well...this is kind of an odd question. I weigh a bit more than my boyfriend, and I'm afraid that if I sit on his lap or something that it would hurt him. I heard guys naturally are stronger, but I don't know much about this. Do you think it would hurt him?

I would seriously doubt that it would hurt him. I just cant see how sitting one someones lap, unless one is tiny and the other huge, could possibly do any harm. Also, perhaps more important than strength, guys dont seem to "hurt" or bruise as easily as girls. No offence to any females out there, but thats my experience anyway.

If you hear muffled choking sounds just get off him again :)... otherwise I wouldnt really worry about it.

First of all you cannot burn fat from your stomach. Fat spot reduction is a myth which is most common here on this site for some reason. So... for that part of your question the answer is "almost completely useless".

The only value 700 crunches will have in the slimming process is to burn some calories. Then, assuming that you eat less than you burn, you may lose weight (overall mind you). However, compared to doing an overall body workout, it is a waste of time.

One more thing... In my experience between doing say sets of 100 regular crunches or sets of 15 weighted crunches (with a weight on your chest or behind your head), I have seen better results with the latter. Also takes way less time. I am now talking of the crunch as a muscle building exercise, all of the above regarding fat loss still holds.

As for whether its bad for you, I am not sure. If your form is right it shouldnt be harmful, but if your form is wrong you may strain your neck and/or back.

ya i have been doin all kinda of stomach exercises for a month or so and yes there were results of my stomach its really tight but my stupid pot belly is still there it just wont go away it may just be me but one day my stomach looked almost flat and the like a week later my stomach looked a little bit bigger i really dont know what to do maybe im forming mussel on top of my belly fat but these are the exercises i have been doing crunches everyday in sets, lets lifs in sets i have been doing them everyday for a month and nothing i only formed mussel and i can kinda see the area where the mussel is but my pot belly wont go away for nothing is there is that unormal.. and is there anything else that i can do?

I think I must have written this a thousand times and yet the myth still prevails on this site. You cannot in any way whatsoever target fat loss through exercise. It is humanly impossible, our bodies simply do not work this way. If you do squats you build muscle on your legs, if you do crunches you build muscle on the abdominal area. You do not remove fat from that area.

Fat loss is the product of overall weight loss. You eat right, eat less than you burn etc. Then and only then will your body begin removing fat cells from all over your body. Eventually it will get to your stomach as well. Unless there is some sort of hormonal problem or something like that, we cannot affect the way fat is removed.

Edit: Actually within what I wrote are the guidelines to how you can make your stomach go away... But I guess you would rather look for the quick fix. Want to bet you will be posting the same thing in a years time?

if i run for a half hour to fourty-five minutes everyday for a month how much do u think it is possible to lose? i am 5'6 and 126 lbs. the doctor said its normal, but i just want to tone up my thighs and drop a few pounds. thanks!

First off its generally not considered healthy to lose more than 2 pounds per week. Odds are that if you push the body to lose more you will lose muscle mass and/or water weight as well. Losing muscle is counter productive for fat loss.

One more thing, its not really neccessary to do this every single day. I dont know how fit you are, but even extremely fit people take a rest day every week. If you are relatively new to this ease your way into it.

As always though, watch what you eat. Make sure that you give your body the right fuel it needs to this sort of workload, eat small balanced meals etc etc.
