hannahd answered Sunday September 10 2006, 5:30 pm: Wow, your mom sounds like a real winner. I can't believe anyone in their right mind would give their kid the option of not continuing your education. & I can't believe you would actually consider it & not want to better yourself? You know, if you don't want to continue your education or have the chance of getting a decent job in your life, then GIVE UP. But in my opinion, anyone in this country who doesn't make it to high school has no purpose here. What do you tell your friends? How about "Hi, I'm an idiot & I think I'm gonna get somewhere in life with an 8th grade education." What do you do until you're old enough to go apply at KFC next year? Sit & do absolutely nothing. That's just sick you'd actually want to live your life like that. [ hannahd's advice column | Ask hannahd A Question ]
XkittyOkatX answered Sunday September 10 2006, 3:34 pm: First off, I am going to say what every single other reply has said. That high school is very important, and that it will be harder to do things out in the real world without a GED, but it is possible. Though I'm not really for not going to highschool, you would still be able to get a job,and maybe an appartment.
Of course, the job will probably be minimum wage, and you will have to work very hard for a small appartment ((or to live with your parents and save)) but it is still possible. I know some adults with jobs in things like factories, and though they're not proud jobs, they make okay amounts of money, and they've got houses, cars, ect.
I would really reccomend at least trying high school, you are really going to miss school once you have to start working, and living on your own.
To tell your friends.. tell them the truth, or if you cant.. tell them you need to stay home and work. If you're too young to work in your area, try babysitting, cleaning your house, or other houses.. maybe work on improving a skill for when you can work ((you'll need all the skills you can get!!))
kristen22 answered Sunday September 10 2006, 2:59 pm: LOL Well I see you've already got 7 replies to your questions. I didn't bother reading them because I already know what they all said. "You will regret this for the rest of your life if you don't go back to school!!!" So here's what you tell them... I don't want to go to highschool and I don't want a GED either for that matter. I can work at McDonalds for the rest of my life and I'll be OK! And, maybe my mom can take me to work when I'm 40 because I know I won't be able to afford a car only making 5.15 a hour but who cares! I can walk, I aint got no problem with that!
You see how that sounds? I wasn't tryin' to be mean but just trying to let you know that by quitting highschool...telling your friends the news is the LEAST of your problems right now!! If High School aint for you... ya know whatever but at least get your GED. I quit High School too for the same reason but I got my GED. It only took me 2 months. SO why not take just a month or two and AT LEAST do that little bit for yourself?

xSharpiexLovex answered Sunday September 10 2006, 2:02 pm: you WILL regret not going to college
you are ruining any future you may have
how bout you try it out for a little while at least
but honestly..think about it...
you dont THINK highschool is for you
but you dont KNOW if it is
your friends will think youre stupid for doing this and probably tell you not to
xokristabelle answered Sunday September 10 2006, 1:24 pm: You can't get any job without a GED or high school diploma, it's hard enough without a college diploma. Please at least try one year...high school is not as bad as it sounds. Chances are you will be able to find people who will the same way as you do. Spend a year there, do your homework, join a sport/club, go to dances, and see if you like it. If you don't, consider online correspondence courses or indepedent study.
Do you really want to not see your friends again? Chances are you won't...they'll be busy with schoolwork and doing activities with other high schoolers.
By quitting school you basically resign yourself to being broke and homeless. Oh, and it's kind of illegal. [ xokristabelle's advice column | Ask xokristabelle A Question ]
MelLeDisko answered Sunday September 10 2006, 12:24 pm: I'm sorry, but dropping out of high school is probably the stupidest thing you could ever do. I know schools a drag, but if people can't even get a good job without a college education, how are you ever going to get one if you don't even have a HIGHSCHOOL education? Plus, it's a good opportunity to make more friends and social more, I mean, what would happen if the current friends you do have, find more in school, and you guys lose contact with eachother like what does happen between some friends? Then you'd have nobody else to really talk to, unless you decided to randomly make friends with someone at a store or something. Also, there's pretty much nothing to do until you're old enough to get a job except sit at home and wait till your friends come home from school to hang out with them. It'll basically be like summer vacation for 3 years, and I doubt you and your parents will go on a vacation every single month or something, so there's really nowhere to go.
But if you're serious about not going to high school, at least get homeschooled or go to cyber school, you really do need some sort of an education if you want to get SOMEWHERE in life, just not from the kitchen to the basement living in your parents house.
So, I say, stay in school. It's the smartest thing you could ever do.
christina answered Sunday September 10 2006, 12:19 pm: Dropping out is the stupidest thing anyone can do, ever. If you drop out, you pretty much just let your future go. You'll never find a good job. You'll be working at McDonald's for the rest of your life. And do you really wanna be flipping burgers? You'll have to live at home for the rest of your life, because you won't be able to pay for an apartment off $5.75 an hour. Trust me, staying in school is the best thing for you. There's a lot of people who say school isn't for them, but they stay anyways because they want a good life. And if you wanted a good life, you'd go to school, either that or get your G.E.D. If you don't decide to go to highschool. Get homeschooled, so you have some type of education. Because you won't make it very far off an 8th grade education. Trust me.
fabulous11 answered Sunday September 10 2006, 11:09 am: Well if your friends are real friends they probably wont let you drop out. This is probabaly not the answer you gonna wanna hear but its what im gonna say, stay in school. Dont drop out. If you drop out oh high school then you will get no where in life. At least graduate. Its not as hard or as bad as it seems and if you dont care that much you can atlest try to pass with c's and stuff. And if you are really set on dropping out atleast give it a year. Try it if you really cant stand it that much its up to you but i dont think its a very good idea.
holahayley56 answered Sunday September 10 2006, 10:29 am: Why would you not want to go to highschool?
I mean, okay I'm not in highschool yet, so I can't say it was the best years of my life. But, like everyone tells me it was for them. Are you failing or something? Do you have ADD? or something where its hard for you to learn?
If its not, then thats crazy.
Like, do you want to be working at mcdonalds all your life? or like be a grocery person? or put tape around windows? [haha, the girl that lives next door, that dropped out, does that, ahah]
Seriously, stay in school.
If you get atleast Cs you can then get like a decent job. I'm not exactly sure if your a boy or girl. If your a girl.. well, theres not much you can do, to make good money when your older. If your a guy, then hmm. If your good in construction, then thats always an option.
Why did your mom say that you don't have to go to school anymore? Doesn't she want you to do something with your life?
I don't exactly, know where you live, or what your life is like, but.. I never heard of anyone, not wanting to go to school, or their parents telling them they don't want to.
