I found out that quite a few classmates of mine have tried marijuana or weed. This really shocked me because I didn't think highschoolers did that sort of thing, or that drugs were even available. They told me that the drugs really aren't that bad, that they're actually safer than cigarettes, and that they aren't addictive. Are they right? How many highschoolers do drugs usually? Am I naive to have believed that?
Cj answered Sunday September 10 2006, 7:09 pm: Well, weed is safer than cigareetes in medical terms, but weed is ILLEGAL! don't mess with it. It is not addictive as such, but you can get hooked on it. Yes, highschoolers always have access to drugs.
Believe it or not, about 25% of the student body may be doing drugs, and it can include some of the people you least expect, including those topping the class. Yes, that is true, sadly.
No you are not Naive to believe that, I always thought I would run as far away as I can if any one brought drugs close to me, but it was not so, I do not even mind holding it.
But I don't smoke it. I do not do drugs, few simple reasons. It may get you sick, but that is rare. It Is ILLEGAL, stay away from it. it can screw up your life by association, think about it, people who smoke it break the law, who knows what other laws they might break. It will lower my grades, not by killing brain cells, but becuase I rather smoke than study. Plus, smoking is not cool again, it does not look cool. How many cool people smoke still? Plus, it might tear apart your family if they knew they were involved with drugs. [ Cj's advice column | Ask Cj A Question ]

pinkpong answered Sunday September 10 2006, 3:49 pm: actually, i would think that smoking weed is probably most common among people in highg school than any other age. it is extremely common.im very surprised that you were so in the dark on this one. no offense, but you know what i mean. well, condsider everything they told you about them false, becuase none of it seems to be true. they are extremely bad, and can cause people to act ompletely different and make hugely wrong decisions. ive had them ruin friendships, on more occasions than one. they are not in any way safer than cigarrettes. they cause jsut as much bodily damage to you than cigarettes, and if you get caught with it on the streets, youll be in much moretrouble than you would if you had cigarettes on you. MUCH more trouble. so, take this as a warning. people will tell you watevr they want to about drugs, becuase theyre in denial, and think that what theyre doing is perfectly normal, when its not. adviice_whore answered Sunday September 10 2006, 2:40 pm: i've heard that weed and ciggarates are BOTH addictive. but lets face it, no drug is good for you. if it wasnt so bad for you dont you think it would be legal? one blut of weed is about a whole pack of cigs! think about that. you should stay out of smoking weed because it makes people stupid and i know people that have died from it. my best friend tried weed and the next minute she was dead so some people have BAD reactions to it. it can still cause lung cancer and you could die. it screws up your mind and changes your personality and alot of people i know that do weed are really lazy now and would you really want to be labeled as a pothead?? i would say atleast half of high schoolers at my school have atleast tried weed or are still doing it. of course i havent and i dont plan on it. if you tried it once its not really going to hurt you but if you keep doing it then it gets worse. everyone says weed isnt as bad as cigs but thats pretty f*cked up because weed might not have the same effects as ciggarettes but it has many problems of its own. when people first smoke weed they think nothings going to happen and they will just try it to see what its like thinking nothing bad can happen to them and then the next second their life is screwed up forever and in the longrun they turn out to be lazy crackheaded bums who dont have a job. i say just stay out of drugs because they affect your mind and your life is ruined so its just not worth it. if you want to feel high/pleasure do something fun thats not harmful instead of smoking. ♥ [ adviice_whore's advice column | Ask adviice_whore A Question ]
shayequalslove answered Sunday September 10 2006, 2:28 pm: you're really naive if you think high school kids don't do drug. it's a huge problem. drugs are bad. cigarrettes will kill you faster than marijuana because marijuana is all natural. i guess in a sense it is healthier than cigarretts as long as you stay in your house. marijuana slows your reaction time majorly. it is very addictive though. i'd say 1 in 3 high schoolers have at least tried drugs. i hope i helped if only a little. xokristabelle answered Sunday September 10 2006, 1:19 pm: At my school, about 80% of students smoke pot.
Maybe 25% do serious drugs.
75% drink.
And 50% are virgins.
(They had an anonymous survey at my school but some people didn't answer honestly so keep that in mind.)
So it's more common than you think. I live in a medium sized, fairly wealthy community.
Pot is less addicting and has less risks than cigarettes, but really what isn't? The problem is that after they do it, people are lazy as hell, act stupid, and just want to sit around smoking all day.
Alin75 answered Sunday September 10 2006, 12:09 pm: There is no doubt that cigarettes are more addictive. They are also very likely more dangerous to your health (you have to take into account here that smokers often intake a pack a day or more).
Now, thats not to say there arent bad effects from weed. There most certainly are. It is in no way "safe" and I have seen people... actually no, I have close friends who have totaly f***ed up their lives because of it. As with all mild drugs you also get those who can control it. However, the best thing is to stay away from both.
As for how many do them, I dont know. However it has to also depend on the school. Thing is though, thats usually the age kids want to experiment with stuff so unfortunatly its going to be pretty common. [ Alin75's advice column | Ask Alin75 A Question ]
angie91 answered Sunday September 10 2006, 12:02 pm: Wow thats interesting. You didnt know that highschoolers do drugs? what have your health teachers been teaching you? its okay that you dont know all of the facts about them. But these are the important ones. what you just experienced was peer presure dont believe a word they said. Drugs are really bad and more addictive than cigarettes. they screw with your brain and cause serious damage to your whole future. I think that you should try your hardest not to experiment with drugs because i've seen it before and it ruins your life. and just so you know it is very easy to get drugs so you will get asked again. just say something like no thanks i dont want brain damage or if i do my parents will kill me. and they probably will or if we get caught we'll go to jail. dont try and make them stop. just keep yourself out of danger. and dont compare drugs to cigarettes they are both horrible and addictive but the effects are so different. good luck hope this helps [ angie91's advice column | Ask angie91 A Question ]

duudee_advicer answered Sunday September 10 2006, 11:51 am: I`m in eighth grade and about 1/3 of the students in my grade are using drugs, have tried them, smoke/ tried smoking, or drink.
It's pretty common these days but I`m not saying its a good thing to do. I've lost ALOT of friends, including the girl that was my very best friend for so so so long. I myself have never tried anything however.
You're somewhat naive to believe that no one does them, however I used to think the same.
Theres no such thing at "good drugs" when it comes to illegal drugs. And yes, they are addictive. You're "friends" sound like they're trying to get you into them, but stay clear.
Most highschoolers have tried and or use them. I'm not saying all do, but most have, unfortunatley.
fabulous11 answered Sunday September 10 2006, 11:04 am: All drugs and stuff like that are pretty much equally bad for you. Im in high school and i would have to say atleast half maybe more somkes, and if they dont do it regualrly they tried it.
S_C answered Sunday September 10 2006, 11:04 am: You were somewhat naiive to think that high schoolers don't do drugs. High school is usually where it all starts. (Though I know someone who has been doing them since I think the 7th grade)No matter what anyone tells you, drugs ARE bad. In some ways they are safer than ciggarettes, but in other ways they are much worse. Drugs mess with your mind, cigarettes mess with you physically. That (in my mind) is the biggest difference. You asked how many high schoolers do drugs, there isn't really a good answer to that. It depends on the area, the availability, the personality of the students. At my school I would have to say drinking is much more popular than smoking. There are all the cliques, preps, jocks, loners, stoners, goths, skaters, nerds, geeks, the brainy kids, punks, etc. There are also the individuals (it's ironic how there's a group of individuals). Stoners aren't the only ones who do drugs, I know jocks that do drugs, I know smart people who do drugs, heck there are nerds who do them to try and fit it.
Doing drugs is one of the worst ways to fit in. Now I'm not saying EVERY jock or EVERY prep does drugs, but usually you'll find at least one or two people in each clique that have at least tried smoking pot. I'm not a fan of drugs myself, but I will admit that I've tried it.
It's a bad thing to get yourself into. Technically pot isn't addictive, but there are multiple problems that arise from doing pot. You'll get bored of just smoking weed and only getting that type of high. Then you'll want to move on to bigger and better things such as cocaine and ecstacy, you'll start to pop pills maybe inject the drugs into yourself. All those things are what is addictive. So smoking pot alone isn't addictive, but as friends of mine who smoke have told me, they get bored with just pot and move on to thing that give them a bigger high, that's when the drugs that they use become addictive.
If you want to get that feeling of high, do something exciting with your life. Go rock climbing or bungee jumpting. Go pairasailing or sky diving. Do something fun - don't waste your life with weed. Honestly, the only thing that makes smoking pot so great is the feeling of freedom it gives you, where nothing matters but getting that next fix. You don't want that. I know you didn't mention whether or not you ever wanted to try drugs, but that is one thing you shouldn't consider. It's messed up some of my friends lives. I've had friend who have overdosed and died from doing drugs - drugs are bad news.
In my opinion, it's okay to have friends who do drugs, but don't be around them while they smoke - because if you're with them and they get busted, you get busted too. Also, if they try to get you to smoke with them and you say no, they may ask once more, just hold your ground and they'll back down. If they don't back down and try to force any drug on you they are NOT your friends.
I'm sorry this is SO long, but I've seen a lot of people misuse drugs and get hurt, I wouldn't want that to happen to anyone else. [ S_C's advice column | Ask S_C A Question ]

I have been in the same situation as you and i talked to my parents about it. They told me that drugs or just as addictive as cigarettes. Lots of high school people do drugs and there just stupid.
Your parents might have different opinions.
holahayley56 answered Sunday September 10 2006, 10:33 am: Yeah, highschool kids do it. I'm only in the 8th grade, & I know a few kids that like smoke ciagarettes, & a few kids that sell it. Actually, not many highschoolers do drugso or anything like that at all, its just some kids believe 'everyones doing it' & thats why they do it. I'm not entirely sureee if marijuana is safer then cigarettes. I forget. haha i took a class on this & did a report, & I can't remember, its all bad though. Just stay away from them.. its not anywhere near good. There stupid, & don't know what they are talking about. [ holahayley56's advice column | Ask holahayley56 A Question ]
