the soccer coach at my school wants me to try out for goalie. im going to do it. but ive never played soccer before. so, can anyone explain to me exactly what a goalie does besides block the ball? also, when i go to tryout, what all should i bring? if it helps, im 15/f
Ive played goalie for a few (minor) clubs in my youth. Here are a few things off the top of my head about what a good keeper does:
- Parry the ball (with any and all limbs... lol even the ones that hurt)
- Catch the ball (even better, see below)
- Tackle the ball
- Throw the ball
- Goalkicks (a defender can take it for you, but a keeper must eventually develop a long powerful goalkick)
- Help direct the defense- In time, when you have experience, this will be required of you. The keeper is in the best position to see what is going on and who is in the wrong place.
Goalkeeper attributes:
- The ablitity to catch the ball, rather than just block it is invaluable. Parrying the thing back out into the box is dangerous and can create new chances. Of course, trying to catch it, failing, and dropping the ball creates even worse chances. Nonetheless, in football (soccer)manager games they call this ability "handling".
- Reflexes... need I say more?
- Agility... also self explanatory. The further you can dive, the higher you can jump, the better. If you play regular 11 a side football (there are other variants), you will find that goal to be enormous. Also, the ability to drop and stand as quickly as possible is very useful. Goalkeeper training is actually one of the most intense there is.
- Anticipation. Sometimes less agile keepers are always in the way of the ball.
- Fearlessness/ bravery. The more able you are to enter into a tackle with an oncoming forward, the better you are.
Of course, no one excels at all of these (save perhaps the great pros). The more you have the better.
As for stuff, the person below listed a bunch of things. All you really need are a pair of goalkeeping gloves (provided often by the club/school/etc) and football shoes. They also make goalkeeping pants which are padded on the sides (where you land in the dives), but they are hardly "neccessary". I would just wear something like a tracksuit (avoid shorts when in goal) without any zippers or anything.
Edit: Oh... and I almost forgot the most important thing. Shin guards. Trust me, they are really neccessary (the school might provide them though, so maybe you should ask).
Right im 22, i have this boyfriend (X) and he is really nice and i do like him but he is three years younger than me, and an old friend of mine (Y), who is older than me, told me a couple of weeks ago that he really likes me and he has just been afraid to ask me out.
So Y asked me to go out on a date with him, i said yes but im still with X.
Now the huge problem is that X told me hes in love with me today and i cannot dump him because im going to hurt him so badly!
So i was going to go on the date with Y and see how it goes (Y knows about X btw) and if i really like Y, tell X im sorry but its not working.
What im asking really is, is this a good idea or should i just finish with X now and save any hurt?
I really need a quick answer as the date is tomorrow night!!
First off you should be warned that I am in no way an expert on such things. However, I will give it my best shot.
There is no doubt that you will really hurt your boyfriend, and you are right that the timing is really bad (now that he told you he loved you and all that). However, since you dont feel the same way back, Im not sure its such a great idea to keep the relationship even if the date with Y goes badly. In the end, you would just be keeping him as some sort of reserve, until someone you really loved came along.
Then there is also the matter of trust. If you go out with Y while still having a boyfriend you are cheating on him. That in itself is wrong to me, whether or not it spares his feelings.
Some people have a somewhat looser, more utilitarian outlook on things like this. I tend more towards categoric rights and wrongs. So, you have to understand, I can only advise you to be honest. It may not be pretty, but its the right thing to do, in my opinion anyway.
In the end, ending it now with your boyfriend might be the best thing for him. It will certainly be the fairest thing.
Anyway, hope this is of some use to you. Good luck.
any tips on how to lose around 10lbs in a week? i want to fit into an old dress ... 17/f ... even five lbs would help ... please im desperate!
Not only is it impossible (as the others have mentioned), but if you even come close it wont be fat you are losing. Any crash diet, particularly one of the magnitude you are suggesting, will really only eat away at your muscle or dehydrate you. Seriously dont try it, it wont do you any good.
Anyway, here are some quick weight loss tips... 1. Eat 4-6 small meals every day 2. Eat balanced meals 3. Avoid saturated fats and things that have sugar added (that takes care of most of the "crap" one eats) 4. Make sure you get enough protein (base your meals around a good protein source like skinlees chicken/turkey, cottage cheese, tuna etc) 5. Drink plenty of water 6. Exercise regularly, and for best results do cardio in the morning before breakfast.
There that was the ultra concise version. Good luck.
okay, so im on my schools soccer team and even though our season is almost half way done, i still want help.
so basically, at the beginning of every practice we have to run a mile and im always one of the last people in and im dead tired. i want to be a better runner, and overall, FASTER because i need to be able to sprint really fast too. what all should i do that would help me be a better runner??
15/f if it helps...?
Practicing running, as everyone has said, of course helps. For sprinting however, you might want to look into incorporating some weight training into your schedule.
Although I do weights and play football -soccer as you yanks call it- very frequently, I cant say Im an expert at designing a weights program specifically for the sport. So, talk to a coach and get his input. For faster sprinting in general, explosive weight training should be very useful- particularly for the acceleration phase of the sprint.
One thing about football is that your 100m sprint time is not all that relevant. Much more so is your ability to reach top speed as soon as possible, and maintiain it for short distances of 2 to 30 metres (and rarely more). Also, the ability to slow down and explode repeatedly is far far more valuable than the ability to dash over a certain distance. This is why I think weights have helped me enormously in this sport. They give you the ability to exert a maximum effort almost instantaneously, which is what is often required in football (particularly for a forward).
So, divide your schedule into three broad parts. 1. Endurance training- You can either choose distance or time here (i.e. run for 20 minutes as far as you can go) 2. Sprint training- I would recommmend practicing all sort of sprints here, of distances ranging from 10m explosions to 100m sprints (the columnist below suggested a form of training that is also used frequently), 3. Weight training (particularly focused on explosive compound movements- once you have taken a month or two to condition your muscles with light training).
many ppl say that crunches r better than sit ups but i want to know how to do a crunch and what is its difference from a sit up
Well here are some videos on how to do them:
ยจ
http://www.exrx.net/WeightExercises/RectusAbdominis/WtCrunch.html
http://www.exrx.net/WeightExercises/RectusAbdominis/WtInclineSitUpX.html
You will notice that they use weighted crunches (with a weight behind the head)... that of course is only neccessary if they are too easy.
The general notion is that crunches target the abdominals more, while sit ups use the hip flexors to some degree. Also, sit ups put pressure on the lower back which can also make them less comfortable/safe to do.
Oh, one final note on the videos. Its important not to pull your head up when doing the crunch. In the video it looks a little like he is doing that, but in reality he is just holding the weight against his neck, not pushing against it.
for some reason i only want to be friends with good llokin guys or good lookin girls...issues such as bad teeth or weight problems or just..bad genes make me not want to be friends with those people...is that wrong?
That really depends on how you define wrong. If the question were phrased something like "does that make me vain?" or "does that make me shallow?", then the answer would be yes.
"Wrong" implies some sort of ethical or moral issue. Strictly speaking, its not wrong. You can pick and choose your friends, by whatever criteria you decide.
However, you might consider that by relying on something as irrelevant as looks, you are not living your life to its fullest. Friendship is about a lot of things (loyalty, trust, fun etc), and looks are not really that important. If you pick your friends using the wrong criteria, you may come to pay for that later in life. Also, have you considered how many great frienships you are foregoing because of your obsession with looks?
Like I said earlier, you are of course free to choose whatever you want. If I were you though, I would really try to figure out why this is such an issue for you. It isnt logical, and it will make your life more difficult.
If you are trying to conceive, do you still wear condoms? Thanks.
No, since that would prevent pregnancy. No condoms, no birth control, no contraceptives of any kind.
I have been going out with this guy for almost eight years now. Although it is a long distance relationship it works for me u know. But i have a problem. I just cannot stop fooling aroun with other guys. i just want to stop but i can't. I love this guy and i do not wnat to lose what i have with him. We actually talk about getting marred someday. So nownthe peoblem is should i tell him about the other three guys that i have been with. It does not get serious. We just kiss and cuddle and that is as far as we go. But it is tearing me apart. I want our relationship to be as loyal as it should be. So should i tell him or not. And want an honest opinion even if it is not what i expect. I want to stop and i feel like i can only do so when i get help. The guys that i actually make with i do not even like them. It just that sometimes i want to be touched and looked in the eyes and appreciated. Please help me
Well, lets start with the two central questions 1. is it cheating? and 2. should you tell him?
The answer to both is "yes". You are being dishonest with a guy that you hope to build a lasting relationship with. I dont see a lot of future in it if you have dishonesty at this early stage.
Now, if you cant stop, make sure you do get some help. What you are doing isnt healthy, and this need for attention has to be rooted in something else. I dont want to start playing shrink, so I will leave it at that, but make sure you talk to someone.
I hope you sort this all out. If you get to the bottom of your problem, hopefully your boyfriend will understand. They say the first step is admitting one has a problem. You have done that, and thats very good. The next step is starting to deal with it.
Good luck.
There's this guy that I know and he keeps commenting on the way I dress. LIke for example, when I had my nails painted black, the moment he saw it he said "Hey your nails look rotten".
And there was once his dog stepped on my toes and I was like "OUCH". And then he just said "Good boy" to his dog without even smiling ! It was like as if he has something against me.
And he'd always say "hey how's life? Any lesbian friends? Got hooked up with any girl ?" And I'd say "NO!" .
I mean he's really making me mad with all those comments. I didnt do anything to offend him. Really. And I've heard of things like whenver a guy does that to you it means he likes you. BUt well I really don't think that's the case here! Cos there was once when we were crossing a really dangerous road and he didnt even bother to help me or hold my hand to cross the road. So this really shows that he doesn't give a shit bout me. And so, that proves he doesn't like me as a crush or something. So can someone tell me what's the matter with that guy?
Ok Im not sure anyone here can say why this guy is acting this way towards you. I agree with your conclusion that he does not fancy you (if he does, then avoid him anyway since that would make him totally nuts).
So, going from the assumption that he dislikes you for whatever reason, the question is, why on earth do you bother to hang out or communicate with him?
If you dont offend anyone and they begin to harass you, you really only have three options in my opinion. 1. Stay away from them- this doesnt mean that you dont answer their questione etc, just minimise all contact 2. Get back in their face- Not neccessarily the best choice. Depends how comfortable you are with conflict. 3. Try to talk it out with them. Just sit him down and calmly ask him why he treats you like dirt, and why he feels offended by you. Depending on his age you may get some immature response though. Either way, you have nothing to lose in my opinion.
Whatever you choose, dont sit there trying to figure out why he acts like an ass. Its not worth your time. Either get him to tell you, or move on and hang out with other friends who dont treat you like dirt.
Good luck.
My dad says that I'm too skinny and need to put on about 10 pounds. I'm 5"1.5, and I'm 86 pounds.
I'm almost literally skin and bone. If I put on weight, where would the weight go? Is there any way to control where it goes, so it doesn't all go to my belly or my thighs?
The only way to control where the weight goes (that I am aware of anyway) is to use weights at the gym. That is really the healthiest option too. Start working out, and create a decent calorie surplus in your diet (no need to eat crap mind you, just good healthy foods in abundance).
Good luck

I weigh around 169, i mean you cant tell i weigh that much, but anyway, i want to lose some weight, at LEAST 10 lbs. i was wondering how much would i lose in, lets say a week, if i did this 'diet'. where i had a fruit smoothie for breakfast, once a week i would have a protein shake, and a salad for lunch. and then at dinner i ate mostly healthy. i would also use my ablounge daily, and i play softball, so about and 1 1/2 hour practice of that a day. also i would run extra like once or twice a week. how much weight do you think i would lose in a week? and how much do you think i would lose if i keep this up?
First of all, I dont like the sound of the diet. Im not trying to hinder your plans or anything, I think its great when people want to get in shape. My problem with the diet (what I understand of it anyway), is that 1. it is not the most effective way to lose fat (note i said "fat" not "weight", as we dont want you to lose muscle mass), and 2. It does not provide you with a good nutrition plan to live your life once you have lost the 10lbs. Number 2 is one of the reasons people put weight back on after dieting... they simply dont know how to eat properly.
As for how much you can lose, the answer there is you should not try to lose more than 2lbs/week. If you do, its going to be largely muscle. However, since you are not obese or anything, I would recommend you aim for a steady 1lb a week or so.
Going back to diet, here are my issues with what you have written. First, 3 meals a day is not enough, your metablolism will respond much better to 5 or 6 small balanced meals (i.e. every 3-4 hours). Second, a fruit smoothie on its own is not a great way to start the day. Fruit is ok, but you need more substance in your breakfast (something like oats in milk, egg whites, some whole wheat bread, maybe some cottage cheese).
If you feed your body well, you will perform better in your sports and you will know that the weight you lost came from your fat stores. Base your meals around solid protein sources like skinless chicken or turkey, tuna, and other lean meats. Combine them with a moderate portion of a carb source (e.g. 50g of pasta or 75g basmati rice). I will stop with this now, but feel free to drop a question in my inbox if you want me to say anything else.
Finally, the exercise. All I can say is that there is no need to overdo it. If you decide to run, you might want to skip practice that day or something. Remember also to get a rest day every week. Otherwise I think you have this area covered.
Good luck.
So, today is my 19th birthday, and since I live in Canada that means I can drink! The funny thing is that I really don't know where to start buying since I'm not much of a drinker. Can anyone tell me what the makings of a good basic liquor cabinet are?
I've already got vodka and Kahlua... but I don't know where to go from there!
Well Im 31 and I have never had a liquor cabinet lol. However, from the ones I have seen, you might consider things like scotch, cognac, martini, gin, rum, tequila and so on. I think that together with what you have that should cover all the basics.
However, like the person below said, see what your acquinatances like. If you know your friends absolutely adore some weirder stuff, like say Romanian palinca or Danish snaps or whatever, then you might want to stock up on that :)
I havent drank plain milk for as long as i can remember. Like a full glass. I can use it for cereal but thats about it. i can Drink strawberry milk without a problem. i eat dairy products such as cheese but drinking plain white milk makes me sick and gag pretty much.
--when i do drink strawbeery milk its the kind that is pre-made.
would this be a sign of lactose and tolerant.
idk this is kind of everywhere sorry.
thanks
Being lactose intolerant means that you should have a problem digesting milk whether or not it is "on its own". So, if you can take it in cereals, and if you dont have a problem with other dairy products, then the answer is "no".
Here is a link to the wikipedia article on it:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lactose_intolerance
From the article, I see there is one way to make sure... consume over 250ml (in your cereal if you cant drink it plain) and see if you get problems. Remember, the problems should be indigestion, gas etc, not a dislike to actually drinking it.
If she had all the same beliefs as you, would you vote for her? Tell me Why?
I Need this for a project, thanks.
Of course I would, providing that the candidate seemed able to carry out her promises. I really dont see how the person's sex figures into this actually. As I see it there are really only two issues at hand: 1. the policies proposed by the candidate, 2. the candidate's ability/ willingness to carry out the proposed policies. Anything else is irrelevant.
I found out that quite a few classmates of mine have tried marijuana or weed. This really shocked me because I didn't think highschoolers did that sort of thing, or that drugs were even available. They told me that the drugs really aren't that bad, that they're actually safer than cigarettes, and that they aren't addictive. Are they right? How many highschoolers do drugs usually? Am I naive to have believed that?
There is no doubt that cigarettes are more addictive. They are also very likely more dangerous to your health (you have to take into account here that smokers often intake a pack a day or more).
Now, thats not to say there arent bad effects from weed. There most certainly are. It is in no way "safe" and I have seen people... actually no, I have close friends who have totaly f***ed up their lives because of it. As with all mild drugs you also get those who can control it. However, the best thing is to stay away from both.
As for how many do them, I dont know. However it has to also depend on the school. Thing is though, thats usually the age kids want to experiment with stuff so unfortunatly its going to be pretty common.
Hi my name is Oscar and i need to ask you a question.... At what age do teens/preteens start to develop chest and muscle (males). And what do I have to do to get more muscle and get a bigger chest?
Thanks.
Well, I cant say specifically when you start developing more muscle, but if you want to get bigger nothing beats weights.
For the results you want, you need to join a gym. Then you need to get a beginner program made out for you (dont try to do this yourself, you will screw up I can almost guarantee it). Make sure you get something that focuses on big compound exercises like the squat, deadlift and bench press. Dont obesses on your chest specifically, train it alongside the other muscles and you will make better gains.
Finally, you need to look upon the muscle building process as though it were a three legged stool. One leg is training, one leg is diet, and the other is rest. Neglect one leg and the whole thing colapses. So, eat frequently, eat balanced but with a good amount of protein, and get at least 8 hours of sleep a night.
If you can stick to a good gym program, training maybe about 45 minutes 3 or 4 days a week, I guarantee that you will feel like a different man a year from now.

I just had sex with my boyfriend of 5 years and we both loved it.. the thing is.. I don't know if he has HIV or not.. because I asked him.. and he just said, "It doesn't matter honey, let's just do it.." and he kissed me so passionately that i couldn't refuse sex with him.. and he said it kinda in a way that sounded like he did.. but I'm not sure if he has HIV..
should I be worried- because I love him so much!!
Thanks a lot!
♥Jake
I fail to understand how people perceive from this that he loves you. If the guy "loves" you, he wouldnt expose you to this disease... he wouldnt let you jeopardise your entire future for one night of sex. That to me sounds more like he needs to get off, thats all.
Now, rate me what you like, but you are toying with your life here. Of course you could refuse sex, no matter how passionately he kissed you. Dont be ridiculous and put things in perspective. The guy avoided your question... actually worse he told you it didnt matter. Think about it, it doesnt matter that he could be carrying a deadly contagious disease? How could you buy that garbage?
Whether he has it or not isnt even the issue. You asked him a legitimate question and he gave you a bogus answer so he could sleep with you. Note that next time you consider how much he "loves" you.
Of course you should get tested, and of course you should be worried. Its not certain he has it, but its pretty certain that AT BEST, he doesnt know. So get a straight answer out of your boyfriend before you have anything more to do with him. Heck, all things considered, I would recommend seeing it in writing rather than taking his word for it.
I dont presume to know the first thing specifically about gay relationships, but I do know that any sort of intimate relationship is based on trust. He broke your trust, remember that.
Good luck

Hi- I had sex with my boyfriend about 3 months ago without realizing he had HIV.. I asked him..and he lied and told me he didn't have it..
So- When I went for my yearly doctor check-up(last week).. my doctor wanted to give me an HIV test because I'm homosexual..
and it came out positive.. and I know its from my boyfriend because he's the only one i've had sex with.. ever..
So should I be mad at my boyfriend? or should I be mad at myself because I didn't know he had HIV...
Also- my doctor told me that my HIV is going to result in AIDS in about 5 years..
Please help!
-Jason
You have every right to be mad with your boyfriend. If he didnt know he had it, he should have said "I dont know". If he knew he had it, in my mind its no different than attemptive murder.
What you should blame yourself for is not protecting yourself. You took a nasty risk, but you were deceived and that is truly sad.
In the end though you need to confront your boyfriend. In case he doesnt know you dont want him doing this again to someone else.
I feel really sorry for you, but try not to lose all hope however, many people manage to live a long time with HIV.
Best of luck
Hey guys, I'm trying to lose weight, but the right way. I need help with what to eat (breakfast, lunch, & dinner) because usually I just grab what I can find, which is probably why I've gained weight. I'm going to go food shopping w/my mom soon so if you could, a list of things to buy would be helpful. If you can, can you tell me what you've done in the past that has helped you to lose weight like what you ate and how you exercised daily? Thankyouu, all answers are rewarded :)
Ok starting at the beginning, you need to eat more meals that just breakfast, lunch and dinner. Ideally 5 or 6 meals, spaced out evenly every 3 to 4 hours. This will help keep your metabolism going, which is an essential part of losing weight.
Onto what to eat. Avoid empty calories from junk food, things that have sugar added to them and so on. Also avoid saturated fats, from fatty meats, cheap oils, butter, mayo, many cheeses etc.
In general try to keep dairy products low in fat, and instead get your essential fatty acids from things like fish, nuts, canola, seeds, olive oil, flax oil etc. Each meal should have a small amount of fat from such sources, and not so much fat from elsewhere.
Good things to eat include lean meat (particularly skinless chicken and turkey breast), tuna, vegetables, fruits (in small quantities), cottage cheese, egg whites, oats (great way to start the day), basmati rice, whole grain pasta etc.
Just remember not to overdo it with the carbs. So, for example, a meal might consist of 100-150grams of turkey breast, 50 grams of whole grain pasta, and a salad made with a good oil. Alternatively you could do something like 250grams of low fat cottage cheese, a small handful of walnuts and an apple. Breakfast could be something like a bowl of oats in skim milk, and a couple of boiled egg whites for extra protein.
With this meal system, try to avoid "snacking" of any kind. Just eat a balanced meal every 3 hours or so. Also make sure that each meal contains at least 20 grams of protein (more if you are weight training).
How much you should eat depends upon your current weight and activity level. If you dont feel comfortable experimenting, here is a calorie calculator that will give you an approximation (generally aim to eat 500cals per day less than you burn):
http://www.my-calorie-counter.com/Calorie_Calculator.asp
Of course exercise is great. Probably the best thing you can do is a combination of weight training and cardio. Anything is good however, so if you like a sport for example and think you can stick to that better, then do that.
Good luck.
Oh yeah, and drink loads of water.
Okay hi =] haha uhm i take a lot of pictures of my dog and random plants, landscapes, etc. random people and stuff. i really want to get into photography so other people can look at my pictures. theres nothing like that at my school. ( im in 8th grade) so how can i get people to view my pictures?

please let me know. thanks =]
Well, if you just want a place to post and have people comment then try look at deviant art:
http://www.deviantart.com/
Its enormous and while it isnt just for photography (its for all art), it is mainly populated by photographers.
